  1. It's racist because it brings race into it. All yellow = no race A licens brings up the price, there's no doubt about it. Just look at the latest Jabba Palace compaired to the Dino HQ. Big new detailed unique molds, similar piece count - not exaclty the same end price ..
  2. I'm sorry I brought up ADHD (yes, it's close to me also) Now back to licensed themes .. Yes, TLG have been doing this forever .. sort of (think 'Shell/ESSO'), but it's not been until recent years it's has taken over whole themes, like Space, Castle and Pirates I do object. Because I think too much of the creative energy have been directed towards these themes and not the original themes. And that saddens me Also, licensed themws are mouch more expensive. Not good as LEGO is, for a lot of people, very expensive And fleshies bring a certain racist flavour to LEGO that I dont like (be it movie precise or not) They can very well keep up with their own themes. Spend some time to innovate _that_ Making LEGO Cars just makes LEGO _not_ stand out on the shelf in the toyshop since there's a gazillion Cars (By Cars, I mean cars from the Pixar movie "Cars") Same thing with SW When I was a kid I went to section with LEGO to stare at LEGO .. I didn't go to the SW section to pickout a particular manufacturer of toys
  3. Well, disregard the the first part (but it's still truthfull, like it or not), attentionspan IS a problem today amongst kids and TLG is NOT helping by shifting themes every year
  4. They can copyright all they want (but they might want to clear it with TLG first ) and he can build all that he wants as long as he doesn't copyright or sell it as an original creation Which means; don't worry
  5. That's a wierd reply. Do you know the guy or his presumed alias on this forum? Anyay, he did not seem (from the articles I've read) like a LEGO luver who'd spend mindless hours on the internet discussing endless details of a window on the latest modular building .. more like a common criminal. And stupid to boot
  6. Way too many! Where is the cool space/castle stuff? No, it's not BoredOftheRings or Star-LucasIsGonnaChangeHisMindForever-Wars .. I'm a bit tired of all the creative efort is going into those themes. Let Kenner, Hasbro whatever do that stuff and TLG do some original toys, how about that? It worked pretty good for .. oh 30/40 years? City isn't exactly what is used to be, nice vehicles, but where are all the buildings? Space seems desperate, I luve SPIII though, but there's no .. hmm, lineage? And all those actions themes .. while I do love most of them , why can ther be no CONTINUITY?? ADHD seems to bigger than AIDS these days and attentionspan is shorter than 30 seconds .. Make something kids wants to follow, get deep into, build an expand .. and continue to follow in many years Worked pretty good when I was a kid in the early 80's without those licenses (and we didn't have ADHD back then either, think about that) And the result are all these AFOLS using this forum
  7. My dispute with Bricksland have had a happy ending
  8. Good luck with your project. I do think your wheels are quite a bit too small. Looking at that link you gave, it's easy to see. Roughly the height from the ground to the engine cover looks like it's 2 times the wheel diameter .. on your creation it's much bigger, like three times at least. It does look wrong, imho The proportions looks better on the small model
  9. That house is monstrous! Luv it, and I'll have to get plenty of them too Now folks, just use your brains, IF he copied that house I'm sure TLG would boot him. And who wants to get booted from _that_ kinda job? And IF TLG was the big evil mastermind behind this, I'm sure the other builder could sue TLG from here to Mars .. And, it's been noted over the last .. ah 50? years, that TLG have a shitload more moral than several wellknow countries combined It's the age of the internet! Everybody knows what you did before you do it (which, as the TLG creator hints, makes it VERY hard to be an official LEGO builder and AFOL at the same time) Relax, it's just a generic haunted house with similar building features Just like the creator said .. Now, if you really have that much anger build up inside against LEGO copycats, there's a bunch of companies that you can direct that at. I don't to name names And kudos for the creator to speak up! I think I'll buy double the amount of that set just for that, haha
  10. Dluders, what a strange thread!? You are NOT entitled to those pdfs. They are, as others have pointed out, an extra service for those who might have bought the sets but lost the (paper) manuals. I'm sure TLG does NOT put them up so you can MOC/BL any new set as you please. The set, the idea, the intellectual property, the whole shebang is what you get when you buy the set Have you even _bought_ the set? Also, your comment about the US Air Force (and the general tone in your thread/email to TLG) is what we europeans would call 'typical american'. And that's not meant positively, sorry I work with custom relations too, and if you send me an email like that, I'd tell you exactly what I've written above. And probably in a much stronger language So, chill and wait until TLG makes those pdfs available for you to enjoy. For free
  11. That is pure gold, I had pretty much the lot as a child (but it all went in to the garbagecan!) .. I LUV'ED the 6929 and I think I'll have to get it again That Mærsk thing is worth something now, no? Pure gold, I say
  12. Let me give some examples : I really want a new postoffice! : And a favourite of my childhood (yes, I know there's a newer and bigger garage, but it does not have to so big = expensive! : I've omitted the usual police/firestations (which have only become better, imo) and the racetracks (which seem to be an action theme now). There's a few more ordinary homes as well I'd sure like to see some of this stuff rebooted
  13. I don't think TLG have anything against hospitals, but their designermind seem to be stuck in 6x16 mode I'm very saddened by the fact that the greatest designers seem to be only doing licenced themes now .. While a few nice designs have come out of the "6x16" mode, I'm kinda tired that it all looks the same. Yes, we have the modulars now, but why have City become such a stillstand compared to 80's? Does City not sell well? TLG have managed to come up with a LOT of nice looking vehicles in the last few years, but no cool buildings to boot? I know TLG like to reboot and flipping through the catalogs from '82 to '89 there's a shitload that could be made again, agree do you not? Oh, well MOC'ing is the way, but that don't put bread on the TLG table Just imho, that is ..
