LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Man, the more I see the Bo-Katan figure, the more impressed I am with it. Like, this looks like a UCS-quality figure in terms of having printing everywhere (printed arms!), new molded hair, and they recolored the helmet to match the live action version. The version we have now works well for the animated version (the hair they used isn't like 100% accurate, but I feel like it's good enough for her TCW/Rebels appearances), but this is just a stellar minifig. I hope she comes in some other sets, too, though I will probably end up getting this set on sale regardless. -

I fully agree, but I think the cause for concern is that there haven't been any updated retail listings in a while, from what we've heard, at least? Like, it makes total sense to keep the sets themselves deep under wraps, but no listing is just really strange. The exception is that if they're either a S@H/brand store or retailer exclusive, because it seems like those can pop out of nowhere. Which, if you think about it, wouldn't make a ton of sense in terms of widespread sales, but would make a whole lot of sense in terms of preventing leaks, because there's no retail catalogs or anything that can possibly disclose information. -

Wow, that Bo-Katan minifigure looks absolutely fantastic, probably one of the best SW minifigures in recent memory! The robot itself looks good, but the price seems a bit high for the actual size of it. I know piece-wise it's reasonable, but it seems like a lot of small parts. I'll probably wait until it inevitably gets marked down to $35-40 and get it then. I'm assuming the designers didn't have access to material that showed the actual robot guy, because I imagine otherwise he'd have been included, since it could've most likely been built out of standard parts without needing a new mold. -

Interesting. I'm still not sure what to make of it. I'm absolutely convinced it wasn't cancelled/delayed for company guideline purposes (the exception being if they decided to re-work the statue of Kali and push the release date back), because I can't see them giving the okay for blogs/YouTubers to show leaked pictures (seriously, when has that EVER happened before? Not even due to something like this, but just letting them publish leaked pics at all) if that were the case. If it's not that, it would either be the result of a structural issue (in which case a delay makes sense)...or...what else? -

So, quick question - I remember a few months ago it was very unclear if we were getting Jabba's Throne Room or Palpatine's Throne Room as dioramas, then at some point it seems to have become "we're getting both," or something? I know that there were some minifigure details given with Jabba's, but were those legitimate or just speculation? If so, is it possible that it was never coming in the first place and the Palpatine one turned into a game of telephone? -

Alright, so the more that comes out, the more I'm convinced ToD could actually be coming and was just delayed for whatever reason. LEGO allowing leakers to show pictures seems really unusual. If the set were against their internal terms/guidelines, I highly, highly, highly doubt they'd be okay with more images of it being put out there, my guess would be that they'd want to remove as much as possible of it. Especially so because, unlike the Osprey or dynamite factory, no official pictures had been put out, so only a small subset of people had actually seen the pictures (I know a lot of people pay attention to leaks between forums, Instagram, Reddit, etc, but the reality is, the average LEGO consumer has no idea what's coming later in the year, let alone where to find these pictures). The biggest thing is that the descriptions are still up, even after several hours. If they're gone at some point, then that's probably it for the set, but the longer they stay up, the more I feel like we could eventually get this set. The descriptions aren't just "oh haha LEGO incompetent" but they're something that a team of copywriters has to get okayed and most likely has to have someone from a legal team give it a once-over and approve it. This isn't just something that someone typed up an hour before the products appeared online. I can promise you that someone within LEGO is aware of the fact that the ToD is listed in the description, and if it were truly an Osprey situation, that 100% would've been taken down by now. Some of this is probably wishful thinking on my part, but I think this does at least tell us that the set wasn't pulled for content reasons, otherwise the entire thing would've been probably been erased from existence, at least as much as LEGO can go about doing that. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Diorama ideas: Duel on Mustafar - half of the build is a lava sea with some bits of rock, and a "floating" platform for Anakin to stand on. The other section is the beach and a small mountain section for Obi-Wan to stand on. Quote is "It's over Anakin, I have the high ground" Mos Eisley Cantina - Would probably have to wait until the MBS Cantina retires, but I think this one would make sense down the line. Essentially a larger version of two booths, one with chairs laid out for Han/Chewbacca to talk to Obi-Wan/Luke, and one where Greedo confronts Han. There could be a few chairs/tables in the foreground, but it would mostly be based around those sections, with a lot more details than we've previously gotten in Cantina builds. It would have two quotes, one under each booth. "You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?" under one, and "Over my dead body" under the other. Includes Han, Chewbacca, Luke, Obi-Wan, and Greedo. I think getting five minifigures in a diorama is a bit unrealistic, but I couldn't decide if the quote should be based around the Greedo vs. Han scene or the scene where the audience meets Han. Cloud City trap - the dining room on Cloud City. I would probably have it laid out with three walls, the one on the left containing the door, with Vader's chair being to the right. They could maybe do some sort of forced perspective thing with windows and having some stuff visible outside. Minifigures are Han, Vader, Lando, Boba Fett, and Chewbacca. Quote is "We would be honored if you would join us." Battle of Hoth - Two micro-scale AT-ATs, a micro-scale AT-ST, a micro scale downed AT-AT, multiple micro-scale snowspeeders, and a shield generator and Echo base doors. Quote is "Rogue Group, use your harpoons and tow cables, go for the legs. Iit might be our only chance of stopping them" Death Star duel - DS hallway with Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader. Quote is "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." Droid Escape Pod - A desert scene with a small piece of Krayt dragon skeleton, some dunes, and the crashed escape pod. Minifigures are R2-D2 and C-3PO. Quote is "What a desolate place this is." Ben's Hut - A detailed and much larger interior build of Ben's hut (compared to the actual set). Includes R2-D2, the Leia hologram, Ben, C-3PO, and Luke. The quote could either be "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope," or "An elegant weapon for a more civilized age," maybe including both and having the option to swap them out. Bounty Hunters - Star Destroyer bridge section with the bounty hunters. Includes Darth Vader, IG-88, Bossk, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Dengar, and Boba Fett. Quote is "No disintegrations. As you wish." Destruction of Scarif - Micro-scale build of Scarif, with the beach and citadel tower, along with some of the cargo landing pads, as well as some micro AT-ACTs and Imperial cargo shuttles. There would be a laser beam hitting the top of the citadel tower and a simulated explosion on part of the terrain. Quote is "Rogue One, may the Force be with you." Jedha City - Micro-scale Jedha City build with a Star Destroyer above it, and a couple of cargo shuttles flying. Quote is "What are they bringing in? It's 'what are they taking out?' Kyber crystals." Duel of the Fates - Room with the reactor shaft where the Duel of the Fates ends. One side has a section of the laser wall, the other sides are rounded, with a pit in the middle. Includes Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon (with a double sided head), and Darth Maul. Quote is "Promise me you will train the boy," or "He is the Chosen One. He will bring balance. Train him." -

