    Cars topic

He's not wiping it in our faces, Case. This is a car topic, afterall! Man, I never knew a debate over cars could get so heated! Modified or not, it's all a matter of preference. Whatever floats your cars, huh? X-D Anyhoo, I don't exactly have a favorite car, but almost any sports car appeals to me. Ferraris, Aston Martins, anything sleek like those instantly wins me over. My favorite one would have to be the SMART car, simply because it's so versatile and asthetically pleasing. The SMART Roadster Brabus is also amazing, but others will disagree. Another favorite of mine is the Mustang GT (Pardon my spelling, if I got it wrong) not because it's a muscle car, but because of this: http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5136/may20056yp1.jpg What can I say? I'm a sucker for cars which transform into giant robots, especially Wheeljack! :-D EDIT: Here's modified for ya!
  2. I can't believe I spent all day in Brickshelf admiring this piece and trying to find the maker only to find that he's here! :-D Anyways, this is truly an amazing work of art. I really like how you've actually covered the entire thing with slick, smoothe tiles. Remarkable! I'm also completely mystified about how you made the front curve like that, so major kudos to that! One thing I'm curious about is if it's possible to put a minifig inside. From the photos thus far, it seems like it can, seeing as how the cockpit is the regular type that comes in sets. But just in case, can it? Your Burtonmobile, by the way, is yet another engineering marvel! I love how you build these Batmobiles! Though I may be late to contribute on how incredible it is, let me just say that it's also a work of art!
  3. I agree. While the new age emotion (Alpha team) and design (Star Wars) heads are fantastic and allow for a greater degree of customization, I think that losing the original smiley head would be a great loss for LEGO. I hate to sound completely nostalgic, but that silly smile with no eyebrows and nose on a yellow peg is instantly recognizable as LEGO. Just like how the three strategically placed black circles is Mickey Mouse's head. You just simply can't do without it! I disagree with the fact that the LEGO faces up until Alpha team were boring. Alot of them had these really nice little details that made them all unique. Just look at the Fright Knights! Good ol' Bat Knight wasn't a smiler. Neither was the witch's diabolical laugh face! Also, differences in terms of eyebrows and mouth shape give it life, such as the Star Wars Episode 1 figures. Sure, they didn't have mouths that were half the size of their face, but it was a nice touch. While I love all minifig faces to bits, you have to remember that sometimes, it's the small details that count. Such as young Obi-Wan Kenobi's face. Small change in eyebrow and mouth shape, but it looked fantastic! To this day, it's still one of my favorite heads LEGO has ever produced.
  4. I think it's more this photo here that scarred my mind permanently. Unique, not so much. The "mask" looks like the Insectoid mask. See the resemblance? Anyhoo, the legs look really rushed. The Toa foot piece looks too small and the Inika shoulder pad on his thighs looks out of place. The hunch-back look is nice, but it just doesn't fit Matoro's personality. Would work great for Nuparu, but guess they want the ice Toa to be the short and stumpy ones now. Also, the CLAWS. Couldn't they have made it a tad larger? Just look at Neo-Reidak. Now THOSE are claws.
  5. Well, typically, people use some sort of image making program, mostly Photoshop. In my case, I use Macromedia Fireworks and Microsoft Pictureit! for all sorts of decals. If you don't have access to any of these, I've heard GIMP is a good free alternative. Though less advanced, it can do the job! Oh, and thanks for the link StarWars! I've been searching for that water slide tutorial for eons now. Thank you so much!
  6. Are you inserting from Brickshelf? If so, Yoda's got a fantastic tutorial here: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=5448 If you're not, almost everything is the same, but instead of Brickshelf, it's whatever site you desire it to be.
  7. I hear ya, and that's I'm doing! After I heard the Toa of 2006 were actually just a bunch of matoran transformed, I decided to create my own universe and go with that instead. LEGO is about imagination, and storylines are no exception. For years, I've also made up my own storylines, but I never expected I had to do so for Bionicle. Guess times change! Someone say FAITH? Anyways, every time I give them faith, SOMETHING goes horribly wrong. Here, let's look at this: I give the storyline faith. They plunge the ENTIRE saga UNDERWATER. I give their minifig sets faith. They give us Spybotics, only without the -botics. I give their weapons faith. We get CHAINGUNS. I give their Toa design team faith. And Matoro turned into the Hunchback of Notre Dame with FEMALE THIGHS. Everytime I give them faith, it just seems to go wrong faster and faster. I didn't used to be superstitious, but after actually giving them faith in the designs for 2007, well, let's just say I've become a fan of psychics and ESP. As for the above post, I highly recommend reading VK's post. If not, well, that's your loss.
  8. Hmm, odd. I haven't ran into problems in terms of plastic quality. Then again, I haven't bought many LEGO sets this past year. :-P The only gripe I have is with the rampant use of stickers everywhere. Ungh, I really wish that they would just print it on the brick for the harder to apply stickies. "Fad catagory"? Hmm... Well, I do know there's going to be a massive influx of transforming figures out there from not only the Transformers movie, but also from Mattel (Batman, Hotwheels). But isn't the Playstation 3 out already? LEGO currently seems fine to me at the moment...
