  1. The reason I jump to that conclusion is because it looks like either there's a sticker of a crescent moon on the door of that small building, or there's actually a crescent moon cut out of the door (maybe that would be a new piece? I don't keep track of these things). In the US, the crescent moon on a door like that would traditionally indicate an outhouse. And this certainly wouldn't be new territory for Lego - didn't they have a small City set several years back that consisted of a truck that was picking up a port-a-potty, or something along those lines?
  2. Is that little shed to the right an outhouse?!
  3. I agree. I don't think there's any lack of interest, there just hasn't been much to talk about since the blurry photo got leaked. I saw enough in that photo to believe that I'm going to be happy with the set this year, and I'm content to wait until we see more detailed photos in the next couple weeks before discussing the set further. But not for a second would I think there's lack of interest. It looks like it's going to be a great set with some interesting architecture.
  4. I agree with this interpretation. In the US, a lodge could be a private residence, or it can be a more public facility where people rent rooms. I'm guessing it's the latter in this case, but either way, I'm liking the look of the architecture of the main building in this set. I'm hoping this building is exactly "rustic but fancy," which is largely what I envision when I think of a lodge. I'd be equally satisfied if this set is a smaller version of the BL Winter Chalet set, or if this ends up being another single family home for the village. Either way, I think I'm pretty happy with this year's entry to the WV line. A pleasant return to form after last year's departure.
  5. I agree - to me, a lodge is more of an inn. I'm guessing it'll be something along those lines (maybe borrowing from the Bricklink Winter Chalet set)
  6. That sounds outstanding! A WV lodge, and finally a promo that is compatible with the WV line - been forever since we got a proper one of those. Really looking forward to leaked pictures, but I'm guessing those are still 6 weeks away
  7. Over the years, as the WV theme has become increasingly popular, they've really tightened up the time frame between set reveal and release, and it's been pushed later in the fall. I believe that I can remember learning about the set in late August or early September, and at least VIP's would have access in mid-September. But in recent years it seems like they've kept a very tight lid on the set, and we're not learning much until mid-late September, with an October 1st release date for all. So I agree that we probably have 60+ days left to speculate.
  8. It's getting a little quiet here, so I think I'll stir the pot with some guesses about this year's WV set before any legitimate information leaks start to appear. 1) Sweet Shoppe - to me, this has been an obvious choice for years (and probably what they should've done with the gingerbread house set). The WV already has a bakery, but it absolutely needs a good candy store. 2) Dime Store/Department Store - it would be nice to have somewhere to buy gifts besides the two (three if you count the re-release) toy stores the WV already has. Not sure if the terminology is similar in Europe, but in the US at both a dime store or department store one would find a variety of items, such as clothing, gadgets, toys, food and more. Something like this would fit quite well into a WV. 3) Main Street Part 2 - I'm not particularly a fan of the architectural departure that we saw in last year's set. However, now that we have that set, I feel that we need a couple more buildings in a similar style to make for a respectable downtown or "main street" area. You could go any number of directions with the stores in another such set - I would just ask that they not duplicate any more WV sets the way the toy store essentially did in last year's set. 4) Town Hall - a quaint, but respectable, town hall would work well in the WV. I would also suggest that one minifigure that might come with such a set could be a Constable, and thus let the Town Hall set double as a police HQ. I just don't see TLG ever releasing a standalone police station in the WV line...at least, not for quite some time. 5) Lodge/Restaurant - the Winter Chalet set from Bricklink would fit beautifully in the WV line - it just needs to be scaled down a bit. But the idea is solid. Perhaps because the Bricklink set exists, TLG won't do something like this for years, but a lodge/restaurant combo - or either of those concepts on their own - would be a welcome addition to the WV. 6) Grocery Store/Butcher - so many holiday traditions include a large meal. It would make sense to have somewhere to go shopping for the freshest ingredients 7) Jewelry Store - lots of gifts to be had at such a store: rings, necklaces and of course, watches. The set should come complete with the town watchmaker. 8) Another House - I know we got a new house a couple years ago, but I would think we would have several houses in an actual village. Maybe this time we could get one that's not blue. On the topic of the holiday GWP's, I'd really like to see Lego go back to these sets being part of the WV line. At times they've essentially been an addition to the main set that year, like the Christmas Tree stand (40082 & 40083) with the WV Market, and at other times they've stood alone, but fit right into the WV, like the horse and carriage set (3300014) we got towards the beginning of the WV line. I much prefer that type of GWP set to anything we've received in the last 5+ years.
