  1. "Childish" is meant to be an insult, but really childhood is the best part of most peoples lives (the Fritzl family aside). The things I felt as a child that could be improved upon were not having enough cash to buy toys and do cool stuff and grown-ups telling me what I could and couldn't do. By not caring about other peoples perceptions of you and being true to yourself you are doing yourself a great service. Simon Pegg said in an interview a while back that being a geek just meant being true to yourself and embracing the things you love and obsess about. I actually feel sorry for people who don't have something like that in their lives. I started skateboarding when I was 6, I'm 45 next week. I still skate, Ironically its more acceptable now than when I started. When I was a teenager you had to make a conscious choice between skating and having a girlfriend. Nowadays it seems you can have both. I've never really given a monkeys what other people think about what I do and continuing to do things I enjoy as an adult is liberating as hell. What is the cut-off age for doing things you enjoy? Pretty sure it's when you stop enjoying them and thats yourdecision and no one elses.
  2. Cheers for the welcome. I'm currently grappling with building compound car bodywork shapes from technic panels, third attempt and hopefully this time it will look something like i imagined it would rather than a pile of random bits trying to be a car! thats the fun though right? when it 'clicks'.
  3. Hi everyone. I'm Andy. I've been building stuff with Lego for around 40 years now but with a 25 year gap in the middle. I've only ever really been into Technic (and spaceships, cos everyone loves a spaceship, right?) as I'm fascinated by how things work. I'm not really bothered by building official sets either. I just love the creativity and immediacy of building my thoughts. I have been building a 1:7ish scale model of an RS200 for about a year now. Its been quite a learning curve as when I stopped using lego in my teens it was a different beast to modern Technic! I'm really glad I came back to Lego though as there aren't many things that I enjoy more than faffing about making stuff and solving problems after a hard day at work faffing about making stuff and solving problems. Anyway, thats enough of me rambling, this place is great! I'm off to look at some of the incredible things that people on here have made.
