Well ok Palp's has a much higher piece count. But what are you getting for that? How is that increased piece count showing up? Because it does not appear to be a substantially larger set? If anything it has fewer "play" features? Is the detailing that much greater? And if so how much of a value add is that in a play set? I get that there is a per piece element to the pricing. But traditionally that has more or less equated to the overall size and complexity of the sets. Unless there are some really over the top hidden features going on here, it has that suspicious feel of "use smaller pieces to the same end". I'm not saying that Lego is trying to manipulate anything or overprice anything. They have their pricing formulas and such, and they are in part based on per piece. But I just don't think they are hitting that price to value comparison sweet spot in this one. Of course if you are looking for a reason to get this thing, 2 words. "cloud city". This is the overpriced play set that is only going to appeal to the adult collectors. Add to that that it is an exclusive to certain stores. Most Lego purchasing parents are going to walk right past this one. Meaning it will be rarer and have a shorter shelf life. Whereas Jabba's Palace will do quite well. Every Lego loving parent will look at it, dream of the sail barge they always wanted but never got, and buy two. The nearly naked Twi'leck minifigs will quietly find their way to dads figure stash. And there will be tons of Jabba figs and light tan bricks on brick set.

Least appropriate place TLG has placed a flickfire missile.
Faefrost replied to TeufelHund's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Set 8088 the newer version of the Star Wars ARC 170 fighter bomber. It has 2 flick fires, ingeniously linked to the technic gear you turn to open the wings. You tap the gear and the missiles will shoot straight into the nose of your own aircraft. They literally point straight into the fuselage. I'm also a little confused by the ffm's on the 7964 Republic Frigate. So we are shooting the barrels of our laser cannons at the enemy? -
As far as getting larger amounts of bricks in specific colors. Keep an eye peeled for clearence sets. As a current example, some Walmarts still have some Pharoahs Quest sets that they have been blowing out at insanely low prices. Those have a ton of the colors you are asking about. Also keep an eye on Aliens Conquest for blues. While you could probably build a really really nice modular MOC from the Medieval Market Village alone, it is almost a shame to do so, as that set is on par with the Modulars. But it would have a ton of your colors, as would the Mill Village Attack. As far as light and darl blue grey. Star Wars sets. Although granted they tend to be far more plates than bricks. As far as MOC's, start small, but still keep it within the Modular footprint. Maybe a small fenced or walled park with a fountain next to the town hall? Something that you can add a lot do detail to, using some fairly common colors, but aren't yet building upwards for 2 or 3 stories. That would let you play with not just a place, but also a scene, and not require as large a brick library.

ROFL! That is such a great little scene, perfectly executed. Don't change a thing. The clinger works perfectly.

It took me awhile for it to finally pin down what bothers me about the Palpatines Arrest set. Look at it. Now look at 6868 Hulks Helicarrier Breakout. The two sets are very similar in content. Each is a play set with some angled platforms, a good amount of licensed minifigs and a small vehicle. Really very similar in terms of content. 6868 is $49 USD. Palpatine is $99. It certainly isn't a major difference in the size of the kit? The play sets aren't that far off. And if they are then someone is just padding the piece count to inflate the price. Ok fine Palp's has 2 extra minifigs, whereas HHB has a huge Hulk. Is that enough to justify double the price? (or worse if this thing hits TRU) I typically hand Lego money hand over fist. This is one of the first ones to make me pause and ask "you want me to pay how much? For office space?" this would have been the years best set at $49. It would have been a great set at $79. At $100 a pop, sorry no. That hits my final mental wall.

It may depend on what the set is. I've noticed in the US that most of the smaller sets, particularly the battle pack type sets, still use the glued ends with thumb punch outs. It's just the mid sized and larger sets that use the tape seals.

The concept? It's a supersonic capable VTOL transport used by the Avengers as the majority of their team members do not fly on their own. The comic book version was one of the more consistently drawn aircraft for a few decades. it's purpose is not unlike the more well known X-Men Blackbird. The Lego Quinjet is based on the design featured in the recent Avegers movie. In that case it was a small to medium sixed VTOL transport aircraft owned and operated by Shield from thei Helicarrier base. It is About the size nd utility of a Blackhawk helicopter. Bigger than a fighter but smaller than an Osprey. The Lego model is surprisingly close in size and scale, and is probably s close as you could get using minifigs instead of scale figures.

It wouldn't work. Whatever the seal is has to be visable and intact on the outer box, otherwise someone would still buy it, only to bring it home and find the inner seal broken.

They were attacked yesterday. They locked down a lot of the SQL security and database security privileges until they can get everything patched. That is hat is causing these errors for he most part.

