  1. Looks like it was inspired by the 2004 TV series LOST. Very interesting though- nice find!
  2. 'Merca! She looks great- it's nice to see some mid- 19th century ships sometimes. Also, you seem to be a builder who knows what they're doing- can't to see the end product! Is that a powder magazine down on the orlop that I see?
  3. Nice! Your cannons are nice, and the headrails are perfect so far. Also, the broadside looks excellent. Does she have an interior?
  4. Well, I've completely destroyed the hull below the waterline, and rebuilt it from the keel up. For the most part, I've modeled her after the Cutty Sark seen here: Cutty Sark I don't have enough slopes to build the whole hull this way, but I think now she at least is smoother below the water line. I also increased her beam to around 24 studs.
  5. It's been a while since I last did work on the frigate, but after watching a few episodes of Hornblower, I decided to do some work. First, I altered the stern below the waterline, so that rather than having the hull curve towards the skeg, it's more like the hull tapers up to the stern. Also, here's a picture of her bow- I know she looks a little narrow, but she's about as wide as she is tall amidships. Looking aft. Also, I forgot how to make images smaller- if someone could help me with that, I'd greatly appreciate it. Sorry that they're so large.
  6. She really looks great- especially in the flesh (or, brick, rather). Out of curiosity, were you able to figure the price, if this was a set?
  7. Actually, the brown hull pieces would be below the waterline. I think that you should add a brown keel on the bottom- then she would be complete. The white portion in the 2nd option is not necessary IMO. What would also be really cool is if you did something like these: out of legos to support the ship (those fishes, there). Then you could lift her out anytime you wanted.
  8. Alright- Well I got a new computer, and so I had to figure out my old passwords, which is why I haven't posted in a while. I've built new 9 pounders for the quarter and poop decks, and I also figured out a new why to build the capstan, so that there can be eight bars.
  9. Brickshelf is working! Here's the picture- Brickshelf is working! Here's the picture-
  10. Well, I've done some work on the stern, and aside from tuning the helm system, I've made the transition from waterline to stern gallery much more smooth. My only issue now back aft is the construction of the privies- does anyone know a LEGO model that would illustrate how to build them? I know how they look on the prototype, but as for transferring it into LEGO, I need a little guidance. Also, brickshelf appears to not be working- does anyone know about that?
  11. Well, I guess she'll stay yellow- I'll keep her painted in honour of Lord Nelson. While I've finished the decks, I have been thinking about the capstan, and if it's too large for a frigate. What do you think? (It's four by four, if that's not apparent).

    Capstans

Despite the fact that capstans on frigates are on the quarterdeck, the cooresponding capstan below has slots for bars. I also know that on the Constitution, the gangways in the way of the bars lifted up on hinges- but I didn't know if that was the norm, and also if it applied to the posts. It would make sense though that since the capstan is used in calm, that the posts could be removed for a short period of time. In general, the beams should have been able to stay up on their own, but the posts probably just added a little more support.
  13. I know about the Nelson chequer- and that's actually the only reason why I'd want to stay with the yellow. I guess the best I can do is take inventory of my whit pieces, and if I really have so many more, then I'll change it. For the time being, I'll leave it as yellow.

    Capstans

What did they do with the posts around the capstan? Considering that those bars stuck out pretty far, did they have to remove the posts that the bars would bump into?
  15. I was thinking- what where the criteria for the colour of Royal Navy ships? Considering the Trincolmalee, and my recent influence by the USS Constitution, I am considering changing the strip from yellow to white. Because I have much more white than yellow, I'm thinking that white might make more sense. What do you think?
  16. Whoa- I didn't realize the Trincomalee would be that large in Lego- I knew that the Constitution was heavy, but 148 studs long on the deck! Right now, she's about 98 studs. As for the spanker mast, it's the smaller mast aft of the mizzen, on which the spanker is mounted. The Constitution has one. Here's another picture on the progress:
  17. Actually, she's more based on the HMS Trincomalee. There's a little bit of the Surprise in her, and also some of the USS Constitution as well, but I used the Trincomalee's plans mostly (and some of the plans from this book: My link) She is British, though. On that note, did British ships have spanker masts?
  18. I am not done with the headrails- it was more the overhead view that I was glad with. As for the posts, my frigate is a little narrower (19 studs at the widest point), so I only have two rows. Based on the planking technique I used, they turned out to be 4-6 studs apart. At this point, I've finished the structure from the bow to the edge of the quarterdeck. Once I finish the Wardroom, I'll work on the Great Cabin above, then I'll start work on the masts. Also, does 19 studs wide by 17 bricks high sound accurate? Or is she too narrow?
  19. Since this post, I've finished the orlops and the hold, and I'm starting on the tumblehome. Once that's done, I'll get a nice picture of the bow head on. Also, how many studs should be between the posts that hold up the beams? Right now, I have between 4 and 5.
  20. Well, I've pulled her out for the first time since Christmas. I found a better way to do the headrails, which now look much more realistic. Tell me what you think:
  21. If you are so concerned with accuracy, I'd suggest just going with brick built hulls. There are other proportion problems with the pre-fabs, all of which can be easily solved through some good old classic bricks.
  22. Merry Christmas! As some of you may remember, my pictures in the past have been of poor quality. However, today, for Christmas, my Mum gave me a digital camera. So, here are some higher quality pictures of the H.M.S. Athena (working name). I haven't been working on her much, but another thing that I got for Christmas was a book on the anatomy of the USS Constitution:). I'll probably have some new posts soon. ~Horatio P.S. I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to resize- I'll need some help with that (never had that problem with my old camera!)
  23. She looks great! I can't wait to see her headrails. I do however want to know where her main hatch is! Right now, the crew has no way to get to the gun deck. Other than that, she looks very neat and shipshape.
  24. I believe that there will be a fifth Pirates movie, so Lego might continue the Pirates line at least until that time. In the meantime, they might make a few sets from the first three films (wouldn't it be nice to see the Dauntless in LEGO!), because the fourth film was successful, so I don't think that LEGO will give up so easily. About the fifth film: Fifth film
  25. Well, Captain, it seems as though you've built more of a British ship- not too late to change sides! Weren't ships captured though? Like the Unite, which became the HMS Surprise? Also, I don't think she's too big- usually, people seem to underestimate scale. She really is beautiful, though.
