  1. Deadpool is being made by Fox. Marvel is currently feuding with Fox. They cancelled Fantastic Four and have denied any merchandising, pretty much pulling the property from the public space. Equally they are steadily downplaying the X-Men in their comic and other media properties and making an effort to shift that role and focus to the INhumans. Going so far as to kill off Wolverine. Deadpool is part of that same Fox license bundle as FF and X-Men. So no we will not be seeing any Lego stuff surrounding the movie. Marvel has absolute veto of any Lego sets, and unless things with Fox change the safe bet is they will exercise it.
  2. Looking at it, I think the only ones that are at the 19 day cutoff point, that currently have a hope of hitting 10k are the Adventuretime set, the Nathan Sawaya one and likely the other Golden Girls set (just because it will ride the sudden interest in the property now that the one hit 10k.) not much else in the 19 days left group would have any organized push to drive them home.
  3. Oh the stupidity! Polygon's Deputy News Editor Mike McWorther apparently heard what Lego's new secretly teased new game project, Lego Dimensions, was via back channels. And in a move of truly inspired stupidity decided to Cybersquat on the LegoDimensions.com domain name and point it at his Polygon article. https://archive.today/g9FJx (Archives used to preserve deleted tweet stupidity) Needless to say hilarity has ensued. As it stands now the domain is pointing to Lego.com and McWhorter is trying to walk it back as a joke. Indications are the Lawyers are not amused.
  4. I find it interesting that both things shown so far have Warner Brothers ties or are part of Lego/WB partnerships. Which leads me to suspect it is something media related ala TV or Movie or game tie in, and not signs of a new theme.
  5. I think we may see a Daredevil set, but more akin to the Spider-man animated sets. The Netflix shows look to be a bit too dark and gritty to trigger a Lego set of them specifically. Maybe an SDCC fig however. Of course we will see more Spider-Man sets. They seem to be Lego's Goto between movie property. Figure we are due for a Lizard now that Marvel and Sony are playing nice. I would not be surprised to see more GotG before the next movie. Probably based on the animated show. Likely new figs? Any version of Captain Marvel. Mantis. Cosmo. Maybe a long shot on Bug (fairly easy to do using a green Castle Evil Helmet). Ravenous as a big fig maybe? Weirdly I don't think Adam Warlock is high on the to do list. Just a strange hard to pin down character. Oh and maybe, just maybe, if every possible star aligns just right there might be the faintest chance of seeing the Hero Factory minifigs repurposed to make a Spaceknight. Rumor is Marvel and James Gunn would really like to find a way to work with Hasbro to allow Rom's use. I think we will finally see at least one THOR based set showing some other Asgardians, such as Heimdall, Sif and the Warriors three. I also think we will finally see some sort of Agents of Shield set.
  6. But, as we see with the Helicarrier, on rare occasions, connections that had previously been considered illegal may be re evaluated as the parts themselves evolve and are re engineered.
  7. It looks good. Probably as close as we could get in Lego. It has that nice land ship feel.
  8. I think the best hope for Lego in that regard is to leverage camera recognition, similar to what they are playing with with the Fusion games. Because of its modular nature Lego is very well suited to camera recognition, while at the same time embedding RFIDs in certain components limits to ability to mix and match and build, thus taking away from the core product. So some further evolution into a fused collectable toy -> video game type platform is probably guaranteed, I think Lego's best business course would be to skip over the expensive embedded custom RFID tech step that Skylanders and Disney use.
  9. At this point it could go either way. The PS is not officially EOL'd yet. But I am sure available stock is dwindling to near nothing, and they are unlikely to do another production run. So it may simply organically sell out. They won't say so because there are still some in the pipeline somewhere. CHances are you will get your order as product is routed around and returned from stores to free up shelf space. But this is probably pretty much the end of the line for PS.
  10. The only discernible predictable pattern to date with the Modulars is "corner - straight - straight -repeat" Cafe Corner - Green Grocer - Fire Brigade Grand Emporium - Town Hall - Pet Shop Palace Cinema - Parisian Restaurant - Detectives Office (Next) If they follow their pattern they should be starting on the 4th leg of the full city block.
  11. I would be very very surprised if it plays out that way. The chances are almost overwhelming that the Ideas sets will simply be viewed as a license conflict and fail at review. Much the same as the Western Tavern conflicted with LR. And honestly the bulk of the decision will probably rest with the licensor, not with Lego. That is something we often fail to appreciate. With unlicensed subjects the decision is entirely Lego's for business reasons. For new licenses it mostly comes down to whether or not a deal can be reached, with the expected give and take etc. but for pre existing licenses, above and beyond any other considerations the licensor has absolute veto. If it does not fit their marketing plans, down it goes. If they are unwilling to extend or expand to cover the subject, that's it. Remember also we have seen no hints that Lego has an older Jurrasic Park license. In fact there were reports that Hasbro KreeO had that property at one point, although I suspect KreeO is dying a fairly rapid death and the license would appear to have reverted.
