Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
A slew of recent builds: [CG:J13, U vs DK] A Life Saved! [G:F13, U vs. DK] Herding 'em up To eat or be eaten... [WZ1:E7, Ulandus] [G:K12, U vs HC] Crossbow Attack! (On a side note, I'm having a really odd problem with my laptop keyboard - random keys, including n, b, a, r, y, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 0, and both enter buttons, just stopped working - no warning, no sporadic problems beforehand! Not a dust problem, doesn't seem to be a virus, keys don't work in BIOS either, and no enter means I can't even get out. On screen keyboard works - that's what I'm using, but it's a pain! Any expertise would be appreciated, it's a Toshiba Satellite.) -
Now that Ageven is an apprentice, he's been temporarily given his own little squad! Anxious to impress, he's decided to take on Ras-el-akhen! Ready! Aim! Fire! Overview of just the crossbow. Actually works! As this is a two pointer, Garmadon will be helping out with a build that actually can go along with this one. Comments are welcome! For purposes of response, I'd say this should be taken as a 20x16, if the respondent wishes to include a base.

Another great counter! Good job with the street, and the bit of tilted wall is a nice flashback to the original! Edit: +1 on the UoP!

A response to Lord Dan's Assassination. Things looked pretty bad for our minor lord, after the juggler turned assassin had driven a sword through his gut. Pain shot through his body as he slumped to the ground. His wife broke out into hysterical screams, and then - finding that screaming took too much energy - began to sob. Her little drama ended with a few gyrations on the smooth floor and a sudden, sliding fall on the other side of the room. Our minor lord gathered his failing energy and made a half plunge, half slide across the room, crumpling into the wall. Wincing, he struggled to a reclining position. The frequenters of the inn - inmates, the minor lord called them under his breath - were screaming and wailing - at least, those that were sufficiently "with it" were. One stumbled toward him, fumbling with the knots in a dirty neckerchief. Another looked on, giving vent to his lamentations with great volubility. "Our great lord, to come to this! *sob* To be stabbed by a dirty, worthless, no-good jester off the streets, the scum of the city..." "Don't just stand there, you, you..." The minor lord fell back gasping. The half-witted "inmate" paused in his lamentations. "Get a doctor! A doctor!" the minor lord spluttered, sinking to the ground again. The inmate dashed off. "What had gone wrong?" wondered the minor lord. A dull sort of stupor began to steal over him. He sank, fainting, to the ground - overcome as much by the smell of the inmate standing over him as by his own weakness. To come to this, indeed! He, lord of Kaliphlin - minor lord, to be sure, but still - lord of Kaliphlin, to die among such... such... No! He would stay alive, at least, until the doctor came! Full of this resolution, he raised himself on one arm and waited. At last - it seemed like an eternity - the doctor burst into the room. "Now, I can die!" thought the minor lord. He dropped back into a swoon. His wife, who had just recovered, sprang up in consternation. "Oh!" she began, but the doctor stopped her short. "Hold your noise until we know whether there is a reason for it!" he exclaimed roughly. Walking over to the dying man, he shoved the inmate standing over him out of the way. He gave the minor lord a quick inspection. "Jugglers turned assassins don't seem to have a good knowledge of human anatomy," the doctor soliloquized. "He'll live," he announced, turning to the group. The uproar of hysterical shouts and laughter that instantly filled the room made him wish he hadn't said anything, just yet. Comments are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!

Another fantastic aquaduct MOC from the DK! The rockwork is superb as is the use of dk flesh for the aquaduct itself!

A nice guerrilla from you, Disco, the combo of tan and white is really nice! Everlast had better beware!

Do I have it right that counters do not get their own thread? I'm assuming that's the case, and that we're supposed to post in the guerrilla topic and link here. If so, here's a link to my counter of Lord Dan's attack on J13.

Counter! (Just a reminder: I need approval for this, so if you comment subsequently please make clear who you are approving.) Edit: This build now has its own thread here! The rest of the previous post is under spoilers.

