  1. Welcome to Eurobricks! If you're interested in historical builds, be sure to check out Guilds of Historica, and don't forget the Heroica RPG as well!
  2. I'll second that, and raise you a Quest 38 (even though I'm biased there for obvious reasons). I seriously can't imagine a Wren Quest without those Heroes, though. Actually, I'd just figure that Zeph should start with any character who's ever owned a Zoot's Plaything and/or Zoot's Cookie, and go from there. Getting into specifics, I've already mentioned the combo of Arthur-Nerwen-Thothwick-De'kra-Hybros, but the more I think of it the more I realize that a.) De'kra and Nerwen haven't been on a Wren Quest yet (and thus, are inelligible unless you've changed the rules), and b.) I really, REALLY want to see that team on a Ji Pei Quest. So, alternatives: Cronk-Haldor-Skrall-Arthur-Atramor-Thothwick-Daggerfall, with Tensi and Tarn if the party size is 8 and adding Hybros and Docken if it's 10. Alternatively, going off the Zoot's Plaything listing: Cronk-Hybros-Tensi-Haldor-Skrall, and selecting the remainder from this list: Arthur, Alexis, Atramor, Docken, Daggerfall, Thothwick, Jess, Tarn, Nyx, Dyric, Hoke, Henry Sicarul, Erik, Harkenshire Lastly, a completely different take: Arthur-Daggerfall-Docken-Alexis-Dyric-Skrall-Nyx-(Tarn or Atramor). This takes two people from each Wren Quest who have only participated in one Wren Quest each; thus, lots of newer blood but also lots of great characters and good roleplaying.
  3. No-o-o. . . .! [/outofcontext]
  4. Why don't you just end the Quest and then add the photos in later after you've finished taking them?
  5. Somebody get Atramor some SP, stat!!
  6. I find it interesting that the Pheles Rod, a weapon that grants permanent Aura (and thus requires lots of HP and SP) is a staff, thus meaning it's available for use by Mage-based classes (who generally have the lowest HP and SP). I've been going through my head, and the only classes I can think of that might be able to handle it are Mystic Knights (they have the SP, and if not the best HP bonus, they at least have the highest among Mage-based classes at +7) and Paladins (obviously, with upgradeable SP and a +11 bonus on top of an already high 9 or 10 base HP). Shamans almost made the cut, but the fact that most Cleric- and Barbarian-suitable Artifacts don't grant SP and the fact that their SHIELD may damage them if they fight undead (plus the vulnerability to poisons) means they're a little too fragile to use the Rod. Witches are a special case; while their HP is middling no matter whether they started as a Rogue or a Cleric, the potential for Special Mirror abuse is WAY too good to pass up. If Atramor gets SP:4 or more from an Artifact (heck, a SP:3 Tricorne from the Marketplace would be enough for ONE battle in the Fields), I really, really want to see him borrow the Pheles Rod and spam Special Mirror in a low-level Fields battle. On another note, it's just now struck me that the amount of base HP you get from your base class stays the same, even when advancing to an Advanced Class; thus, two Level 15 Mystic Knights might have two different HP totals (26 if they started as Mage, or 31 if they started as a Knight). This is a very, very basic (and logical) element, but it's subtly masterful. It just goes to show how the simple elegance of Heroica still shines through, even with more complex elements like Advanced and Expert classes in play.
  7. In the Reviewers' Academy, you can write and take pics for a review over time, and, once you've graduated from the Academy, you can post them to the main forums. I started a review on "Gandalf Arrives" way back, and I have yet to finish it.
  8. Scum or dumb, my friend, scum or dumb... EDIT: A change to my Lion Knight disguise outfit! Because, you know, Arthur still has that from Dastan. Not that I expect it to be useful at all, but I figured that Arthur has Roderick's sword, so I should build a version of the 'fig that actually features it. Note that Arthur's original (Sorcerer) image is still the correct picture to use for the Heroes' Gallery and for most party photos. Full-size pic: Arthur_LionDisguise_800x600 by Poochythegenius, on Flickr EDIT 2: Reading all the old R&D posts is fun. And lo and behold...
  9. Holy crap, upon reading through R&D from the beginning, it appears that Tanma predicted Quest 30 over eight months before it departed! ...although, Zeph WAS the next person to post... :hmph_bad:
  10. Can I just reiterate that I really, really, really hope that Arthur, Thothwick, De'kra, and Nerwen all get on Quest 51 together?
