  1. Thanks Brick Miner! Your portfolio will be very helpful
  2. Hi Brick Miner and Kim Thomsen, I am a recent graduate from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Advertising Design and Illustration and I am really interested in this position. I'm aware of moving and I am considering it. Can you please give me more information on what is needed to apply? I see that vector work is needed and a portfolio needs to be sent but how does the company want it? I have an online portfolio that I can show but if the company wants something more personal what should I show? And how? Through mail? Email? Plus do you want anything LEGO related to show? I have sketches and quick designs but do they want anything more finalized? All of this I can present or get ready to but I just need some help first. Thank you guys for posting this information, this is really exciting! -Austin Carlson
  3. I'm starting to think that I only post when something Avatar related is happening here ! I would love to see this come back especially after watching the new two Korra episodes. I believe cuusoo already has someone trying to get support (if it doesn't than I have no idea what I joined then). I would rant more on this, and maybe later I will, but for now I think Oky can do a good job of it
  4. It's been over three years and I'm now getting closer to graduating from Kutztown University with a major in illustration and advertising. I don't want to give the wrong impression here, I'm not asking for help in getting a job with LEGO. No, but I need help with finding the right contact. Let me explain. I'm currently taking an illustration course which is called self-promotion, which is all about getting your name out into the field. One of the requirements for this class is to form a list of potential clients and I currently want LEGO to be one of them. The problem is is that I have no clue on where to find the right people I need to talk to. I'm looking for an art director or someone that handles illustration in one form or another. So why did I choose Eurobricks to help me with this? The site is filled to the brink with great people and I kind of figured this might be the right place to start for such an oddball request. I'm not expecting an art director to be searching here but maybe someone here could help point me in the right direction on where to search. If this topic is in the wrong location or needs to be closed for any reason that's perfectly fine. Thank you guys for any help
  5. Actually they have done this in the past! The first time I've seen this kind of detailing would be for the Daily Bugle print for the Spider-Man 2 subway chase set. J. Jonah had a similar tile that had an article on the rampaging mad scientist Doc Ock. A Closer Look
  6. Love hearing all these ideas. When I used to work in the office I used to sketch down ideas for some Avatar sets and minifigures in my free time. It was fun thinking of possibilities for this license. It's sad that LEGO went with Spongebob, which after seeing its run I can say that I feel that it was pretty bad. So many remake sets for such a short run. Spongebob is great and all but Avatar had a world, and a big one at that! So many buildings could be made or Fire Nation vehicles. I came up with some ideas for the tank but never got to try it yet. I honestly believe that the Avatar line was pushed out because LEGO believed in Spongebob's popularity but the Spongebob universe just doesn't create sets! Avatar could create a longer running product do to the size of the fantasy world, much like Star Wars did. And also Avatar hit the same age audience that LEGO normally targets, young boys. I believed it was just poor marketing; I think Avatar didn't even have a commercial like the Spongebob sets did. LEGO missed an opportunity here. Ranting aside , here's some of my old sketches that I was talking about earlier. You can see Zuko sporting the Hockey armor which I though looked closer to the actual design in the show. I also drew Iroh with the “pot-belly” knight armor to give him a fatter look (I’m surprised to see someone else thought of this too).I actually worked on the Toph design, the face and body are completed but just recently I wanted to... "refreshen" the look for the Avatar line by adding some shadows in the clothing like how LEGO does now. However, I would keep the style of the faces. I believe LEGO hit the right balance of "anime eye" to face with this short lived line. Okay, that's it for me for now .
  7. I finally got to see it and I have to say it was easily the worst film I've seen this year. I don't like saying it since I had some hope for this but I really was bored watching it. The pace was incredible slow, the characters were written flat, the action scenes, at least with the bending, were odd. The gif with the earthbenders, well, that's exactly what I saw in the movie with nothing bending wise coming after it. It was just a bunch of benders "dancing" and then one rock is thrown. Most of the bending is like this, a lot of arm and leg movement and then a simple "splat" of element thrown in at the end. Nothing flowed liked the bending in the cartoon; it was really just tacked on in the movie. But don’t get me wrong, the martial arts were very good but just not the bending. The acting was okay, but I feel it was more the writing that brought down a lot of the characters. And some of the scenery were very disappointing, I'm looking at you spirit world. If you're an Avatar fan, which I'm betting you are since you're in this topic, just wait and rent it to judge it yourself.
