Quitting LEGO - Suggestions for departure sets.
Dovchenko replied to Dovchenko's topic in LEGO Pirates
Everyone's going to disagree with me on this one, I know it. But I feel like it's very important... ...seeing as my first set WAS King Kahuka (giving it away), I just can't resist getting all of the ISLANDER sets. This is a HUGE leap from the Imperials, I know. But they were originally my idea of departure sets. However, I also would enjoy having some pirates. With the Islanders, you get an obnoxious amount of rowboats, and no offence, this doesn't make much of a force. So, I found two good lots with the RR and the... SES! Making it: Enchanted Island Forbidden Cove King Kahuka's Throne Crocodile Cage Islander Catamaran King Kahuka (rebuying because I'd like the all MISB.) Skull's Eye Schooner Renegade Runner 8 Lovely Sets, though expensive, I may try to collect them anyway. I get 10$ a week from chores, and though that's no enough, perhaps an actual second job would get me those sets quickly. I take extremely good care of my sets, washing them in seperate pieces (unless they're huge, then I seperate them into "sections") and displaying them. Felt/non lego pieces are inspected and washed, of course. -
No matter how much I wish to admit, the ED isn't really the "fort to end all forts". The fortress is somewhat smaller than first expected, and certainly wouldn't really show up on the map compared to the ITP... But who says it's bad? Smaller = Tighter Security. With the ITP, unfortunately, pirates can come and go as they please. Nothing's stopping them from going into a shop and stealing gold/grog. For such a large fort, the ITP doesn't have enough cannons for its size... and the though EF had the same amount, they were set in great places where ships would take the most damage. Due to its smaller size, the EF is easily armed to the bone- with heavy amounts of muskets, cutlasses, gun pivots and hidden stashes, even going by it could possibly be a suicide mission. As for just cannoning the port, I suppose it wouldn't last long- but name one port that would against a heavy pirate ship! (Besides, also due to the fact that soldiers wouldn't have as much to monitor, they could spot the danger within a shorter time and prepare themselves/flee/whatever. Smaller = Easier to Store. Moving away with plotlines and security, the set itself is much more mobile and much easier to store. It's only on one baseplate, while the ITP is on two which is liable to break off. It's not very fragile from what I guess, and can easily be re-arranged for travel. The ITP on the other hand is massive, with several small buildings and a dock, along with two ships. No matter how much I would like to have this set, I have to admit the EF would be easier along the lines of transportation. This also ties in with "durability"- the EF has one crane, while the ITP has more. They aren't so strong, you know... Smaller = A Better Build. The ITP is my one and only dream, and in my opinion, it's unbeatable... even by some of the larger ships. However, the Eldorado fortress has much bulkier buildings- more secure, and only 100 bricks less or so in the main scheme of things. The ITP has slightly less "heavy" buildings, and more small shops and homes. Eldorado Fortress is by far the most bulky, and I salute it for that. If these reasons don't at least alter the opinion, ye haven't had enough grog. |-/ NOTE: I STILL LOVE THE ITP BETTER DUE TO SEVERAL FACTORS IN WHICH IT BEATS THE EF. (everything seen here is in personal opinion)

What is more popular- Blue Coat or Red Coat? I have looked at both (blue extensively) and I would rather do the one that- well, isn't collected by everyone else. I like the Blue Coat ship more, and the EF and ITP are extremely even. -
I voted for having a different perspective. The Eldorado Fortress is a smaller fort- it's not like some huge castle or anything. But still, it is a beautifully crafted and well made set which belongs in anyone's LEGO collection. Against the BSB and other ships, I'd say it's a formidable challenge if not an impossible endeavour. Because of the smaller size of this fortress, our navy soldiers can arm it to the teeth and have less to watch over. Security is practically unbreachable, and with so many supplies, walls, powerful weaponry and of course the supreme navy which supports it, I think some pirates would resign. Now try this... The Eldorado Fortress, The Lagoon Lockup and the Caribbean Clipper. That would be a beautiful combination. I'm getting ideas! How about that with the RR... Don't mind me.

