Starting to wonder about the $500 set. Hasn’t been any news. Delayed perhaps? -

I mean, odds are it's still Marvel. And What would a $500 bat-vehicle look like? I mean...the '89 Batmobile was $200. Even accounting for inflation, maybe $250. Not sure how much bigger they can go or even what they would do (and before anyone says anything, no, we are not getting a $500 '66 Batmobile.) -

Yeah I don’t see how you do both for less than like $600. Even that might be a stretch. -

Agree on the Batcave, disagree on Arkham. The exterior of the Arkham sets has been very minimal and pretty boring. A $500 fleshing-out of the Asylum would be very welcome if accompanied by a trove of minifigs. They had a Daily Bugle that was essentially just a facade before, in the same manner of the old Arkham sets, and that didn't stop them from going back and doing a far more detailed version. Hall of Justice would be an insta-buy for me, but I'm not sure it needs to be $500. Perhaps I'm wrong. Having a hard time visualizing it. -

I had the same thought. After all this talk of "the DC theme is dead" (which I have also been saying), I've ensured I'll be dead wrong in the most embarrassing way possible: the biggest DC set yet. My heart says Marvel because, well, Marvel. But all the little things like timing with other Marvel sets, the lack of DC sets so far, and lack of word on a 2022 D2C Batvehicle have me wondering... Anyways, I look forward to building Avenger's Tower -

The problem with the Batcave (and why I suspect we've never truly gotten a comprehensive one) is that what makes it recognizable as the Batcave is large amounts of empty space. For a $400 set, you'd expect quite a lot of pieces, and if you have a large amount of pieces coupled with a lot of open space, the set's total footprint would be quite large. Look at the '66 Batcave, it's just three desperate pieces that if you squint while looking at kind of make it look like the Batcave. And it still cost $250. You could do the manor above it, but I would think unless it's gonna be a $600+ set that you'd only be able to do the first floor. I don't see how you do both the cave and manor and do them well at the same time without making it very, very expensive. I think the easier thing to do is go the Arkham route. I'd love to see them do a BTAS Arkham. The interior is never really shown in any great detail, so you can kind of do what you want when designing it, and you could have "The Trial" room as a reason for including a large amount of villain minifigs. Or just an Arkham that isn't linked to any specific media, like they did with the Bugle. Great excuse to have a ton of minifigs, a vehicle or two, and a lot of easter eggs. -

The longer this goes on, the less sure of it I become. I would have put my money squarely on Avenger's Tower a few months ago, but now that there's still no word and the Hulkbuster is still theoretically coming around the same time, I don't know. Seems odd to have three Marvel D2C's in the back half of the year. I would think it's not a helicarrier because it seems rather boring and too expensive for that, but at $500 anything of minifig scale is gonna have to come with an absolute boatload of minifigs after how many they put in The Bugle. The Promobricks list has gotten one or two backwards, so it's *possible*. Maybe like 5% chance lol, which is ironic because I can think of far more $500 ideas for DC, but we all know LEGO isn't putting out a $500 DC set. -

Yeah the difference between the DC and Marvel themes is clearly mechs. Marvel has ~25 sets this year according to Brickset, depending on how you want to count them (I didn't include mechs which would make it 29). DC has...wait for it...one set, and that set barely counts as it's a polybag that released on the first of the year. I guess two sets if you're counting the art set. Lego doesn't need to "sell the license" or whatever but we do have to accept the theme is probably going to go the way of Harry Potter and go on hiatus for a while, with the very occasional Batman or movie-tie in set. We don't even have a sniff of a rumor of DC sets outside of a delayed movie tie-in and 4+ set. Pretty safe to say they've exhausted the well of bat-vehicles and don't much care to do comic-based sets. I mean, even the Marvel ones are pretty much all mechs or MCU based. I've said it before but I think short of *maybe* a '66 batmobile that LEGO is out of things they can do for D2C's. And even that is pretty niche. My dream set is a comic-accurate Arkham in the mold of the Daily Bugle set, with the entirety of the bat-family and a healthy selection of the rogues. It won't happen, but one can dream. -

LEFO is only going to produce sets based on popular characters driven by outside media. If the MCU had never taken off, the Marvel theme would probably only be Spider-Man in the same way DC is largely just Batman. But Marvel has found a way to popularize its other characters, while DC and Warner Bros. have largely just taken swings and misses in with the DCEU (at least in terms of making their characters into household names). As much as I’d love sets based on other characters, I understand why LEGO is doing what it’s doing. What’s curious to me is that even Batman seems to be largely dead as a theme. At this point last year we had the ‘66 Batmobile and fairly solid rumors that the Tumblers were coming. This year there’s nothing on the D2C front. -

As people have pointed out, the diorama’s provide a good opportunity for sets, but I have a hard time thinking of specific scenes they could base anything off (assuming that they’re only interested in doing Batman). Maybe Joker going into the chemicals from Killing Joke? The rest of that comic is too dark for LEGO to touch. Maybe the fight at the end of the Dark Knight Returns? I think something like “The Trial” from BTAS would be really cool. Even the shark scene from Batman ‘66 would be funny. -

We aren't getting a $300 DC set. At best we're getting a '66 Batmobile in November but even that I'm skeptical on. As I've said prior in the thread, they've already re-used a set from a few years ago, and I don't think the '66 Batmobile is particularly popular among anyone outside hardcore Batman fans and people who grew up with the show. I suspect the latter, if not both of those demographics, are too small to target for a $200+ set. Batman '89 is one thing, Batman '66 is a who other world. In an ideal world we would obviously get some sets based on other properties but if they're going to stick with Batman I would love to see some BTAS sets. They could do a really cool large comic-based Arkham set like The Bugle, with some Easter eggs of BTAS like the Christmas tree or the trial. Would also love a D2C BTAS Batmobile but it may be a little to similar to the '89 one. I'm just spitballing as I sit bored at work. -

Lol what from the past month would lead you to believe that given a choice Lego would go with DC over Marvel for that pricey of a set? -

I mean, that's when we got the Bugle. So maybe? I would think we'd start seeing rumblings pretty soon though if that's the case. -

*IF* (and that's a big if) that $210 set is DC, it's very interesting. Very early in the year for a D2C Bat-vehicle, but very expensive to be anything non-Bat related considering how little faith Lego has in other DC properties. Having a hard time envisioning what this would be. Perhaps the Tumbler isn't selling well and they're moving this years forward? -

I suspect that's a Batmobile that would sell really well at that scale but not as well at a D2C size. I own the small one but would definitely pass on a bigger one. That's just me though, obviously I don't speak for anyone else. -

Even then, I think it's telling that they went back and re-released a set from not that long ago with no significant updates before doing a '66 Batmobile. I think they've exhausted the list. -

Yeah it's definitely not. I would certainly place my money on Marvel, but I don't think it's 100%, especially with a D2C Hulkbuster coming. My "based-on-no-evidence-whatsoever" theory is that they've exhausted the D2C Bat-vehicles and have to find something else to fill the gap. -

It won't. There are going to be some really awkward pauses where they knew the audience would be cheering, particularly when Andrew and Tobey show up. Between that and how obvious it is that Ifans and Hayden-Church never were on set, I think this one's gonna fall apart a bit on rewatch. It's gonna be very obvious how it's a movie of spliced ideas. That being said, still way better than FFH. -

It's absolutely carried into "enjoyable" status by Dafoe. If it weren't for him, the movie wouldn't have even been decent.
