Are you a MOD? If so your name doesn't display it and i would be more circumspect about the chastisement And if you look closely its very related as 4 or 5 posts directly above my post an individual posted pictures of a lego predator in direct attribution to the designers skill...hence my comment. My next 4 posts were explicitly about the haunted house set, so its not like i "clutter" the thread....fact 40 posts later mentioning it is directly cluttering this thread with unnecessary comments. Back to the issue at hand, I really think Lego has really done an excellent job not only on this House but the Monsters theme as a whole...

I think that this response here is an overwhelming support for the set... regardless of whether or not he got any inspiration from a previous build or completely came up with it on his own. This is a magnificent set to add to part of my collection and will generally be a talking point of unique features and looks (plus sand green!!!!) We overestimate how much impact we actually have on the buying public at large, really this forum is continued and supported primarily from AFOL's and even then we (EB members) are a minority of a minority of the buying public. I feel bad that the designer feels threatened and in turn writes a few very angry comments (he's entitled) The model is great and i don't care if it was stolen or not, I want to build it and since i cannot obtain those pieces in enough bulk to copy an existing idea, i'll settle for Lego's idea that provides me with the book and the pieces!

I was hoping those here that MOC both would be able to comment on whether or not it was any harder then MOC a building or castle.

I'm in favor of the set, and WILL buy it. I'm not the one with the controversy i just said lets take a better look at them side by side.

Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread
natesroom replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Dude if i could get 300 leaves for a darth maul promo fig i'd buy as many as i could find on ebay and then trade for them... The going price on the 6x5 is .30c per.. your trade is about .10c... Not that it wouldnt be a good trade for you though! I love the tree leaves and if they ever produced them for the PAB wall at my store i would clean them out. In fact i'd probably just buy all their boxes. -
Selling sets minus minifigs
natesroom replied to AwesomeTaylor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Yeah the hulk is getting 20+ and the set is 49.99 If you sold the other 3 for 10-15 youd be buying the bricks for 7-12 dollars (or 5-8 pounds) -

Well here is your answer to that doldrums of an idea Haunted House 02 by Legohaulic, on Flickr

This was a most sensible post... I will be buying this set... I DONT care that perhaps someone else with a much better building mind may have done this already i just see it as an opportunity to build and own an official one of my own.

Well if you do that start a topic in the Minifig Customization Forum and post your photos and things there... thats were you get a lot of critiques and help (if you need it)
-
Hmm well you shoulda picked two houses more similar for your example I don't care one way or the other...im gonna buy this set regardless... however for the sake of discussion why don't we just compare them side by side? Pictures are worth 1000 bricks

Let me know if your ever coming to orlando, FL!!

I would think the same thing. If i had a high res photo of the older one you could distinguish details more clearly.

Selling sets minus minifigs
natesroom replied to AwesomeTaylor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
yeah i would rephrase and say Generally you might get maximum 50% the worth. I would not buy the MF castle without the minifigs, however i might buy the haunted house without the MF and that set you could probably get 60%-75% for the set because of the sheer number of parts (maybe) Generally the larger the set the more its about the pieces and not the figs... take a Death Star it comes with 24 figs and droids...take those out and you may get 75-150 for the set.. But the Modular Town Hall you might be able to sell the set for 100-150 without the 8 figs -
Very cool! Though i don't think you need them to display your 1.2 minifigs

Selling sets minus minifigs
natesroom replied to AwesomeTaylor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Yeah i would say generally (again generally) you might only get 50% of the initial cost selling a set without minifigs. If you bricklinked all the parts then you might be allright. I would be interested in full sets minus minifigs, as i have most of the figs already (that i would need) and i would probably add the parts to my collection and not display the set. Again if the price is right -
I was going to get them from another EB member, but he cant get it. So i will be down for a complete set! let me know...
-
But i highly doubt that those are available to the general buying public. I guess if your friend who owns a toy store would be kind enough to tell you where he got them from maybe they could make some additional sales.

Well isnt three masts in the middle a ship of the line distinguising feature? I guess frigates and sloops of war may have three masts also but if you go with two your more like a brig, barque or a schooner

[rant] LEGO sets missing minifigs
natesroom replied to Lego Otaku's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Happened to me the other day in the orc forge... (I know this was stolen parts, but mine was from the factory) ) Was missing one wooden tile 1x4 with the printed wood and a 1x3 brown brick... very weird and i've never had that happen to me before. Also i thought i was missing the rohan spear in the Uruk-Hai set and filed a complaint but about 10 minutes later i found it lodged between the houses feet snug against the body... talk about weird places it blended right in. I did call lego and cancel the missing part.