  14. I don't think it's a replacement for the bank (which was widely available in DK), but I'm a little tired of TLG doing only 8x16 style buildings! That's quite a limit (for the TLG designers) and I used to see much bigger variation in the 80' buildings Also, the option recombining buildings is pretty stupid. But that's just imo
  15. Vampires, skeletons and graves predates ANY current religion and are part of much folklore so let's not get into that, TLG is just tapping into some common ground here (as allways) Anyway, I'm really looking forward to these sets! (And yes, I'm tired of my son naggin' me to buy stuff not available, haha) Great theme!
  16. That is bunk. The Monster Fighter train will go on sale in a few months. Sure, it may not be what we're wanting, but it is a train and it's for sale in 2012 But if you have better information, please share it with us
  17. Very dissapointed I could build the lot in a few hours with the bricks I got. Luv'ed the frist wave, got multitudes of those .. but these sets seem VERY uninspired. I mean TLG have done way better mining vehicles than those (in the PM theme amongst others). The truck, miniloader and heavy hauler looks like something we've all seen before I guess City was not so important this time. Is Starwars/LotR taking up all the good designers time? Nice that we finally got a hospital .. eh, emergency room I want that parking station! And where is the rest of the buildings? You know, buildings, they have like walls, roofs, interior, atmosphere and playability Tired of licensed themes taking precedense over core Lego themes ... imho that is Oh, maybe next year
  18. 4-5 stud is not 'microscale', imho. 2-stud is (and I have seen no powered versions of that) If you're going to use the current 4 wide tracks, you're limited to curves and ups'n'downs, no straights (you'll have to hack ordinary train tracks for that). You might be able to use PF batterypacks and RC controllers, but then you're limited to PF medium motors. How will you implement that? The reason that you cannot find similar project is, imho, that it's quite futile Good luck anyway
  19. Wonderfull! I'm often in Portugal (my parents live in Tavira) and I think you've captured the spirit with the trainstation and that super nice house with the red(ish) roof, good work I haven't been able to study Portuguese trains yest (heck, Tavira doesn't even have a trainstation, just a stop) so I don't know if they're accurate. But it looks real good Me likes
  20. Should have bought Apple shares 5 years ago, sure. Gold seem to be the big thing now. But this is not a topic for EB I'm not really much into this whole 'LEGO as an investement' thing (and I'm quite sure, you wont be able get a serious loan in the bank to buy bricks anyway) Actually, I'm a bit saddened by it. It means it'll be quite hard for LEGO enthusiast to buy old sets for decent money. But such is life
  21. Hi there TT (sorry, this a long post ..) My name is Ole Frost Berry and I'm a (LEGO)train nut Trains a wicked cool and I've been fortunate enough to both steer (is that the right term?) proper trains and to get inside info on motors etc plus been to a bunch of train museums Trains are definitely a turning point in the modern world, imo Back in the 80's (I'm 37 now) I was fortunate to own a bunch of the classics (+ some 'blue stuff'), like 7740/50/60 and a heep of tracks and automation (and those wonderfull buildings, oh do I miss them!). Unfortunally my life took many wierd turns and the lot ended up in thrash I've been away from the LEGO from since '89 to about 8 months ago. Of course one the first things I had to buy was the current batch of trains and also to look up some of the stuff I missed in that period. That was fun, a bottle of good redwine and BL/Peeron'in all night .. The 9V era just flew right ower my head and there's is honestly not very much of that I'd like to buy (I'd like the Santa Fe and the Metroliner though, but NOT for those prices). I've been to some exhibitions and I've seen the 9V system in full use, but for me it represents the worst of LEGO trains : Powered by rail (thus only one train on the same tracks at one given time), but no automation So I knew that system is not for me. It does have one huge advantage that I'll get to in a little moment .. PF really rocks! I like to make motorised cranes etc and I've also build motorised crossings etc, PF is perfect for that. Much easier than the old 4,5/9V motor system. But I like to make stuff more automated, which means using opto sensors etc. Of course that means stepping out of the LEGO universe and use electrical components that can do what I want and not what