OoC: Bricksandparts, the party was under the affects of "Afraid" which causes all members to stand in the back row. "You want a speedy jig? You got it!" Singerson said while dancing feverishly and playing Fastest Flight... Results of Round Two of the Ancient Dragon Battle: Knifk - Apply Deadly Venom Knifk vs. Ancient Dragon - Critical Hit...........[((9*2) + 12) = 30] >Hybros - Apply Deadly Venom >Hybros vs. Ancient Dragon - Hit ................[(10 + 15)/2 = 13] >Guts - Apply Venom >Guts vs. Ancient Dragon - Critical Hit.........[(((8 * 2) + 11) * 2)/2 = 27] >Johon vs. Ancient Dragon - Miss >Johon vs. Ancient Dragon - Damage >Elgar vs. Ancient Dragon - Critical Hit........[(9 * 2) + 10 = 28] >Elgar vs. Ancient Dragon - AIM.................[9 = 9] The battle against the Ancient Dragon continued. The bard's song caused the members of the party to battle faster against the dragon. Knifk applied deadly venom to his longsword then slashed the dragon's snout for a critical strike of 30 damage, sending poison into the dragons head. Hybros followed suite and applied deadly venom to his scythe before hitting the dragon's stomach for 13 damage and poisoning the fleshy skin beneath the scales. Guts followed the same tactic, applying venom to his blade and then shoving his dagger to the hilt into the dragon's foot dealing a critical strike for 27 damage, poisoning the appendage. In his fury, the dragon slashed and missed Johon who jumped into the dragon's second attack to receive 10 damage. While the dragon was distracted, Elgar fired at the dragon's snout dealing a critical strike for 28 damage and then aiming for a precise hit of 9 damage. The dragon's head, stomach and foot were suffering from the poison entering its body and it suffered 21 damage (10 + 10 +1). Singerson strummed the guitar and began to sing Lady Luck's Lure... Results of Round One of the Ancient Dragon Battle: >Knifk vs. Ancient Dragon - Damage/Critical Hit ....[((9*2) + 12)/2 = 15] >Johon vs. Ancient Dragon - Miss/Shield ..............[(8 + 14)/2 = 11] >Hybros vs. Ancient Dragon - Damage/Critical Hit .[((10 * 2) + 15)/2 = 18] >Guts vs. Ancient Dragon - Shield/Miss ...............[(((8 * 3) + 11) * 2)/2 = 35] >Elgar vs. Ancient Dragon - AIM/Damage .............[9 = 9] The battle against the Ancient Dragon began. The dragon was about to deal damage but luck was on Knifk's side and he dodged and dealt a critical strike dealing 15 damage. Johon fought his fear to get to the front row but it was no use. He was about to miss the dragon but luck was with him and he went into a frenzy and dealt 11 damage to the dragon. Hybros used the length of his scythe to still connect with a critical hit, for 18 damage, and avoid the dragon's damage due to his amazing luck. Guts almost missed his target, but the alure of the dragon's hoard, and his team's luck, brought his strike back on target, dealing 35 damage and collecting 35 gold coins in the process. The frustrated dragon lashed out at Elgar to damage at least one member of the team, but his luck held strong and he aimed a perfect shot at the dragon. The combined gem attacks against the dragon shattered it's concentration and the aura of fear dissipated. Guts dug around in the dirt searching for treasure. The ground in the area was particularly hard and he didn't get very deep or find anything of value. Singerson perked up at the indication that someone wanted to know more about the bard. "Of course you can know more about me! I came from a fishing village, the only child of a Tavern owner and his wife. Right next to the tavern was a play hall where actors, singers and performs came to entertain those in port. My father loved taking me there. His favorite play was about a simple family. The father of the family drank tons of ale, the mother strangely had tall blue hair, they had an elder son who always got into trouble and two intellegent daughters. The play was different every week. My father named me after the drunk father character in the play." The bard paused to examine Johon's map. "That is a great map of the quarry! You would make a fine cartographer my friend. The only thing is, you found me and fought the deadly spider, on the left side of your map, where all those dots are. Those dots are representing the rocks you fought between. We are currently heading to the right of your map." The bard continued to chat about the past when the group entered the quarry's lowest floor. It was barren and empty as far as they could see. Singerson suddenly paused in his endless chatter to listen intently. His face went pale as it drained of blood. He started shaking and looked to the skies. "It's...it's...it's a...dra...dra....dragon!" The dragon flew in lazy circles above the group before swooping in quickly and landing in front of them. It titled it's head to examine them then roared its anger. Singerson continued shaking, barely holding onto the guitar. "Not...not only is it...is it a dragon, but it's an ancient dragon! I have studied dragons for a long time, and seen many of them, but never met an ancient dragon before. They are the last stage of the dragon's life cycle. They have lived over 1000 years! They are immune to any type of element due to the years of experience and building up a tolerance. They are extremely powerful. The only hope we have is the fact that it was recently hibernating so it will be weaker than usual. I can tell by it's slightly sluggish movements. This must be the creature that scared the miners away!" PREPARE FOR BATTLE! If you can hit the dragon five times with any gem enhanced weapon than that should disrupt it's aura of fear, and then you all can draw near!"

