That’s my biggest beef with that set. Can you imagine if the they had created a new medieval civilian torso or, how about this, go reuse one of those awesome torsos from Mill Village Raid that never saw the light of day again…

Another round of Lego Ideas submissions about to hit the chopping block tomorrow. Any chance one of the dozen or so medieval/historical submissions makes it into a real set? My Ideas pessimism says we get none…probably a book end and an instrument. That Snow White set has some good possibilities with the dwarves’ torsos…

We also appear to be getting another CMF series in a couple of months which might make something available for the Viking 3 in 1 set. And I’ll continue to say that Lego missed their chance at ideas/creator collaboration with rejecting the Viking Village Ideas set. Big missed opportunity when they have a 3 in 1 set coming.

I realize there is a sort of “Billund Bubble” but they can’t be that out of touch to stick another pirate in there, right? They’ve got the one Viking minifig available, I guess they can use some CMF generic green knight or something along those lines and make it work as another character. Regarding the builds, I’m guessing they’ll have small fortress/building and probably a siege weapon of some kind against another beast like animal. I’ll be optimistic since I really liked the 3 in 1 castle and believe they’ll do a good job with this one.

My guess would be mid summer like the Pirate and Castle 3 in 1 sets and where the North American markets need to wait an additional 2 months.

I guess we can expect that awesome CMF Viking figure but I doubt they’ll just throw 3 of them in there. I just hope we don’t get a pirate minifig in a Viking ship…

Unfortunately, Lego dropped the ball by not approving the Viking Village Ideas set by BrickHammer. Otherwise we would have had a nice Vikings 1-2 punch like Pirates and Castle previously.

I had no clue who this character was. Looked her up, very excited for the minifigure for castle.

Lol But seriously, if they’re just changing colors now go ahead and make a light (bluish) grey version with some lion knights. Black version with black monarch knights, etc, etc…

Just a heads up for anyone looking for the new sheep mould from set 10775 (Disney Mickey & Donald’s Farm), I bought some on back order today and was told they’ll be back in stock on the 11th. I paid less for a dozen than that set costs.

I’d guess it has something to do with the timeframe this program is now extending into. With these changes, they’ll be shipping sets through next Summer. If they added another 5000 sets, they’d probably be rolling out sets until close to 2023. At some point they need to end and gear up for the next BL Designer Program. Mothership Lego is probably wanting them to move things along as well so they can move on to “the next thing.” They’re also using Lego resources (customer service, parts, logistics, etc) during all of this and these resources will need to be freed up sooner rather than later. My hope is all of this drives more discussion at Lego about the incredible demand there is for Castle/medieval products. I’d also love to know what production numbers look like for typical sets as well as higher end/adult focused sets. Does anyone have a clue?

Agreed. They did the coliseum but I think they missed a bit with it - hopefully that doesn’t discourage them from doing other historical architecture sets. I don’t know how it has sold, but it’s never been on back order/sold out online and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love from the community. Personally, it was too pricey and repetitive for me to purchase.

I’ve just about bailed on hope of a line of Castle as we knew it - targeted at a younger audience. So my thoughts are, forget the kids, and come out with some higher end annual medieval set targeted at adults. There isn’t a hunger from kids for high end old trucks, detailed plants/trees, old tv shows, old instruments, and historical buildings but Lego pumps them out one after another. Adults will buy them - and their numbers are growing.

Between this and the Medieval Blacksmith being on back order or sold out for the majority of the time on S@H, you would think it would clue them in. I have my doubts. I don’t think we’re getting a full fledged Castle theme again any time soon. I’m pretty sure the thinking is that it’ll just pull sales from other Lego IP’s (Ninjago, etc) so there’s no additional pull and thus benefit for it. Not worth it for the “few” AFOLs. Now, I think a strong case can be made that a Creator Expert level Castle set each year could pull in outside fans AND satisfy our AFOL hunger for medieval goodness. So many possibilities from the $100 to couple of hundred dollar price range. They’ve got factions from the CMF series that they could pull from already and then just throw in a new civilian/faction here and there. I’d go for a Raven castle, medieval trade port with ship, town siege, forest village, etc. they could pump one of these out each year and I’d be happy.

Kings guard was exactly what I was thinking when I got them. They’ll end up around the keep.

I grabbed some close by mini figs as examples.

Funny timing, I just started sorting through my B&P order from that chess set. Such a good set for Castle builders. Yesterday, I parted out the actual set - most of the parts were very useful but I had get more of the swords and helmets from B&P.

I agree with your sentiment. We’ve gone so long without any Castle that there should be some genuine appreciation for these two sets. Pretty damn good ones, too. There’s also some truth that we haven’t been completely ignored - there have been a good number of medieval/fantasy minifigs in the CMF line. There’s also Harry Potter for parts (the minifigs are mostly useless) and one off castles that have popped up every now and then. The Hidden Side castle was particularly good - finally giving us inverted 2x2 corner slopes in LBG. Those things were a small fortune on BL previously. I bulked up on B&P. All of that said, I too want new weapons/prints/barding/dedicated parts to MOC with. We’re just not going to get that with Creator sets. I think it’s a safe play for Lego to release an additional Creator Expert level medieval set in the $200 plus range once a year. The Blacksmith has been sold out online since pretty much day one. I will continue to voice my opinion in every survey and every time I walk into a Lego store - but I’ll also speak with my wallet by supporting the medieval sets they do release.

I believe it’s Ideas like this where we have our best chance at a Castle in the Ideas line. Not only is it a property that has the possibility of pulling others in, but there are a lot of different building techniques than we’ve seen from Lego. I’ve supported most Castles in Ideas but while they’re great for us Castle fans, I don’t think Lego would do them as their catchment is pretty limited and there’s no real new techniques being applied. While not the most well known property, it would have some pull. I’m supporting. 👍

This is a great set. The interior details exceed just about every castle we’ve ever gotten. The colors are “meh” but we can fix that yellow/brown combo and/or dark blue roof pretty easily if need be. I’ll be picking up 3, maybe more with sales. My only real gripe is the civilian pirate. Can we not get one new torso? I would have rather had a plain torso...
