LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, I'm definitely a little perplexed about how we've had the entire summer wave minus one set leak, with pictures of one, and we're still in the dark about this spring set. I know that some rumors point to it being either a Lego or retail exclusive, which typically leaks a bit later, but we have known about this set for quite a while, unlike the August exclusive that pretty much just popped up a week or so ago. If it is the Duel on Exsogal set, it at least makes sense as to why it was kept under wraps for so long, due to spoilers, but that's purely speculation (and also because I'm not totally sure what they'd put at a $70 price point as the only system scale set in the wave). -
Was also gonna send a few battle pack ideas, I promise I didn't intentionally copy some of these! Just was going movie by movie trying to figure out what the best battle packs could be. There is some overlap between a few of these: TPM: Gungan Forces Battle pack - 3x Gungan Warriors, 1x Gungan General, build is a Kaadu with the little cart behind it Droid Battle Pack - 4x B1 battle droids, 1x droid commander, 2x security battle droid. Build is a small command station Trade Federation Battle Pack - 2x security battle droids, 3x Nemoidians, 2x Droideka. No build, just the droidekas. AoTC: Clone Battle Pack - 3x Phase I clones (maybe two with blasters, one with a rifle), 1x Gunship pilot. Build is a small gunner station or speeder Droid Battle Pack - 4x Genosis Battle Droids, 4x Super Battle Droids. Build is some sort of troop carrier Geonosis Battle Pack - 2x Genosian Warriors, 3x Super Battle Droids. Build is a mini version of a Genosis ion cannon RoTS: Separatist Elite Troops Battle Pack - 2x Super Battle Droid, 2x Magnaguard, 2x Droidekas. Build is a small turret. Clone Pilot Battle Pack - 4x Clone Pilots (ARC-170/V-Wing pilots, two with the open face helmets, two with the full clone helmets, like the 2005 figures). Build is a mini-scale ship based on either an ARC-170 or V-Wing Mygeeto Troopers Battle Pack - Basically the Utapau Battle Pack except Ki-Adi-Mundi's troopers. The build is the same spinning rocket droid, since that as actually featured in the scene from the movie, IIRC Coruscant Troops Battle Pack - 2x Shock Troopers, 2x Royal Guard. Build is a Senate pod, with obligatory stud shooters RO: Jedha Battle Pack - Benthic, 3x other of Saw's Troops. Build is a small tan structure that has a gun and maybe exploding feature. Jedha Troopers Battle Pack - 2x Imperial Tank Driver, 1x Stormtrooper, 1x Imperial Droid. Build is a mini version of the imperial hover tank. Eadu Battle Pack - 2x Death Trooper, 1x Imperial Engineer, 1x Stormtrooper. Build is a gun turret. Scarif Battle Pack - 2x Shoretrooper, 1x Imperial Landing Crew, 1x Death Trooper. Build is a pam tree embankment with a gun feature. ANH: Sandtrooper Battle Pack - 4x Sandtroopers, two with orange pauldrons, two with black. Speeder bike build. Death Star Battle Pack - 2x Death Star Troopers, 1x Death Star Droid, 1x Imperial Officer, 1x mouse droid. Build is a gun turret like the one in the Death Star Cannon or the Death Star Gunner Battle Pack. Yavin IV Battle Pack - 2x Rebel Troopers, 1x Rebel Commander, 1x Rebel Ground Crew. Build is a small trooper carrier sled. ESB: Hoth Battle Pack - 4x Rebel Troopers, build is a small snowbank for them to hide behind. Snowtroopers Battle Pack - Remake of the 2011 version, 2x Snowtroopers, 1x AT-AT driver, 1x Imperial General. Small command station and a speeder bike. If that's too much, replace the speeder with a probe droid and the black ground-mounted cannon that the snowtroopers used. Bespin Battle Pack - 2x Ugnaughts, 2x Bespin Guard. Build is either a mini Cloud Car or a maybe a small diorama scene. Similar to the Tatooine Battle Pack, but I want more Ugnaughts and guards for my Cloud City RoTJ: Sail Barge Battle Pack: 2x Weequay Pirate, 1x human palace guard, 1x Gamorrean Guard. Build is a mini skiff. Endor Battle Pack - 2x Rebel Commandoes, 2x Ewoks. Small tree build with a place for figures to hide, maybe a stud shooter incorporated into it. Scout Troopers Battle Pack - 4x Scout Troopers. Build is 2x speeder bikes. Endor Troopers Battle Pack - 2x Stormtroopers, 1x Scout Trooper, 1x Imperial Trooper. Build is another tree-cover type deal.