  9. Agreed! It's getting to be that time of year where we might get some clue of what's coming. Not that I'm necessarily hoping for this, but I wonder if they might not do a set that's similar in style to last year's in an effort to build out the "Main Street" area of the WV a bit more.
  10. I'm looking forward to the Himeji Castle - anything new in this line is a welcome change But beyond that, it would be nice to see this line get back to some of its roots, when it focused on buildings that weren't nearly the tourist attractions that recent sets have been. And if interesting locations are chosen, the variety in set size should return. I want sets like the Robie House, but I also want the Farnsworth House. Very different sizes and pricepoints, but equally interesting sets IMO. Instead of this Houses of the World promo line they're running this year, it would be interesting to see Lego put out one single Architecture set annually that is a house in some distinct architectural style. Maybe give some latitude in the piece count (I'm thinking 700 -1000 pieces) - enough to fully develop the architectural style and include some nice details, while not being the size of the annual modular set. It'll probably never happen, but it would really get at what the Architecture line could/should be. I know I would support something like that.
  11. Every quarter the brick & mortar Lego stores have about 6 unique minifigures that are part of the Build-A-Minifigure stations at the stores. In October or November they'll come out with the winter figures, and there are usually a few unique winter-themed figures included.
  12. Are there any photos in the wild that we could be pointed towards?
  13. I share the dismay - such a late reveal date when considering it should be available for sale 10 days later! I guess that means that maybe we'll see a leaked photo a week from today? At the same time, I'm guessing nothing this week at all. I hope they make up for this with some outstanding GWP's.
  14. IMO, the WV line is not set up to run like the City, Star Wars or Friends line. As others have pointed out, WV gets one set each year (I miss the days when there were 1-2 GWP's over the holiday season that also fit into the village - Lego needs to get back to that!) while these other lines put out 10, 20, 30 or more sets annually. The WV line is more akin to the Dept 56 line of collectible winter/holiday buildings, in which you're (theoretically) populating/building your own winter village. I would guess there is some degree of repetition in Dept 56, but I'd be surprised if there are three toy stores in the line - and if there are, they're three buildings out of 50 or 100, or more. The holiday encompasses so much more than toys - Lego needs to recognize this and use it as inspiration.
  15. There are always going to be new fans getting into the Winter Village line, which is great - that's what will keep this line alive. I want to be adding sets to my village 30 years from now! But if Lego thinks they need a new source of toys in the village every so often, they have to find more creative ways to achieve that rather than another toy store. Obviously, there are other types of gifts beyond toys, and that's where more retail shops would be helpful. The music store is a step in that direction, but the village could use a book store, a department store, a jeweler or silversmith or watchmaker, and on and on. They need to look for different venues to sell toys, and they need to develop other sources of gifts. Every five years the last toy store set is going to be too expensive for the new WV fans' taste, but the rest of us aren't interested in another toy store in our village every 5 years. There needs to be another solution. Lego prides itself on creativity - this isn't difficult.
  16. I don't know this account. Does this person have a track record of accurate leaks? As for the rumor, man do I hope it's wrong. How many toy stores do we need? The music store is a nice idea, and I like the concept of having two shops in a set, but if Lego thinks they need to put out another store that sells toys, I wish they would come up with something different than a toy store. Do a general merchandise store that might have toys and food, or a department store that might have toys and clothes - ugly sweaters, anyone?
  17. Even if it's releasing on October 3rd, I could see a reveal next week. I'd hate to think we have 2 or 3 weeks to go still...
