It would not spread, and Gabriel's life was saved, but the HQ was lost. The party was back outside in the rain.   11. Vindsval makes a great effort. Some of his golden magic even reaches Gabriel as he reaches over, but not much. But Vindsval's thrashing in the giant heap of burning debris triggers a chain reaction. The knocked over pillar caves into a wall, spraying more burning rock onto the half born. The half-born crushed some of the rubble, and even made a net gain in progress due to his efforts, but his movements undid some of his work. Gabriel was still trapped, and smoke was beginning to cloud everyone's vision. He is forced to retreat, strained and burnt. "Are you insane?! It's an inferno! You're lucky you didn't just get crushed... Make any last minute preparations, because we can't just wade through this. We need to dismantle it, snuff it out." QM Note: Expect a battle soon - Arx's ice breaths and Vindsval's attempts have made the impending trial easier..
  12. "They're still in the damn building!" says the Syndicate member, panicked. The members freeze as Arx spews his icy breath. "I think you just bought Masson some time. Listen, that was good work, but the building is too far gone. We're just trying to contain it, stop it from spreading out there. You need to go in and extract Masson and Gabriel." "Fire bore a hole right in the building, and it looks like that dragon's ice breath made it an easy path through. Go, all of you, quick!" The party runs into the HQ. Fire roars, consuming the walls, tearing down the ceiling and pillars as it eats away everything. Tendrils of red and orange illuminate the place, smoke escaping through holes in the roof the fire burned. The party stumbles thorugh the inferno, until... Masson and Gabriel desperately try to dismantle the fiery barrier separating them. Both were afraid, covered in sweat. Those who hadn't seen Masson in a while note that he lacked an arm... The man in purple, Masson turns towards them. "What are you doing here, it isn't..." "You're gonna reject help, when I'm about to get roasted alive?!" Shouts Gabriel over the roaring flames. "Think this through for a-" The ceiling burns. A burning pipe is dislodged, nearly red hot from the flames. A couple inches more forward, and it would've crushed Gabriel's skull. It scalds his back instead. "Agh! Fucking HELL!" exclaims Gabriel, clutching the burn point, face contorted in anger and pain. "We need to get through all of this rubble. We need to get him out of here, or... He'll die."
  13. "O-O-Okay, Karie, s-stay safe...!" The party rushes to the smoldering HQ, following the plume of smoke. The wind carries the fire's embers. Masked members of the Syndicate carry buckets, rushing to the fountain and back, trying desperately to douse the fire. A legion of fire stands defiant against the storm, undeterred by the downpour. The bucket line was making little to no progress, despite their urgency. Bits and pieces of the HQ had already collapsed - windows broke, walls buckled, roofing burnt and fell. The remaining structure was beginning to crumple in the roaring wind. A golden member of the Syndicate steps out of the line, gasping for breath, panic in his voice. "You here to help?!"
  14. The Peon pointed a shaky hand towards the sky. To the East they could see a plume of smoke rising up, but the storm's winds were punching the cloud of black and dispersing it. Nevertheless, the location of the burning base was evident.
  15. The poor girl stammers as she speaks, her hands shaking, trying to get the words out. "I w-work for these law enforcers, the Syndicate... A-and the base... it got... it got... It was struck! By lightning! The HQ is burning down, and... And my boss, Masson, and his brother are still in there!"

It had begun to pour, each raindrop making an audible splash as it shattered on the ground. The water was rapidly pooling up in the city streets, threatening to accumulate as the downpour became more and more torrential. The party begins to head to the Albatross Inn, where they would meet the Proggs. However, a frenzied young woman runs into them first, wearing white and red garbs soaked by the rainwater. "Help! HELP!"

Dragonlord cringes as another bolt of lightning strikes, and pulls out two dark blue envelopes. He hands one to each newcomer - One for Vindsval, one for Arthur and Miirym. "I'm not the only one writing letters. These popped up just as I drafted the request to get you fellows on here. It seems our prophetic friend is either watching, or knew this was coming." Would the recipients open their letters? "Now, if you all are clear on our path to victory here, head out. You have a city to save."

I checked with Sandy before doing this, so I'm not just doing this out of the blue here. 147 was delayed for a full month to give those quests time to let out (they didn't, but hey, stuff happens!), but this was the alternative. It's not a situation that will come up often. Besides, with how many plotlines characters are entangled in and how long quests have gotten, QMs kind of have a duty now to remain flexible.
