  1. Agreed, however... Zakura, even though guns per se are a little outside the Heroica "flavor", that doesn't mean you can't still use the Guns and Gunplay tropes you have in mind, substituting bows or throwing knives or handcannons for actual guns. Indeed, thinking about the logical consequences of (for example) a Mexican Standoff or a Pretty Little Headshot or Pistol Whipping or a Last Breath Bullet in a medieval-era setting can lead you in very interesting directions (for example, unless you're stupid (or desperate) enough to shoot an enemy archer while they have their bow drawn, there's not really a chance of a Last Breath Bullet, and even then it's more likely their shot will just go wild as soon as you hit them; with a crossbow, on the other hand...). And of course, several tropes (i.e. Marked Bullet, Shoot the Bullet (arrows are substantially slower than actual bullets), and Shoot the Rope, to name a few) are more realistic with archery weapons than with bullets and pistols. TL;DR, The Gunslinger doesn't need to use guns; Hawkeye (or at least the movie incarnation) is an excellent example of a Gunslinger who uses a bow and arrow. Gunplay tropes that NEED to make an appearance in Heroica: Two Shots From Behind The Bar, Trench Coat Warfare, Pillow Pistol (preferably some spectacular subversion), and I Just Shot Marvin In The Face (a good way to subvert Pillow Pistol, now that I think of it... ).
  2. Photos posted to external sites will sometimes refuse to load, and certain elements of the interface (i.e. the arrow icon on the menu in the upper-right corner, smileys, and occasionally the forum banner) will decide not to load. Refreshing usually fixes things, but it happens rather often, and the refresh takes a long time as well. I'll see about getting a screenshot the next time I see a broken image, if possible. EDIT: Wow, timed out submitting this, AND got a good screenshot of the broken images:
  3. Arthur, via Vipera, sees the Chaos Beasts moving up the East stairs. He frowns. "It doesn't make sense," he murmurs...
  4. Arthur takes one look at Emperor Roland and decides to Blind him from the Back Row. "I'll stall Roland as long as my Ether holds out, the rest of you can take out the other enemies."
  5. Did you not read my backstory flashback in Quest 31? Adam, the Quest Masters' Lounge has a good guide in the first post, though there are plenty of discussions about balance and Quest design both there and here (though reading several hundred pages' worth of discussion in this topic may not be as appealing to you as it was to me ). I'll put a link to the QM's Lounge in this post in a second. EDIT: Here you go!
  6. "Isabella, throw a Fire Bomb, it'll instantly take out one of our enemies and leave the other one dead from poisoning!"
  7. I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this, but EB has been repeatedly timing out, failing to load photos and images, and generally just been slow for me. (This is particularly aggravating when a post submission times out, for obvious reasons.) Is this something on my end, or...? If it is on my end, is there anything I can do to fix this?
  8. Shame. Hmm...consumable that boosts healing abilities... *scribble scribble*
  9. And now in the real of strange and bizzare questions: if a Cleric is Encouraged, would that also increase the amount they heal? Not that it would matter for most Heroes, but perhaps for a Heal Less... [/isthinkingofgivingNerwentheMead]
  10. "De'kra, you have a Phoenix Essence, right? Now would be an excellent time to use it, we need William's ability to attack two enemies at once. It's your call, though. You can ignore Blackenord, since he can't dish out a Free Hit." Arthur hear's Atramor's advice ring in his brain. "You mean the enemies taking out Emperor Roland? Aye, That'll do fine, I'll move West now. Someone had better keep an eye to the East, though, in case those Chaos Beasts, Chimaera Guards, and XX suddenly decide to head upstairs." OOC: What about the Sleep-effect?
  11. Will Cronk teach them to bash evil? Congratulations, is it a boy or a girl? Anyway, I completely understand taking plenty of time off for something like that.
  12. OOC: Does Roland's Decieve special ignore row and/or SP? For future reference. "Sir Cronk, if my Blinding of Blackenord works, next Round I will use my Mead on you, we could use the extra strength."