  11. Sleep? I hear that's a common requirement among mere mortals. Hehe, I've been reading through the first few pages of this topic, it's hilarious. It's hard to believe there was a time when no one knew what the Advanced Classes were; now it's considered one of the basic things to have in mind when you start your character!
  12. Actually, no; you lost your Hastened effect when you were Knocked out.
  13. You know, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense: I definitely need better pictures of and/or instructions for Mephisto; I simply must build a replica to guard my room.
  14. The real-world story of the OT is a lot better, too. "Genius visionary atrist and his small but hardworking team of actors and crew struggle against the system to create a masterpiece that changes movies forever" vs. "somewhat loopy ex-visionary drops absurd amounts of cash so his army of workers can create a pretty but ultimately hollow mess". Really though, I have to agree with what others have said; Lucas is GREAT at visual storytelling, he just doesn't have the skill of making good STORIES to tell. I'd hire him as a cinematographer or visual director (can't think of the proper term, sorry) in a heartbeat, but as a writer or director...not so much.
  15. I'm really torn; Scuba's beard-hair-hammer combo is brilliant but limited to Cleric options, while WBD's really fits thematically (nice use of the cape, by the way!). In terms of older faces, I really like WBD's design; true, there aren't any wrinkles or anything, but somehow this dwarf already seems older and sort of sadder than the other dwarves here. Remember, age is as much a quality of behavior as it is of physical age; Erdathcath's faces, for example, have both been used by characters who are very young, and yet her behavior indicates her centuries of experience. Likewise, before his untimely death, Arasmyth's minifigure form appeared old, but his behavior gave the impression of impetuous, impulsive youth.
  16. Welcome to Eurobricks, Stims! That seems to be most of the process anyway. Nice variety of sets you've got there, most of mine are either sets from the late 80s or the 90s that I got at garage sales or sets from 2005-onward that I bought for myself. It's amazing how much the LEGO aesthetic has changed even in that short span, both in sets and in MOCs.
  17. It's ironic; I've bought SO many sets, and yet I rarely MOC. My (admittedly hypocritical ) advice: just go for it! Build something small, have fun with it, and share it with us! The learning will follow. Take it from me: I've had a beautiful MOC in mind for almost a year and a half, but everytime I see a crazy new technique in someone else's build, I feel like I have to rethink the entire thing, and I never end up even starting. Of course, LEGO is about more than just building, it's about community, building friendships as well as MOCs, so take everything I said above with a grain of salt; if you find you'd rather talk than build, just roll with it. Anyway, welcome to Eurobricks! I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us!
  18. Welcome to Eurobricks! If you're interested in reviews, you might want to check out the Eurobricks Reviewers' Academy. (Speaking of which, I really ought to get back to that revew I started over six months ago... ) Enjoy your stay!
  19. Because this belongs more here than in the topic it was originally in:
  20. Well, yeah, but I mean, does Sandy decide "OK, this time I'll throw in a Death's Rose just for fun," or does he roll a die or something to see which enemies appear and then adjust the number of them to match the difficulty of the battle?
  21. My department's doing Spring Awakening in the spring, auditions will be at the start of next month. Should be interesting...the director will be leaving at the end of the semester, hopefully she goes out with a bang! Speaking of next semester, I'm thinking about directing a Showcase at the department (every Thursday night and Friday afternoon, we have a 40-60 minute play presented for all the theatre majors, as well as anyone who wants to come watch). Problem is, my library of plays is laughably small, and consists almost entirely of multi-act 90-minute pieces. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good play that would fit the time requirements?
  22. looking for 50- to 60-minute plays...any suggestions?

  23. Hey, Sandy, are you individually buiding each encounter in the Fields ("building" in a "determining what enemies will be in each battle" sense, you're obviously building everything in LEGO ), or are you using some sort of random encounter table? See, that's the sort of thing that the profile status thing is for.
  24. You have Finnegan. All joking aside, though, he really is an invaluable asset, I hope you realize that.
  25. You have to turn off the rich text editor. Once you do that, the same BBCode as before will work to add links. For example... I usually keep Rich Text on, and then if I have to add a link I'll turn it off, type in the code and a word or two afterward, and then go back to Rich Text mode. As an added bonus, toggling Rich Text on and off acts as a quick version of the Preview function, meaning I can see right away if I've messed up the codes.
