  1. I think Galen (Fugazi) holds the record with almost 5000 gold.
  2. Voiced by none other than Robert DeNiro, in my mind! Wonderful NPCs Sandy.
  3. I'll look forward to Guffy 2 then. Hopefully Guts can make it back in time for that as well, and if Docken sticks around... well I don't expect it to be the same party, but that was a great party back then. And now we're all minmaxed. Very cool transformation. Hopefully Tarn will be rolling in the dough now. Nice job Rumble and Sandy. Yeah, that's probably a good idea too. Like several other people said, it's also a matter of character knowledge vs. player knowledge. I hadn't thought about it that way before, but Hybros's memories can be different than mine.

  6. Hybros made his way from the Hall to the Marketplace with 3128 gold in his magic, weightless pouch. He was glad to get his mind off of the Pagoda at least for a while, and on the way back from the Ji Pei palace he had noticed that Elphaba was in town. Stopping at her cart, Hybros requested many items. After falling several times in recent memory, he needed to raise his defenses. He bought: 1x Amethyst 1x Garnet 1x Opal 1x Ruby 1x Topaz 1x Scroll of Sleep 1x Scroll of Blindness 1x Scroll of Confusion 1x Scroll of Frailty 1x Scroll of Weakness For a total of 950 gold. Next, he headed to Fabian's. He browsed the wares a little bit, picking out a pair of Sticky Gloves for 500 gold. He also requested for the Aquamarine and Diamond to be taken out from the Paper Parasol. Now an ordinary umbrella, Hybros took the gems and left the Paper Parasol in a corner of the market stall. Finally, much to the annoyance of the hard-worked Fabian, Hybros asked for one of each gem and every Scroll to be imbued into his Golden Armor. (1x Amethyst, Diamond, Ruby, Aquamarine, Topaz, Sapphire, Garnet, Emerald, and Opal; Scroll of Sleep, Scroll of Blindness, Scroll of Confusion, Scroll of Frailty, Scroll of Weakness imbued for 50x14=700 gold). Now immune to all elements and with an emptier coin pouch, Hybros left the Marketplace for the time being with 978 gold. He made a note to come back later for other items.
  7. A small wind spell makes the wings on the side of the box flap, and the lid clicks open, revealing a glimmering Sapphire. "Thank you, Cinna, eheh... I am going to visit the Marketplace myself. Lots of gold to spend, you see, hehehe." With that, Hybros departed the Hall.
  8. "I would, hehe, thank you." Hybros presented the box to Cinna, holding it out to her to open. "Yes, thank you, here is your Aurora Helmet back. It served me well, but I feel that I will find better defensive gear in the Marketplace, eheh." Hybros receives the Diamond. Hybros also pulls out his 240 extra gold from the quest, giving 40 to each Namyrra, Tesni, Cinna, and (somewhat hesitantly) Tarn.
  9. On another note, I just wanted to bring up something Zepher has said before about roleplaying. Writing down your character's interactions with other characters. We all have our preferences, but I have found it more realistic (and less work) to not write it down and play by memory. IMO it's more realistic, because just like in real life, people forget things, and other people. If Hybros has only had brief encounters with other characters, I (and he) are likely to forget them. A stronger relationship means that he's more likely to remember other characters the next time they meet. Just a thought.
  10. Is Pretzel an atheist?
  11. Who said Guts was a good dancer? Ive always imagined the Dancing Shoes tripping him up during battle, and giving him extra turns next round because he stumbles and bumps into enemies.
  12. "I see. Excuse me." Confused, Hybros addressed the man who seemed to think he was giving the mask to him. "Eh...?"
  13. Yep. Sorry to get your hopes up. Thank you.
  14. "I see... it feels as though I have been gone for a very long time. I am afraid I do not know this Rone, eheh..." But Wren... Hybros looked back into the main sitting area for Arthur, but he seemed to be preoccupied. Oh well, there was always the library. "These Fields, I saw the sign-ups on my way in here. An endless battle against enemies... it sounds like the quest I just returned on..." Hybros looked glumly over the balcony (or rather, through the bars of the railing since he wasn't tall enough to see over it) to notice a hooded figure inspecting the quest board below. He appeared to have no face, at least not one similar to any he had seen before. He inquired to Docken, "Do you know that one down there?" He gestured toward Jeaux with a nod.