Saw a post on Reddit that someone has found the Indy sets at Fred Meyer in Orgeon, which I believe is the first major chain store someone has found them at? They showed a picture of the plane chase and said that they had the others as well (not sure if that's just the plane and Lost Tomb or if it also includes the diorama). -

The part about it being from the first two episodes was just conjecture on my part, since typically with these reveals during the run of the show, they seem to do it after the subject matter of the set has already been featured in an episode. I know that was the case with the pirate fighter, I remember it also happened with Mando's N-1 last year during TBoBF, and I believe it was the case two years ago/whenever that was with Trouble on Tatooine (don't recall exactly on that one). Since it's on a Tuesday and the episode next week won't come out until Wednesday, that was just my assumption, unless they're deviating from the previous pattern and it's something we haven't seen yet, but isn't spoiler-y, but that doesn't make a lot of sense, because otherwise, we probably would've known the name of the set already (as we do with the Fang + TIE). I'd gather than we'll probably see the Fang + TIE set revealed shortly after those ships appear in the season, too. -

LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

It’s probably because they didn’t really start heavily making clone stuff again until 2020/2021, and since then, they’ve devoted most of the army builders to various legions. In 2020, they did a 501st set and the AAT with a 332nd trooper. The 501st was highly requested, 332nd was relevant to TCW. Everything else was either based on other properties or larger (and therefore not really an army builder). 2021 went very heavy on Mandalorian/TBoBf sets, along with some OT remakes that were pretty necessary (it had been a while since we’d had cheap X-Wings and TIE Fighters, and since those sets are still on shelves as of 2023, I take it they sell very well). The only clone set we got was the Bad Batch shuttle. In 2022, the cheaper, army builder type sets saw the fighter tank (187th), clone accessory pack (P1 clones), snowtroopers, Hoth rebels, and Dark Trooper sets. Dark Troopers was based around Mando and I assume pushed back because of spoilers, and the other two were definitely supposed to be paired against each other (and tied in with both AT-ATs). Then we got the 2023 501st BP, the Swamp Speeder (which will almost assuredly contain at least 2-3 clones, legion unknown), and that’s basically all we know as far as cheap sets coming up. My point is that since they’ve started going back to making more TCW based sets, there have been approximately two or three army builders that haven’t been clone sets. The 501st set obviously sold well enough to justify a second, the P1 clones made sense as a way to tie into the Gunship, and we don’t know what’s coming with the swamp speeder. The only one that was a weird choice was the 187th, but I’m assuming they wanted to incentivize people to buy it by including some unique figures that are more eye-catching than just plain white armor. To someone that’s a casual collector or a kid that doesn’t care as much, they’d probably rather have a clone that’s purple than a white one. They’re not going to make literally every TCW/prequel set clone based, and they still have to make sets for the OT and the shows that are currently in production (evidently Mandalorian sets must sell well considering how many they make). It’s not because they “hate” any sort of fans, it’s because prequel stuff probably didn’t sell well enough in the mid 2010s to justify devoting large portions of their lineup to it, and now recently, it’s become more popular, but there hasn’t been a spot in their lineup to do a set that’s just plain clones. -