OoC: I have updated Guts' number of meads. Johon searching for traps with his magnifying class but comes up with nothing. "I only placed the one trap," said Singerson "but searching for more should be a snap!" Johon began picking at the wall in various places but found nothing. Anything of value had been stripped from this area. Singerson turned to Elgar and said "Well met man of the forest, I greet you at your behest. Options, well we can head back to the quarry landing where I assume you turned left to get to this area. Or we can bypass that and head straight to the rest of the quarry. Of course, we could always head back to the entrance. What is your choice my friend who is green, and from adventuring has become quite lean?"

Encourage The Horde - This song causes the encouraged effect on all members of the party for the current round of battle. The effect disappears at the end of the round. This song can be only sung once per battle. “...Sing the song more than once? Why would you do such a thing? Do you not know the bardic law?” A Hearty Jaunt - This song heals all members of the party. The amount each member is healed is determined by a die roll (1-6 hp). This song can only be sung once per battle. “...You ask again about singing it more than once? Let me recite to you the 75 pages of the bardic law. This song is far too sad to be sung more than once in a very long while...” During the battle the Party leader decides the battle order. S/he also can tell the Bard which song s/he would like the bard to sing. If no song is designated, the bard might sing anyways but the songs will have no effect other than your enjoyment. Singerson CANNOT attack or be attacked by any enemy. You do not have to worry about adding him to the order of the party.

"Well...the lore is vague when it comes to 'what' the Forever Song is or what it does, heh, but I know it is a powerful tool the best bard around can't do without! Some rumors say it enhances a singers voice, giving them powers beyond compare or enhancing what powers they do have. Another rumor says that it will generate the loveliest music you've ever heard! Can you imagine? Your very own back-up band! And why would you help me? Is not the thrill of adventure enough? If not, aren't you heroes from Heroica. Don't you dedicate yourselves to those in need? Can I handle myself in a battle? I'll have you know I've seen more battles than you can sing about haha. But no, I don't partake in the physical altercations but I do aid my allies. My songs inspire, enthuse, exhilarate, and can put you in a good mood. So what say you? Shall we join forces and continue searching the quarry?" OoC: Elgar, I have updated your health.

The bard tuned his guitar as he spoke "Not break out in song, thats blasphemous what you speak right there. But a small break to rest my voice and get my guitar in tune is appropriate, I say with a sneer. Ha! I still got it! Anyways, I am a Bard, as you well know, and a master of lore!" Singerson said with enthusiasm. "I'm always seeking more stories to tell and songs to sing. I am currently searching for the components of a mystical artifact called 'The Forever Song'. I had tracked one of the components to this very quarry. I started my search in this outcropping of rocks when I first saw the spider. I set my trap for him but at the same time he was setting a trap for me! I'm very glad you've came to my aid. This quarry seems to be abandoned and I had all but lost hope. I was planning to search the rest of the quarry for the first artifact. Would you like to join me? You could be the muscle and I could compose your epic battle music! Everyone should enter battle with music playing, that just makes sense."