  16. As Hybros divided the items, he took some from his own inventory and handed over items to their owners. "Eh... I also think we should divide this gold up evenly. I have 240, and Cinna has 630 I believe, hehe." "I see. Well, you will have to take that up with Cinna then. So, how have your travels fared so far Docken?" Hybros was thankful for an old familiar face. He shoved past several of the heroes gathering in the crowd over the loot, making his way to the balcony as he talked to Docken.
  17. Hybros felt sweat drip down the back of his neck, his nerves tingling. He didn't like crowds. "Eh... back off. All of you. I am simply here to divide this loot, you can pursue trades and sales later." He looked to Tarn, who said something about the the heroes worrying about loot and not other things. For once, Hybros agreed with him. "Docken, eh, so good to see you again. The shield is not for sale, though it does not look as though you need one..." he said, noting how his old questmate seemed to be more heavily armored than the last time they met. He turned back to Namyrra, Cinna, and Tesni. "Very well, here is the division." Namyrra, I would greatly appreciate it if you could open this Winged Box for me. I believe a wind spell will open it." OOC: I added a few items that I had previously forgotten - the Winged Box, Cannon Parts, and Aelous Bomb. I also removed the rest of the weak consumables because I haven't been able to track them down. Whoever has them, has them. I will post my actions saying which items I trade to who, as well as an update party stats list, as well.

  19. Interesting. I'm not sure how accurate that would be, especially with the first part (would summing up the damage for each roll and dividing by 6 really give the average damage? I feel like there's permutations and special rolls to account for), but you would probably have a better idea than I would.
  20. Alright, so Quest 50, here it goes. Let me just preface this by saying it's all in the name of constructive criticism, even if I sound harsh it's nothing personal or meant to be offensive (although I can't stop you from being offended anyway ). We (myself, Peppermint, Quarryman, Rumble Strike, and Darkdragon) ultimately decided to give up for several reasons. I speak mainly for myself, but we all had similar sentiments, and any other player of Quest 50 is welcome to say if they disagree with what I'm going to say in this post. - First and foremost, we were bored, to put it bluntly. Five months fighting enemies in a systematic process really became a chore after a while. Even though the enemies were creative and well-designed, and the dungeon-like pagoda offered some choices with searching for loot and puzzles, what it ultimately came down to was fighting off enemy after enemy. It was sometimes fun to strategize against them, but even that got to be a pain, for other reasons which I'll state later. Sandy, I think that this was the biggest issue with Quest 50. Quest 15 had a similar dungeon-crawler concept and I think I (and perhaps others) mentioned that while creative and fun, a setting like Heroica (where people can only participate when they're online, unlike a video game where it's done all at once) doesn't allow for very extensive dungeon-crawlers. - Building off of the last point, I felt that updates were too slow. I totally understand that you have a life outside of Heroica and EB Sandy, as we do, and I respect that. However, there were many periods in which there were no updates (sometimes three or four days at a time), and over the period of five months those delays really add up. I know you tried your best to update as much as possible, but if your planning on a very long quest like this one, make sure that you can update often. And even when there were regular updates, things moved slow because we could only do one thing at a time, usually. Overall, the long periods waiting really killed the fun. And I'll return to my point about dungeon-crawlers being unrealistic in this game for a moment - where in a video game it would take only a couple of minutes to fight a battle or search a room, it could take days or sometimes more than a week in this setting. - Probably the least important point I have (and the one you had least control over) is about how realistic it was to continue. We had a total of five Phoenix Essences left between us at the end of the quest, and there were still all five difficult enemies standing in a room where we had a chance to miss our turn every round. That allowed for no mistakes, and I believe that the Essences would have been wasted. Even if we had beat the enemies in the White Room, how long could we expect to go on with only a few Essences? We still had about 35 enemies to go, and obviously they would've been