LEGO Star Wars Media Discussion - Spoiler Warning!
Darth_Bane13 replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I always thought it was a bad idea for Disney to make so many live action Star Wars shows. It's the same issue with marvel, too much of something and people will inevitably get tired of it; even more so if a lot of the content is mid/bad. I've seen a lot of people say they have "Mando fatigue" which just shows people are not interested anymore; how many times can we watch Din and Grogu go on the same Skyrim style fetch quest? Of course Filoni had to bring back characters like Embo and Zeb aka jangling keys for people who just want to see there favorite glup shitto on the big screen. Since S2 The Mandalorian has had such little substance, it has had to rely on better written characters from better media to make it interesting. -

Yeah both Liam Neeson and Sam Jackson had a lot of big movies after Star Wars which may make some people overestimate how big they actually were at the time. Obviously they weren't obscure but they weren't on Goslings level. -

I'd like to see a Munificent class frigate. Sadly I think the days of larger models are over, for the most part. Take the 2010 Turbo Tank for example - $120 in 2010 = $181 today; factor in the increased detail of a modern set, Lego would probably charge $220 for a Turbo Tank that size. I don't think most parents would be willing to fork over that much for a Lego set, although maybe there would be enough adults to buy it. -

He's a voice actor though so it's not really the same anyways. -

I'd argue Gosling is bigger than Neeson was in 1999, his only big movie at that point was Schindlers List, right? Which granted was a big movie. I'm not totally against Gosling being in this movie, I think he's a good actor but I guess I have a hard time imagining him in Star Wars. Kind of like if Brad Pitt, Leo DiCaprio, or Tom Cruise were to be in Star Wars. -

David Tennant and Forrest Whitaker aren't really big actors, most people don't know who they are. Jack Black just proves my point, him and Lizzo were distractingly bad. The first four you mentioned are fair points, but none of them at the time were really as big as Gosling. Yeah I know big actors have been in Star Wars but Gosling I think is on another level. I guess having lesser seen actors makes it feel more like a galaxy far far away. Part of it is also that the bigger Star Wars actors like Liam Neeson were different because I first watched them in Star Wars as a kid. -

Lego should make a Slave Leia bust as part of their new line. -
Even as a licensed theme fan (mainly Star Wars from 1999-2014), I think the critiques towards licensed themes are very valid. It's perfectly reasonable to dislike a product that morphed into something completely different to what it was originally.
-
I don't think it's nostalgia, it was great time for fans of all different kinds of Lego. You had unlicensed themes like Fantasy era Castle, Pirates 2009, Space police 3, Power Miners, Agents, Bionicle, all existing alongside the licensed themes I previously mentioned. I don't how a Lego fan wouldn't be pleased with the selection of sets in the late 2000s, unless you're some purist classic fan of Lego. I do think the acquiring of more licenses eventually led to downfall of the unlicensed themes, I just think the 2000s were a sweet spot where they had some licenses but not too many. Nowadays it seems like literally every somewhat popular movie/show gets a Lego set, it has turned into an overpriced pop culture collector brand. I can't deny that acquiring Star Wars in 1999 did start a chain reaction that eventually led to modern day Lego.
-
I think the 2000s licensed themes like Star Wars, Harry Potter, SpongeBob, Batman, and Indiana jones, coexisted very well alongside the unlicensed stuff. In my opinion, they were just as good toys as the classic themes. It really only became a problem in the 2010s when licensed stuff essentially replaced the classic themes.

I don't know, I didn't claim they were. @Karalora did. There are many historical accounts of cannibalism, here's one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyd_massacre The old pirates sets were before my time so I don't have much knowledge of them, I only remember 2009 pirates. I'm just saying these cannibal stereotypes are based in truth, even if not every islander was a cannibal. Never thought I'd be talking about cannibalism on a Lego forum Exactly.
-
The stereotypes exist for a reason, cannibalism happened and is well reported throughout history.
-
Not funny. This is literal cultural appropriation.

I literally would not care at all if a Chinese toymaker did that, it actually sounds pretty funny. There is literally nothing I'd object to being made into a toy, unless it was sexually explicit or something. If a toy company wants to make caricature of Americans then they should. I doubt most Maori people actually cared about this.

Well, he certainly acts like one Imagine being offended over Bionicle's. Honestly I don't even care if people are offended, I think kids having a fun toy is more important than a few Karen complaints.
