"To add to what my companion said, there is an Amethyst in my Dauntlet Index--" as he speaks, Arthur indicates the weapon of which he speaks "--that I would like to replace with its Ethereal counterpart. Would that be possible?"

"Wait, on the what--?!" But they were already gone. Drat. It's been far too long since I've caught up on current affairs in Heroica Hall. I'm out of the loop. Perhaps... "<Such a philosophy is not without truth.>" Miirym observes. "Yes, but not as Matthias sees it. There is might beyond mere force, Miirym. Wars may be won with words over wounds. Even where violence is unavoidable, it may still be minimized, as it was in my fight with Sven's champion. Restraint is what separates a boss from a bully." Miirym dips her head in consideration. Arthur sighs. "Well, I was hoping to glean more information from this meeting, but at least we're all mostly on the same page now." Arthur nods respectfully to the others. "I think I'll go meet with Bombast, but first I think I'll stop by the Forge Master, see about having some equipment improved. Melquiades, to the Forge Master, please." "<Likewise.>"

"Ah, so basically proto-Regret, then," Arthur interjects sardonically. "Okay, time out here. What exactly happened between you, Purpearl, and Chauncey? When Purpearl mentioned it, she mentioned a betrayal, but that hardly matches what I've seen of the man I've gotten to know these past weeks. Lord Chauncey seems to me to be thoughtful and respectful--well, respectful to everyone but you, it seems--and not at all the monster you two and Hoke seem to believe him to be. What am I missing here?" OOC: I second this query.

No, trust me, Indiacca is far more irritating.

It's still 1 HP per level-up, as usual.

Take your time, burnout is no fun at all.

Arthur shakes his head. "I keep forgetting you weren't there with us in the Valley of Ennon. He had been petrified for seven years, low on health and Ether, too weak to even swing a staff, and yet he stood by us, risking life and limb on the off chance he could be of help. When Haldor and I were both idiots, he spoke wisdom to try to heal the rift. Triad and Sasha and Bal, they all held Passion in the utmost respect. He may have had his secrets, maybe even his own motives, but to be frank so do we. None of us came on this journey by mere chance, we all have secrets and pasts and motives that have led us to this point, whether it be to seek ancestral wisdom or reunite with loved ones or revisit old Questing grounds or just help out a friend in need. Passion was just like us, for better or for worse." "And as far as the ritual working--I've put my life in Doc Daneeka's hands before, and I'd do it again. If he says it will work, it will work. Period." Arthur sighs. "I know I probably sound overly hopeful, even naive. Believe me, I'm not. I know there'll be challenges. But I am confident that we will be more than able to handle whatever Etheria has to throw at us. And I'm just as confident that if we don't revive Passion, we'll come to regret it." Arthur looks to Matthias and Dyric, hopeful that his impassioned plea would be enough to sway them.

"If you had ever met Passion, you would know how ludicrous it would be to consider him a threat to the world. He was a Hero, for gods' sakes, and one of the better ones Heroica has had. He never asked for anything, only gave. He was kind, generous, courageous, and willing to step up and help others when no one else would. He could have sided with Wren, and her passion for Chaos could have fed him for generations, but instead he chose to stand by our side and help us take her down. These aren't the acts of some power-hungry monster, they're the acts of a good man. Passion is nothing like Regret. I hope when you meet him, you come to realize that."

"Passion was--and if we complete our mission, will be--a good man. I, for one, support our moving forward. Besides, to back down now would render all our earlier trials and struggles a colossal waste of time. We've come this far, already begun to meddle in these affairs. It would be ludicrous to turn back now."

Funny, they said that about Arthur, and yet they still keep finding ways around it.

I think our accessing the side-quests was an artifact of the Baltarok party getting so heavily delayed. We got there early, and since we couldn't access the main plot without them, Zeph let us dig a little into the side-quests that were meant to be done after this meeting with Hope.

Arthur came to warn Purpearl about the meeting, but she decided not to come back to the City Center once she was done talking to the shadow.