Knifk plays this round strategically, planning for the next round of battle and taking the Sentinel position. Guts came in too quickly against the Giant Spider and slipped on the fluids to Miss his attack. Hybros used the length of his scythe to stay out of the spider's reach yet still deal a critical strike for 34 damage. Johon went into a battle frenzy and in his rage smashed all three spiderlings (20 damage) and broke off one of the Giant Spider's legs for 20 damage. Elgar decided to finish the battle this round and shot three arrows into the Giant Spider's abdomen for 19 damage each. The Giant Spider and the spiderlings turned to dust from the effect of the decay. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! Johon decided to strike the same location as Hybros to deal a critical strike for 34 damage and inflict the spider with decay. In the spider's pain enraged tantrum, it lashed out at Elgar but Knifk's shield blocked the limb. The Spiderlings flung themselves at Knifk, Guts and Hybros but Knifk's shield was ready. The Singerson wiggled his head a little more free before saying "Amazing! Great blow against that spidery beast. I shall aid you in this battle with a hearty song! The heroes have battled the spidery beast! And soon we will all rejoice in a feast!" The bard's song was cut short by a fit of coughing when some of the spider's web got into his mouth. But, his song was effective and all members of the party were healed for 1 hp. "Sorry my song wasn't as great, it will be better once I can use my guitar." Knifk lead the party around the large boulder, being extra cautious to look for traps. When they rounded the corner they saw a man trapped in a spider web stuck to the rock wall. "You're aliiiiive!" exclaimed the man in a sing song like voice. "I was afraid my trap had done you in, the ones who might cut me free of this sin, this sin of webs, which might soon leave me deads," the man continued to sing. "Homer Singerson if you care, bard extraordinaire with much flair! I had set the trap for the eight legged beast but alas I am now to be it's feast! Um...would you mind cutting me down, before I begin to frown?"

The quarry owner watched as the Barbarian ran up the hill to him. When Johon was close enough the quarry owner spoke, "Did your team die already? That was fast." The quarry owner listened to the Barbarian's question and watched as he started to make a torch. "You're not too experienced with quarries are you? Alright, let me explain it this way. A quarry isn't a mine. Mines are shafts or corridors that traverse into the ground. A quarry is a big hole in the ground. Think of it as a lake that has no water in it. That's what we usually do with them when we are done digging. We fill the quarry with water then sell the surrounding property to rich people who then build their lake houses. Here, I'll draw something in the dirt." The quarry owner knelt down into the dirt and drew a crude map. When the quarry owner was finished, he stood up and admired his map. He then said "Alright, that 'X' in the bottom right corner is us. That's where you and your team started. If you stand on any edge of the quarry you can generally see the entire thing. Now your team walked down the path until they came to the landing. That's the path my carts take to get down to the quarry. You're team is currently at the 'T' location on my amazing map. I can see them from here but they are walking toward those rocks. I didnt feel like clearing those rocks out when we started. Now if you..." when the quarry owner looked up he noticed that the Barbarian had already run off to join his party. The party decided to head to the shadowy alcove. They traversed through the maze of rocks and everyone avoided the strange vine, the only sign of life in this quarry. As Johon sprinted to catch up to the group he tripped over the vine and set off a device. An arm swung forward creating a high pitched screech that hurt everyone's ears and caused 3 damage to each hero. As their hearing began to return they heard a faint voice around a large boulder. The quarry owner looked at Elgar with a bored expression then said, "No, no deaths at my quarry, none. Just scared workers that need to get back to work!" The quarry owner kicked the drunk miner for emphasis but the miner was fast asleep. "Well...get to it." stated the quarry owner. He pointed down a path for the group to follow. The path led down into the open air quarry. There were many rocks to be seen. Rocks to the left, rocks to the right...pretty much just rocks. It was a boring landscape of grey. The party came to a landing with two options. They could turn right and head further into the quarry or they could turn left and head toward an alcove of rocks and shadowy areas. OOC: Johon's inventory has been added. Hybros's weapon has been updated. Knifk's power has been changed to 20.
-
The Quarry owner turned toward Johon and addresses him: "Shop? This is a quarry! You can buy some high quality quartz or marble but I only sell them in 10 ton blocks, and you have to buy in bulk so, no orders less than 50. And lend!? I thought I asked for experienced heroes. Doesn't that bar of yours give you equipment?" As Johon picked up and examined the cup, the miner quickly snatched it from his hand. The miner tilted the cup up to his mouth while a few more drops of liquid hit his tounge. He peered into the cup for a second before saying "Hey! Thats my lucky drinkin' cup...hiccup...I see you trying to steals it." The miner again tried to obtain some liquid from the empty cup. The Quarry owner addressed the party again: "Berg is the only miner still around. You can ask him whatever you like although I'm not sure how much help he'll be." OOC: I'm waiting for the other participants before continuing with the quest.

A dusty looking man walked into the hall. He was drunk and wobbling. He blearily looked around before opening a parchment and reading aloud: "Attention...hiccup...heroes of this ...hiccup...great hall. The following heroes have been...hiccup...selected to venture into the Quarry to clean it up nice and good! hiccup" Alf Gregory (Johon) [bricksandparts] Hybros [JimButcher] Elgar Gligin [Jedi master Brick] Guts [scubacarrot] Knifk [bioniclover] - *Party Leader After announcing the names, the dusty miner walked out to a rickety cart used for transporting stones. It actually still had a few stones in it. It would be an uncomfortable ride to the quarry. Attention Heroes of Quest 26: You have 24 hours to check into the quest topic. Feel free to buy any needed supplies at the marketplace or take care of business beforehand.