  9. Glad you enjoyed my review, Paul! Awesome reviews you've got here! The poses you picked truly reflects the posability it has! Wow! That Golden Guardian looks far more impressive than I had imagined! I'm glad they used the longer KK connector piece for the upper legs. The small one would seriously hamper posability and it seems LEGO picked that up! I really hope this is a sign of things to come, because this set is simply amazing. I expected all mechs this year to be like this! :-D
  10. But wouldn't that just cook him and everything in the general visinity as well? On the other hand, if the Toa Mahiri could control the elements like the original six, then it's plausible that Jala could just command the lava deep in the ground as a weapon. That would be a stretch though, considering no Toa has used this ability since the Bohrok saga ended. Anyways, I'm sure that's why these these monst... I mean Toa have massive, hulking gattling guns. It just compensates for the lack of powers they can use, though I'm sure every Toa could fare somewhat well underwater with their powers.
  11. I was just kidding around. :-P The only gripes I actually have against Megabloks is that they stole the #1 title of top construction toy maker in the UK, won a lawsuit from LEGO in Canada and (the worst offense they commited) made Jessica Alba into a midget. No offense to those who are less endowed in terms of height, but that Invisible Woman minifig they made for the fantastic 4 series creeps me out to this day! I mean, props for likeness and all, but UNGH. It just looked so wrong! May the mighty brick forbid Megabloks from winning "The Island" license and do Scarlet Johhansen as a minifig! :'-(
  12. :-D Gotta love Family Guy! Man, this reminds me of that time my dad read an article about Megabloks winning a lawsuit months ago. It said that LEGO was a competitor to Megablok's industry! My dad pretty well much flipped out, talking about how ignorant the Canadian news media was, clearly making a factual error. It's actually a common sentiment with practically everyone I know who goes to school with me. I'll spare you the details though, considering all of us knows the difference! On second thought, some of those model team sets are really amazing. Their theme sets lack severely, however.
  13. Agreed entirely. The story is the massive glaring problem this year, from the way I see it. They had a good thing (kinda iffy to me at first, but I warmed up) going and they dragged it through the dark side of the moon. I also agree with Darth Vader about articulation. So what if a model has a gazillion points of articulation? To me, it's ALWAYS about useful articulation and honestly, articulation will NOT save a storyline. For all those fans of articulation, I suggest the Marvel Legends line. It's got more articulation and grit than Bionicle will *ever* have. And why not try this: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/356/200...chmovie2tu2.jpg 67 points of articulation, not bad, huh? And it's got an awesome story too! Afterall, Spider-Man has got a stellar run of stories, ranging from the movies to the new comic books. (No sarcasm here, by the way) As for "don't bang it", well, these are message boards. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how weak or strong. Regardless of whether it's baseless critisism or a critical analysis, anything goes as long as it's within the confines of the rules and regulations. To be quite frank, I'm quite sick and tired of how some fawn over some of the Mahiri like starving, improvished children (refering to the official LEGO boards). But I don't attack them based on their irrational love. I present my view from my perspective, from the way I see it. I'm sorry if I sometimes come over as blunt, but I always try to show reason behind my choices. Besides, there's always the real Bionicle fanboard of a plus 50,000 population just left of here. They always welcome praise! Well, I think. They usually love all the sets and storylines. (Nothing wrong with that, by the way. Everyone has different tastes)
  14. They're about to lose more, Helden! Not too sure if you guys have seen these, but here are the prelims of the Mahiri: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=227288 Matoro is feelin' like a WOO-MAAHN! ;-)
  15. ... Dang it Greg! I swear, I'd love for the Nuva to transend to the heavens just to prove ol' sourpuss Dume wrong, come back and have Tahu knock the living daylights out of Dume for doubting their origin. Y'know, I actually like Makuta!Dume far better than Dume himself. Not too sure about why Bionicle still has sticky value, gylman, but I'm sure it has to do with all those crazy projectiles. Afterall, regardless of how much we despise the support groups and the storywriters (Greg) for messing it up, support groups are almost never wrong, sadly enough. :'-(
  16. BLAST! Grrr, this news does not bode well. But I guess it was expected, seeing as how even though the show now has a massive following, not too many of the fans could dish out enough money to buy something like the Fire Nation ship. A line that was cursed to fail. :-( They really should have just had smaller sets, kinda like the medium sized Orient Expedition sets rather than those massive ones we ended up with. I'm sure Avatar would have done absolutely stellar had they done this. Seems like the LEGO Avatar fans will have to go underground and build their own minifigs and sets! One word. Bionicle. Even though they do use alot of really simplified pieces, it really builds the foundation for technic. Besides, building was never an issue in terms of Mindstorms. It was the programming! Since the NXT is kinda like a merger of Mindstorms and Spybotics, there's almost nothing bad about it! Keep it up LEGO! Keep on rocking in the new industry!
  17. 66177 is most likely a combiner for the Bionicle sets, while the first two are creator buckets. I really wish the three in question were sets for Avatar, but that doesn't seem likely. It's probably exclusives of some nature. Anyhow, thanks for the info, legomilk!