  8. Well, besides the main cast, it appears that everyone else is diverse... that's in the background... But really, it seems that there are a lot of diverse nationalities in the film even though they aren't among the main cast. Does that make it right? Of course not, but the movie isn't that white wash. I'm also very excited for the film, which is why I'm trying to defend it a little. I think the costumes and sets are absolutely beautiful. I'm also curious to see how certain things are going to be done. I'm a little afraid too, not confident in that Noah can act and I'm worried on how long this film is going to be but I'm mostly happy with what I'm seeing. It's just been lately that there has been a lot of negative comments about the film, which you have the right to have, but I just want to remind people that there is another group of us happy to see this (and hopefully enjoy it too ).

    MOC: Appa

Can't believe I missed this when you first posted it. I'm always looking for more Avatar MOCs but they're so scarce to find. Great job on this! I'm always glad to see Appa MOCs but I have to say that yours has the best minifig scale that I've seen yet. I would like to rejoin in the Avatar MOC making but I have to wait for the summer till I return home. So till then, keep building them Oky. Also, now I want to see some armor on that Appa
  10. Full trailer
  11. This would definetly be a better end than the Stars. I'm behind this .
  12. BrickMiner, it's looking good! Since I'm still earning my degree, I feel I can't give a too creditable response to your portfolio but I still want to point certain things out. Your opening is strong with your illustrations, which of course is necessary to grab attention, and also your last submissions of your Ghost Town theme looks polished with good camera work and lighting. However, your middle with the Wild West theme feels a little older. The lighting and picture quality doesn’t seem nearly as strong as your last submissions so if you are able to retake those pictures, I feel you should. The sets look great but I think you can bump up the picture quality a little. The next part I want to point out is a little weird for me to talk about since it could fall under different taste in styles. The decals on the minifigures look good but I personal think certain line work could be thicker and change in line width. Certain details that are thin and too straight become damper downed because of that. An example of this would be your orange cowboy, the one that is also illustrated (which looks amazing). I think to better show cloth and the roughness of the West would be to have some changes in width in the line. The Cowboy's shirt has a straight line going down his button shirt but I think it would feel more Western if it was a little wavy and had change in line width. I think the best example of what I'm talking about is the decal of Indian Jones' button shirt. Here's a picture: The different thickness in line adds depth to the decal in a simple manner. I notice most adventure like themes in LEGO sets have this kind of style to them. Also, I feel that some of your decal line work is too thin for certain things. If you make them just a little thicker I feel they might pop out a little more. Your portfolio is very clean and very well designed in presenting your stuff. It feels unified and solid. You show the decals by themselves and on the bricks/minifigures. Great work on that! I have really nothing else to say about your set up; it looks great! And you said you have other theme work you were going to add, right? I back you up on that decision. The more diverse you can present yourself in your work, the better. It will show that you can handle any theme thrown at you. Your freehand looks great and what you are covering is defiantly building up to be something awesome. Just go a little further and I think you are there . And, later down the road, can I ask you for some tips since you're working in the field that I want to break into ?
  13. Crap, not again... Every time they offer this job I'm not ready yet. I'm still earning my degree in Graphic Design; infact, the biggest reason I'm going into Graphic Design is to obtain this job. I just hope there is another job opening in 2012-2013 . But I am glad that you guys post this on Eurobricks. It makes it easy to see the job opening.
  14. You mean like how Soundwave's Ratbat controlled the Decepticon army on earth in one of the comic book story arcs? And almost won ! It's amazing what a robot-bat that can transform into a cassette tape can really do . And thanks for finding the list, Optimus-Convoy
  15. I don't mind a healthy debate or a lengthy rebuttal but as you mentioned, certain things become repetitive. I think we covered a lot about the movie and I simply just want to move on to something else. Well, for a little bit at least . We can come back to it but I just believe the debate needs a little rest. Man, oh Man, do I hope to see some Animiated Constructicons too! There has been a list posted but I can't remember everybody. I'm pretty sure Animated Arcee is coming out. I think I saw her too... I really don't remember but Seibertron.com should have the list.
