Another Strategic mineral being mined in the abundant land of Lavalette. After a geologic survey turned up some mercury rich rocks, teams set to work digging a second tunnel and trying to separate the mercury from the rest of the stone. "Joe?" "Yeah, Bill?" "Do you ever wonder, like if these fumes are bad for us?" "What? If mercury was bad for us, why would doctors prescribe it and why would it be used in hats... hats that you wear against your head all day long!? You are an idiot sometimes Bill!" NOTE: Slow to get posted, new mine min size got me. Also, disaster struck mid photo shoot.

The backlog of capital ship orders to support the war in Terraversa has required, but also funded, Admiral Beauchamp in expanding the shipyard even further with the addition of a rope factory - licensed as a large factory. -
Throughout the war, demand in the ship building industry far outpaced capacity. Sensing the shortfall early on, Admiral Retired Girard Beauchamp shrewdly sank every DB he could leverage into expanding the Beauchamp Shipyard in Breshaun. Today, the latest expansion is complete, a rope making factory. The shipyard has always been the crown jewel of Beauchamp's economic empire, and the continued expansion clearly shows that this remains the case. The long, narrow building is an iconic fixture in major shipyards, required to house the equipment needed to make the miles of rope each capital ship requires. The high, vaulted ceiling keeps workers cool despite their labor. To make room for the long building, Beauchamp had to build a sturdy pier with added sturdy beams taken from his Plantation in Eltina. With the backlog of lucrative naval contracts to support the Crown's Fleet, the Admiral loosened up on his traditionally utilitarian construction methods and allowed his home grown carpenters a little freedom in the building's face and stonework. Even with some added frills, the Admiral was pleased to see the new build fit nicely with the rest of the yard. Laid along side the drydock and perpendicular to the shoreline, the shipyard is becoming a prominent fixture in the waterfront of Breshaun. The Beauchamp Shipyard can now outfit rigging without relying on external vendors. Licensing this latest large factory continues to build self sufficiency and owning his entire production chain. Note: True or not, my father pointed out long brick buildings in the Charleston Naval Yard once upon a time and explained that it was a rope factory. He never let facts ruin a good story, but I thought it was neat to think of building a building that size just so you could make the miles and miles of rope needed for a ship. So with that inspiration, I had no idea what an actual rope making machine looked like. What you see is loosely based off some stuff google spit out.

@Ayrlego (and Court), I think this is great! A great way to allow the dust to settle in TV, advance the story, and give everybody a vote in continuing to shape it. Well planned! Great build ideas. A couple questions. I want to ask up front before people start building things and are surprised by assumptions about unspecified details: 1. Can we clarify/specify up front that digital builds are ok, not ok, or "ok, but..." I think it will help manage expectations for all, particularly those of us who are transitioning between continents this summer. 2. Also, to clarify, there was a lot of discussion about how settlements would shrink/grow, maybe be incorporated, etc. in negotiating the peace treaty. I think we were all fine to wait and see if the next KPA would specify size and trade value of everything in TV. BUT, now we are all potentially about to embark on a few months worth of TV focused builds. I think it would be very helpful to publish the settlement size and details for EACH settlement in TV ASAP. If we don't do this now, then later we will be struggling to figure out what builds were rolled into the settlement when. EX. If as the dust settles from the war, it is determined that KP is a "City" it would need 8 Artisans, etc. to upgrade to a "Large City" we should stake out the size before people start building artisan builds in KP. 2.a. OL built 4 forts in TV before the rules changed. Those builds would now be illegal. The Medium (I think) in Plinton and Large Fort in Nola Mar (and large cultural build in Nola Mar) probably don't need rulings other than, "they are rolled into the current settlement size" or "they are added onto the new settlement size." The Large Fort in Tarlor and the Royal Fort in KP probably need a ruling. I think best ruling is, "Oleon just change the locations to a settlement you own, tell us which ones" I don't think anything else was "licensed" during the war. 3. Do we read this as a potential outcome of this challenge being ESL taking over a settlement? There are no faction prizes and no mention of settlements. Can we specify that resizing (beyond licensing builds) and reflagging settlements "is" or "is not" on the table as potential outcomes during this challenge? I hope the court views all this as trying to improve transparency, clarify, and expectations before people start slapping bricks together. I'll end where I began, this challenge, and all the sub-elements, is a great idea to in and out of context move forward from the peace treaty. I'm looking forward to it.

