Oh heck yeah! Please please please a Galaxy Patrol vs Aliens set I'd also happily accept any sort of Medieval set.
-
Hobbit Day? We keep telling you all, the Welsh are simply short and hairy, they are not in fact actual Hobbits.
-
For me, from among the newer stuff that I currently own? It's a tie between the Medieval Market Village and the Aliens Conquest Earth Defense HQ. my all time favorite from childhood was the classic Space Cruiser.
-
Sort of a heavy handed Easter egg, but Agents set 8633 actually has "sharks with laser beams". Dr. Evil would be so proud.
-
No real reason to do James Bond. They have their own Agents line which covers that territory and let's them flex it a bit for humor and play appeal. Should they choose to resurrect it. Plus most kids don't really know classic James Bond like they used to. And straight up JB gets a little too close to their real world violence prohibitions. Oddly I don't think Star Trek would be a great Lego subject. Because of how the shows were made there are a limited number of very similar ships and scenes. I love Trek. I model Trek extensively. I just don't think it is a good fit for Lego. Ghostbusters would be cool. The only downside is the property is a bit long in the tooth. I don't think a full blown stand alone licensed line would work. But if they ever do a "classics of SciFi" type theme where they can do one or two subjects each from a variety of classic shows, then GB would be at the top of the list. TMNT would be a great subject, provided Michael Bay doesn't destroy the property. The turtles would be easy to do as minifigs. Standard minifig body, with a shell backpack type attachment. The van just screams build me in Lego. The only negative is they are essentially already playing in this niche without the license with Ninjago.

It would have been nice if they had a little more variety in the civilian figs. A rare and expensive to get reporter, an uncommon farmer, and a clone army of "Ed from Sales and Marketing" . Although on the plus side, the more modern / current nature of the theme makes it real easy to flesh out the population using extras from the CMF's. Both civilian and ADF.

I actually like the tripods more just for the Alien Fighter top part. The legs really don't do much for me. It's by far the most swooshable of the Alien ships. Even if you can't find it at $13, Target has been clearing them out at $17. (I think I saw Target had that Heavy Lift Chopper on sale this week for a few bucks off as well. It fits in well with the AC theme. Either as an AC transport, or as a way to have the Lego President greet the Aliens.)
-
Sadly those were the only AC ones that I found. It looked like they were clearing out all the Lego and games and puzzles as a 40% off "white dot special". I am kicking myself however. They had two of the 21010 Robbie House and one 21005 Falling Water or around $60 each. I normally don't pay attention to the Architectural, but I happened to look those two up on Bricklink. Egads! :cry_sad:

Now you have me wondering? My Quinjet cockpit closes perfectly. But I have one pie shaped roof section of my 7965 Milenium Falcon that behaves in the same way. It just keeps popping open or rises above the others? I think it uses a similar clip piece?

Hmmm? Looking at this as a mental project. We can get close to a lot of this now using some current or still available sets. The dual rotor helicopter with the net can be converted from the City Police Heavy Lift Helicopter. The Alien Mecha can probably be improvised using the Lex Luthor suit from the Superman/Wonder Woman set. (the drawing actually looks a lot like the Agents Robot). We see some figures that could be accomplished with the CMF Series 7 Galaxy Patrol figs and the Series 4 Haz Mat guys. The fighter, the Ninjago blue fighter is a good match if you strip off the gold Ninja stuff. That large APC Tank truck is a little trickier to match to the drawing. But something similar can probably be MOC'd up? The hardest thing would be the big Alien ship with the brain. Does anyone know what the blue think in the lower left is? I sense a challenge!

