  1. This goes to verify what I said, not only is this dude great in his own right, but he’s also great fodder for Figbarfing.
  2. I would love an entire CMF series dedicated to Pirates and on to Castle too. I suppose they could have one for Space too, although personally less interested in the latter.
  3. Josh is a funny guy. I loved the video he did with Emmasaurus and ShyTime ranking the Creator Expert Modular’s.
  4. 6235 was my first Pirate set and also my first non City set.
  5. I made a mistake, the trapdoor above jail is in the Forbidden Island set.
  6. Depends on what classifies as a play feature. Caribbean Clipper, Blackseas Barracuda and pretty much every ship had retractable anchors. The 1992- 1997 ships all had working compasses, and the OG 92 Impeial Flagship and Skulls Eye Schooner had their rudders attached to their steering wheels and the former could be moved by turning the latter. However, more in line with what you’re talking about, Skull Island had a trapdoor that dropped a minifig into the jail bellow and Redbeard Runner had a feature where the mast could be knocked over to represent battle damage.
  7. Thank you for the nice review. I already planned to get this set but now I will definitely buy it.
  8. As long as they’re not too dissimilar to the 2015 batch I’m good. Yes these could be better, but I can live it.
  9. How bad do you think the Blue Coat torso are compared to the 2016 batch? I'm planning on using 2016 as one regiment and 2023 as another, probably cannoneers and riflemen respectively. I'll still field them side by side, but if difference in appearance is great it will be a pain on the #$$, bit at the end of the day it's a first world problem.
  10. Brown, historically, is colour that is more prone to breaking. Every brown cannon I had as a kid had broken clips, and not a single red cannon broke.
  11. An extension of that concept would be fantastic. It’s a really good set as far as I can tell and it’s on my shopping list, Eldorado and the Viking Village come first though.
  12. So is this definitely a North American thing only? The reason I ask is because we have Target in Australia, and back in the early noughties Target Australia ran a GI Joe exclusive that the North American stores ran. Of course the North American Target and Target Australia my have distanced themselves in the almost twenty years since. Either way I’m getting this, even at an inflated aftermarket price if needs be. It just too cool not to own.
  13. My dark ages lasted quite longer and only ended with the release of PoBB, although I did purchase a LEGO City construction vehicles about six months prior. There were times I did consider getting back in along the way and would stop and admire the LEGO from time to time.
  14. Those catalogues provided me with hours of joy. I’d spend so much time looking at the exquisite layouts, dreaming of creating something similar one day. LEGO was such a huge part of my life until the age of about 14 in 1996 when I entered my dark age, and when I wasn’t building terrible, terrible MOCs only a kid would be proud of, playing with my Clipper, Renegade Runner, Eldorado Fortress and Lagoon Lockup, I would be looking at those catalogues. I’d ogle them for hours until they’d fall apart, around such time text year’s version would be out. I would love it if LEGO did make those photos available either as posters, or bettter yet a hard back photo book. The photos in this thread are lovely and remind me of those catalogues so much.
  15. He is a very, very good minifig in his own right as well as great fodder for Figbarf ing. However, I personally think that the POBB iteration of Captain Redbeard takes the moniker of best LEGO Pirate, at least in my eyes anyway.
  16. I think I’m going to use this torso as a merchant for the cutter that comes with the new Eldorado Fortress with the head from the Fire Command Truck that belongs to the workman and one of the pony tail Tricorn hats. The head has two prints, one with a scared face, which would be perfect to represent the terror he’d be feeling being boarded by pirates.
  17. This is a nice ship, kudos. I’d consider using the black versions to make the Iron Ram moc I’ve been considering making for some time but there’s just too much red for a Blue Coat ship. I know there is a black and dark bley hull but that doesn’t come with centre pieces.
  18. Looks like I can enter digital renders. Obviously I missed that the first time reading the first post.
  19. I may do an updated clipper to enter the competition with. I'm going to design it digitally pretty soon. If I can purchase all the bricks and pieces I need before the closing date I'll enter the comp. However, I'd imagine renders can't be entered, only physical models, so if I can't buy the bricks by then I won't enter. If I cant enter I will post pics of the renders in the MOC forum instead for fun. And when I end up building final model out of bricks I'll post that too. Edit: of renders aren't permitted, can I enter with an out of completion entry, disqualified from obataing the prize? It would be fun to enter the comp anyway and take part in the fun.
  20. Okay, how many people think I would be crazy trying to do an updated Clipper and updated Barracuda that are more ore less as they were back in day in both size, appearance and form to go along with this set just using more upadated techniques and pieces? I’m at the point where I’m actually considering tiling and otherwise upgrading the ship from POBB to be on the same level as the fantastic Redbeard’s House on Skull Island by @Massenzio and Lagoo Lockup Revisted bu @SleeplessNight, both of which I was thinking building quite detailed displays around with clear tiles for the water and such, and was thinking I would like something a little closer to what the originals were like to display with this on my shelf. I’m even considering designing an upgraded Forbidden Island and/or Rock Island Refuge too. On the flip side I’m also considering designing a huge Eldorado Fortress moc that is as detailed as what the two designers I just mentioned have made theirs sets. Actually that sounds even more insane the the clipper and Barracuda MOCs. Edit: Of course, the other option is to painstakingly restore these two ships via the usual second hand sources like eBay an/or Bricklink.
  21. I’m thinking of using this head for Broadside https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260976674460 and this one for Lt de Martinet https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330681621553. .
  22. As a kid I figured that Blue Coats and Red Coats were of the same nation. However, after returning to Lego after a 25-30 year Dark age, I now see them as being two separate nations, based on the French and the British respectively. The fact there’s a simplified Fluer Di Lis on the Blue Coat flag has me thinking that have been Lego’s intent. I also see the Musketeer CMF as being part of the Blue Coat nation, albeit that they’d not likely end up in the colonies as I see them as a bodyguard type unit for the Monarch. If I ever decide to explore the Europa sub theme as a concept, then Blue Coats from the Pirate range will appear alongside Musketeers.
  23. I'm thinking the Pirate wench is an alternate Lady Anchor with a different torso print. Your thought?
