  1. Thanks Brickster. I should have themed it more around Eldorado Fortess when I think about it... because that would be a cool concept. And It would make me be able to make it a bit smaller. The red brick sections are actually PRINTED pieces much like the "rock section" castle pieces. They were with a few pirate sets like 6277 Imperial Trading Post, 6265 Sabre Island and the aforementioned 6276 Eldorado Fortress. I think thats it. I will complete it soon... but I have started a new MOC... it is going to be an Imperial Fort in the NORTH... so something that we would find along the St.Lawrence River in Canada or along the Eastern Coast... somewhere where its cold... I dont think I've seen anyone do a Northern Imperial Fort... so I am working on this one. A Rank! In the Stockade! I am honoured. You guys know I'm a huge pirate fan. My favourite theme.
  2. Thanks tole_11. Unfortunately I will not be revisiting this. if I do it will be a little smaller. But talking about it makes me want to redo it and actually finish it this time!
  3. Thanks Phes! I am not 100% sure. I definately want to build something like this, with the same influences... but I do not think it will be alot like this. It will have the same idea, possibly the same 'types' of structures (2 large buildings and few smaller ones), but they may be rearranged and look very different. I definately would want to make the design better by using less pieces, as I notice using too many pieces sometimes looks sloppy and takes away alot.
  4. This is an unfinished Imperial Fort I was working on back in September/October 2005. The cost of finishing it, time shortages and a major design flaw I realized late in its contruction made me give it up. I took the pictures because I liked part of how it was turning out, but I realized there were too many things I didn't like about it to continue. It would be easier for me just to restart. One day when I was cleaning my room, i knocked it off of the small bass amp it was on top of... and that made it finalized - it would have to be taken apart. This was taken before I had gotten to the max of it (which made me realize the design flaw), so it is not as 'done' as it was before it broke... but it was pretty close to the same stage. So here it is in its unfinished unglorious glory... Sting's Imperial Capitol Fort (I made up the name just now...lol) Front View. You can see how I was trying to build this set wit a lack of yellow and white pieces. I had alot more black pieces than I did yellow and white, so i was filling them in until I ordered white/yellow pieces of the proper type. The tall structure you see built on the left was to be an administration/office area. There were 2 large rooms. This building is heavily influenced by the Castle Gate House in THIS picture. It didn't turn out looking much like it, but I really loved the use of the lattice windows in it. Thats why there are so (maybe too) many of those in the structure. I loved the effect of them. Side View One. This is the left side of the Fort's HQ. From here you can see the awkwardly high roof of one of the buildings( a result of my lack of building talent... one of the main reasons I ditched the project in the end). I tend to look for results fast with lego instead of thinking about things. I know of 100 ways I could have made this work, but I was rushing because I wanted to see my fort in its glory. The large window like structure could open up to allow easy access to the archives. You can also see a small glimpse into the entrance and one of a few black castle wall pieces that would later be replaced by white ones. Just a Close up of the Main Building. You can see all the lattice fences and awkward unfinishedness of the set. lol Just a look from behind. the top room was to be the Governor/Admirals Office/Quarters. I originally wanted it back open like most lego sets are, but later decided I wanted a removable roof... this of course caused a bit of problems with my design (which was pretty terrible) and was another reason for me ditching the project. The very top of this structure was to have a little room with a slanted red roof that would hold a treasure, or if I had enough pieces, the admirals bed. You can also see the grand entrance that was being guarded. (I have ALOT more Soldiers... but I was just using a few to get heights properly) Lower Right Angle. From here we see what was to become the 2nd large structure on the Fort. the front arches back into the brown ones was going to be a storage area, with a small courtyard and cannon emplacement on top. The whole part up to the brown arches was to be ALA Pirate Ideas 1992 (see where the 2 cannons are?) but obviously didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it. Once again. Black was going to be replaced with yellow or white and in the case of floor, light grey. From where the brown Arch was was going to be the entrance (well, for people in the base) to a very large Barracks that would have been a bit taller than the Main Building. It was going to have 2 or 3 floors, with beds a mess hall, and an armory. (Not a good idea... having your soldiers sleep below gunpowder... but oh well LOL) Right side view into the courtyard. If the barracks was built, this view wouldnt have been possible, but through the qualities of lazyness... the barracks never was! So here we go. There was going to be a central courtyard in the Fort, where I was going to make a large flagpole, have some cannons, and basically an area where the troops gather in the morning... you know... the usual "I put too much thought into what this LEGO courtyard was to be used for" stuff. If you look to the far right of the picture, you'll see an empty plate. There was supposed to be a small structure here to house some cannons, but it never got done. The turret in the far corner of the courtyard was going to have another cannon. In total the fort was going to have probably 4 or 5 rotating cannons... and 4 non-rotating ones. I think this idea had potential but I wanted too much too fast and the design suffered heavily, making changing things almost impossible (as it would mean dismantling the entire set and having me forget exactly how things went...). Although it seems fun now to do this (after all, thats whats lego is about!) back than I wanted to get my huge fort up. I hope this little 'tour' through an unfinished MOC was slightly interesting and made you feel better about your own (better) MOC's LOL. I thought I should do my part and add something to the Historical & Adventure forums, even if it as unfinished project!