For the pricing difference between the US and Europe, don't forget it is not a simple matter of looking at the relative currency valuation or conversion. There are also separate costs of getting the product to market on the two continents. Namely shipping. If you look at the % differences between Us and Euro Lego pricing you will see they rather closely mirror the costs of fuel in those two regions. Lego is more than double the cost in Europe because fuel is double, which means moving the product to market is doubled, etc. yeah there are other factors such as the simple fact that a merchant prices to what the market will bear, and Europeans are much more accustomed to bearing more. But regardless the single biggest factor in the difference is dual and transportation costs. ( plus some real estate costs. Shelf space in Europe is much more expensive per meter.)

It's actually the official name of that Space Marine CMF that really makes me think that is what they at least we're planning. TLG calls him the "Galaxy Patrol" figure. That's an interesting name, that really sucks a lot of the militarism out of it. It leaves the impression of a more multirole theme more akin to a space going Coast Guard than a planetary invasion or war. As I said it is an interesting name. While the fig is clearly setup for the two sided conflict that drives so many boys toys these days, it also calls back to classic space with the name. It seems to call back to he Galaxy Explorer or the Space Cruiser and the more exploratory or civilian themes they represented. As I said this is all speculation on our part. But it's a fun guessing game to play.

Thanks. And yeah they were in store specials on the White Dot clearence tables. The boxes are shelf worn a bit, but that means nothing to me as I am a builder not a collector and rarely keep boxes. I ended up paying $48 USD a piece for them, which made me very happy.

It's a cute little if somewhat minimalist set. The glowy horse really is what pulls it up. While the printing on the Ann Lee fig is great the hair is problematic I found. It just does not want to stay firmly on her head. I had a similar issue with Wolverine and Magneto. Has anyone else encountered this?

Which kind of runs counter to the decades old running joke that Spiderman / Peter Parker never learned to drive or get a drivers license. I'm trying to think what Superheroes actually have their own well known vehicles? Fantastic Four has a lot of possibilities. Moon Knight helicopter or mangy cab. Punishervan. X Men Blackbird. Nick Fury flying car. over on the DC side you have the Batmobile, and Blue Beetles bug, and.... Ummm...?
-
Once again thank you so much for the inspiration. This is how my take on the APC has come out so far. Looking at yours really helped me work out the wheel spacing and how to approach that transition from the front of the cab vehicle to the back of the trailer type structure. It holds a crew of 8. Driver, Gunner, 2 Electronic Warfare and Sensor Specialists and 4 Heavy Troopers. It's envisaged more as a Heavy Recon and Response truck, than as a direct combatant. Something to go find the Aliens, call in the major strike team, and fight its way out if necessary. I sort of had the "Mobile Units" from the old Gerry Anderson UFO TV series in mind when thinking about its job. (This is also probably why I have it staffed out with a trio of cobbled together semi custom "Angel"'s in matching red white and blue heavy armor. Plus a Lieutenant in his jaunty beret. Then again it could just have been that it was 3am and I was in a weird mood.) I also have enough parts to make a half height (or simply the bottom half) of a middle stage extra trailer for the full EDF HQ. Will definately need to Bricklink a bit to get it fully built up.
-
Thanks! I actually just found 2 EDF HQ sets at Barnes & Noble today at 40% off, so I happily started MOC'ing away tonight. I managed to cobble together what I am loosely thinking of as a heavy recon and response APC from one set, and managed to leave the two 6x10 plates and the two main beams to use for an additional trailer for the second set. I'm not sure if that will leave me enough blue parts for it. But hey, it's Lego and I'm making it up as I go. Thank you for the help and the inspiration.

It's to the point hat if the item is still available from either Lego S@H or from the major retailers I will only buy direct from them. ( luckily I am a few miles from a Lego store so finding current stuff is easy for me). For out of production sets I am almost preferring used stuff. Used sets at least almost always seem to be direct person to person. eBay is a horror show of scams. Bricklink has been hit, but perhaps the scariest one is Amazon. They made a huge mistake when they self branded their outside marketplace and tied it into their Amazon internal sales system. You need to be very careful there whether you are buying from Amazon or someone else.
-
I wonder how much grief this causes sites like Bricklink? I mean they are a Lego buying selling and trading site. Children's toys? You don't exactly expect to be fencing stolen merchandise on this scale when you set up something like that?
-
While this does not sound like what you are finding, one other way that Lego seems to pop up for ceramics lately involves a more recent ceramic texturing technique used by ceramic and clay working types. They use Lego bricks to stamp the stud patern into the clay or project. A friend of mine that operates a kiln recently came by and mooched a handful of old bricks to use in classes.