I definitely agree, this year so far has been one of the stronger years in recent memory. New stuff that people have been asking for for a while, remakes of things like the Duel on Mustafar (that hasn't had a proper set in fifteen years, not counting Anakin's fighter that came with two small dueling floaty platforms), one of the best battle packs in a while, and we still have the Mando AT-ST on the shelves. Even though the summer wave is smaller, we're getting two "bonus" sets with the Razor Crest and the unknown retail exclusive, and there's an appeal to both prequel and OT fans. Not specific to this year, but we've also seen a lot more sets in recent years that we likely never would've gotten in the past, like the Death Star Cannon or Death Star Escape, that are more location-based dioramas rather than vehicles or battle-focused sets. -

My whole point wasn't that we'd get Ahsoka or Maul, I was attempting to address the people above me who were wondering what scene/season the BARC set was based off of and therefore attempting to figure out if we'd get any specific clones or not. I'm saying that it's very unlikely that the set even has anything to do with a specific scene and is just a generic speeder, walker and clones with two droids to fight against. Personally I couldn't care less what regiment the clones are from, I'm just saying that show accuracy is not a priority when it comes to Clone Wars stuff. -

I mean, a lot of Clone Wars sets aren't specifically based off of one scene or location or season even. The major exceptions I can think of are Yoda's ship, Grievous' speeder (which was a really weird choice to begin with) and the Umbara sets. Even those sets, though, still blended seasons or episodes together. Mace Windu didn't even fight Grievous during The Clone Wars (at least, not the Filoni show), and Ahsoka was included in an Umbara set that she had nothing to do with. A lot of the sets, especially ship-based are very ambiguous as far as the specific episode they're supposed to represent, and so they blend minifigures or don't necessarily go for 100% accuracy on every element of the sets. I'm honestly expecting that all of the Clone Wars based sets we receive are just supposed to be "sometime in TCW" as we may or may not see an AAT, BARC, or AT-RT in this season. But realistically, we have no idea what the clones are based off of, but I would say that it's probably unlikely to get anything more than Rex's troops. And like another person said, plain white troops are also a possibility. -

not sure if there's a hint being dropped here, but I will say, LEGO would be insane to not do a SW CMF set if the license would permit it. I'm assuming the Harry Potter one sells decently well, but SW collectors are a whole 'nother breed. -
Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure how to include them. I suppose you could put K-2SO into the Jedha ambush set, but he wasn't totally there in that scene. Bodhi's most important scenes all involved the cargo shuttle or Saw's base, but I didn't think Saw's base would warrant a set, as it was in the movie for about five minutes and ended up getting destroyed pretty much instantly. I like the AOTC ideas, definitely echo the idea that we need a remake of the Coruscant Speeder chase, and would love a Jango's Slave I, as that's probably the only way we could get a Kaminoian figure (similar to how Boba's always includes random bounty hunters). TPM is probably the hardest one to come up with a full wave for, I really only have a couple of BP and larger set ideas. So many of the locations are just massive (Droid control ship, Theed Palace, Gungan City) that it's hard to put them into a set size.