  18. Love that song! As for me, The Guardian Suite (Score version) - Trevor Rabin
  19. I completely agree with Jinz. There's just so much to love about Bionicle other than the main leads, and that's what we really lost. I would be ESTATIC to see some civilian sets. And for the set up, have the six original Toa vanish into thin air like they did at the end of the first chapter. Except this time, have them transend into the "heavens", or where ever the Great Beings live. Y'know, to get rid of the original Toa, so they can actually write a CLEAR story. (Mind you, I have no clue as to how the origin of the Toa have been retconned by now, so my idea is nearly completely invalid) Sky? Oh, so they're copying Skyland now. Mind you, this could turn out well, but it's going to turn out really badly. I can just see it now. Everyone has giant hang-gliders and air-to-air missles. World War one dogfights, here we come! On the bright side, at least we'll get some better offerings other than this year's Davy Jones Toa and Spybot submarines. There's also a decent amount of Matoran which can be turned into Toa, so I think this is exactly how it's going to go down. Ungh. I think I see a really bad pattern here. This year was water, next is air. So, at some point in the future, we will see a ice, fire, stone and earth sagas. By the end of this, Bionicle will have run itself into the grave and LEGO would have come up with another brilliant idea. Sigh.
  20. I don't know how you guys can find the determination or time to sort by piece! I have a relatively small collection and even I know THAT'S a massive task! For me, I have no particular way of sorting. I have my sets (which I don't take apart), a grab bag of older parts, a grab bag of newer parts from recent purchases and yet another grab bag for all minifigures. I have to admit, while it may be troublesome to find a specific part, bricklink is awesome for helping me find that one part that's attached to other sets!
  21. Aww, man! My projects seems so much more inferior than all the amazing stuff you guys and girls have planned. Me? I'm working on a replica of this mech from the anime "Code Geass": http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/1887/09767rr03fe3xj5.jpg But only in white instead of red. It's called "Lancelot" and the one that you see in the above mentioned scan is a prototype of the normal Lancelot. It's not actually the robot for the main character of the series, but rather the "antagonist", though it's complicated. See, there aren't really bad guys of good guys. Both sides have heroes and both sides have some really nasty folks. Anyhoo, Lancelot is my favorite mech from the series, and seeing as how there's going to be a massive throwdown of epic proportions coming up soon, it's pretty obvious the Lancelot is going to be destroyed once the main lead gets his Mecha (named Gwain, looks kinda like Anubis). So, I decided to make a model of what I think an upgraded Lancelot would look like! As for the build, I'm pioneering in SNOT tactics, building a new frame that is hopefully not only completely original, but also the most stable and articulated build EVER. I've done extensive drop and flick tests for it and it's holding together! Not to mention that I'm trying to get this entire thing to below 3 inches in height. Thus far, I've completed the frame and overall asthetics. All I have to do now it to make the weapons and the flight system and I'm done! The wings are going to be difficult though, considering how it's difficult to have any sort of stable wing system work. I've also broken a half of every known rule of LEGO building, and it looks like I'll be breaking another half by the time I finish. Wish me luck!

I like Ferraris too, but I dunno... You have to admit this is a pretty amazing looking car!

Ferraris, new age Civics and vintage Mustangs, oh my! I never knew there were so many people here with such cars! Then again, considering how expensive LEGO is as a hobby, I shouldn't be surprised! ;-) Anyhoo, I'm up in the great white north, so we can't have these nice things. See, when winter rolls around, it destroys all the good looking cars. It's not the snow though! It's the salt! Let's just say our traffic commission is a tad... Erm... Overzealous. Every time it's reported to snow 1 cm, they fill the roads up with as much salt possible. 'Tis a bad time to have a shiny car! Because we're a small family (only child), we have one of these puppies: http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5107/s6...30010508to6.jpg It's exactly the same as the one in the photo, only with less glamorous photoshoping.
  24. I have to admit, this is by far my favorite of all your MOCs! You've got a truly original design going on here, proving once again that you have a solid grasp of SNOT-building tactics. The Zaku II is my favorite of the lot. From the wonderfully assembled shoulder to the weapon, that thing is flawless. Heck, you even have the head likeness down! Bravo! The other two are also splendid. While the colour is a tad off for the Rick Dom (Last recalled it was purple and blac, but understandable, given how LEGO doesn't really make many purple bricks), the legs are a piece of art. Say, what kind of weapon is that little dude carrying? Is there a chance you could take a photo of it? You've definately piqued my curiosity!
  25. Oh well! I always was outside on all inside jokes! It's a nice photo anyways! :-) Yowza! I never knew there were so many fleshie figs made! You've *got* to make a Killer Croc Imperial Officer, Yoda! Y'know, to put the "clamp" on the Rebelion? ;-) Anyhow, fine work you've done so far! I never really contemplated whether other minifig heads would work for the Rebel Pilot or other Star Wars bodies. Guess I was wrong! Hmm, now where did I put my Hikaru fig... It's time for a transplant!