TLG offers. But I'm no purist anyway I find some of the latest PF/RC trains quite good. I don't have huge problems with the 7898/97 system and I've bought some of those as well. Of course the 7897 is design disaster with that huge gap, but I find the actual remote control to work just fine. And they have different powered trainbases compared the current PF trains. And my excuse to buy vast amounts of LEGO, eh I mean my son, likes that horn very much And that is the only problem I really have with PF : It's REALLY difficult to make a PF train with a narrow top section (like the 7760) because of that darn batterybox! If PF (batterybox/RC recivers) at least came in more colours, I'd be semi happy 9/12V really had an advantages here. So I try to work around that .. I'm working with custom LiPO/standard 9V batteries I can hide under the train or in narrow 4 wide bodies. So far, it's working well Yes, quite 'unLEGO', but I've chosen PF and 6-wide trains, so I must work around that until TLG offers what I want. Time will tell I'm an electrical technician that works with low voltage/batteries everyday anyway so it's a piece of cake So PF is my way. But of course nostalgia hit me and I've bought a few old 12V trains just to check them out again. A 7740 and a 7727, but really, they don't have the smooth ride like PF and are too much a maintance headache. And only one train on the same track. Not good. I'm gonna use the parts for something else and unload the rest So far my stock/stash includes about 15 of the latest PF/RC trains (the majority is 7938 for parts, they're cheap in Denmark), but no Emerald or Mærsk. I find those two quite ugly and I have no need for steemers and I'm not much for supporting Mærsk anyway (not a topic for this forum, sorry) .. so shot me, haha. Oh, I also luv the flextracks! Great if you don't have much space/wants to make weird curves, also great for making elavation I've only kept one 3677/7939 and a bunch of the rolling stock, the rest have morphed into new trains Sure, soon I'll display the lot. But right now I have to make the track/city. Luckily, I recently gotten a spare room in my flat. It's only about 12m2, but it'll have to do for now Good forum, not too shabby moderator (those 80's reviews you did really made me smile), good people, fantastic MOCs What's not to like?
  22. Very cool! I didn't know those 3mm rigid hoses came in such great lenght, but checking BL I see you can get them as long as 63L/50,4cm (allthough only 49L/39,2cm if you want it black, item# 75c49) I'm most definitely gonna use this idea as well Great that you don't to make those cumbersome 7777 wagons (as cool as the concept is, it just doesn't look all that well, imho) Great work
  23. I could never buy a set for investment. I'd hide it under the sofa for three days and then I'd kill to open it, haha He should have put some 'new, sealed' 7740/50/60s on that list. Sure, you'd need to hold on to them for 30 years but the return wouldn't be that bad I think I do regret no buying a second 10210 Imperial Flagship as it has gone 2,5x the the price I paid just a few months ago .. but then I'd would probbably have opened/build that too Nah, better to buy Apple shares or whatever
  24. I'd like to ad that it's not hard to find the 7938 for 100EUR, so there's your eh, 100 euro motorized train Instead of complaining, we should be happy that there IS/HAVE BEEN a bunch of trains avaliable in the last few years .. and buy loads of them to boot! If you don't like the designs, it's easy to dump the parts you deem unnecessary at BL. Or just buy the motor/wheel parts at BL. Both options will get you cheep trains I've done both and I've bought about 15 of the newer trains (and none of the MYT on BL as I think those designs are not very good) The only thing I'm a little saddened about is the lack of train related buildings as in the 80's and the silly packages TLF offer with spare tracks. I think I've read the curve and straight tracks are made from the same mould, but that makes no sense as there are more curved tracks in TLG's sets than straights So, please give us 8/16 straights with nothing else TLG seems to be on a license roll these days, but I'm sure trains will be back sometime. Yes, they may be expensive to produce but TLG have made a wise choise with PF and that development have probably paid it selv by now and we can only hope for more PF trains in the future (and perhaps without/with seperate rolling stock) But if we DON'T buy the current trains, there will surely be a long time with no new stuff for us So, please BUY more trains! They seem to sell quite well here in Denmark btw
  25. BL is gonna explode, I tell ya