So, I watched the just2good review of the set, a couple of observations - - I feel like the Indy face looks a lot better than I initially thought, I think it's more accurate than it's been getting credit for, and I really like the figure with the new hat. - It fully did not register with me that Marion's legs are dual molded. I saw that the dress only went partway down her legs (which looks better than the original figure having the white legs), but I guess I just assumed that was a print and not a full dual mold. I think this set has the strongest minifigure lineup of the entire wave. Marion is a definite improvement over the original, Sallah was overdue, and Indy looks good overall. - I noticed that just2good showed the instruction manual, which I hadn't seen before. The front cover just shows the set on a white background. Now, I haven't purchased any 2023 sets yet, so I don't know if that's something that other themes are doing too, but that struck me as very odd, since generally it shows the model on a background either similar to the box art, or something to do with the set. The only time I've seen it on a blank background are UCS sets with a black background that matches the box art. I wonder if this meant that there were original instructions that had some previews in the back (maybe with ToD?) that had to be pulled and replaced last minute, hence the less-than-colorful artwork? -

Hold up, the $80 price doesn't make sense, because there were pictures of it in store being sold for $46.99 USD. I assume that toy store is using MSRP and then adding a few bucks (because a lot of the smaller chains tend to do that), so I feel like that's gotta be a mistake on Target's part. -

Interesting, if that's the case, I feel like that bodes well for us getting either the ToD eventually, or getting something from ToD that contains the figure. I can't think of any instance where a preview of a set/figure was shown on an actual box/instruction sheet that wasn't released, except the Osprey and dynamite factory, both of which were publicly addressed. The closest thing I can think of was an ad for a Space Police III video game on the side of a box in, like, 2007 or so, which never saw the light of day, but that's a bit different. -

Yeesh, you'd think there's people who secretly want the DoD sets to be canceled so that we can get another litany of complaints about how much LEGO sucks in this thread. There's literally no evidence to suggest that they're canceled other than some speculation that's become the world's worst game of telephone. From what I gather, we had leakers saying they haven't heard anything (which seems totally reasonable since we've basically had two short trailers and a few promotional shots of the film so far, that's basically it. Even the Hasbro toys that have been shown have been primarily from the older movies) and some stuff about retail listings not being updated (which also doesn't necessarily indicate things aren't coming, if they're retail/S@H exclusives, or perhaps the retailers just don't have the info. There were set numbers assigned, though, so it's not like the listings never existed in the first place). All of these theories about how they're canceling sets because of the content of the movies and stuff seem totally baseless. With ToD, maybe, but leakers keep saying there's multiple reasons (some clarification on that would be nice to have at some point), which I have to imagine might encompass some sort of flaw with the build itself. All I'm saying is that people seem to be basically coming up with reasons to be angry, and then getting angry at them, when the reason itself has never been shown to be true in the first place. On the topic of ToD, has anyone actually confirmed if the set is shown on the box of any of the new sets? I saw someone mention that the instructions don't have any sets listed in them, but I seem to remember like one person saying the side flap showed the Temple of Doom - is that true? And was that referring to a screenshot from the movie, or a picture of the set? -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kit Figsto replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
They're not going to do any official announcement about the DoD sets except to say that they're coming (assuming they are). Nothing was ever confirmed by LEGO (same with the ToD), so there would be no reason for them to talk about cancelling sets unless they were actually unveiled officially. If anything is cancelled, the only way we're ever going to hear about it would be through a Q&A with designers. I saw someone say that one of the boxes has a pic of the ToD set. If that's the case, I'm wondering if it's cancelled and it was too late to remake the boxes (so any subsequent production of these sets will remove that) or if it'll be delayed. Also, has anyone figured out where exactly the sets were spotted? I've seen two different store pictures, and both seemed to be in America? Neither of them looked like big box retails, it appeared to be smaller, independent toy stores. Has anyone seen any info on where they were obtained? -

Man, I'm torn. It's tough to see anything really substantial from that picture other than the size of it, but it looks good from what we can see. The reason I say torn is because I told myself i wasn't getting the Idol Temple set (I have the 2008 version already, and my plan had been to buy the Well of the Souls set for sure, and most likely the Temple of Doom). I'm definitely getting the Well of the Souls set, since I missed the original and Sallah is one of my favorite characters, so I'm super happy he's finally coming, but now I'm unsure. Since the ToD set is questionable, I'm a little tempted now to possibly buy the Raiders temple instead. I guess I'll wait until the summer and see what happens with the Dial of Destiny sets and/or if we get the ToD at any point, because if it's truly just these three sets coming, I might just grab all three and call it good. It seems...less likely that we're getting any more original Indy sets, so I'd been holding out hoping for maybe a truck chase remake or a Holy Grail temple set, but if it would just be these three, I wouldn't have to worry about saving money to get future Indy sets . At this point I'm just assuming these three are going to be the only sets we get, and if we get any more, that's awesome. Either way, I'm excited to see official photos of all of the sets. -

