I never even thought about yellow being difficult to work with when I built this. Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I'm definitely a fan of the interior most, though. Now, where should the building go? Trying to decide if it looks best by the fire brigade or green grocer (my only two modulars at the moment, although I'm bricklinking cafe corner). I think I like it next to the FB best because of the red/yellow contrast, but the rooflines are very similar. Can't wait to show you my next modular! Waiting for some key bricks to get in and have been playing around with possible roofs.

This is hilarious. I can see LEGO doing this next... and then Police after, of course!

Congrats to the winners-- there were some really great builds in this contest!

Thank you, everyone! To those who commented on the color: I had a lot of yellow bricks so knew a building needed to be built out of those. Yellow isn't my favorite color either; however, gold and dark grey are one of my favorite color combinations, so I thought maybe I could make it work. I decided on the tile floor pattern for the florist shop because it needed livened up with the dark grey walls; after the flowers and the tile, though, I don't even notice the walls!

B-OM-13A Hi EBers, I've been building this modular for a little over a week now and it's the first one I've built. Let me just say... modulars use A LOT of bricks! I had to order some extra yellow bricks just to get me through... and a lot of tiles. All three floors! I like the first two floors a lot, but I'm least happy with the third-- I need to find some way to add interest/arches up there without it looking so middle eastern, which throws off the architectural balance of the rest of the building. (Okay, so I made up any architectural balance that's here-- I didn't use a specific style). But the top floor doesn't sit right. Let's head into the first floor... the flower shop. I don't even like flowers much... have been in a florist twice, I believe. But I needed something cheerful for the dark bley interior, so I thought flowers would work well! Ah, a customer! There's a toilet behind the little blue door... forgot to open it to show you. Moving up to the second floor, the main floor of the apartment which holds a kitchen, dining area, and living room with an open floor plan. The apartment owners own the whole building, including the flower shop. The woman downstairs just runs the place as the couple who live upstairs both have jobs as well. Ben has a mate over after work... The dining room table is made from a recycled crate. In this picture you can see both of the lights... well, it's really one big unit. Floor three... the bedroom. Bed, lamp, artwork... and a plant shelf above the stairs. The water feature... I had a desk there originally but decided this modern couple needed something special. There's also a dresser and plant. From the back... I won't show you the sides and top, but if you're interested, there are pics in my Brickshelf gallery. Thanks for looking! C&C welcome! (Coming up next... a Greek Revival modular, and I'm loving the way it's turning out...) Can a moderator please change the subtitle? It's supposed to say "flower shop"-- didn't even notice that I'd written bookshop!

Very nice! I've been thinking about building a dark-red modular, and the white trim looks nice! I like the windows/balcony on the second floor the best. P.S. Classrooms in Slovakia have blackboards too...

My last post here! I decided I'd better post the last little bits here because I've already dismantled half the town for my next project. Let me just say: modulars use a lot of bricks! So, I have some random odds-and-ends to share... First, I added another floor to my panelak (and ran out of white bricks on the last balcony)... four floors just looked much more realistic than only three. Brown tiled floors. I decided at this point that the apartments go across horizontally. A rather simple, modern look... I won't show you the other pic of the living room/kitchen area because it turned out too blurry. Moving on to other parts of the town, we have the bus stop and ice cream shop next to it, samosrejme. The sign by the bus stop would normally be on the outskirts of town, but it just fit here. It has the town's coat of arms, and on the white tile above that would be the name of the town (I just didn't sticker/label it). The bus arrives... used the bus from City Corner. And finally, heading out of town, we have a sunflower field and wayside shrine (not sure what they're called, but they can be seen across the country). It's fairly common to see people biking to and fro on country roads as well. Thanks for following my thread, and I'll see you around with my next project!

B-RV-13C For some reason, this is my last building... but it was the first building I designed and built for my town. Hmm. My Slovak farmhouse A view of the front garden... flowers to the left with a picnic area on the right The kitchen, dining area, and living room The "couch" makes me laugh. Master bedroom... modern and contemporary LEGO house with a bathroom! Okay, just a tub and sink with sprayer. I just realized the stairs are missing... whoops... must have stolen them for another project. There was a set in front of the dining table and one in front of the patio door. And, the attic loft for the children Although most of the furniture is pretty simple, I do like the house design, the roof line, and the color scheme.

Well, I had a review of this set ready to go... last Friday... but then Brickhself has been down all week! I still might post it at some point as I have a different perspective on the set. Thanks for the review! I was wondering if anyone would ever review the last $10 set.

Wow, this is a cool design and it will be fun to follow your build (I just found the topic). I like the building design and it's something I could see building as well in the future (except for perhaps the huge piece count)! Thanks for doing this and posting the pics!

I kind of like the simpler look... while I love GG, it looks too busy for my tastes. My favorite types of architecture have always been (American) Greek Revival and then Gothic Revival, both of which are simpler, especially with the smaller buildings.

I've been trying to log in for the past day and a half or so... won't let me. I can view my pages, but that doesn't help me upload!

I'd like to give this a try... I haven't seen anywhere how long it might take, but I have some free time every once in a while! -
Getting in the mood... for sorting!
slovakiasteph replied to Dakar A's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I enjoy sorting as well! Typically the only time I'm NOT watching TV is when I'm sorting LEGO. The thing I don't enjoy is breaking down/tearing apart sets... a bit rough on my hands So, I typically do that as I sort. -
Review: 6388 (1472) Vacation House
slovakiasteph replied to Tancred_de_Beauville's topic in LEGO Town
I love these classic LEGO set reviews! I'm mentioning it now because I just built this set last night. I don't have the original set or the instructions, but I used my pieces and instructions online. -
Thank you so much for translating that article, L@go! An interesting read!

There's a green base plate, 6x12 I believe.

I picked this up the other day... it's a great box! I wanted more colors to complement my Friends sets (not typically a pink person). The purple minifig didn't hurt matters. :) I was also thinking of picking up another one!

It's been down since about 4pm (eastern) time yesterday... I had pictures ready to upload for a review... guess that won't get posted this weekend!

Instead of using the two panels together (for the four windows on each side), has anyone tried the 1x2x3 windows? I realize that would be a simple look and not like the original, but it seems like it would be an alternative.

B-OV-27B My "artist's workshop." From the front... wish I had enough bley tiles to put a sidewalk out in front. There's a painting studio on the top floor and a weaving studio on the bottom. The fold-up bed, folded down. A closer look at the loom downstairs... what we call a "barn loom" in the US. My maternal great-grandma and paternal great-grandpa each had one for making rag rugs (and I have a smaller floor loom). This loom is actually one of the first things I build when I got back into LEGO, which is why not all the pieces match. I could go back and re-do some of it, but I like the rustic charm.

Well, I just tried a variety of options... even the found plates don't hold by themselves. I guess the technic bricks are worn because when I tried putting the pieces on other bricks, they held. I'm just surprised as I've never had pieces not hold together because of age, so I was sure I was doing something wrong! Thanks for the help!
-
Thanks... those fit fine, but I was talking about step 41, where the lower half of the lamp attaches to the technic bricks below the headlight bricks. I can't imagine what I must be doing wrong that they don't fit.
-
Agh, I meant GG... just realized I typed CC (will edit the original question). Green grocer. You use the sextant-type piece, with a 1x1 round plate attached, and that's supposed to stay in the hole in the technic brick. But mine doesn't.