  13. Just to confirm, we CAN use items like Meads and Potions on other Heroes, correct? So, for example, since Cronk is in the south Hall with me, I can use my Mead on him to Encourage him?
  14. I forsee you being in high demand among all the QMs and prospective QMs of Heroica (including me!). Welcome!
  15. Dang, way to make that really tempting! I need to lose rep with the Hinckwells and gain rep with the Zeigfrieds. That said, I still think I'll go with Wren, since Zeph mentioned this would be the last Wren Quest before the finale (which I think he said will require having been on a previous Wren Quest).
  16. Sandy, you mentioned a Hinckwell/Zeigfried Quest, would this be a combined-effort Quest or a Hinckwell-versus-Zeigfried Quest like the one with the Guild of Invision-versus-Shadeaux Quest you hosted before your vacation?
  17. Thanks! It's good to be back!

  18. Thanks! I've missed you guys.

  19. I'm mostly finished, I kinda glossed over the trebuchet battle, I'll pick that up later. Definitely expand that to 6 players, though, I REALLY want a crack at Wren. I can fix that for you.
  20. Arthur nods. "Someone needs to heal William, his bow should deal double damage to the Chimaera Guards. I'm going to blind Blackenord unless someone else needs health." Arthur mentally berates himself for not giving anyone his Mead earlier, forgetting for a moment that everyone could hear his thoughts thanks to Vipera's spell. "William, focus on the Chimaera guards, I'll keep Blackenord busy for a while."
  21. Arthur reels momentarily, the dragon's vision nearly overwhelming him as he simultaneously tapped into its power while trying to shield his own memories from the mind-link. If they knew...bah! There's no time for this! Arthur's physical vision blurred and went haywire, and he could not tell where sight ended and the dragon-vision began. "Erm, who exactly is in the South Hall with me?" OOC: Sorry to be a bother, could we include the "location" stat for the Heroes as well? Helps me to know if I'm in range to heal someone, thanks.
  22. Arthur looks around distractedly, the call of the Chaos Beasts weighing heavily upon him. It appears I chose a rather poor moment to meditate, he thought to himself. "I'll second Mr. Harkenshire's question, if someone wouldn't mind."
  23. Would the Dastan Questies who have met Wren count as having been on a Wren Quest, or only those from Quest 30 specifically?
  24. It's not that I'm getting killed; that I can handle. What angers me is that I'm being killed through no fault of my own, but because the host decided to destroy my role-claim for no good reason. But you know this already, we've been arguing about it for hours in Basecamp. Oh, and since I don't have to worry about hiding my alignment anymore, I'd better post that notice I've been waiting to post in General Discussion. Writeboard is no longer a viable solution for Scum discussion, since it's been rolled into a paid service; we've tried a few replacements but with really limited success. Scum teams forevermore will be most grateful if a replacement service is found and linked for general use.