Challenge IV, Category C explained. RULES THREAD
Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
That exactly answered my question, thanks! As for guerrillas potentially messing up a story, that's something I hadn't thought of before. I would say that shouldn't be too much of a problem because for story purposes who actually controls the square could be ignored. The square belongs to the winning team but they've got other things to think about and aren't worried about running rampage over the countryside, for example, or even setting up their own governing body - basically just a nominal change of masters that doesn't have to affect anything else - even secret supply trains setting out for High Council relief. Now, I admit that it would be kind of annoying for three or four guerrillas to suddenly sweep in and grab my city without me being able to marshal enough support from my team to be able to respond. But it seems to me that that's just the fortune of a war like this. After all, DM should have could have sided with us Ulandians... -

Just to clarify, a MOC can win the warzone and that MOC's team can still lose. Eg. Disco's aqueduct is superb and probably not going to be beat. But the High council could have five good entries against the Desert King's one, so they would obviously win the square big time. Disco, however would get the personal points. Basically, there will be two votes going on with the warzone - one for best MOC, the other for best team. As for a potentially huge, impossible-to-respond-to-in-a-week guerrilla, I think those should be handled on a case by case basis. When Ska compiles the guerrillas for the week, if there's one really huge one, he can say, okay respondents, you have two weeks for this one! And frankly, I don't think you'll have too much trouble with this. If it's really a problem, we could say you can't post a MOC as guerrilla if it took you more than a week to build - on the honor system of course. And next week the High Council blows us all out of the water with a guerrilla back in Steador! Okay, I know that might not be feasible anyways if we took the wise precaution of rooting the HC out of the neighboring squares first. -
Great work on that tree, it has a nice weeping willow feel! The reeds are nice as well!

Challenge IV, Category C explained. RULES THREAD
Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Oh, yes, I understood that. I was just worried that if I only got two this time, who knows how many I'll get next time... Alright, I think I got it, but just in case, say it all over again... Seriously though, is the question - Which team had the better MOC? or, Which is better, all four counters taken together or the original (up to four) guerrillas? That of course puts a real challenge on doing just one guerrilla per square, even if the square is just worth one point. On the other hand, it makes guerrilla very much like warzone, only picked by whoever and with a one week deadline. To clarify my question by giving an example: Guerrilla build A Guerrilla build B Counter A Counter B Counter C Counter D Good citizens of Historica! We call upon you to decide which team deserves this highly contested square! Vote your decision below! Now, does the voter do this: Well, counters C&D are lousy so we'll just cross them out. On their own, neither come even close to beating either Guerrilla. Counter A is better than Guerrilla B. But on the other hand Guerrilla A is way better than Counter B, and than A, C, and D too. So, I say the guerrillas won. Why? Because Guerrilla A is better than any one of the Counters (including the best one, A) and Guerrilla B looses to Counter A only by a slim margin. Or, do the voter's thoughts look like this: Well, both Guerrillas are pretty good, but of course two builds can't hold a candle to the effort shown by all the four counters combined, so the counters win. Or, I suppose it could be, Wow, those two guerrillas are really good! Even better than all four counters put together! So they win. -

Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I only seem to have gotten two (on my guerrilla). Thus my concern. Okay, so let's see if I got this right... if two people counter one guerrilla the final decision as to who gets the square will be those two builds vs. one? I assumed it would be the team of whoever's build was best of the three - thus one-on-one. Also, did I get it right that a team can build more guerrillas for a square than that square is worth points? -
C'm on guys, you're the biggest team and you don't have your own PM thread? Someone's just sitting around.... This week though, the HC doesn't have to worry. There's only one guerrilla for you to respond to. Just do the best you can to (cleverly) undo/revenge yourself upon whatever the build you're countering is (some things of course are more difficult to undo than others!). The size is dictated by the build you're countering, give or take a few studs.