  5. Good call. On the issue of that awesome part, yes I know it has yet to be used. I never thought of the fact that lego has been using their new "one wall piece" (the one with the black lattice window thing) alot... I would hope that that ugly piece doesnt replace the old one... but it may very well be true. I guess I am being a one track mind here and just thinking about Pirate and Castle... I never thought about all the other themes that are missing pieces in the old colours... Like you said. All their is to do is hope that Lego will see how good alot of their old parts are and just make them in the new colors. It would save them $ (less molds)... but it may also risk them saying "well we only need one large wall piece... lets just use the new one!" (which means the piece you had pictured will not be used again). This is why I hope for more lego legends released in Bley. They did it with the airport and it has all of the same pieces... which means reproducing some in the new color. I think Lego Legends in Bley is a good idea... because the only other thing lego will do is just not release anymore period. Its better to have them released in bley than not released at all. Even if you are someone who will never use Bley... you will get all the good NON-BLEY parts out of these sets (although with castle the colour grey was used quite frequently). All we can do is hope.
  6. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1620076 *Sings "Oh happy day"* Oh, and thanks to Tilius for the pic. ;-) About a golden helmet- yes, I would like to see one, but of what I know, there doesnt seem to be any. We are getting a dark green, dark red and red motorcycle/base helmet, it seems. Wow!!! That wall part looks incredlbe! Do we get everything included in that picture - which means a very long wall that almost looks pretty dang good... looks like it comes with lots of weapons and lots of quarter turret pieces! I must say I am pretty impressed by this!!! Thanks for the pic!
  7. Battle of the Pass comes with some, I think one or two. Its obvious from the Toyfair pics. Link me to pictures?? Please.
  8. blueandwhite brings up lots of good points. I always thought that the colour change just meant "well, its just a hording battle now for the old grey". i never thought that any new pieces that would look really good for castles will never be available in classicgrey. I have to disagree with the fact some pieces will never be made for new Bley. I think almost every piece will eventually be made for Bley, except for some minifigures, some weapons(i dont know if we'll see the return of old swords) and some very specialized pieces. We are already seeing the return of old helmets in new grey (the grilled helms are making a return), and in one of the new KK sets it has some of the classic 1/4 Turret wall pieces. And as for older pieces, if lego ever continues making Lego Legends, this means even more pieces will be brought into new grey. I have no problem with this being discussed. I like hearing the views of all of this. I would say it isn't whining it is merely discussing. Most of the points the classicgrey defenders are using are very true and they even say lego was probably better off doing the color change (something to do with the color palette they were using?).
  9. Won't this only go up in cost as the people with ridiculously large collections of Oldgrey start freaking out and buying large amounts of oldgrey to keep their collection at a mighty size? But than again, people like me may consider selling their old grey once more pieces are released in Bley (particularily castle walls and weapons). I actually like Bley quite a bit... although it looks kinda bad with green... maybe I just have to get used to it...
  10. Pretty good deal... pretty good sets... alas... I do not have enough money... and I already have other sets I need to buy!
  11. Roman Army you say Mr Sting? To depict Legionnaire that looked like this? Yes, I know its not a perfect match but it could work okay!
  12. Yeah this guy is an idiot. He has been posting nonsense on many posts... and that Barbie Avatar freaks me out just a little bit...
  13. I am definately going to pick up one or two of these... and I love the big angel of death above Tom Riddle's grave! Any other suggestions? GYLMan - I think I may agree with you. But because I have so little OLDbrown it would be foolish of me to start stock piling it... I guess I'll just have to go for the new stuff - VIKING FORTRESS, HERE I COME!
  14. I think Adventruers were all about the vehicles. I'm trying to think and I didn't like ANY of the Adventurer's buildings really... I liked the Dragon Fortress (who didn't! :'-) ) and thats about it... however, alot of the vehicles were really cool. I think that although more nice vehicles would be cool (most of the Adventurers places needed more rugged looking vehicles since they were in rugged terrain), the Adventurers sets really needed better buildings! Egyptian should have had a huge Pyramid - same size as the Dragon Fortress... the Jungle should have had an Aztek Temple, Dino Island should have just not had buildings period (it should have had a large cargo ship (bigger than the one they already had) that Sinister Sam was using to trap all the dinosaurs and bring them to a park in the city - not exactly a building but I can imagine some of the cool little rooms it could have. And the Orient Expedition already had a good one, but each area could have used somethign - The Indian Palace definately could have been better) But this is leading off the subject - which is a pretty good Adventurers Car.