Ooooohhhhh droid arms between two lances.... very nice.... I would love to see the opposite view, is that only plate thin as it climbs uphill? From the edge it seems like it may not be as rocky and dense as it appears?
-
Superb! The door and stone work around it, the edges of the table, the use of the lime(ish) green, the studs on top for texture while the rest of the roof is smooth. All fantastic.

Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II

Humbled by the King's recognition and with little need to debating the issue, Edward has selected the family's long used, but never formalized Crest as his Coat of Arms. Thanks for the very formal write up @Captain Genaro -
I think your three builds together now make a great story that is well woven into the rest of the TV story. Now that all three are laid out, starting with the sudden and unannounced move of the quiver seems clearly justified and well in context. Like a movie that starts mid drama and action then cuts to "two weeks earlier" to explain how it all started.

Yup, Lieutenant Colonel for LTC and Colonel for COL is an easier leap but still unexplained shorthand. Glad the story is appreciated, seemed like a good way to (shamelessly promote my sigfig) add some more color and depth to recent events. -

This purchase is inevitable! Totally re-shot in order for my sigfig to rock his manbun. Glad you called it out before I disassembled any of it. So... thanks... I guess "Come and get them!" -CPT Leonidas of the 1st Grenadier Guards Had a comment from somebody the other day about trying some shots at Mini-Fig level. So added a few giving that a try. Very happy with results. Forgot who said that and where, but thanks! -
Well, it is no surprise that the RNTC would immediately move to coopt the "vineyard of Light" brand into their own. In fact, many now speculate that Admiral Beauchamp had build the entire enterprise with the intent on selling it to the RNTC all along. Perhaps, perhaps. Regardless of motives, "Vineyard of Light" is now a subsidiary brand of the RNTC and can be found wherever RNTC products are proudly sold. In fact, distribution has become the bottle neck (wine pun) in the operation. Which is why the owners are proud to present their new Commercial Warf. The wharf is the latest build on the expanding Lavalette waterfront, offering storage and a staging area for shipments bound for across the brick seas. Still sporting the traditional Lion on a Blue and Gray field of the Beauchamp family, the new wharf is separated from the rest of the vineyard but still distinguishable as part of the VoL brand. shipments of wine arrive from the vineyards to the wharf around the clock, awaiting a ship to carry them abroad. The double crane on the wharf helps speed loading and unloading Also, it just so happens to be good fishin' if you have access. Keeping distribution on pace with growing demand. The vineyard continues to be a Lavalette landmark. The West and East Vineyards produce the grapes, grapes are turned into wine at the winery, some bottles go to the restaurant, while the rest is distributed from the warehouse or sent to the wharf for shipping around the Brick Seas. 2 x Large Plantations, Large Factory, Large Artisan, and 2 x Large Commercial licenses. Dear Sir, I write you tonight from a jubilant Nola Mar where peace and victory, so dearly bought, are finally at hand. As the Generals draw lines on maps and the tallies are counted, it is imperative to me that this story be retold. The story of the death of COL Delange, the dire situation of Astrapi's own beloved Garde de Grenadiers du 1er Régiment (1st Regt Grenadier Guards), and the actions and bravery of a young Officer named Edward Beauchamp. Sergeants told new recruits that Delange had been in the Regiment since they had tinted their epaulettes with Corry blood, and well this may actually have been true. The Colonel had been Commanding the Regiment for longer than all but the most seasoned remembered. Fearless and full of bravado, he had been pleased when his most aggressive Battalion Commander, LTC Beauchamp had asked to be the breach element for the final assault on King's Port. Beauchamp's charisma and aggressive tactics had made him the focal point of the Nola Mar volunteers. His battalion was a combination of an elite grenadier company and zealous Nola Mar loyalists. Their hit and run tactics leading up to the major battles had earned them the nom de guerre, "Beauchamp's Marauders." The Nola Mar loyalists would not stand any other troops being first into the inner city, Delange was happy to oblige. Delay after delay held off the main attack and all the while, the Duke's men were fortifying the position. When finally the assault commenced, the ferocity of the 1st Grenadiers was met in kind by TV artillery that played havoc