Yeah, I was really looking forward to that GWP last year. The Front Yard set was kinda underwhelming. I do hope they repackage that set and bring it out this year, but not sure that the odds would be very good on that.

Thanks for doing the research. Without having looked at the data myself, my general impression was exactly what you found. I've been a big fan of this line from the beginning (really, it's my favorite line that Lego does these days), I'm always full of anticipation for the new set, and always disappointed that we have to wait until (almost) October for the new set. 5 - 7 years ago, I feel like we would learn what the new set was going to be in mid-late August. However, as the years have gone on, the reveal has become later and later - first it was early-September, and now it's almost mid-September before we see the new set. And Lego has tended to do a better job of keeping the leaks under wraps in recent years, making the wait for the reveal seem even longer. I'll be happily surprised if the set gets revealed in August and we can buy it in September (any of us), but I'm not holding my breath.

Has the WV set ever received a general release prior to October 1st, or right around there? If it has, it must have been very early in the run. All I can ever recall is the set releasing around October 1st, and if we're fortunate we get an early VIP release. I for one will be very surprised (happily so) if we see a general release on September 1st - even if it's just in Europe.

I guess in my mind it would still be in scale with the village. I could conceive of Santa having quite the elaborate operation that would require a building a bit larger than the usual WV building, but still be appropriate to the scale and spirit of the WV line. Certainly, I'll be happy to keep collecting the village if they never do something like this. I understand. At the US Shop at Home site, the Tree, Ornaments and Polar Bears are all scheduled to release on October 1st. Perhaps this will be another set that is released in bit earlier in Europe than in North America

I love this time of year, when the speculation about the next Winter Village set really ramps up. A few thoughts: 1) Has it been confirmed that the new WV set is going to drop on September 1st? Even that new Christmas Tree set is dropping on October 1st. 2) Count me among the people that are excited for the holiday-themed figures in the next CMF series. I've always wanted an entire series dedicated to the WV theme, but I'll take half a series over nothing! 3) As for the WV set, I think it has to be a new store, or restaurant, or retail/public building of some sort. Another remake, even if it was an improved Santa's Workshop, would be a big disappointment. Too many untapped ideas, like a sweet shoppe, town hall, or lodge. The Bricklink Winter Chalet set, scaled appropriately, would have been a very nice addition to the WV line - a hotel with a restaurant on the ground floor would have fit right in. 4) The WV line has such a strong following at this point, I think that TLG could get away with a larger set one year. Something akin to the Haunted House set in the Monster Fighters line. I could easily envision a 2,000 - 2,500 piece Santa's Workshop/HQ set, and I think it would sell well for years. Maybe they will give us something like that for the 15th or 20th anniversary of the line.

With Santa's Sleigh getting revealed today, are we thinking next week for the WV set?

Actually, if you look back at last year, we didn't get the official announcement until September 21st. As much as I hate to say it, we might be a full three weeks away still. It's a little amazing to see the lack of leaks with the winter village set as well as the holiday GWP's. It seems like we usually have some rumor/picture of the first holiday GWP by now.

To be clear, I'm not questioning the rationale for the re-release. I do recall that information leaking out - that they were not able to move forward with the designed model for some reason, and I agree that the theory about the train not being ready makes sense. My point is that we intermittently hear from various people that wish for a re-release of the bakery, or the post office, or the cottage. IMO, there is no more sure way to kill this line than to start putting out rehashes/re-releases when we only get one set per year. I will admit that this is my favorite line that Lego puts out, and this may make me biased, but in order for this line to continue (hopefully for years and years), Lego needs to put out a new set every year. If they'd like to do a one-year re-release of an older set alongside the new set every year - fine by me. I'm not trying to keep older sets out of the hands of people that don't have them. But when we only get that one, singular set every year, it has got to be an original concept.

I really think they're done with re-releases. That Toy Shop re-release did not go over well. If anything, they'll put out a bigger, better bakery or post office, and you know there will be more houses/cottages if this line continues over the years.

I would be perfectly fine with a new house for the village. I think a log cabin would look nice, but not sure how that translates in Lego

The really creative thing would have been to make the Gingerbread House a sweet shoppe instead of a house with real Gingerbread people living there. That way you get a full scale GBH, but it still fits in the WV without going too fantastical. All that said, I agree that a sweet shoppe is an overdue idea, as are several other types of buildings that belong in any village. Not that I haven't enjoyed the Gingerbreads and Santa and the elves (because I have), but I'm hoping they get back to a more realistic addition this year.

I think last year's two sets were on Black Friday, and then maybe another in December? I remember years past when they would do the 1st GWP in October (with 2X VIP points), and the 2nd in November. I much preferred that schedule.