even harder as we progressed. We also were out of ether and restorative consumables. I don't know how many enemies you would want dropping tonics and essences, but I thought that there should've been some sort of rest mechanism in the game, a way to succeed without relying on how many Essences we had left. - One last point I have is about the story and the general set up. Again, it was boring because it just became battle after battle, with little story progression or opportunities to do anything but follow battle tactics. As Quarryman said in the R&D thread, it just took way too long to get to the point. Keep in mind that this is over the course of five plus months, so that's a very long time to wait for a quest to become something fun rather than just to complete it for the sake of reaching that goal (see the video that Flipz posted about extrinsic vs. intrinsic rewards). That said, if we compare this quest to the Fields of Glory, we can also see how the structure was faulty (IMO). The Fields is purely for XP and loot in my eyes, which leaves little room for roleplaying or any sort of story to take place. That's how I felt the pagoda was, except unlike the Fields we could not rest or leave at anytime (except, you know, by failing). We missed out on a lot of things going on elsewhere in Heroica with new quests, characters, and interactions. Where other players have been developing their characters and gaining experience and reputation on their quests, we were stuck in a roleplay-less continuous battle. I felt that it was unfair that we had to miss out on that, and unfortunate that we never even finished. Trust me, none of us liked the idea of giving up after so long, but it seemed like the best option to just call it quits. So, those were the negatives that I saw in this quest. They're a lot, but I needed to let you know about them and hope we can all learn from it. There were some good positive aspects to the quest as well, with the challenging and creative enemies (I had a really good time trying to figure out the best way possible to take each battle on), awesome puzzles, and really nice loot. I'm really glad that we at least gained that even though we failed the quest. And all the pictures and MOCs were lovely as always. So that's about it for now, I think. A good concept with an okay execution, it just doesn't work in the setting that we have. I'm sure that I missed a few things that I wanted to talk about, but maybe they'll come back to me as more people give their input.
  21. I would love to know how you arrived at those numbers.
  22. Hybros pauses for a moment, then responds, "Heh, fine then, suit yourself." He shook his head. "Your ability to survive favors reason, not this 'nobility' that you seem to follow." Now even more confused at this 'chaos' that Arthur was trying to explain, Hybros simply nodded his head. Perhaps it was some type of ether that the Sorcerer used, a magic beyond his limited understanding of the subject. "And what duty would that be?" Hybros hoped Arthur wasn't another justice-bound suicidal hero like Tarn.
  23. Hybros's eyes narrowed. "Do not be foolish Tarn. That shield your holding can help you stand longer in battle, you would be doing your... allies a favor by using it." Hybros regards the man with some caution, and looks at his extended hand. Was he asking for a handout? "I am Hybros, eh... just Hybros. Chaos you say...? I was unaware that there were experts on it." Hybros had heard the word before. Disorder, randomness. Surely it did not require an expert to be aware of its meaning.
  24. Looking up from the pile of loot for a moment to listen to the young human, Hybros thought. Wren... Hybros recalled his second quest with Heroica. He remembered being locked in a lightless cell for what seemed like eternity. He recalled the lies Wren whispered in his mind, the chaos she had caused. "So..." he said to the crimson-clad mage "She is dead. It has been a long time since I encountered her last, but she seemed like nothing but trouble, eheh...." He chuckled weakly. "It sounds as though she has been causing nothing but trouble since then. She is gone now, good... and who are you?" Hybros tried to fathom all that he had missed during his time in Xu. The city he had come to call home torn apart by one woman? It seemed impossible. He gauged the wizard dressed in Town Watch's clothing with narrowed slits. Perhaps he was only a common beggar who somehow sneaked into the hall, after all. Hybros kept a close eye on his belongings.
  25. Yes, I'll have to ask around about that. I believe there still are a few heroes Hybros knows already that have been on Wren quests, specifically WBD, who are in the hall. I don't plan on going on any quests right away, so maybe they'll see each other soon enough.