  25. Gee, thanks for interfering with a role-claim, Admiral. I thought hosts weren't supposed to participate in the game? Lemme explain something to you: being a Scum? Our job is to instill fear and confusion in the Town. If we see a way to screw up Town's perceptions, it's our job to manipulate them. Even when we're on the road to be lynched, we HAVE to keep the Town paranoid and off-balance, so as to give our team the best possible chance of winning. What gives you the right to screw with that?!? There's a line between hostly clarification and outright interference, and you have more than crossed it. A casual glance at the discussion would reveal that my roleclaim relied on that joke in the pictures. Did that joke actually mean anything? Of course not, I'm not the redirector. But it's not your megablocking job to outright tell the Town I was lying!!!! You know what's worse? The host statement you made was PATENTLY FALSE. There ARE clues in the pictures; take a look at this picture from this morning: Who's that sitting at the table, depressed and glum? Oh, I don't know, how about THE ENTIRE FREAKING SCUM TEAM??? Why don't you just tell everyone, "Oh, Brickdoctor, Flipz, Inconspicuous, and Masked Builder are Scum" and get it over with, instead of DELIBERATELY making a FALSE statement designed to out me to the Town. In exactly WHAT way is that fair, reasonable, OR balanced??? Hell, why didn't you put Pie in there with the rest of us, he's our role-cop, after all! In my eyes, this whole game is invalid because of what you've done. Since our host was so kind as to invalidate my roleclaim, I'll come clean with you all. Yes, I am a member of the League of Purists, their Killer, to be exact. There were six of us at the beginning: me, Lieutenant Hornby, Lieutenant McAndrews, Ensign York, Ensign Holloway, and Ensign Williams, our leader and Godfather. We had a great shot at winning, until you managed to kill Hornby last night. Even with that setback and with Wheeler's case against me, we thought there was still a shot at us pulling this off, but since the Admiral is clearly on the Loyalists' side, it's hopeless for us. I hope you enjoy winning at the expense of fairness and balanced play. Have fun flying around in space with your "impartial" host! My only consolation is that if there is another Scum team, they still have a shot at winning this farce of a game. In fact, let me tell you what I know and suspect: Lieutenant Francis (Shadows) is a Bomb, so don't bother taking him out since he'll only kill your killer; this is a fact, Francis claimed to me last night. Lieutenant Daly (Darkdragon) is most likely the Town blocker, that's why Wheeler trusted her even though she had hidden the "last active at" field on her profile. Walters, Rockford, and Campbell all claimed Vanilla, but you should still be cautious of them. Of course, feel free to disbelieve me. My friends will happily pile up your bodies for you. Who knows; maybe if you ignore my advice I can actually win this with them in spite of our "illustrious" host's interference. Not that it matters either way, since he's broken one of the FUNDAMENTAL rules of Mafia: "A host should not favor any side once play has started." Oh, look, the Admiral replied to my PM: I'm not going to lie to help the scum team. I'm neutral in all of this, I'm explaining that there's no hints in the pictures. I made that announcement yesterday and I repeated it today. If you're basing your defence on a picture then perhaps you deserve being convicted. So don't blame your fall on me, you were screwed with the townie combo of actions last night anyway. I don't think you comprehend the job of a Scum; we're supposed to take every little bit of false information we can and use it to confuse and discourage the Town. In any event, you would not have had to lie; all you would have had to do was to keep your mouth shut. I know you made that announcement yesterday; let the Town go find that for themselves! You obviously read through the thread to see that there was discussion going on about clues in the pictures; you HAD to have seen that my Redirector claim relied on that minifigure switch in the pictures. Once you saw that that point of discussion was a key point in someone's role-claim, you should not have touched on the point again at all. You had already made your statement on the subject; if the Town was going to ignore it, that was their business. The ONLY result that could have come out of your clarification was the destruction of my role-claim; there was NO reason to make that statement again EXCEPT to ruin my claim. You should have seen that and backed off; you failed to remain impartial and skewed the game against the Scum. The Town actions aren't what screwed me; take another look at the posts before your little announcement. There was confusion and uncertainty as to whether or not I was Scum. Even if I had been lynched anyway, that confusion and uncertainty would have carried over into the night, giving my team a fighting chance against the Town; your announcement not only sealed my fate, it confirmed my alignment, TOTALLY shifting the balance of power in favor of the Town--not as a result of bad play, but because YOU CONFIRMED MY SCUM ALIGNMENT TO THE TOWN. What it all boils down to is this: there was confusion surrounding my alignment. You clarified that confusion, thus confirming my alignment. YOU STEPPED IN WHEN YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE. That's not right, and it's not fair. It is not your job to reveal publicly when someone is lying; I was lying to the Town when I implied that those photos were evidence of my actions. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE REVEALED THAT I WAS LYING; LYING IS AN INTRINSIC PART OF BEING A SCUM AND MAKING A FALSE ROLE-CLAIM AND IT IS NOT YOUR JOB AS HOST TO CORRECT THOSE LIES.