You know, I think they outright told us what the next theme may be. Just look at the name of the Series 7 minifig. Galaxy Patrol. Something more along the lines of AQ's ADF in space. With Galactic peacekeepers out defending humanity and keeping the assorted planets safe. A little harder and less cartoony than Space Police, with the possibility to tie together some of the other themes. Who gets sent to rescue those miners on Mars? Who responds to the alien invasion of earth? Who keeps the space lanes safe for the Mtrons? Who stands between the Space Police and not just Alien criminals, but alien Armies? It would just be balanced enough where the series could have all of those Halo'esque Space Marine things like a drop ship, or APC's, but without that completely brutal "space war is hell" undertone.

True, the summer SW sets seem to be more geared to those looking for specific figs and not simply armies. But I don't think that at least some of the current winter released army builder sets are going away anytime soon. And that probably counts in their planning. Sadly I suspect that Palpatines Arrest will be. Jedi force builder. The Three featured soon to be ex Jedi and the Emperor. Lego will stay well away from anything that involves the clones at that point in the movie. A bit too close to child massacres by named popular clone characters I fear. It would be so cool to see some varied theme minifig or Army build packs. A 4 or 5 pack of Galaxy Patrol types. ( better yet in ADF blue) a 4 pack of those Sith Troopers. Sadly they seem to have concentrated all of their Army building sets and resources at LotR. On a positive note keep your eyes on Barnes and Noble. They seem to be clearing everything AQ out at really good deals. I was just able to grab 2 Earth Defense HQ's at 40% off list today. ( so $48 USD). Time for s ome major AQ MOC'ing

How well do those actually sell compared to the regular kits? I ask just because at least for the Super Heroes line they always seem to be the last thing standing on the shelves. I think they were the only Marvel themed items that didn't sell out instantly over the Avengers opening weekend in my local TRU, Walmart and Lego store. The Star Wars ones look really good if you are into that sort of thing.
-
As I said above I really love that APC. I hope you dont mind if I borrow a few of your concepts to make one? Because that is just too perfect for any ADU scene. Once question that I had. By my rough eyeballing you should have ended up with around enough materials to make a small 4 wheeled module with no cockpit or rear ramp. Did it seem feasible to put the male and female trailer attachments on it, and slip it into the main EDHQ truck as a third middle module? Maybe as a radar and tracking truck to support the Viper? My other thoughts for my in development ADU scene is to conscript a few of those chunky Dino Trucks in to do duty as the ADU Alien Crash Recovery team. I just need a few more guys in Haz Mat suits.

Oh I think they have been looking at the rabid interest in the Space Marine concept, and how sought after that Galaxy Patrol fig has become by Army builders. As far as the concept fitting into Lego? Their main issue with violence is real world human on human violence. Human v Alien is AOK. I mean really, just look at some of the older Space sets. They are basically the humans strip mining Alien Worlds to the detriment of the locals. Often ending in violence. Power Miners was even worse. I am hoping that they do take a second look at AC and we get a continuation next year. Hopefully if that does happen, they will combine some lessons learned. The original AC line while great was lacking in Hero sets in the mid to low mid price range. Just the Jet Copter (which takes a little while to grow on you). Given the interest in the GP minifig, they need some low and mid priced stuff that supports Army building more. The Aliens while quirky and amusing are really just the cannon fodder. The only real danger with the AC/Space stuff drifting towards a more Army Building type of fan, it may get quashed to avoid conflict with the Clones and Stormtroopers