  18. Whatever happened with 10173, Lego was bound to come out with a train within the WV line proper. Additionally, the concept changed in a subtle way, with the newer train not being quite as elaborate as 10173. In a similar way, I could see aspects of the Market set get carried over into a new set eventually (like a theoretical park set), but I don't think we'll see a set that is "just" a market. Certainly, I could be wrong.
  19. So, either this week, or perhaps next Tuesday at the latest for the reveal. I will say that, if we are getting a park, I'm surprised I haven't seen that reported anywhere else yet. I would certainly be happy if we still end up getting an inn/hotel or some other retail building.
  20. Seems like Lego likes to do new set reveals on Tuesdays. The new WV set is reportedly set to be available for sale on October 3rd (haven't heard about any early availability for VIPs) - what are the chances it gets revealed tomorrow?
  21. The Spring Lantern Festival set was pretty well done and had almost 1800 pieces, so I could see something on a slightly smaller footprint (that would fit in with the winter village) for 1500 pieces that would have a similar level of detail. It does feel a little redundant with all the various skating rinks and trees that we've gotten in other sets, but done well I'm sure it would be a solid addition to the line. I'd still prefer a new shop, but there are (hopefully) plenty of years to go with this line. I have some doubts that we'll see another Christmas market set, as I thought I remember hearing that set sold particularly poorly back in the day. Christmas markets just aren't at all ubiquitous in the US, and I think that hurt the sales of that set. I think a park could pull off some of the same concepts, as you could have a vendor or two scattered about the park, but then you'd pull in some of the other extraneous WV items - like a large tree, skating rink or gazebo. In truth, a park set would need to be done really well, or else it's going to feel like a conglomeration of little side builds that we already have from previous sets, and that's going to read as lazy.
  22. I'm shocked to see that the Santa's Sleigh set is not on the website right now. I thought for certain that set would run for at least a couple years, if not become an evergreen. However, at a similar price point they are bringing out that Christmas Tree set this year. I think that one looks quite nice. And the 4+ Santa's Gingerbread set looks fun - perhaps it could be worked into some people's winter villages. As for the main set, 1500+ pieces, but only a $100 price tag, makes me think we'll get a building with quite a bit of detailing. 1500 pieces just screams lots of small pieces to me. With the Christmas Tree set coming out separately, I would think this set will not have its own tree, but perhaps we'll see a new vehicle for the village. Seems like it's been a few years since we got one of those. I do notice that the Elf Clubhouse is still available in the US - if you haven't already, probably need to think about grabbing up that one soon. The sets from two years ago tend to be sold out by sometime in November, if not late October.
  23. I would think that if we ever get a Polar Express set, it might be closer to the scale of the current Hogwarts Express. Perhaps the success of the HE set will help determine the fate of a Polar Express set of that stature. Or, maybe a set that big is too big a risk with a new IP? I would think they would do something at least at the same price point as the Home Alone set. As for this year's WV set, I would think we're 7-10 days out from some sort of leak, if not an outright reveal. Hopefully, it'll be sooner, but I think definitely not until September.
  24. 100% agree with your thoughts. If they ever did a police station (and I'd be fine if they didn't get around to that particular building for 10-20 years), I would think that it needs to be soft around the edges. No guns - nightsticks at most. The English Bobby look is a good idea. Nothing remotely modern. At the end of the day, I think there are a lot of other directions to go with the WV that wouldn't have the potential to be problematic in the way a police station could....unless they did a police station that was run by elves. Now that would be fun!
  25. I still think/hope that this year's release will be some sort of retail building - as others have said, it's been too long since we had a shop/store to add to the village. IMO, the most glaring omission is still a sweet shoppe, and a building of that nature could provide a nice alternative for those that missed the bakery way back at the beginning of the WV line. My best guesses: 1) Sweet Shoppe 2) Hotel/Lodge 3) Grocery Store 4) Restaurant 5) Farm/Stables - perhaps for reindeer, or horses 6) Book Store 7) Ugly Sweater Store? 8) Town Hall 9) Police HQ of some type - perhaps part of town hall? 10) Blacksmith/Silversmith