Interesting, so how does that work? I'm not arguing, I'm legitimately curious. Do you mean that the licensing costs are essentially averaged out and divided among their total costs per year/cycle (not sure if they would look at that quarterly or what, since they're not a public company, so I assume they can just sort of do whatever as far as their accounting methods). EDIT: Actually, I found their balance sheet from 2021 and looked into it a bit. It looks like they just lump licensing costs in with production costs, but I'm not sure how that gets reflected into an individual set's production and/or a theme's budget, since it doesn't seem like the balance sheet goes that deep into it. -

I'm not defending the price, but you do have to consider that licensed sets are almost always more expensive than unlicensed, I assume because of the cost associated with using an IP. So comparing it to, say, the holiday sets, they're always going to be cheaper because there's fewer costs associated (this is pure conjecture, but it also might be simply cheaper to produce them because of simpler packaging/instructions, and likely less time to design. I'm not sure if those costs are factored in, but I would imagine on a large scale, they would add up over time. But, I digress). It also seems as though there's a lot of 18+ sets lately that have been priced higher than they probably should, but after a few months, end up getting marked down at Target or wherever to a better price. For example, a lot of the diorama sets are constantly on sale, and I don't think it's because they're selling poorly, but I think it's just one of those things where they might price it higher than it actually should be, but mark it down so that subconsciously, you feel as though you're getting a much better deal if you buy it. So, I agree that this is overpriced, hopefully it ends up marked down to $50-60 or so, which seems a little reasonable in my opinion. On the subject of Mando S3, what info do we have so far on the sets? I know that a Mandalorian figure leaked a few weeks ago, do we know what sets we're getting? I saw some people speculating above about one of the sets which would've been featured in today's episode, are we confirmed getting that? -

This seems to be the though process with a lot of their non-character specific vehicles from both the OT and PT. Unless there's a character that can be closely associated with a vehicle (Luke's X-Wing, young Anakin in a Naboo N-1 fighter, etc), they seem to take a lot of creative license with putting figures in with vehicles. Like, the last two versions of the Fighter Tank came with Aayla Secura and some clones, and then Mace Windu and some clones. We also got Mace Windu in with Grievous's speeder (which was still one of the strangest set decisions, to me), Rae Sloane in the TIE Bomber, a Death Star droid with the TIE, even Ahsoka in the AAT wasn't really based on a specific scene from TCW Season 7, if I remember correctly. I think that this wouldn't be too outlandish, although is it insane if I said that I actually would prefer Aayla + Bly + two 327th troopers? I just say that because Rex is inevitable at some point, but I feel like we're less likely to get Bly thrown into a set. -

What's interesting is that I actually feel as though the same was the case in 2008/09. I was a young kid at the time, and I still distinctly remember getting the catalog in the mail with the Temple Escape set featured on the front. I had never heard of Indiana Jones at all, but the sets looked so cool to me. Interestingly, that was actually what prompted me to ask my parents about the movies, and eventually to rent Raiders on DVD to watch. So, without the LEGO sets, I never would've become a fan of the franchise (and to this day, they're still some of my favorite movies of all time). Anyway, point being, I feel like the thing that LEGO has going for it moreso than Funko Pops or Hasbro merchandise is that LEGO's appeal is going to be a bit broader, especially to kids who don't know what the movies are. I'm not sure if a kid that doesn't know anything about Indy would be inclined to buy a Funko or an action figure of Indiana Jones, but there's a chance that kid might see the LEGO set and be interested. Hopefully that means we're getting some Indy 5 sets, but who knows? -

I think the issue is that TBoBF Boba is available in a cheaper set ($10 microfighter), so there's some overlap there. I suppose that could be a good litmus test as to whether or not mechs or microfighters sell better, though, since having two of the same figure on the shelves at the same time (the only difference being their vehicle) would be an interesting way to see which people prefer. But, I agree that kids probably don't really care. At least when I was a kid, I would've known the difference between different variants, but I wouldn't have made a point to collect all of the variations. If I got one Boba, that was good enough. -
I will say, if you're looking for the N-1, if you have Costco, some people have managed to find that there for like $25-30, which is kind of an insane deal (even though the set probably should've only retailed for like $40-45 to begin with). Not sure if that deal still exists, but if you're looking at the N-1, could be worth checking for that.
