  1. Tried that out. I heated the point to about 100C (212F) for 5-10 minutes until it started flattening. Took it out and let it cool under some weight. And voilà, a nice flat point... Thanks.
  2. I recently bought a small bunch of RC/PF tracks during a garage sale. They were cheap, really cheap. The thing is the points are bent: when on a flat surface, the ends stick out by 0.5-1cm. It seems they were stored in a hot garage attic... Has anyone an idea on flattening the thingies? I mean anything quicker than: "put it under a few dozen pounds of books and wait for a (very long) while" would be welcome.
  3. Are you talking about the part with the 1x1x2/3 slopes? If that's the case, one word: SNOT! I see an extensive use of modified 1x1 bricks with studs on side. I am not at home right now, so I can't make a mock-up using MLCad. I'm sure some helping soul will come along... One thing though, if you have access to some lego CAD program (eg MLCad) then you could start by putting the parts you can see first and then try to fill the gaps...
  4. The bricklink part orders are gone... I'll show the photographic/video results as soon as the building is over... I am adding a boxcar which is of the approximate Ghs 30 "Oppeln" type (see that link -- the photo is very big, so no embedding) I am already full into my next project: a (062)+(260) (i.e. (C1)+(1C)) articulated tender locomotive of the "du Bousquet" type (see the wiki page or that page). In 8 stud wide it will have a length of about 42 studs. Here is postcard depiciting the loc: The coulour scheme is one of: chocolate brown ("Nord" scheme -- the one on the postard was in that scheme) ; a rather expensive coulour, jet black ("Est" or "Ceinture" scheme) or black with green tanks (SNCF scheme -- after 1938). I think I'll go for all black...
  5. Two videos with a lock on s-curves: By the way, don't the curves when one goes through a point have the same curvature as normal curves?
  6. Here is (bad) video of the axle design: As for the roof, I think I'll stay with the current one: although it has more of a parabolic rather than half elliptic section, it is easier to build. I'll post a picture of the new design for the lower body as soon as it is ready.
  7. Indeed, however While not being a purist, I find it difficult to procure stickers, let alone use them. Basically I can easily find printable decals, but I have yet to find prinable vinyl sheets. I tried with black and I find it to "pure": gray looks a bit weathered. As soon as it is possible, I'll post a version in black next to a version in dark bluish gray. Yes. I use an an articulation system. The centre wheel is sliding on the frame and using universal joints causing the outside wheels to turn. I made a mock-up to see whether it works.
  8. Two carriages somehow looking like the AB3yg (1st-2nd class) and B3yg (2nd class) types: I have a couple of questions: 1. Does anyone know how to make rounder roofs? Something round like part 61487 (which seemingly exists only in white or green) would be perfect... 2. Is the coulour for the bottom of the body correct? I am tryin to represent the sloping effect at the bottom of the body as one can see on this link
  9. Amazing! I really love the compact gear system. By the way, is the buffer the one from BlokBricks?
  10. Guess where I got the idea?
  11. Being a noob, I can't post with links yet... Anyway, I have a gallery on Brickshelf with the loc. Search for user fstengel...
  12. Here is my 8-wide version of the BR64. I modelled it after the actual lok numbered: 064-019-3. Hence no hole in the water tank above the first driver. This helped a lot: the 9V battery is hidden at that place... I'll post the link to the brickshel folder once it is made public. I will also provide an ldr file for a model almost like the one I present (I made many alterations while building it)
  13. Hello, I have been a lego fan since my first set il the early 70's. After a lengthy pause (grown-ups don't play with Lego so they said) I'm back. After years of playing with the son I eventually came to Lego trains las Christmas with the 7939 cargo train. Since then, there was no turning back. My first attempt at MOCing was this WIP: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=492598 It's not really that good: it looks too much like the red loc from the 3677 set. For now, I am working on a complete steam train modeled on those I saw as a kid when vacationing with my grandparents: a BR64 with 3yg type carriages (3 wheeled). The engine is nearly finished...
