She truly is beautiful mate! The lines are so smooth! What year is she meant to be launched in?

She is a beautiful ship mate. Well done!

Wow, excellent work! She is coming along great! The stern gallery is especially nicely done (I feel really wrong now for once saying that it seemed too big ).

In my opinion, the second one looks better, but I'm the kind of guy who likes subtlety. The 18th century French (ahem, Bluecoats, rather) on the other hand liked to impress. So you probably should go with the first one.

Yes, they galleries do look better from that angle- and I suppose that it'll all fit perfectly once you put in the poop. She actually reminds me a lot of the Hermione being built in Rochefort.

I am drooling... This is a beautiful ship- the bulkheads for the officers' quarters are especially impressive from a detail standpoint. The construction of the bow is excellent, and your plan for the stern is spot on for a first rate. She truly is a ship without equal!

Very Nice! I agree that you shouldn't tile the hull- she looks great just the way she sits. However, the stern galleries do look a little oversized- though it may just be the angle of the photos. What do they look like from the stern?

[MOCPages Find] Randolph Rosenbacher's HMS Victory
Horatio replied to dr_spock's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow, this is an impressive find. The red gunports are a little distracting (no Nelson cheque!) but the detail on the decks more than makes up for it! The bow especially is quite interesting. -
Very nice work! She definitely has a strong armament!
-
Excellent work! She is coming along nicely, though you may want to taper off the poop a bit more- she looks a bit wide back there. Also, do you plan on using different gauges of block on the fore- and mizzen masts?
-
Ah, that is even more interesting! I grew up in Central New York, so it's always good to see thoughtful historical representations. Ever thought of trying to set them up with lacrosse rackets?

Very clever! It's always good to see the little things that you come up with! Also, is that a giraffe on board that I see?

Actually, uniform parts were often traded for with the colonists and local soldiers. By the way, is the gold medal on the leader meant to represent a gorget? Because if so, great job!

Your fleet sure is impressive! I especially admire the redone gingerbread work on the Achille. Do you suppose that you will build any more ships in the near future? Your fleet admiral will surely need a ship of the line to command from!

Oh wow, I hadn't paid attention to that one- I'm surprised that people were fine with that. I was only speaking from experience in an organization that I had been a part of that facilitated representation of local Native Americans- maybe it was only a local thing though. It is interesting though to think about protagonists and antagonists in the theme, because I never saw any one group as good or bad- especially in the 2009 revival.

Wow. One word really comes to mind when looking at her, and that would be clean. She looks so neat and tight- dare I even say, ship shape. Is she based off of the HMS Trincomalee? At any rate, I can't wait to see her fully rigged. Also, did you put wire in the tubes so that they would hold their shape more easily?

I'm not so sure about any inclusion of "islanders". Thing is, companies have to be a lot more PC nowadays, so LEGO would probably sidestep a theme about indigenous peoples all together.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Horatio replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Apparently Disney in all of their wisdom is making a fifth movie : http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/pirates-caribbean-5-delayed-beyond-625570 It would be interesting if they decided to use the HMS Surprise again- as far as I know the ship is just still sitting there. Only issue is that they wouldn't do any kind of sea battles with a rented ship (which is why they bypassed a battle in the fourth movie). Anyway, the release date is far enough away that there could probably be a revival in the sets. Imagine if they DID use the Surprise, and made a set out of that! -
I haven't been able to do too much in the past few months, considering that right now my ship is 500 miles away while I am at school, but here are a few images of her as she sits now. I still have to figure out a good way to fix the quarter galleries. I almost want to use three windows instead of the two, but that would take a good bit of maneuvering. The roofing could possibly be done with a few slopes, but I want to keep the shape of the current piece that I have there- the 2x6 that curves in two directions- any suggestions on a good replacement? I'm just not seeing a good fix. And of course here is a straight on bow shot. I'm generally pleased with the shape, but what do you all think? Is it too angular and blocky? At least she's come this far- the other day I came upon the first pictures that I took a few years back- this is how she used to look: Of course that was several designs ago- really a different ship. But still the spiritual predecessor. Anyway, what do you think? I might invest in some 2x2 round brown bricks for the masts, because I'm not sure if I completely am settled with the white. Plus, Christmas will come around soon enough

English warship "Revenge" from 1577 in minifigscale 1:50
Horatio replied to maydayartist's topic in Pirate MOCs
This is truly a beautiful ship. I could find no flaws in her- she is perfect! -
That's pretty neat! How did you attach the knees for the kneeling soldiers?
-
Very nice, I can't wait to see more pictures! What do you plan to do for cannons?
-
I have made some progress recently, so here are a couple of teasers until I can get some better pictures.
-
Beautiful! I have taken a bit of a hiatus, but after looking at your shrouds, I think that I might pull out some string and try myself. Now, did you use hot glue for the ratlines, or are they actually tied?

Sorry that it's a little late, but I have to congratulate you on such a fantastic model. It's actually not surprising that so many people thought that she was a set, because she looks professionally built (imagine the price tag on her if she was a set though! ) You've done a great job though, and I can't wait to see her fully rigged!