  12. Sigh! The poor poor under appreciated BURPS. They are not new. They go back decades. In fact Lego very rarely creates new large pieces these days that aren't fairly adaptable. But lets talk about the much maligned BURPS a bit. They are there to solve a problem. Providing elevation and effect while minimizing weight and still serving a crucial load bearing role. Think how many bricks you need to get the height and strength of a large BURP? They help provide a solid elevated base for building upon within the budget and parts capacity of most kids. Most of the larger pieces are there to create a balance between weight, part budget and build complexity for a younger child. The big examples being panels, which date to the earliest days of Castle I believe, BURPS, and a handful of specialized pieces such as plane parts which have existed in evolving forms for decades. I think the only new large parts have mainly been either wheels or canopies. most new stuff has either been character specific, details or new multi use construction elements.
  13. No it means creating something wholly new and non derivative that will appeal to people enough to be a viable product is harder than it looks. People who are good at it typically do it for a career.
  14. Licensed properties can get a little weird in terms of the otherwise absolute Lego will not do rules. While I don't think they are likely to do Moe's, they did do the PotC Tavern complete with Kegs, etc. they did the Hobbit Wine Celler, with kegs, glasses, bottles and drunken elves. So the lines are not quite black and white.
  15. It's what they consider a "modern era" warship. And thus on the verboten list. Exacerbated by the fact that the battleship seems the primary build or model, with the Martian War Machine a secondary detail.
  16. Hey! If you step through Antimaters portal does it take you to the Elves Magical Treehouse? (at which point the weird pointy eared chick with the spray on tan barbecues and eats the Agents?) PS I know there have been some dev comments that at least some of them view Ultra Agents as a future story/setting placed 20-30 years after Galaxy Squad. Does anyone else get the feeling that it also sockets in quite nicely as a prequel to Space Police III? Like this is the origin of what would become the Space Police?
  17. If Lego were to do a new Vikings theme it would at a minimum need a new mold for the bow/stern of the ship to bring it inline with the bottom hull pieces they currently use for Pirates. The slightly narrower width and using technic pins to secure it rather than bricks. I would also be more prone to expect some sort of Viking theme, if they were going to do one at all, closer to a "How to Train Your Dragon 3" release, just to play into the mood. I also would not be surprised to see Lego take a stab at landing a license for HTTYD3 after the poor showing from Ionix. That fits the multi movie franchise model that they like to buy into. Short answer I doubt that the next Castle will be a Viking theme. But I could see it a little farther out one way or another.
  18. I agree. I have modified some Lego hinge bricks to use as smooth inexpensive hinges in non Lego modelling projects. It felt weird, dirty and evil. Like you were doing something you knew you should never even be doing.
  19. As I recall There were a number of female reviewers that seemed to jump on that Leia Bikini idea at one point. Including one rather well tanned blonde who filmed such a review wearing the outfit alongside her young daughters. I'm not sure I see the controversy involving the Slave Leia costume? It's from a 30 year old movie that was largely targeted at 12 year old boys. It's a bikini. A standard female issue swimming costume, dressed up a bit. I'm fairly certain there isn't anything there that would be considered mentally scarring to kids? Heck the kids get more out of the outfit. They simply see the reviewer playing dress up. I don't think we need to be discussing how our female AFOL's dress so much. Let a reviewer stand or fall based on their actions and words. BQ leaves the impression that there may be some things she has done worth talking about and mulling over. I don't think wardrobe choice or cleavage is ever really one of them. And dudes, if you are watching Lego reviews for the cleavage... We really gotta have a talk. If your child is seemingly watching Lego reviews for the cleavage, then in today's age of the interwebz and rule 34, you have a stupid child. Get him remedial help.
  20. So am I right in thinking that Lego is thanking all that is holy that they released this as an in house "Speed Champions" line, rather than the rumored and expected "Top Gear" license, today? http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/jeremy-clarkson-suspended-recap-after-5306822 Host suspended for racism, tail end of season cancelled, BBC chaos rains.
  21. Those price points probably mean the BBT set and Wall-E. That would match up with the expected size and piece count.
  22. Smaug was likely put in the theme precisely where WB and New Line wanted him to be. Just as he is red in ?Lego because that is the color the WB licensing department approved for him. Somewhere there is either an interview or some part of a documentary film where they talk about this sort of thing specifically using the LoTR and Hobbit lines. They explain how the Cave Troll design and color came to be, and show much of the design process for the Dwarf headpieces. And explain how it all gets signed off by the licensor at various steps.
  23. The review for "impossible license" happens at 1000 votes. Until then it is simply a sub 1k project that a staffer liked. The staffer likely knows nothing of licensing issues.
  24. I suspect when he ran out of Apendices with which to pad the project out to 3 movies he dug out his old school D&D manuals and slipped them in while no one was looking. See; Worn, Purple
  25. I know how some feel about stickers, but I gotta say this line is probably the best argument there is in support of them. They so make the cars pop. And the cars are great. Good clean representations of some uber cars in 6 wide. I did not expect to fall in love with this line. But these things are adorable. And I think the little baggies of new hub caps may be the years coolest most useful new parts. The greebly possibilities are endless. Fans, ducts, engines. Heck I hope for some scifi set they do those new disk brake wheels in trans clear or trans blue with the black or grey hub caps to give some space engines some depth and flair. Of the other new parts? I'm not yet sold on the new wheel arches. They look good and do seem to add some structural stability to the cars, but they seem more awkward to work with, and they seem less generically useful in non car projects. The classic fenders have established themselves are great tools for architectural build etc.
