This would be totally stupid. We need Johnny Thunder back, not the "lame action movie star du jour" license. I sure hope this is false. It is incredibly stupid that Lego had not thought of doing any Indian Jones movies in the past, and no lame "Adventurer" character could compare to the one and only Harrison Ford!

Well, after long and due consideration, I have in fact decided to buy this set, as it will represent a perfect way of display my ever expanding Lego keychain collection. I keep building displays, and I keep running out of room. Hopefully this will not be perceived as an insult to the grand dame.

I'm in awe. This is why AFOLs will gravitate to this new concept in building. Joe Meno should put your MOC in one of his magazines. My favourite touch: the columns on the balconies... but so many little architectural details. Seriously, how long did that take?

Fort Legoredo on sale (auction) at Brinklink
gylman replied to gylman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I think the Brinklink professionals would not auction this. However, this looks like a newbie or low volume seller, and mayhaps this person just wants to clear that stuff out, rather than make a living or partial living at selling Lego. I have occasionally gotten good deals on Bricklink auctions. -
I cannot speak for myself, as I don't watch TV. The audience here is 8 and a 10 year old girls Naruto and Naruto Shipuuden rule this house. Young boy with a beast trapped inside his body has to grow up and learn to harness the power of that beast in order to fulfil his ambition of becoming the main protector (Hokage) of his ninja village. Strong ensemble cast with the other ninjas. Avatar was the most favoured show last year, but since it has gone into oblivion waiting for the third season, interest has faded (stupid Nick people....). I have to say, having been forced to watch that show (Naruto) many times, it's not bad. Lousy animation, lots of cheesy humour, but it has strong characters and lots of "heart" without being overly emotional. I can see why it has had such a long stay at the top of the kids' Anime world.

Some time ago there was a discussion that these are getting hard to find. For those interested, this one is boxed, with instructions, at a price that I woudl consider reasonable even for the buyout cost. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Lassen&itemID=8283754 I don't know the seller, don't endorse them in any way, and don't take any responsibility for this. If you use buyout price, I suggest you ask for photos. Just thought some people here might have an interest that's all. The shipping costs suggest that only Europeans would realistically be able to buy this item. Cheers. G

At the risk of this being another one of those "Oh wow!" posts... Oh Wow! You have captured the Lego "look" perfectly.

Hi Han, Welcome to EB. My main interest with Lego was primarily Technic for many years, although in recent times I have faded because of the change in elements and techniques has turned me off (liftarms, angle connectors, etc), and in general I find the models these days much less interesting than those of 10-20 years ago - they don't look as nice, and don't do as much. Airtech Claw Rig has long been my favourite set (as some on this site may know) because of all the functionality and techniques. Models these days seem to have one trick per model, and that's about it. I remember when 8421 came out how excited I was - I drove all over town looking for the first copy available. It was an OK model, but not really what I had hoped for from the biggest Technic set of all time. Very repetitive build, and the alternate was not worth the trouble. The pneumatics were almost not worth the trouble of using.... I had a look at some of the stuff for your XL improvement, and it looks really good. The idea of the extendable counterweight is clever - I'll definitely try that out next time I rebuild that model. The bulldozer coming up this year looks exciting... really looking forward to that. But, I'd really love to have non-vehicle Technic model set, along the lines of 8094, and hopefully pneumatics will be a key part of it. Enjoy your time here on EB. Most of the excitment these days seems to be in system Lego, but maybe Technic can have a revival. I think there is a Technic forum somewhere on the web, but I can't seem to find my old link to it....

I love the base. Very very slick and attractive. It's the best part of the set. The top third of the tower just isn't right.... we need to find a way to make it less rectangular, introduce a hint of a gentle curve.
-
Gosh, I'd love to have some of these as posters to put up in my office. Brilliant!
-
I think they were referring to the more modern liftarms etc. The classic Technic brick is always welcome.

