  1. I believe that DC/Warner Brothers are actually the ones with the final say regarding figure designs and colors in these sets. Lego makes the figs using the design and color patterns that DC provides. They cannot simply do what they want.
  2. Lego has to dance on a certain narrow line with the Chris Nolan Batman movies. They want to exploit them for marketing, Lego licensed stuff always sells better when a movie is out, but they really can't make many truly "cannon" scenes from the movies due to the extreme nature of some of the violence. (Hey! look here! New Joker slaughters a bank playset with new splattering blood pieces.) So they basically use the newer movie stylings and designs in more traditional scenes and stories.
  3. CuuSoo is both at the same time, and you can't really have success in it without both. You need a new or compelling idea. And then it needs to be well presented and executed. It's that simple. No 10k votes without both. And to make it all the way through, ideally well presented means a bit more than either not Ning more than a wish list for Lego to work out the details, or a super spectacular MOC. The challenge is to design something that grabs the attention at under 1000 pieces.
  4. Regarding Street Fighter. Lego looks at the nature of the source matrial, not simply individual pieces of content. They will not accept certain types of games as source material for projects. High on the list are FPS games and Fighters. The Portal project was originally rejected because they believed it was an FPS. In the case of Street Fighter, I don't think that will be revised or appealed. Lego does not feel fighting games are appropriate. Street Fighter is pretty much the definition and template of a fighting game. There's just no wiggle room there.
  5. At that price it's worth it if just forthe parts and figs. The ship itself is ok, but was just grossly overpriced at released. The minifigs in the set are however fantastic. Some of the absolute best SW figs. If nothing else the set has a ton of assorted blew plates and hinges.
  6. Did you notice where the box was actually shipped from? You have to be very careful on e-bay with sets that are still available through Lego s@h or TRU or Walmart online. Especially the more expensive ones. It's called the drop ship scam. The seller lists the set at slightly below Msrp so it seems like a llegit deal. You buy it from the seller via cc (heaven forbid) or PayPal. The seller than buys the set from the online merchant such as s@h using a stolen credit card number, and has it drop shipped to you. It may be weeks before the actual owner of the card discovers the fraudulent charge and has it reversed. At that point the legit online merchant is out the money and the merchandise, and you are technically holding stolen goods, while the scammer walks off with your money. And Lego s@h will no longer take your orders, since your address is in their database as a scammer. Fun isn't it?
  7. Fantastic looking ship! Great job, but I strongly suggest you change the name. While not technically obscene, that' s not a name or word you want to be using on an English language forum about children's toys. It's sort of very specifically anatomical in nature.
  8. We have so automated the retail process that the cashier no longer even looks at the actual product. Businesses have spent the last generation purging initiative and product knowledge from their sales staff in favor of more trustworthy machines and fewer cheaper less skilled humans. This is the end result.
  9. I think falcon will just use the MF manbat arms, probably in red. Unless they radically redesign his traditional costume for CA2.
  10. They can't though. Remember the creator of a project gets a royalty. So CuuSoo operates by individual users project. You can't combine them.
  11. this is a video of that books authors lectureto Financial Times. It's really fascinating. Both for Lego buffs and as a business case study. It also really explains some of the changes that have led to our modern golden age of Lego. http://vimeo.com/34924096 My personal favorite is that "this is our Firetruck" moment. Pretty much that exact moment when we started to see the change in design that has led to so many great modern sets.
  12. The obvious one is a Galaxy Patrol / Space Marines Space sub theme. I think some sort of Fairy tail theme would work. Or at the minimum a Witches Gingerbread Cottage in a similar type set to the new upcoming Haunted House. An Age of Exploration theme might have issues. Ie the problem with making a theme about Conquistadors is what they are. Conquerors. I'm thinking from the Central and South American standpoint there may be some issues. Granted Lego did manage to step carefully around the whole idea with how they managed to sub divide their Western theme, so you never know.
  13. With The Hobbit looming we probably will not see a lot of unlicensed dragon love. At least not for the next year. Figure they have a Smaug set in the works, and probably an Eowyn vs the Witch King.