  15. Now Brickster if they had made a 1920's/1930's Egyptian Town with those buildings (A hotel in particular seems incredibly cool) that would have DEFINATELY made the buildings better. I just think the Pharoahs Temple was kind of dumb for an Egyptian set... the Sphynx was pretty cool... but the rest seemed just TOO open to be tombs... I would love a 1930's Egyptian Townbuilding... that would be incredible!

My main problem is getting good quality. It took me about 50 pictures to get my avatar right... and even than it is slightly blurry. I have patience for quality Mister Phes. So I shall wait.
  17. No. I know all new sets will have the new colors. I know this. i want to know if Lego is planning on changing any of these, or other colors. Like how sure are we that lego won't just switch the greys to another grey in 5 years... Like I said... are any other colors going to change and more importantly how permanent do we expect these color changes to last? I dont want to go out and get lots of Bley and than be told that an even newer grey is coming in! Do you guys think lego will change any other colors? - EDIT - oops. Didnt let you finish your post! 20-30 years is a fair timeline I guess LOL.
  18. Are we 100% sure Lego is going to STICK with the new Grey and new Brown? This is coming from a guy who has only a small (probably a standard drawer-size) full of Old grey and maybe 2 handfulls of old Brown... I want to make sure before I start investing in New-Grey/New-Brown heavy sets if I am going to pretty safe in the future and not suffer a very annoying colour switch.... I know nothings for sure... but I know some people have good insight into this.
  19. Does anyone else think the new Red Armour could be used to make some nice Roman Army MOC's... It could have potential.
  20. Lugnet's 'messageboard' is very time consuming and annoying to navigate. I dont even know what a newsgroup is or anything that Hobbes talked about (Outlook Express is that e-mail program... right? LOL). The site is incredibly important. Its database saved my life and continues to save it. I dont bother reading the news much anymore... the good people here on Eurobricks will post all the best MOCs and we get the news before I hear it anywhere else usually (except maybe that 1000stiene... which is German so I dont even know what 1000stiene means :(). I love this site... I get everything I need here... I just wish the forums were a little more active... this thread wont have another reply for hours... for a computer addict like me... thats too long! Longlive Eurobricks and longlive Lugnet!
  21. I got 83%... A Lesser Captain... not bad... I was hoping I'd do better... its those damn character names... I dont know the name of the monkey or the parrot :( Oh well. 83 is still good.
  22. Wow! Thats cool. I used to know Hieroglyphics! (From a grade 8 History project I took a little too seriously LOL) so I should have been able to check that out!!!! I wish Lego would make a new adventurers theme in Egypt... that'd be cool...
  23. :'-) :'-) :'-) :'-) - All of the armour: ESPECIALLY The Black w/ Chain mail Pattern: Now THATS awesome. I give that armour piece 14 mutant thumbs up, and all the other ones get at least 2 (the red and green look a little silly but I'm sure some people could make it look GOOD. - The return of the classic Grilled Helms : its getting better! This rocks! The sets are looking not bad too... well... actually they look like crap but they have some DECENT pieces now. I pray these sell well so Lego knows to keep getting better.
  24. Aren't Lego selling their sets to kids? I don't know how many kids would want "8 Minifigure Packs" for his Birthday... 90% of kids would rather have the massive castle set. And a simple way to counter this is to have special figures in only certain sets. They did this anyway. You could never get a suit of armor in a minifig pack (you could get it in small sets like Black Knight but thats still a set), a horse, one of the big Great Helms. You would never get those cool horse barding things (i think thats what its called X-D ) in a small set. In Pirates you would never get an admiral/governor in a Minifig pack... Lego can keep the big set desirable by having enough unique figures and pieces. Making the big sets GOOD helps too. People would buy 4 or 5 of 6086 Black Knights Castle even if it only had 2 minifigs because there were so many GOOD pieces in the set. Kids would buy one just for the amazing castle. Of course, it would be retarded to make an $85.00 set and only have a few figures (cough 7894, cough). I can only guess the idea that lego is desperate to make money that they dont want to miss out on any people who WOULD only buy Minifig packs. I am not sure why though... Lego would make a killing on even just 3 Viking minifig pack... and the Star Wars minifig packs would be just ridiculous... paticularily of Rebel, Storm, Snow or Clone Troopers... they would sell like crazy.

Fear not Mr Sting for I have acquired 3 of those heads from an eBay seller, however I'm not sure when I'll have them because of the agreement I have with seller who allows delayed payment so I can win heaps of LEGO to combine postage. I save heaps on postage with way! How soon do you want your signature and avatar? Yes! It is no huge rush. We will discus details after, just make sure when they do come in I have a spot saved - it seems like your Avatar/Signature Business is really picking up!