I wouldn't even use the word rumor at this point, I think it's almost entirely people speculating that a BARC + AT-RT could mean that there's an unusually large number of clones in the set. I think if it's true that it does come with an AT-RT (I don't even know who the initial source on the AT-RT was, I just know that BARC is for sure coming), at least two clones make sense, as there would need to be drivers for both vehicles, but anything more than that seems like wishlisting. I could be wrong, obviously, and I have no insider info, but I think tempering expectations until we actually get pictures is probably the wise thing to do. Especially when Youtube "leaks" often turn out to be false. -
Ah, that makes sense about the Hammerheads. And yeah, making that list was almost painful because I think I'd buy almost all of those too, but I don't think we've gotten a single RO set since the Scarif Battle set that came slightly after the initial wave. I'm not sure what their set plans are for anthology films, but I'm hoping that we'll get more stuff, especially since most fans seem to have really liked RO. Love the Jedi Temple and Duel on Invisible Hand ideas especially, and I bet a lot of people would like an AT-UT given that we've never had one yet. I feel like the Invisible Hand set is a no-brainer, it's got appeal to collectors and some decent playability features (collapsible balcony, maybe some rotating platforms for the figures to "duel" on). Hopefully we get something like it soon. I also might toss in a figure suggestion, Jocasta Nu for the Temple, since that's probably the only way we'd ever get her, and she's made sense in the Archives section.

Continuing with the "one movie wave" theme, now might be the right time to send my picks for Rogue One Rebel Troopers Battle Pack - 1x Blue Squadron Rebel pilot, 2x Rebel troopers (tan/green outfits from Scarif), 1x Mon Cala officer. Build is some sort of command station with a palm tree, maybe representing the master switch for the comms tower. $14.99 Scarif Troopers Battle Pack (probably the one I'd want the most honestly) - 2x Scarif Beach Troopers, 1x Death Trooper, 1x Imperial Landing Crew (the guys with helmets similar to Death Star gunners, Jyn wears one of their outfits in disguise). A build similar to the other battle pack, really just something that could easily be combined with it to form a small battle scene. Battle of Scarif - Something similar to the smaller Hoth battle dioramas that we get from time to time, maybe a couple of palm trees, some crates for cover, and some of the communication stations that we see on the various landing pads. Includes a Stormtrooper, Rebel Trooper, and Baze Malbus. $29.99 Jedha Ambush - A small tower connected to a medium-size bridge build. Tower has an exploding feature. Also some general crates or other debris for figures to hide behind. Includes Benthic, another of Saw's troops, Cassian, 2x Stormtrooper. $49.99 Eadu Landing Pad - Similar in idea to the Scarif landing pad we had, but slightly bigger of a pad has a small building on one side with a gunner station on top that can explode to simulate the TIE fighter crashing into it. Pad is big enough to fit a small ship and has some crates and other stuff around on it. Includes Jyn Erso, Galen Erso, Chirrut Imwe, 2x Death Trooper, and Director Krennic. $79.99 Hammerhead Corvette - A bit larger than an X-Wing. Space for 2 figures inside, plus some working missiles/guns on the sides. Includes 2x Rebel pilot (I'm not entirely sure what squadron flew these, so it'd depend on that I suppose), an Astromech droid, and Admiral Raddus. $99.99 Imperial Cargo Shuttle - Larger than the U-Wing. Features are folding wings, a cargo bay that can fit a handful of minifigures, and a cockpit with space for 1-2 figs. Includes Bodhi Rook, 3x Rebel troopers, and 2x Stormtroopers. $119.99 Scarif Citadel Tower - Sort of similar in shape and size to Vader's Castle, but a bit larger. The bottom level would extend out a bit to represent the transport sideways-elevator things and have a sliding door. First level would be similar to a Death Star corridor. Second level would be the command level. Third level would be the data vault behind some glass, could somehow include the actual tower of files that Jyn/Cassian can climb. Also includes the control station for K2-SO to operate. This could connect to the roof, which would contain the communication antenna and bridge where the level is. Includes Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, Director Krennic, K2-SO, 2x Death Troopers, 2x Stormtroopers, Imperial Officer. $149.99 The only thing missing is a set that includes Saw Gerrera. Not totally sure how to work him into a set but I think I got every other major character from the movie except Tarkin/Vader (but they're in other stuff too).