I don't know, I don't really want to go through the trouble. No offence. EF is the set I've wanted first. RIF is okay, as well as LL, IO, CC and RR, but that's the main one I want. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Pazzo&itemID=8043947 Sounds like a good deal to me. I'd get it MISB, but it runs for 800$. |-/ Caribbean Clipper looks good too, maybe I'll consider. -

It gets cheaper, but with sometimes unpromising quality. I can help you find some if you want, IS. To be honest, the suggestions sound wonderful. So far, I have an "alright" idea of what I should get: Eldorado Fortress Caribbean Clipper Lagoon Lock-up Renegade Runner (good pirate set, if possible not a base/big ship. Maybe a smaller base like the Lagoon Lockup is.) Then little stuff, like rafts, rowboats and stuff. Then I'll keep them as a "final gratitude". :P Of course, I'll still probably post on here, designing stuff on MLCAD. -

That would have been a great idea, and I tried. Nope, 300 apiece. Besides, Eldorado was my original idea (not that yours wasn't good or anything). It grows on ye. :-$ -

There's no set amount, I just don't want to spend so much money. I may just buy 3 sets or so, or I may splurge. 3 is good because of size and stuff, but 6 is also cool. I want to get Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, and a few other games. These cost alot of money. 300$ at the most over a period of time, though I know it's unlikely I can stay within that limit. I may just get: Eldorado Fortress Caribbean Clipper Renegade Runner -

It's alright, TY for suggesting. Rock Island Refuge looks neat. Maybe I'll look into it... besides, I'm buying them over time. I just want to have them before my 15th B-day. So far: Eldorando Fortress Imperial Outpost Armada Sentry Caribbean Clipper Renegade Runner (fill in blank) Then, I'll just get a few little sets to accent and I'll be done. -

Forbidden Island's okay, but no offence, you don't get many pieces and it's really airy. In my opinion, of course. And would you look at what I found! http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Brick_Qc&itemID=8890862 If only I could get a babysitting job. The Eldorado Fortress, Lagoon Lockup, Caribbean Clipper, Black Seas Barracuda. Of course, I'll get some smaller sets to go with them over time. These are the four big ones. -

I like the idea, but I'm not neccesarily going blue coat. The fortress is a #1 priority, and I'm not sure how much I'd want to buy after that. True- Sabre Island is extremely expensive, running 60 dollars apiece from where I sometimes buy. I was thinking of having: Fort Eldorado Caribbean Clipper (pirate?) No matter how much I want to, I have insufficient funds for the larger ones, such as the Barricuda. But there are no notable evil ships other than these, from what I know. For Eldorado and Caribbean Clipper confirmed, I guess. I just like them. Just to spice things up. But of course, having those may not be such a bad idea as well. -

It's a bit of a problem there. Firstly, I haven't been in pirates that long. I was born in 1994, and though I did once collect King Kahuka, I like the guard guys. But I may just buy the fort with the CC, then perhaps a large enemy ship. I really don't know, and if someone could come up with a list of things, that'd be dandy. Eldorado is neat, but the Imperial Trading Post is also in mind. (EDIT: TOO EXPENSIVE ON BRICKLINK). Dunno, I like the blue shirted soldiers. I tried out collecting Life On Mars, then Bionicle, but none of the things of my time appealed to me. So the immediate past is the only place to really look. -
I don't want to spend too much money on LEGO Pirates, there's video games and other crap. Besides, after an 8 year run, I'm moving on and getting a few old sets before my departure. No doubt I will always love LEGO, and if I have a kid, LEGO. So long as the sets stay good. I was thinking of, over a period of time, buying: Eldorado Fortress Caribbean Clipper Sabre Island Harbour Sentry (X2). I was just wondering what you all thought of my choice- whether I should get more, or whether I should just get these. I don't want a big huge tub full of bricks again, but I want enough to remember it by. And of course, I guess I'll stay on the forums for a little while.