That's a very nice looking set! Love that the book is the base of the set, and I greatly prefer this presentation to the sets that looked like a book laying open. Big winner here!
-
Is that gonna be one of those sets that's designed as a book that's opened?

Where in the world is the official reveal of the Elf Clubhouse? Are they going to wait for next Monday, and then release it on the 23rd?
-
It seems like they reveal the set just a little later every year. I feel like I can definitely remember the WV set being announced in August in years past, but I believe it's always been after SDCC. Don't think they've ever shown off the set at that con. I think we can safely assume that we'll be seeing the set in the next three weeks.
-
I think an elf clubhouse could offer some fun, non-traditional architecture and I agree that it would seem to naturally pair up with the Santa set, as well as the elf GWP from that year. I guess I do think that the idea is fun, and could be a really great set...I'm just itching to flesh out the actual town a little bit more.
-
Elf Clubhouse? Really? Another mythology set? I'll be curious to see it (and will certainly buy it), but I was hoping for a new "real world" set this year. On a related topic, I would pay money for holiday GWP's to go back to being small sets that fit in the WV. The snowglobe, nutcracker, Christmas tree and mini GBH's have been nice, but I miss those little 100 piece sets that add to the overall village.

Surprised by the overall silence in this thread, so I'm gonna jump in. This time last year we already had leaked pics of the GB minifigs, and things were buzzing here. I haven't heard of any such leaks this year, though this is hardly the typical year. So long as we don't get another re-hash, I'm going to be happy with whatever TLG puts out. Personally, I'd like to see another building/store that does not look out of place in a small village. I've always thought that a candy/sweet shoppe was a natural for this line, but I'm skeptical they would do such a store on the heels of the GBH. Maybe this is the year for a town hall. Maybe a cafe or coffee shop. Maybe a small schoolhouse or library? With TLG seemingly retiring most/all of their police sets, I'm very doubtful of a police station - and if that's what TLG had originally planned for this year, then I would be fearful of another re-hash. I would really like to see the Winter Village gets its own theme, the way they've done with the Fairground sets this year. WV is becoming one of the longer running (sub)themes for TLG, and I believe it is worthy of its own branding and box art. Lastly, just one year I would like to see TLG take the fall CMF series and make it a WV themed series, similar to Series 14 and its Halloween theme. (don't get me started on the idea of a Halloween Village line - instant winner!) One could argue that they started down this path with Series 11 (elf, Yeti, GB man), but I'd like a full line of figures to populate our winter villages. I think a re-deco of Mr & Mrs Claus would be two obvious figures. You could easily get away with 2-4 different elves. I think a snowman figure akin to Leon from "Elf" would be fun, or they could go with a more classic Frosty the Snowman design. You could do a couple people in crazy holiday sweaters. I would take 1-2 more redesigned GB people - or kids. And you could easily fill out the rest with other townspeople, and add in some new molded elements.

Yeah, they'll reveal this set next week, and then it'll be available for VIP's the week after. But this is certainly the latest in the year that I can ever remember the reveal of the Winter Village set occurring.
-
I couldn't remember if the previous picture of the gingerbread lady withe baby/tile had the skirt piece.
-
Looks like there might be a new picture out there. Another female gingerbread minifigure - this time with a skirt piece
-
There are plenty of characters left to do - certainly enough for another CMF line. And I always wanted that Android's Dungeon rumor to come true.
-
We started getting official teases from TLG in the last week of August 2018, with the official reveal on September 9th. Hopefully that means we'll start to get some official hints next week. Maybe even get a look at the holiday GWP's.

What I mean is that the secondary build may be more significant than usual. If we look at the builds in the three Winter Village sets with piece counts over 1000 Cottage - 1490 pieces - Large, elaborate cottage (IMO out of scale with the rest of the winter village), a vehicle, a small shed Market - 1261 pieces - Moderately sized carousel, and three minor stands Fire Station - 1166 pieces - Large building, vehicle, pond In the descriptions, I've omitted the tiny side builds - benches, igloo, tree, etc. I'm assuming that Lego is going to do something remarkable for the 10th anniversary set (this may be an incorrect assumption). With 1400+ pieces, I'm guessing we see one of two things: 1) A very elaborate Gingerbread House, which would hopefully still fit in with the rest of the winter village, along with 1-2 minor builds 2) A Gingerbread House more in keeping with the caliber of the toy shop, bakery and post office, along with a secondary build more significant than we have seen before - perhaps even another building that would be nearly the same size We haven't seen a winter village set this big in over five years. We saw last year that Lego can do quite a bit with 1100 pieces, so unless they go overboard on the gingerbread house, I'm betting we get something like option #2, maybe with 1.5 - 2 full scale buildings - along the lines of Assembly Square.