Is Lego Star Wars the most successful SW toy line ever?
Faefrost replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Kenner is pretty much what funded the last 5 movies, just from sales of toys. That is where George Lucas made all of his money. While the Lego SW license has been extremely profitable to both sides, I don't hint it comes close to what Kenner and now Hasbro has raked in. Lego has yet to manage to sell an empty box for high profits. -
Ideas for New Action Themes
Faefrost replied to Perry the Platypus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It may or may not be a dumb name. But it does have the ring of a name dreamed up by old white guys in an attempt to make a female centric comic series in the 70's and 80's... Which is what it sorta kinda was. Marvel Comics already owns that one. It was about a secret team of 5 or 6 female SHIELD agents working for Nick Fury, and led by his girlfriend the Contessa. As you can probably guess, Stan Lee Gave the book that name. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Faefrost replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I suspect that he Disney licensing will continue in some form. Don't forget Marvel is now Disney. So a substantial portion of what is on shelves now traces back to a Disney license in one way or another. Granted PoP was a dud, but I think PotC did well and there seems to be an abundance of Cars that isn't getting blown out in clearence sales. So the license is probably an overall winner. -
Oh! I just had the mental image of them doing these using that new glow in the dark plastic and printing they have been using for Monster Hunters. Do the figs mainly white with printing (the soldiers will mainly be variants on the classic skellie), they they glow in that prefect green! :oh:

Ooooo! I hadn't thought of that one. I have an extra computer nerd and an extra pinstripe suited civilian guy from Alien Conquest. I'm thinking I may have the fixings for a decent out of armor Tony Stark. Maybe even a Matching Pepper Potts.

I just saw these posted as deals at the US S@H site. They are offering complete bundles of all of the Lord of the Rings sets or all ( but the zombies) Monster Fighters sets. They also have an Uruk Hai Army + Helms Deep bundle for the cost that TRU is selling HD alone. Kind of neat if you can take the budget hit all at once like that.

AFOL Shopping at Lego UK stores Sunday 3 June 2012
Faefrost replied to Calv's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Wow, what a neat idea. You mean I could go in and rummage through the build a minifig bins without looking like a weirdo? BRILIANT! -
The best ( or worst) way to view the price of the Jabba's Palace set. It combines the high prices of the SW licensed sets with the even higher relative prices of the Dino sets ( large complicated custom painted creatures). So in one huge set we get the worst pricing of both worlds. At least they give us a ton of tan bricks to go along with it. Why they would be fantastic to do a moc of... Jabba's Palace! Ummm? I just saw a post that he SW sets were being seen in Australia. Any sign of them in the US or Canada yet?

Sadly I don't think the original version of that kit sold all that well. The set is remembered for great minifigs and an annoying ship that was prone to fall apart. The only reason we may see it again is it shows up in CW used by both Dooku and by Ventriss. I actually think we have a better chance of seeing Ventriss's fan blade fighter instead. ( with Ventriss, Dooku's and Obi Wan or Anakin figs)

The MF in ep3 is a very small Easter egg. It is seen from a distance landing in the port. It is in a blue and white/ silver paint scheme. Futaba actually made a miniature of it in their F toys line. As far as duels, did they ever actually make a set of the 3way ep 1 duel between Maul, qui Gon and Obi Wan?
-
That is marvelously done. I worked and rode on those things for years, and you nailed them dead on. Just perfect. Well done.

Yeah, the more I think on it, the more I really love the idea of a movie theater. It's an old model Railroaders trick. You aren't just trying to model a place, but a specific time or feel. Theaters are very good at setting that moment in time subtly, while still being really cool interesting buildings in their own right. As more people build groups of modular kits they are starting to create a scene not unlike a model railroad. So the principle applies. The theater would let them say not just where, but when, down to the weekend or day.

Whatever you do, don't click on the links in that post. edit nevermind looks like they got it fast.

As the topic says. What are some of the Star Wars related subjects that Lego has not yet attempted in any form yet? ( and that we of course would like to see) For example Episode 1 Naboo Royal Cruiser Various "other" pod racers, including Anakins unpainted. Trade Federation capital ship Episode 2 Republic Acclimator class Assault ship Corruscant public transport Low class passenger space liner Naboo Royal Skiff Episode 3 Bail Organas speeder Padme's ship Invisible Hand Milenium Falcon in blue and silver markings Episode 4 Not a lot undone. Mainly SE added stuff like the speeders and freighters on Tatooine. Maybe the Outrider if you push it. Episode 5 Rebel Transport Medical Frigate Episode 6 Mon Calamari cruiser Ewok Village Clone Wars Hounds Tooth Z-95 headhunter Jedi Air Speeder Bubble nosed Jedi shuttle Zilo Beast Luxury Yacht 3000 (also known as Lady Luck) Trandosian hover pods Trandosian slave ship Salvage ship Fan Blade fighter ( Ventriss's fighter) Escape pod So what else am I missing?

If you want a similar look in the CMF, but without the flesh tones, one of the more common Alien Conquest ADF figs has a face somewhat similar to the Clone Pilot, with those orange goggles, but in a yellow head.

My only real issue with the Palpatine set is the price. Like so many recent Lego SW sets it just feels about $20 USD too high for what it is. Just a bit steep for the dedicated Jedi collectors it seems to be aiming for. ( and make no bones about it, this set is targeted squarely at the AFOL collectors. Kids aren't real big on play sets where all of the heroic figs get carved up like a radioactive tuna at a sushi joint. At least not in most of that 6 to 12 range... Well not the ones that you would sleep soundly under the same roof with, if you know what I mean). I will probably get this set eventually to further expand my army of named Jedi, but it's not top of the list, and will fall well below the Sith Fury, the skiff, the per vizla and probably even the Bongo.
