General Discussion and Announcements
Laura Beinbrech replied to Dragonator's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Thanks for the kind words, but I'm a bit of a "Johnny come lately"... Aside from being peripherally aware of the Civilization Fanatics Center Mafia/Werewolf Games forum, I had absolutely no clue what Mafia was even about until about a month or so ago, when I decided to see exactly what was meant by all this "Now Playing as X in Y's Mafia game" or "Lynched as X in Y's Mafia Game (scum)" I'd been seeing around these forums... After looking through a few game threads and Wikipedia's entry on the subject (followed by a trip or two to Mafia Scum wiki), I started following the games because I thought it looked kinda interesting. That almost sounds dirty. Oh, and Shadows: I just read the Prohibition Mafia (all 5 day threads) and was struck by the glaring similarities between it and the Bedtime Story Mafia School game, as well as how similar both you and ChromeKnight played the town in the respective games.... I'm almost wondering if ChromeKnight isn't your secret Sith Apprentice, or something. -

Even though I'm ineligible to participate, I'm definitely going to be following your game, Hinckley! -

While you may be silly, Flipz, I would definitely LOVE to see you and Hinckley get into a TL;DR Play-script post battle. -
Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Conclusion
Laura Beinbrech replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Wow! What a depressing ending! Great game, Sandy, and I must say that the Bag Guy did a heck of a job exploiting the Good Guys' inexperience. Even though I was unable to play, due to RL stuff coming up right when the sign up finally went public, I did follow it as closely as I could. One thing that became immediately apparent by the end of day 2 was that the scum team must have someone who was very experienced. Had I had the time to look up each player's profiles, I would have probably been able to id ChromeKnight as the Bad Guys' "leader", since he had the most experience out of the various people playing. Even without that, I had pegged RPGer (Rapunzel) and JakeJonesPaw (Prince Charming) as likely scum by day two, mainly due to their posting, or rather, lack thereof (particularly lack of useful info). When Red (Kadabra) came out as Cop and fingered Aladdin (palathadric), with Rapunzel and Prince Charming trying to deflect blame on Red, I was about 99% sure he was scum as well.... I was quite disappointed by the lack of a conviction on Day 3, and JaseTJ/DakarA basically giving the game away by breaking the rules on Day 4. I may have to check, but this very well might be the shortest Mafia Game ever played in EuroBricks due to the town's Epic Fail. Granted, had I actually signed up, I doubt I would have been much help either way, due to being extremely busy with RL stuff: Most of the conclusions I came up with were, in fact, only reached on Day 3, mainly because I ended up TL;DRing most of Flipz' posts due to lack of time. Finally, thanks for an entertaining, and well-built mafia game, Sandy.... I especially like the castle you built (and the other sets for Nico's home life). That castle is some epic re-purposing of bulky Belleville pieces and Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle parts! Hopefully when the next Mafia School comes around I'll be able to participate. In the meantime, I'm going to see about joining a Mafia Game or two on Civilization Fanatics Center (a forum I've been an active member of since 2004) so I can get some practice in. I'm really looking forward to seeing how well Flipz does in future Mafia Games here: His plan was just about flawless, except for the fact that he made the mistake of trusting the scum's most experienced player. Good game everybody! This one definitely suited the tone of the Original Grimm's Fairy Tales quite well. I also would love to see a sequel involving Nico's son, and hopefully it will end better. -
Well, like I said on Brickforge, I really like it, Napo! It reminds me of the trading ship that came with the Imperial Trading Post set in 1992. When my brother and I saw that small ship, we were extremely excited because we thought that LEGO was going to introduce a third faction to the pirates line, which would have been super awesome! ...Instead, they released the Islanders, which in retrospect, was one of the major factors of my brother and I going into our dark age (my first and his permanent one) about two years later... Anyways, I like how you decided to expand upon the Imperial Trading Post teaser faction and flesh it out.

As someone who loves to mix and match themes, I really like this. The detail and functionality of the various cars is perfect, so in the spirit of the alien-ness of it, I give this MOC three thumbs up.

MOC: Frostdrageracerbil
Laura Beinbrech replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I love this Ninjago MOC, kinda reminds me of Speed Racer's Mach 5 car... GO, Ninja Racer, GOOOOOOOO! I also like how it looks like its powered by some kind of ice-turbine, thingy. -
Does anyone play brickwars?
Laura Beinbrech replied to Durins Bane's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
While not Brickwars, per se, some of my friends and I did use LEGO to substitute for the miniatures/battlefield/scene parts when playing Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer... Mainly due to the LEGO actually being CHEAPER than the official Games Workshop/WOC stuff. I wouldn't mind giving Brickwars a try (or at least find some people local who would be willing to try LEGO wargaming with the latest Warhammer Fantasy Battles ruleset). -
I thought he looks more like a Warhammer 40K/Starcraft Space Marine....

This is an excellent Diesel/cyber-punk hover bike. I just love the design and how you used the Cavewoman's hair to hold the goggles (which, alas are doing nothing).