  16. Can I ask if we get off the Transformers 2 debate for a little bit? It seems it has been going on for a while now and the only thing that has come out of it to me is that some people like it, and others don't. You know, like most movie debates. It's been going on for about four pages now and I doubt most people are going to change their opinions about the films, so let’s just take a little break from this and talk about something else Transformers related . Or not . It's your guys' choice. When do you think another Transformers television series will start up again? The G1 show was what got me into Transformers in the first place so I feel there should always be a show running . I've been re-watching TFA at 6:00 in the morning before I leave for work and I've been starting to realize how much I liked this series. I liked the characters, especially Jazz, and enjoyed seeing Optimus progress through the series as becoming a better leader. There were some bad moments but I really haven't enjoyed a Transformers series since Beast Wars. So with the second movie done and TFA finished, do you think another series is in the works?
  17. You know you are a fan of LEGO when none of your bookshelves hold books
  18. *gasp* cough, cough! Whoa, kind of shocked about all the special molds for the Toy Story sets! I really don't think they're bad but boy was I surprised to see all those special minifigure pieces! I'm not a big fan on very specific molds, like the heads, since the use in other things is going to be minimal (or none) but the detail is very nice. Also, it looks like Zerg's chest/shoulder piece is separate from his head (since it looks like his head is turned a little) which makes me very happy. And, nothing new, the PoP figures look amazing .
  19. Oh yeah, I saw it but I can see that it could be argued that the Here's a link on what I was talking about: Devastator (ROTF) Once you're there, scroll down to the very bottom and read the trivia section and it talks about it. And remember, for those who haven't seen the movie yet, don't click the link since it has some spoilers. Moving away from that debate might be best for the topic. I didn't intend for it to get that way, I'm sorry about that. So moving on, I also felt the climactic battle should have been longer. I felt as if it went by too fast. I can't say it didn't look awesome but it was just too short for my taste. And since Bay, so far, won't be directing the next one, I wonder who they're going to find to replace him. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Brett Ratner.
  20. Trust me when I say that I had an open attitude when I went to see the film. Of course I knew the film wasn't going to be Oscar or anything profound, I did see the first one afterall, and I expected the same with this. But I really don't like this as a sequel! Here's my long ranting reasoning: I wouldn’t be surprised if any one of you might think of me as one of those fans that absolutely dislikes changing any of the Transformers lore or look, I mean after reading this myself I can’t blame you for seeing me like that but please know I’m not. I really enjoyed the first film but I just couldn’t come to liking this.
  21. I don't know about you guys but I found the movie horrible. I enjoyed the first one but I couldn't stand this one. Of course the special effects were amazing but the story felt like it was all over the place and I could not stand Mudflap and Skidz, they make Jar Jar look like a decent character! I would rant some more about the movie but I can't seem to get the spoiler tags to work. If anyone can help could they? Thanks. I'm not going to say don't go see the movie but if you had problems with the first film then don't expect that they fixed anything in this one.
  22. Better than I thought Teaser for the New Movie
  23. I'm not too impressed abou Zuko (or the backdrop) but Aang actually surprised me! I was worried the actor was going to look too old to be Aang, which isn't the case for me, and the design is interesting and new. The arrow on his forehead looks to be a new design but I wish I could see it better. The whole look feels oriental and old. I'm actually liking this . I just hope the acting will be good...
  24. Yah, this was my first time ever photographing anything with this quality and I definitely found out that black was very hard to photograph. But I'm very limited in color and pieces. I build by slapping pieces together with no idea with what I'm going to build. Black was just the most abundant color I had to use. Do you know if there's a special way on photographing black? A reflector seemed to help me a little. Nope, just my own thing. The whole premise of the Cloud Wakers theme is that the world is only the skies and those skies are split into three fractions: the law enforcing Armada, the rough and hardy pirates, and the skies-the-limit adventures called the Cloud Wakers. Thanks for all your comments guys .
  25. Take to the skies! What this is suppose to be is a small sky boat that flies through the clouds as if it were the open sea. That's really about it .