  14. From a foreign business perspective Australia is a bit of a hurdle. It has the vast distances similar to North America but without the widespread North American population or rather customer density. It has Europen style taxes, tariffs and fuel and transport costs, but without the European short travel distances and once again the high customer density. From the shippers perspective there really is very little difference in costs between shipping a portion of a container and shipping a full container. But that overall cost of shipping the container must be amortized over the number of purchasers of the product that comes out of that container. And this escalates and increases at every step of shipping. So they only ship what hey can sell into the population or customer base, and base prices around how much of it they will sell and the costs of getting it there.
  15. White should be fairly easy to find. Among many other things keep an eye out for the Star Wars T 6 Jedi Shuttle on clearence. I think I just saw in in target for $41. It has a ton of white, including. Lot of useful slopes and such. Black will be a bit trickier depending on what you need and how much. A lot of sets have black, just not many sets have a lot of black. Well besides the Black Pearl. In your price range, maybe some of the Batman sets? A few of the Atlantis sets such as Gateway of the Squid also had a good amount of black, if you can find them on clearance.
  16. This It's a solo Army Builder. But it is a great and reasonably affordable MOC builder.
  17. Wow! http://www.geekologie.com/2012/07/150000-piece-working-it-moves-lego-jet-e.php I mean really just jaw dropping
  18. TRU has finally started to get some of the new SW sets here. I decided to spring for the TRU Tax and get the 9497 Republic Striker to keep me entertained for the weekend. I want the Sith Fury, but will wait till the Lego store has them out so I can both get VIP points and avoid the obscene tru markup. (better than 20%!) The Striker is both less and more than I was expecting. It's not a bad little fighter. Not as good as any of the recent OT ones, but far better than the V Wing or any of the Jedi Fighters. The minifigs are interesting. I know part of the story lore explains why the Republic Trooper forgoes a helmet. But he still really really needed one for his fig. It sits well next to any of the other SW ships. Especially if you leave the wings open. (closed seems to lack something in swoosh factor).
  19. I think the fig may actually be closer to a few of the Ultimate comic book appearances of Nick Fury? At least the blue shirt?
  20. It's also one of the most MOC'able sets that has been released in ages. It's just so easy to make so many other decent ADU vehicles by starting with this set. (although get two at least. You will want oneto build as recommended, and a few more to experiment with.)
  21. I like it. It just needs one thing. Given its wingspan and the rear separately pyloned engines, and the twin tail, it looks like the ADF variant of an A10 Warthog. A tank killer designed to shred heavily armored tripods. As such it needs a big honking gattling gun slung under the nose. Now if you are looking to turn something into a more fast attack air interceptor, there is an inexpensive Ninjago set that almost perfectly color matches. Just strip off the gold ninja stuff and add air to air missiles.
  22. The Problem is don't most American type football teams have numbers chest and back? Team Logo's are on the helmet and shoulders. Logo on the chest is Hockey players.
  23. The S1 Cowboy and the matching S6 Bandit always remind me of the old "Johnny West" action figure line from Marx back in the 60's and 70's.
  24. You will be hard pressed to find anything comparable to the MMV. It is quite possibly one of the top 2 or 3 sets Lego has ever produced. Just fantastic in every single way. Now if you are looking for something to add to it? MVR is probably the best bet. Yeah it's not quite up to MMV. But it has such a nice selection of appropriate figs and animals, and the barn itself is wonderful. The windmill you can leave out. It will flesh out that town scene better than anything else. Second runner up is Joust, mainly just for the figs and the accesory stalls and such. I've never been able to work the walls in in my space. Diagon Alley is a superb set. If you are looking to do something a little more modern fantasy, such as a Terry Pratchett Diskworld scene it works perfectly. The newer Hagrids Hut makes a perfect Witches Hut. I know a lot of people like Helms Deep, but I don't think it blends well with stuff like the MMV. Walls seem wrong, figs are wrong, etc. Of the LotR sets Gandalf Returns works, the Orc Forge isn't bad and the new Bag End will be great.
  25. I think we will be getting a large amount in what looks to be the biggest set. Arkham Assylum. It looks like Batman, Hooded/Red Robin, civilian Harley Q, Joker in prison suit, Scarecrow, Penguin, and maybe a guard?