That's pretty much where I'm at. I think it's possible that the set maybe comes with Captain Rex and another clone, but there seems to be a contingent of people who have rationalized that BARC + AT-RT = 8 minifigures. When was the last time a $30 set had more than, say, 4 figures? I'm thinking at most we get 3 clones and maybe a droid or two. Like I said in my previous comment, until one of the leakers on here says something (and I believe most of them have said "We don't know" to anything regarding minifigures), this reeks of wishlisting. The people on here have been more reliable than pretty much any youtube leaker and their sources (some of these guys have about a .300 batting average when it comes to reliably predicting sets, and at that point, I'm assuming they could just be guessing), so I'm sticking with what Eurobricks sources are saying. -

The A-Wing also logically makes sense. If the poll was an indication that they're looking to either continue with OT UCS stuff, but start to get a bit more obscure, or go with prequel UCS stuff if that got enough support, the A-Wing is the last major vehicle from the OT we've never received (Other than, and I say this completely seriously, a Landspeeder UCS set, which is a bit surprising to me, given how well-known that vehicle is). That could leave open the possibility for an MBS/playset-like UCS set in the fall, then Lego would've used the poll as a way to gauge if the May UCS set next year should either continue on with OT stuff or start to add in more prequel sets. This is just me speculating at this point, but from the standpoint of "Does this rumor actually seem like it could happen", I'd be inclined to believe it just because a UCS A-Wing makes sense. -

I’m inclined to say it’s fake for two reasons. First, proven reliable sources on here have been saying recently that we have zero indication about the minifigures other than Grievous’ ship, and even with that, we only have 2/3 confirmed. Until one of them says something, (or “you know who” from Instagram) I’m not believing any minifigure rumors. Secondly, he/a lot of internet LSW fans have been wishlisting a set with a bunch of 501st troopers for years now. I’m willing to hazard a guess here that this may have been a situation where someone saw people (maybe even in this thread) speculating about the possibility of the set being a larger battle pack, which results in a game of telephone being played, and it ends up being a “rumor” despite clearly starting off as speculation. Basically, until someone we know is 100% reliable says anything, I’d assume everything is totally speculation. -
I like the idea of the Detention Block shootout and trash compactor sets. If they did something like that and made them compatible like you said, I’d definitely buy that, and I think it’s possible given how they’ve made two Death Star scene dioramas recently. Also, a homestead set would be great. I’d almost like to see it a bit larger (more like $45-50) and contain two hut builds (similar in size to Yoda’s Hut/Ben’s Hut, slightly smaller maybe), one with the kitchen/dining area and the other with the garage area/droid workshop.
-
Yeah, I was definitely thinking something more akin to the set that came out in 2003-ish, except obviously a lot more detailed and up to today's standards. Probably just a small 8x8 cube that swings open with a bed and cooking pot for the hut. On that note, here's my ROTJ list (same rules, 8 sets, as realistic as possible about what Lego would actually release and filling all the price points, and two battle packs) Endor Battle Pack - 3x Endor Rebel troopers (one with a backpack, the others just general troopers), 1x Ewok. Build is a tree with some sort of exploding feature or an Ewok trap. $14.99 Scout Troopers Battle Pack - 2x Scout Troopers, 1x Stormtrooper, 1x Imperial Trooper (the guys with the black uniforms and helmets). Build is a speeder bike, maybe with a small command station if the piece count can be low enough. $14.99 A-Wing Starfighter - 1x A-Wing Pilot (pick your favorite named pilot here), 1x Rebel ground mechanic. $19.99 Desert Skiff - Lando (guard disguise), Han Solo, Boba Fett, Weequay pirate. Also includes the Sarlacc. $29.99 Endor AT-ST - 2x AT-ST driver, Chewbacca. $39.99 B-Wing - Ten Numb, 1x Rebel ground mechanic, 1x Mon Cala Rebel leader (not Ackbar). Also includes docking station. $69.99 Final Duel - Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, 2x royal guard. Pretty much a remake of the set from a few years back. $79.99 Jabba's Sail Barge - Jabba, Salacious Crumb, R2-D2, Luke, Chewbacca, Weequay Pirate, Quarren guard (Squid Head), Saelt-Marae (unlikely but would be cool), human palace guard, Gammorean guard. Not sure how they could do Leia, as she is an important character, but they no longer make stuff with her in the slave outfit. $99.99 Battle of Endor - Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2-D2, Captain Rex (or whatever his name was at that point), 4x Stormtroopers, 3x Ewoks, Imperial Trooper, Imperial Officer. Includes the bunker with an exploding satellite dish on top, a few smaller tree builds, and two speeder bike. $149.99 I think combining all of the Endor sets here would yield a pretty great scene. Not sure if I should've gone with more space-based sets, but the focus definitely seems to be on Endor for me in that part of the movie.
-
The only prices I'm not sure on are the Bomber and X-Wing pricing. I think the other ones are mostly realistic (considering a Jedi fighter is $20, no reason a Snowspeeder by itself can't be). Bomber might be closer to $80 if they made it and the X-Wing I would guess closer to $100-110, but hey, if it's not a real list, may as well be optimistic with the pricing!
-
Funny you mention that, I've been thinking through my own "Ultimate (insert movie here) wishlist" with the criteria that each one is eight sets with two battle packs, trying to be as realistic as possible. Here was my ESB list: Snowtroopers Battle Pack - 3x Snowtroopers, 1x AT-AT driver. Build is one of the portable cannons they use and a probe droid. $14.99 Rebel Troopers Battle Pack - 1x Snowspeeder pilot, 3x Hoth Rebel Soldiers. Build is some sort of wall with a cannon on it, like the one in the Mandalorian BP but larger. $14.99 Snowspeeder - Luke (pilot), Dak (pilot). $19.99 Battle of Hoth - somewhat similar to a few of the sets we've gotten in the past with a turret and some walls for the Rebels to hide behind, maybe includes a small section of the shield generator. Includes General Rieken, a Rebel trooper, and a Snowtrooper. $29.99 Wampa Cave - small cave build where Luke can hang upside down, also includes space for the Wampa to eat. Comes with a Tauntaun and Wampa, plus Luke and Han. $39.99 TIE Bomber - Comes with TIE pilot, Captain Needa, and another Imperial officer. $59.99 X-Wing with Yoda's Hut - remake of the set from 2003, includes an X-Wing with the ability to add some mossy elements to the wings, perhaps some stickers to show dirt and moss, and a small build for Yoda's hut. Includes Luke in his training clothes, Yoda, and R2-D2. $89.99 Cloud City Escape - A landing pad connected to a moderate size interior build, with the back open for play. Could contain a hallway with a couple of smaller rooms off of it to represent the dining room or Han and Leia's room. Minfigures are Lando, Leia (Hoth), Chewbacca, C-3PO, 2 Stormtroopers, an Imperial officer, and Boba Fett. $129.99