amongst the buildings at such close range. It was here, where the artillery was most intense and the fighting most dangerous that COL Delange was striding back and forth with the regimental colors flying behind him as if on a parade. Undaunted by casualties and the destruction around them, the Nola Mar volunteers and the elite Grenadier Guards continued to follow their leaders forward, until a shell fragment ripped through the side of Delange as he bolted across an open alleyway. "Its alright, its..... alright..." the pain of speaking cut him short. The pain etched on his typically unflinching face was more telling than the growing pool of blood. The Colonel would not survive much longer, he would not move from this spot. "The rain is heavier than the forecast had called for" he managed a shallow laugh. "This was your idea Beauchamp, I need you to see it through. Its fine, knock out those guns so a litter can come out and get me off this wall before the house burns down." "Yes Sir" Beauchamp nodded as another round screamed in, impacted around the corner and breaking the disturbingly quiet and calm scene. "You have a lot of ground still to cover, and it sounds like plenty to do when you get there. You wanted to be first into the city center, your local boys will have there chance." "We won't let you down" Beauchamp said reassuringly to the fading Colonel. "Here, the saber was.... a gift from... the last Commander" Delange's chest heaved as his blood stained gloves lifted the etched saber to the pistol wielding LTC. "I'll take good care of them, Colonel" Edward said distractedly referring to the Regiment of pinned down Grenadiers instead of the sword. He stood up and looked around as a litter arrived to take charge of the mortally wounded Colonel. Making eye contact with the gathered officers, LTC Edwards Beauchamp quietly said, "Follow me" and walked towards the incoming shells. "Follow me" he said as he picked up to a trot, holding the saber, in front of him as if it were still some foreign object. "Follow me!" he yelled as he took off at a full run towards the entrenched defenders. With the shells continuing to rain down around them and musket fire intensifying, the men rallied to their new leader. Using speed and the cover of the rubbled inner city to minimize the impact of the constant barrage, Beauchamp led the battered troops forward and the Garde de Grenadiers du 1er Régiment (1st Regt Grenadier Guards) rushed the inner defenses of the city and cracked the Terraversan line. It was the saddest and proudest moment in the long history of the Regiment. The death of a hero and a pivotal point in the drawn out final battle for King's Port. Once the city fell, the young LTC kept his men in order, preparing a hasty defensive position to hold their newly conquered lands, and tending mercifully to their own wounded and captured wounded alike. Though we have lost a great leader, it had been young Beuachamp from the start that had volunteered for the dangerous breach assignment to lead the assault and then ultimately it was him that saw the attack through against everything the defenders could muster. He is well deserving of any recognition you see fit and I believe the Regiment will do well under his leadership despite his age. Yours humbly. [OL - Claim] Geo-Surveys Continue in Lavalette
CapOnBOBS replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Aren't we all looking for something... existentially? Deep I know (mining pun)... but also yes, I am... non-existentially... looking for something... in Lavalette. Anyway, not just a build form but a license form for each prospect build? I am tracking 25 DBs per claim, but thought the build form tracked and the license form was only for the finished mine? Also, I thiught the prospecting build is not a "licensed property" just the completed mine? So want to make sure I'm doing this right. "License" prospecting builds AND "license" completed mines? But only completed mines count towards monthly limits? Thanks! (I will learn eventually) -
Peace reigns across the Brick Seas, but "you know if you don't spend all the money they give you this year, you won't be able to get as much next year" says, Roy Messi as he loads up his pack. Having been hired as part of the strategic resources survey of Lavalette, he wasn't about to "stop" digging just because the war was over. As luck would have it though, they found a vein of something. Now he was off to get it tested. "Stay down in that hole! I better not be able to see the top of that gnarly head of yours when I get back!" Roy barked with a smile on his face. Neither of the miners were sure if he was joking or serious. His smile seemed genuine enough, but could have just been about the backpack full of potential Roy was hefting down the hill back to Lavalette.