The cart rolled up to the quarry at a steady pace. The miner had fallen asleep at the reigns sometime ago but the donkey pulling the cart was quite familiar with the route. When the cart stopped, the miner fell out of the driver's seat next to a large boulder. A man stepped forward from the dust made by the cart and welcomed the heroes. "Welcome! Welcome champions from the Building of Herica! I hope you enjoyed the transportation I procured for you. Glad you all made it. Now...go kill the problem scaring my workers. Any questions?" An enchanted fishbone appeared once Sarick finished reading the letter. He began writing on a piece of parchment that fell out of the envelope: To Guts (for the deliverer, he looks like a shady character with a face covering. Drop the letter off and leave immediately or risk being robbed, pick pocketed or stabbed in the back) Guts, I received your letter and assume you will receive this one by the same means. My attempt to complete a quest successfully has failed again. I lead our team 500 years in the past to obtain some family history. We appeared in a hostile environment but survived long enough for the time spell to malfunction and bring us back to the present. I could have used your expertise in deceitful ways because we also faced an assassin. It fled though when we were ripped back to the present. I was, and still am, for killing General Haroka. His magic is perverse and will cause much harm in the future. Keep me posted on any updates. I look forward to teaming up against him. I have not heard of magical creatures that eat minerals...at least none that live on land. There is a slug that lives deep beneath the sea. It stays as close as possible to active magma vents. Not quite sure what it eats but some say it is feasting on the minerals that are spouting from the vents. When I see Nerwen I will send her your regards. What is this 'art of the fist' you mention? I have heard of a special training room somewhere near the hall but I have yet to explore it. Is the 'fist' a technique you plan to learn there? Good luck in the mine and if you face magic users, defeat them quickly before they use their magical tricks. Sarick Lanse, frost mage of the aquatic plains. PS: Everytime I stick this wine bottle into the envelope and close the lid, the bottle appears next to me. I can soak the letter in the wine, but I think that's the best I can do. Sarick tried to recall the magic password to send the letter and said "You've got Scale Mail!" Seeing that nothing happened he scanned Guts' letter again before saying "I've got Z-mail!" and the letter disappeared.
-
Sarick was sitting in the hall when the letter appeared before him. He had not see one of these before and tried to sense the magical aura of the letter. It did not feel hostile but a mage powerful enough to send a letter to him directly could also be powerful enough to disguise any ill magic. Sarick encased the letter in a box of ice with a hole on the side [at the cost of 1 ether]. He stuck his right hand inside the opening and opened the letter. No explosion or trap seemed to happen so he began to read...he looked up and searched for Nerwen. "Hey Nerwen, Guts sends his regardsss." Sarick then went back to reading the letter.
-
Sarick stared at the extended hand for an awkward length of time before saying "Complete some questsss. Help those in need. Prove that you do not have ill intentionsss for this city. Then I will accept the touch of your decaying flesh against my scaled palm." Sarick returned his gaze to nothing in particular, contemplating on the fact that he had actually not completed any quests successfully yet.
-
Sarick was feeling slightly better, but was still recovering from the time travel sickness he had endured. He was in a foul mood and the stench of death did not help. Sarick turned to address the speaker. He flicked his tongue out to taste the air and felt a glimmer of magic from the speaker. "We have never met yet you know my name. You might have heard it spoken in the hall or read it from the list of heroesss so I will let that pass. But you have not introduced yourself nor are we friends yet you presume it is acceptable to borrow my itemsss?" Sarick flicked his head in the direction of the undead. "And you associate with this perversion of life? The Priestess, highest authority of my people, does not suffer the presence of undead in our nation. If you plan to use the healing staff to assist this 'hero', then the answer is no. You cannot borrow the healing staff."
-
"Glad you are safe Nyx and could have easily handled that assassin." Sarick puts his head down on the table for awhile and listenes to the conversations around him. He heard a strange sound and looked up to see his spent phoenix essence on the table in front of him. Sarick grabbed it and stuck it in his pouch. "Phoenix essence: 50 gold. Life experience from battling ancient warriors: Priceless."
-
I do mind if we don't get the XP. You can buy lost items over time but you can't buy XP. I'd feel much better using a phoenix essence and gaining one level rather than staying the same level and regaining my phoenix essence.