I swear, only Lego Star Wars fans can find a way to spin this as a negative. We're getting a set that people have been asking for basically since the show came out, AND, I might add, that we weren't even supposed to get initially. The early reveal just means that (a) they could control when it dropped, so no time for it to get leaked before a press release, and (b), people stopped complaining that we're not getting Mando stuff. I mean, above all, Lego's a business. They aren't here to please every single person and fulfill their 30 set wishlist. It's nice every year or two when they release a set that makes you go "Oh, wow, I've been wanting that for a while and never got a chance to buy it/it hasn't been released yet!" but to expect them to make every single thing cater exactly to what you want is pretty unrealistic (ie: never going to happen). -
Last night was the first episode where I really thought that it was tough to pick out the two weakest builds. Manny/Nestor's Western scene was really, really good, but it definitely lacked when they added in the aliens. The top two builds were both pretty fantastic in terms of both storytelling and their actual building techniques. I think as the weeks go on and only the best teams are left, it'll get a lot better as we can see each one more than the first few weeks when there'd be a few minutes here and there dedicated to showing the builds.

While I don't necessarily mind the mini-build, I wonder when they had to have this planned/made by. I have a feeling that if they went for a Beskar Mando or a Phase II Commander Cody or something it would be both very topical and likely entice people to buy SW stuff even if they weren't initially planning on it. I'm sure people will be up in arms (again) and going on rants about how Lego's cheating them out of this or that, but it definitely does seem like a potentially missed opportunity. However, if this had been planned for a year or so, I can understand why. -