Mafia School: A Bedtime Story
Laura Beinbrech replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
No, but I do have two different types of Palm trees and three Citrus trees in my backyard.... IN PENNSYLVANIA. Still, I had to LOL at the carrots on the "Every Fruit Tree", mainly because carrots are ROOT vegetables. ...unless the Every Fruit Tree's "carrots" are the beginnings of aerial prop roots like what Banyan Figs and Pandanus trees put down from their branches... -
Mafia School: A Bedtime Story
Laura Beinbrech replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Well, I've been following this game as well as I can (I'm glad I didn't sign up now, since I would have ended up like Lord of the Fries), and I must say it's been really gripping. Also, in regards to the "Every Fruit Tree," [botany nerd mode]They actually have something like it in Real Life: There are several nurseries that offer 6-in-one fruit trees that have pears, apples, plums, peaches, apricots, and some other type of apples or some such. This is accomplished by grafting branches from different trees onto a single root stock. Since most common temperate fruits, e.g. Apples, pears, peaches, plums, cherries, etc are all in the rose family, they can all be grafted together.[/botany nerd mode]. I'm also looking forward to seeing a full picture of the fairy tale castle when this is done with. -
I just recently got another Isla De Muerte set (making it my third... Hey, that set's only $20 and has lots of useful stuff in it), and I finally got around to buying the London Escape set as well. And yes, for cleaning dirty/dusty LEGO bricks, the best thing is to use a mild detergent and warm (not hot) water with a soft-bristle brush.

Being one of those people who was a kid when the LEGO Pirates first came out, and spending many years pining for the Black Seas Barracuda (the closest my brother and I came was the Caribbean Clipper), I must say that I absolutely LOVE this MOC to death! I like how you kept the overall classic Pirates look while, at the same time, sneaking in some newer elements such as the Dwarf Beard, Hector Barbossa's torso/legs and the Musketeer hat. As for the Captain Roger/Redbeard thing: My brother and I just called him Redbeard and were done with it. As a matter of fact, an unmodified Redbeard was one of three minifigs to survive my first dark age, and he is currently President of the Federal Republic of America (main faction from my LEGO setting)... So you can see how much I liked the old Classic Pirate line.

Dang! Someone beat me to making a pink Cadillac! Yours turned out nice, but I think it would look better with Elvis in the picture somewhere.

Awesome work! This looks like the Star Fury's heavy bomber cousin or something along those lines. Looks wicked cool!

Very Old LEGO Space made with even older bricks.
Laura Beinbrech replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Nice find! The Octan ship looks a lot like a bulky version my Sky Spear long-range fighters, and I dig the Blacktron II ships (I had both Blacktron I and II when I was a kid and was sad that I had to give them away when I was in High School). -
I decided to check this out, and I'm really impressed! THIS is more along the lines of what I picture when someone says "Alien Mothership"! I'm also rather curious why there's an insectoid in the one compartment.... Stowaway perhaps? ;)

The Caribbean Clipper was the first, and only, "large" LEGO ship my brother and I got when we were kids, and I still regret having to give it away when I went into my first dark age during High School.... That said, I really love your "updated" version: It captures the overall look of the original and even adds to the overall design, making it even better than before! Good job, there!

Ooh! I love Diesel punk/Wierd War stuff: It's my favorite genre of Sci-Fi, and your awesome mech definitely does it justice! It looks like something straight outta "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

Mafia School: A Bedtime Story
Laura Beinbrech replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Well, even though RL has prevented me from being able to sign up for this game, I'll be keeping as close an eye on it as I can. For the fortunate ones who were chosen, all I have to say is: Play well and may the odds votes be EVER in your favor! -
Ah, yes, the Bousouzoku (暴走族), I remember them well from my time in Japan. The term means "Violent Running Tribe", and is rather apt. The Yokosuka Bousouzoku, or Bozos as me and my fellow sailors called them, were our arch enemies when on shore patrol duty, mainly due to the fact that they weren't all that concerned about pedestrian safety or knowledgeable about what a crosswalk was. That said, I must say that, aside from the absolutely ridiculous front air-dams on most of them, I kinda dig the look. Kinda reminds me of a Pontiac GTO for some reason. You did a great job capturing the wild look with your creation, too!

HJ Media, I'm sorry I haven't posted a reply here yet, but I really like this idea, being somewhat of a Star Craft and WH 40K fan. I did add my support to this project on CUUSOO about two or three weeks ago, and I'm really hoping it makes it to 10,000 votes! I'll definitely get at least one of those dropships for sure.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to see about signing up for a dropbox account.... Provided they don't get randomly shut down by the government like Megauploads did. That Flickr group looks pretty good too!

As a somewhat fan of Isac Assimov, I love these MOCs... As a matter of fact, part of the backstory for this sci-fi series I was working on in High School was an AI war in the mid-21st century, which resulted in laws being made that required all AI's to be hard-wired with the 3 Rules, which were also known as the "Assimovian Protocol". Your MOCs capture the essence of them quite well.
