  1. Thanks for the info! Not sure if I'll go yet... will probably wait 'til Saturday to decide. In general, I'm rather shy and not a fan of large rooms and lots of people!
  2. I'm pretty new to the LEGO world... recently returned from my Dark Ages. I have a few questions about events like these... What's the main purpose? Is it mostly just LEGO displays to go around and look at? How long does a person typically spend there? Are there any events? (the website doesn't have very much info). Also, it doesn't look like there are any vendors here? I'm wondering if it would be worth it-- should I spend $20 (on gas as I live an hour away...and a ticket), or would that be better spent on a LEGO set? Thank you!
  3. Oh my word, love these! I haven't bought any of the modulars (too expensive for me and I don't know that I can justify spending that much on a LEGO set), but this might be my way to get my hands on the modulars... in mini version! Love!
  4. B-PV-1E My police station: It's probably a bit large for the size of the town I have in mind... but it just kept growing. I didn't like any of the police stations I had (6386 and 7744) very much, so I decided to make my own. From the back: The only things I know about police stations is from watching Cagney and Lacey... and that's American, so I'm not at all sure this is authentic. I just used some of the pieces from my various police stations to fill the interior: a reception desk and water cooler, kitchenette, interrogation area (Cagney sitting at the desk ), control area with computers. Downstairs is the garage/carport. Upstairs... a little apartment that a few bachelor officers share. We'll say that the police department rents out the space. There's a bunkbed, couch, and chair.
  5. These are so cool! Very specific! I love the variety even though they're all police vehicles (LEGO could learn from this ).
  6. I use the first pronunciation for each. As for vignette, it sounds something like "vin-yet." Mostly. I thought you were going to ask how to pronounce LEGO. Well, seriously... I live in the Midwest US, and people say Lay-go (while I say leh-go). I'm sure this varies as well by region/accent!
  7. Thank you, everyone! I'm trying to make the furniture for each house at least a little different. Yes, they're complete (at least mostly ) -- thanks!
  8. B-RV-10C Time for an update! My little grey country house. I built this one because I wanted to find a use for that baseplate. Whoops... there's some old grey bricks mixed in there. I should probably separate those from the rest of my mostly-newer bricks! The upper interior, as the lower level just has a carport and entry-way. You can't see the kitchen very well, but there's a sink and stove. A little table with chair for eating, and a comfy lounge chair. The bedroom upstairs has a bed and a little table with a lamp. I liked this house so much that my sigfig now resides here. She finds it comfy and likes the lounger on the porch as well. I don't know that this house is specifically Slovak, but I built it to become part of the town.
  9. Sigh... at those prices, I'm probably limited to 2 of those vehicles. $20 is definitely NOT an impulse buy for me... or any kid. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that LEGO is targeted toward children. Will definitely be looking for these on sale! They would be great for TRU's BOHO sale.
  10. I like the tree house too. The buildings are really the only thing I'm interested in: the cafe and house. Oh, and the "small kitchen."
  11. We'll be overrun by black LEGO octopi soon, apparently! ETA: it's probably just a good piece to carry around and thus lose.
  12. Am I the only one who's not seeing a connection here? Where is the LEGO in this video?
  13. That reminds me... I also once found part of LEGO something-or-other beside the road (in the grass) on a walk. I picked up the pieces that hadn't been run over and took them home. That was during my Dark Ages, so I wasn't particularly excited, but it was still LEGO!
  14. Today I was pacing the floors of my English Composition class at a local community college while my students worked on a project. I headed toward the back of the room and saw a little orange dot on the floor. "Why, that looks like a 1x1 round LEGO plate." Picked it up... it was. That's as exciting as finding a nickel, but moreso because I was not expecting to find a piece of LEGO on the floor of my college! So, where's the most unexpected place have you have found a random piece of LEGO?
  15. Per day, about half to one hour building LEGO. Whenever I want a substantial break from work (i.e. my brain needs a different challenge since I work partly from home). I also check EB several times throughout the day-- that's my quick break from work.
  16. I also have to add that while I'm not a fan of these new people (instead of minifigs), I do prefer their faces to that of the typical female minifig. These have a cute-ish anime-type face instead of the annoying lipstick-look we get with each minifig. Also, they're not annoying like Bratz or Barbie!
  17. I saw the pics this morning before I went to work... I was expecting something a little more "forest-y," for lack of a better word. To me, it looks like they took the usual police theme and slapped on a few logs and bricks... and changed up the vehicles a bit. I do like the new "uniform" for the figures... the blue shirt and tan hat. But, I guess I was thinking the theme would involve more of a change of scenery (well, we do get some rocks and a bear) and different activities for the officers (more thieves to chase? yay). Not to be critical or anything. Just different from what I was expecting, I guess. I do have to say this is the first time I've been slightly interested in a fire-fighting theme... probably because trees are involved. At first glance, the city vehicles didn't seem too impressive. I was excited about the camper initially, and while nothing in the photo wowed me, I must complete my collection. I do like the look. I'll probably also get the garbage truck... would be a useful thing to have around town.
  18. Overall, they're better than I was expecting! I'll definitely pick up a few of the building-oriented ones.
  19. I remember this episode.... just the first shot of the building was enough to remind me because I remembered that very interesting building with the porches. Watching Hell's Kitchen right now.
  20. How did you attach the head/flower on the shorter sunflower? I've been studying your technique.
  21. These buildings look really good put back-to-back! Great idea!
  22. B-RV-10B Two town houses in a row. These are not inspired by anything specific, just a general memory. They also fit with my classic 80s sensibility. This was the second thing I built after I returned from my Dark Ages. My first was the farmhouse I'm still working on... From the back... Living area of the green house. Dad is making Saturday breakfast; the rest of the house is pretty quiet. Mom is having a lie-in while the younger son just woke up (older son is in the garden on his skateboard). I think I need to fix those cracks in the roof. People are more active in the red home. Mom is cooking breakfast. I made a corner bench around the table in the dining area. As both these homes have four people living in them, they need seating for four people! Dad and son are having a chat in the living room before he leaves for work. Bedrooms... master bedroom in the middle, daughter's nook under the eaves, son's bedroom up in the loft, and a bathtub in the tiny bathroom. Just don't try to stand up! I would say the gardens and fences are the most Slovak part of this build... I like walking along the streets and looking at the gardens. My Brickshelf gallery...
  23. I think the grey panels on the clock tower are 45 degree roof slopes stacked on top of each other??
  24. This is definitely my favorite town! I love how detailed it is, and historically accurate (from what I can tell). I love the clapboard/siding on your buildings... never thought of doing that! That clock tower is splendid. LOVE everything. I could go on and on...