So it looks like underneath the cockpit area is where the sleeping quarters are, and then on the right side of the ship's rear area are where the carbonite pieces go. Where is this escape pod fitting is what I want to know. -
So to coincide with S7 of TCW, here's my all time, never gonna happen, last major Clone Wars only wave. Kamino Battle Pack ($14.99) Includes 2x Kamino guards, 1x Clone in red uniform, 1x Shiny. Build is based off of the training exercise seen in the Domino Squad episode. Aleen Troopers ($14.99) Includes 3x Wolfpack troopers, 1x Gunship pilot. Generic clone battle pack build, maybe an AT-RT or speeder or something, probably a few crates or something to represent their supply mission. Ahsoka's Jedi Starfighter ($19.99) Based off of her Eta-2 Class starfighter seen near the end of S5. Includes Ahsoka and R7-A7. Escape from Mandalore ($29.99) Based off of the scene where Bo-Katan rescues Obi-Wan in S5. Includes Mandalorian speeder, Obi-Wan in Mandalorian armor, Bo-Katan, and a Death Watch soldier. Florrum Speeder Chase ($34.99) This one specifically would be based off of the episode with young Boba Fett, although there were enough speeder chases on Florrum to where it could be used for any of them. Includes Hondo, an unnamed pirate, Aurra Sing, and Plo Koon. Build is basically 2-3 light speeder bikes and some small accessory builds to represent the area outside the pirate stronghold. Umbaran Fighter ($49.99) Includes Fives, Hardcase, and an Umbaran warrior The Gathering ($64.99) A medium sized cave build with a couple of different branches. Includes Yoda, Gungi, Petro, Katooni, and Byph. Escape from the Citadel ($79.99) Somewhat similar to the Scarif landing pad set, but larger, it would be essentially a landing pad with a semi-circle of walls around it, on top of the walls would be two or three moveable turrets. Lots of various crates or other equipment scattered around the ground with potential to have exploding features. Includes a smaller Separatist shuttle and a STAP. Minifigures would be Evan Piell, Tarkin, Echo, 2x Commando droids, and 2x battle droids (one of which is a reprogrammed droid, the other a CIS droid). AT-TE ($99.99) Similar in size to the previous one. Includes AT-TE driver, AT-TE gunner, 2x clones, and Luminara Unduli Venator Class Cruiser ($129.99) Similar in size to the previous one, but the interior is closer to the bridge often shown in the show rather than Palpatine's office. Includes Admiral Yularen, 2x Clone officers (wearing officer uniforms, not armor), Captain Rex, 2x Clone troopers, and Anakin Skywalker. Republic Gunship ($149.99) Includes Commander Cody, 2x gunship pilot, 2x clones, and Mace Windu.

I'd assume Anakin and Obi-Wan are pretty much entirely confirmed at this point with Grievous' ship and Anakin's interceptor. Based on the trailers/episode so far, they look pretty much identical to how they looked in Ep III, so the figs will be somewhat ambiguous as to which source they're supposed to represent. The AAT or BARC make a lot of sense to put Ahsoka in one and Rex in the other, breaking up the main characters. Plus, the AAT would probably sell significantly better if it had a named character in it as opposed to just, say, two droids and two random clones. That's why I'm confused as to why it seems Lego is choosing not to put Commander Cody in the Grievous set. I would honestly consider it on sale if it had him in it, but without him, eh. -

I've seen a somewhat funny saying around the internet the past few years, "the people that hate Star Wars the most are Star Wars fans." Evidently that seems to have extrapolated to the LEGO world as well. Is it a perfect set? No. Is it pretty accurate to the source material, specifically one that a lot of people have been asking for in the past 2 months? I would say so. Okay, it doesn't include every minifigure, but no one is making you buy it. If it does get a retail release, I can almost guarantee that it won't stay at $130 the whole time it's on the shelves. I think I'll probably end up getting it but am not pre-ordering, I want to wait and see what kind of functionality/interior it has. -

Honestly, while they wouldn't do it, that would also be funny if they did it out of spite to anyone that's going to buy the Razor Crest solely to try to sell off the figures. Mando was around $25 USD on Bricklink for a while, not sure if that's gone down as stores have begun to get the sets back in stock, but I'd imagine that this set won't decrease his value too much since it's rather expensive. I'd guess The Child will be at least $40, if not more.