A bit too blocky, but I think a very impressive structure when built. It will be up to us to colourize it with a truck and car or three at the base, some tourists in the tower, maybe add a small shop somewhere. I know it won't be in scale, but it will look very nice. I fear the price though. Will wait to see what it will be in Canada - 400-500$ - which might make it not worthwhile considering I can do more with the Cafe Corner type of set. Thanks for the info Yoda. I'm still amazed that the images of this were not leaked, and that hte first picture ever seen came from a set that you were able to buy retail. Lego has NEVER been able to keep things so secret before.

gylman replied to agrotic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Jeepers, I sure hope it isn't a letdown by the time we actually see it. It's very unusual to have a set for which have not seen a sneak peek somewhere, which is available for sale. Especially one so anticipated as this one. Wonder how it was possible to keep it so secret..? -
Always have found their phone service good. Internet services not as good (contact through web site), but OK. The main flaw in Lego customer service is the S@H shipping. About 50% of the time it is fine. The rest of the there are problems ranging from minor to major, the most common of which is damaged internals. They use very flimsy boxes, and I routinely get dinged sets. Most recent example was last week- it took way longer htan usual to arrive - I assume it was lost and then found. When it finally got to me at the 3 1/2 week mark, the box was badly dented, and at the bottom of it sat my Ferrari set, the side of it busted open, although no bricks poured out. Sigh.

EXCUSE ME? Adventurers not coming back? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Seriously, I think they will come back. It woudl not even surprise me if they Egypt series would be re-released. More likely though, they will come back with a new story. And I stick with my predict that it will an Old West theme. A Greece or Rome them with the Adventurers woudl also be possible. BUT THEY ARE DEFINITELY COMING BACK ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!

Exclusive EB Review: 7093 - Skeleton Tower
gylman replied to Starwars4J's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I have no use for this set at all - the ONLY useful parts are the knight and princess figs. They'll fetch a pretty penny on Bricklink until the set goes on sale for half price at S@H EDIT: Oh, and Starwars, thanks for the effort of the review. Great pics and useful info. A review that tells me I don't want to buy something is often more valuable than one that tells me a set is great. -
Excellent. A must buy. In multiples.

I voted no. I had written a long explanation, and then lost the post in the middle, and did not have time to re-type). Please don't take offence, I appreciate you put some thought into these, but here's why I didn't like them. To summarize my initial post: 1) In my opinion Lego creatures are lousy (Yeti, Tigurah, all those horrible Potter animals, the Viking stuff). 2) In my opinion these will not sell. Kids in the Lego age target group know and care little about Greece. It sounds like homework to them. I know, I have two kids exactly that age. 3) How many different armies do we need? Assuming this is targeted purely at AFOLs, I just don't see the appeal of all those creature themed sets to adults. I think Lego is best suited for structures, and is best when it's minifig centred. A greek/roman theme focusing on buildings rather than creatures would far more interest for me. That being said, the Troy and Trojan horse thing do have some appeal to me. Also, incorporating this into the Adventurers (say they travel through time or something) might make it more viable. Finally, this theme coudl make for some cool keychains, so that's another redeeming features.

They look to be in great condition, but the sellers say are "complete", which implies that they are not MISB. No way they are worth even half of that if they are not MISB.
-
I too have noticed that WW is selling very well for MISB, or even sets with boxes. It's just supply and demand I guess. It didn't go on for very long from what I can tell, although there were a couple of re-releases of the big sets (Rapid River Village and Legoredo), and nothing like it has been released since. This is why I have always thought that an Adventurers "old west" theme would be good. They can recycle much of the special parts etc from the WW era so there is not much extra cost to starting up a new theme. Plus, there is a demand for Old West stuff. Potter is reselling like crap probably because 75% of it was crap - all those large tower pieces, freakish animal pieces, reddish brown (instead of real brown), bley etc. It was more like a Belville set than like system Lego, but without the interesting pieces that Belville sets often have. Potter sets were not even good for parts mostly. Diagon Alley, though, is in VERY high demand, usually going for 3x retail for MISB, which is quite impressive for a set from only 3-4 years ago. I guess people want all those bits.

81$ for an instruction book. 8891 And not even the older, rarer, one (8888) at Bricklink it is available for 4$, which is about what I paid for it on eBay a couple of years ago. Weird. Or stupid. Or I am missing something.

Great review Yoda - funny and informative (although a sad commentary on the state of the trains in France, I guess). Lots of useful generic building parts - I figure with 4 of these a resectable train station can be made. Those 1x5x5 trans clear bricks are amazing! I paid a buck each for them on bricklink a year ago. They are totally useful parts in anything you build (I was never able to really clean the print off the basketball ones). Lots of little goodies. I predict lots of bits of this set will end up in many different CC-Market street extensions. Nothing useless in this set. Depending on the price point, this coudl be an incredible set. So far I like it best of all the new 2007 sets that I have not bought yet (CC of course is #1)