"Let me put it this way. I hate him, but I would not wish to bring him harm...so long as he does not bring harm to those I care about." Arthur shrugs. "I recognize his necessity. That does not mean I would desire to encounter him ever again. Especially since he's the one who made Zane and the Court of Demons what they were, and sent Passion to his death." Arthur pauses thoughtfully. "Could you explain what you meant by 'becoming responsible for regret'? Passion mentioned to us that you are strengthened by the...emotion...that each of you represent, but he did not go into much more detail about what that entails, and now you speak as if it is a choice you made, not an inherent part of your being. You say Matthias is now an Old God, will he too have to take on such an aspect?" When Matthias looks at Arthur, he can see concern, compassion--and something else, something not unlike the gnome's own expression when speaking of Regret. "You're forgetting that something very real targeted and killed Lord Hughes, Guffington's other partner in studying the Old Gods, and tried to kill Guffington himself. And I refuse to believe that the visions Matthias, Hybros, and I received were without purpose, mere mementos of an earlier time. We were shown the killing darkness for a reason, and if it was not to warn us of its return, then I am hard-pressed to think of why." Arthur pauses. "Dyric. We all know that Passion's death wasn't right. We both know that I was another suitable victim for Wren's plan, removed from the Veterans' protection--Hel, I talked to her alone less than an hour before he was taken. The only reason he was there was because Regret ordered him to be there, and the only reason she needed him was because Atramor, Cronk, and I saved Ella in Dastan. I have a responsibility to see this through, and as long as it remains possible I will hold out hope that bringing Passion back will be undoing a great wrong, not committing one. I truly believe that this is the best course of action."

I'll be honest, I was kinda hoping Demon Bobby would end up sounding like that emo Kylo Ren account that got super popular on Twitter and Tumblr.

New magic shop in the Marketplace? Heck yeah! I'll miss Elphaba, but having a permanent magic shop will be more than worth it, especially since Quests are so long these days that barely anyone would get the chance to shop at a store that's only open for a month.

Miirym appears mildly miffed. "<Not to diminish the seriousness of this moment, but I should like to state for the record how unfair it seems that the two of you have seen this great ancestral Dragon while I have not. I am most envious of you both.>" The motivation behind Miirym's mutterings is revealed as Arthur allows himself a slight smile. Miirym seems pleased with her successful efforts to raise his spirits, however slightly.

Arthur's mouth gapes, and he grows weak at the knees, as suddenly a great many pieces fall into place for him. "So that's why Amarcolm thought you'd be supportive of the idea...I must admit, I had been hoping to meet you since the night Passion--" "Wait, the megabluck?! Dead?!?" Arthur looks around, spooked, until he manages to lock eyes with Melquiades, at which point he calms slightly; Miirym moves subtly closer to Arthur, shielding his back with her own body. "Are we sure this is a vision of past or present, or could it be a warning, a portent of the future? The Master of Regret is no friend of mine, no offense to you Mother, but the thought of him killed..." Arthur looks back to Hope. "The vision I shared with Hybros. You were there, with a great blue Dragon, getting rid of the Vault of the First Breath, trying to do so before something else could claim it. That was real, wasn't it? But that was...so long ago. Ages. Millennia. When the Aoi of Xu were a newborn race. Was it the same Darkness that plagues us now? If so, why has it returned? And why now?" "<Melquades,>" Miirym suddenly asks. "<The 'bad energy' in the Ice Room...is it this 'Darkness' Dyric speaks of?>"

Miirym finally takes note of Arthur's unusual silence. "<Are you all right, Arthur?>" "M'fine," he mumbles. Miirym stares stubbornly at him. "I just saw something I wish I hadn't seen, all right?" Miirym raises an eye ridge--no doubt a habit she'd picked up from Arthur himself. "Leave it," Arthur warns. He wanders over to Zeus. "Zeus, my friend, I was wondering, as head of the Merchant Guild, surely you know all of the shopkeeps and artisans on the island. Is there anywhere I could go to have my weapons improved, reforged, perhaps even fused? I'd love to put a more magical kick into them than mere gems can provide, even gems as wonderful as the one you sold me." Miirym shakes her head and goes back over to Hoke and Hybros. Miirym's brow furrows in concentration. She lowers her "voice" to include only Hoke and Hybros. "<Hmm...I get the feeling that we, too, may need to examine those skulls in the course of investigating our party's visions. Perhaps we should meet in The Mother's office before we embark on that particular journey?>" Miirym resumes addressing the general vicinity. "<Forgive the intrusion. I am named Miirym. My partner Arthur Ziegfried began as an Ice mage himself, so I am sure he would be sympathetic to your desires. Do you have any idea what might have prompted Melquiades to seal the room in the first place? It could be conducive to our negotiations.>"

