The loose gears I found in sets 8263, 8265 and 8258 now about the Green Grocer slopes. I checked mine (you mean the black 2x2x2 ones right?). They are not cracked but one thing struck me. ALL of them have the same scratch on the side going from a stud about 3-4 mm down. It has to do with the mold. My slopes are not cracked though.

Below a picture to illustrate the 16t gear issues On the left the gear that was used up to and including 2008 and 2010 On the right, the 'bad', looser gear from 2009 1. the good gear has slightly smaller teeth 2. the good gear has a slightly smaller outer rim 3. the good gear has a shinier look, especially visible in these holes 4. the bad gear has an extra layer in the triangular shapes round the axle hole Maybe it was a bad batch, but these 2009 gears are aweful and slide of the axle easily

I have something to add to these discussion, especially Technic parts: - the 20t double bevel gears (especially the tan ones) ( http://media.peeron.com/ldraw/images/19/100/32269.png )are very loose on their axles: - grey (odd length) axle seem a little bit thinner than black (even length) axles - Many 32L axles are not straight - Lego started to use a new mold for the straight light bluish grey 16t gear ( http://media.peeron.com/ldraw/images/71/100/4019.png ) in the 2009 Technic sets. These gears were looser on the axles (especially the odd length ones) and the gears look flatter near the axle hole (no rounded corners). I have a set from 2010 and it seems to use the old tighter gears - the angle connecters #2 ( http://media.peeron.com/ldraw/images/4/100/32034.png ) seem to be from new molds, especially the red ones don't have the number 2 on both sides anymore and they almost fall off the axle (especially odd length grey axles).

I sure hope this is not the exclusive everyone is desperately hoping for.... looks like Uwe Brawa design. The cabin reminds me of 8258 -

Why friction ridges?
merman replied to Noodles140's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am still curious why the roof of the cabin of 8258 Crane Truck uses some frictionless pins... very strange... -
TECHNIC Sets from 2010
merman replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just bought and built 8047. It took about 40 minutes. Very cute little set. I made a lot of pictures and will write a review, but no time at the moment. Here is a picture of all the new parts: The back of the new gear: The partlist: -
where did you hear this? And how about 10197 Fire Station... but that one has only been available for 2 months...
-
Anyone knows if 10185 Green Grocer willbe discontinued in 2010? Café Corner stopped being produced after 2 years od production also.

I received mine yesterday and started building. I have finished the ground floor. I love this set so much already... Would be nice if TLG released a supplemental set with just the middle floor...

Who wants to buy a Café Corner for me in the US?
merman replied to merman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Thanks all so much for replying, especially considering the fact I don't know any of you... it is a rather unusal request I realize... I can be trusted, my name on Bricklink is hellomrzebra check it out for feedback The best way is to send it as a gift and the maximum for that is $150 as far as I knows... some people even suggested putting in a birthday card ;) I have to think about my options... but will get back to it ASAP (I am also a bit broke, but feel an urge since the set is no longer being produced) I will be in San Fransisco from May 13-16 2010 and New York City from May 16-25 2010 and in London from November 17-20 2009 It is just rediculous Lego is offering it on their website for US customers but not willing to sell it to European buyers... I even e-mailed them about it..... Anyone have any idea how much shipment (it is about 8-9 lbs) to Europe will be? -
Who wants to buy a Café Corner for me in the US?
merman posted a topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Really silly and stupid question, but here in Europe the Café Corner is completely sold out. There are several US websites, including Lego.com, Amazon.com, Target.com and toysrus.com who still sell the set for $139.99 I know I don't know a lot of people here but would someone be willing to buy me one. Of course I will transfer the money by Paypal first. Shipment in the US is for free, and I will cover for all expenses for sending it to Europe... I hope someone is willing to help me. I will be in the US this May but I am afraid the set will be sold out by then. If anyone knows where to find this set in London I'd be happy too since I'll go there this month... I can be contacted at: hellomrzebra at hotmail dot com I live in Amsterdam, so if you happen to be in Amsterdam soon that would also be an option I will reward you of course, which we can discuss by e-mail -
Does anyone know where to order the Café Corner on a US site that ships to Europe???

yes I know that but to me it seems they still come in two colors, the tractor seems to have them in dark grey -
TECHNIC Sets from 2010
merman replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What really strikes me: the Buggy has tan 3L axles with studs and the Tractor has them still in dark bley... so they use two types... Both are visible at the front wheels... or does the tractor use 5.5 axles??? -

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
merman replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't have either of them and since these sets are already close to perfection I'd want to buy them again... with small changes: - 8455: with new bley in stead of the old grey and with the gears and pins in the new color mode - 8421: with the gears and pins in the new color-mode, with the new 13L gear racks (they fit perfectly) and maybe with a longer gear rack or just the old system for the crane and with a PF XL motor and battery box... -

Personally I think it would be a very good plan, besidesa Technic Exclusive Supercar to rerelease some old sets and let the design team allow to refocus their designing skills with some extra time. I'd love to see rereleases of: - 8455 Backhoe - 8421 Mobile Crane, with PF this time - 8466 Off-Roader -
Review: 8258 Crane Truck
merman replied to starstreak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The other day I took my 8258 apart and something struck me. One of the black axles going to the xl motor has light bley powder on it where it went through a light bley beam. Like it caused much friction. Strange thing is the beam itself did not look damaged. Could the xl motor be too powerful for this set? could a m motor work??? -

I got mine yesterday and I absolutely love it. Superset. Looks great next to my 8285. Some questions about the design though: why is there a blue pin with stud in the back at the rear outriggers box? And why does the roof of the cabin use some grey non friction pins? -

merman replied to Glacarcheo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ok sorry about only naming flagships - 8284 Tractor is very good. Smart design, interesting build - 8284 Excavator I heard is quite good. I do not have it - 8292 Cherry Picker. Very nice and elegant and with motor. I would not recommend 8264, not many gears - 8265 Looks great and has 3 LA's - 8273 Off Road Truck is pretty neat too. Blue Lego is nice and it looks nice too -

Basically you ask about the best sets in the studless age. I prefer studless over studded because the building process is more interesting imho. My faves: - 8455 Backhoe, not sure if this is 2004. Lots of pneumatics. Harf to find for a good price. - 8421 Crane. Love this set. Interesting build, lots of functions, realistic and looks great. - 8285 Tow Truck - my return from the dark ages. Great set. Great functions, great looks. Sold it once. Regretted it and bought a new one. It is huge. - 8275 Bulldozer. Not very interesting to build but the power functions are great and it looks great. - 8258 Crane Truck. Don't have it yet, but saw some pics of the gearbox. It is amazing -

Thanks so much for the elaborate review. At first I didn't like the set but I ordered it anyway yesterday! I now love it. The handle-part is truly amazing and unique... Could you scan the part list?