Miirym sniffs haughtily. "<There is a difference between disagreement and death threats, Sir Ablesword. If I am completely honest, I can imagine our task going terribly wrong. But that is no reason to threaten the life of an ally, especially one who has shown us and our employer nothing but kindness and understanding.>"

"I'm game. Let me just pop over to Strange Beach to let Purpearl know. Miirym, I'll be right back." "<But-->" "Excuse me, Melquiades, could you take me to Strange Beach?" Arthur arrives on the beach, marveling at the bizarre environment for a moment before approaching Purpearl. He waits until the shadowy being she is speaking to finishes saying their piece. "Pardon me for interrupting, Purpearl...and Shadow Merchant, I presume? Pleasure to meet you. Anyway, Purpearl, the rest of the party has arrived, and Doc Daneeka wants us all to gather in the Mother's office once we get the chance. Just thought you ought to know." Arthur turns to leave, but jogs back a moment later. "And if those are Ethereal Amethysts you're talking about, Purpearl, I wouldn't mind having one myself; I'll gladly pay you back whatever it costs." His messages delivered, Arthur walks down the pyramid a little ways before calling upon Melquiades once more. "Melquiades, to the City Center once more, please." As the beach begins to disappear, time briefly shifts once more, and for a moment he sees two extremely familiar figures... Arthur reappears in the city center, face flushed red and looking somewhat queasy.

Arthur chuckles. "That's Alexis--stubborn as always." He shakes his head. "I'd advise you to buy some Crystal Shoes, Hybros bought a pair earlier for 444 gold. They seem like they'd go well with your helmet." "<Interesting...U'or mentioned these artifacts being from Etheria originally. Perhaps he did not search for the fountain, but placed it instead? I'll mention this to Arthur later.>" In response to Guts' query about the shops, Miirym indicates Zeus' stall with a sweep of her wing. "<Zeus' stall is there, where Arthur and Dyric are now. It is the only shop I have seen, which makes sense since he is the head of Etheria's Merchant Guild.>" Miirym cranes her neck, and grabs the list of Zeus' wares that the merchant had given the party members earlier, showing it to Guts and Matthias. OOC: Hoke and I already bought the two Etherial Topazes. By the way, Zeph, shouldn't the Etherial Electrical Gear also protect from stunned, for consistency with the other elemental gears? "Haddon!" Arthur calls in surprise. "I would have expected you to make landfall in Newharbour. When McColt and I visited after our Quest in the Valley of Ennon, it seemed like the clear choice for access into the southern High Kingdoms; its ports aren't as large and well-developed as Eubric's, but they're pretty close behind." Arthur goes quiet when Dyric mentions Triad; even all these years later, he still misses the strange being. "It's strange that you mention visions...I've started having them as well, ever since I learned the First Breath. I think Hybros might have had it as well, he was sort of there and sort of not. We were riding an enormous blue-and-silver Dragon, and there was talk of jettisoning the First Breath from a giant flying city. The Vault of the First Breath was apparently the last one they cut loose, before something killed most of them. I couldn't make sense of it, chalked it up to my old visions flaring up again, but if you've been having them too, something larger may be at play here." He frowns. "What was your vision about?"

Arthur steps aside, gesturing to the electrical elemental standing behind the golden chest. He leads Dyric over. "Zeus," he says, "this is my good friend Dyric. I think he'll appreciate the wares you have to offer." Arthur looks to Dyric. "Zeus can find pretty much anything in the world, if you have enough Gold. I'd advise magical items, personally, they seem to be easier for him to get ahold of." Arthur casually pages through the copy of "Of Power and Mortals" he'd bought earlier while he waits for Dyric to make his requests of Zeus. Miirym shakes her head, moving closer to Guts and Matthias while Arthur and Dyric shop. "<I apologize for his...eccentricity. He has missed Dyric. The Assassin represents a degree of camaraderie that has proven occasionally scarce amongst our group. Even he and I have had our disagreements along the way. Our journey was more a clash of words and ideas than of blades. It is good to see him let loose and smile with sincerity once more.>"
