Hi! No blog post going into the recipe unfortunately. Doing it more scientifically would be great! In general, the recipe was 2:1 ratio of hot water (hottest from tap, so ~130F) : 100% acetone, plus equal parts of light gray and pink DyeMore Rit dye. The times unfortunately ranged depending on part type and I assume the temperature of the water (took longer as the water cooled off). In general, though, times varied from ~2 minutes on the lighter end to 30 minutes on the darker end. The dye wore off (or rather my skin layers wore off!) within a day or so :)

To be honest, regular official sand red pieces are kind of dull / low-luster. The dyed ones that started with tan are sometimes *more* shiny

Here's the thread about dying them!

"Slipping Out The East Gate" Brother Amaranth slips out the east gate of Redwall Abbey to hunt for pecans in Mossflower Wood. As his tummy grumbles, he smiles to himself remembering the gooseberry scones Sister Geraldine had packed for him. -------------- A quick 1-hour build to try out a sand red wall using slightly different shades of dyed bricks. Also a chance to try out warm tan for the path!

Haha yes Yes, hard to get consistent colors for sure. Check out the variety of sand reds here:

This week I've spent some time making sand red elements for a future MOC. I started with tan elements and then submerged them in a mixture of tiedye dyes, acetone, and warm water. As you can see in this first batch it took some time and experimenting to find a color match --v. The 4x4 curved round plate is an original LEGO sand red piece. The 1x1 plates on the left were the formulation I eventually ended up with - a mix of grays and pinks to make a desaturated fuschia. The second batch used that first color match formulation and was much closer! Added some SNOT bricks, tiles, cheese slopes, arches, etc As long as the pieces only sit in the bath a short time they don't dissolve and the dye takes (they still connect together tightly and LEGO logo hasn't dissolved off studs) Only downside was during the first batch I dyed my right hand red haha. (The dye solution ate through my rubber gloves, so I triple bagged rubber gloves the next time) Some nasty acetone fumes, too, so I set up a negative pressure vacuum in my house using our whole house fan and had it continually bring in fresh air Anyway, thought I'd share the experiment

Thanks Yes, I've made so many of those in the past 6 months. They are for sale on Rocky Mountain Minifigs as an individual accessory and also included with the British and French soldier figures there! https://www.rockymountainminifigs.com/product/revolutionary-war-tricorner-hat-with-white-trim-hair/ -

"A Cold March Toward Valley Forge" Winter 1778 - A column of cold and tired continental army soldiers slowly make their way over snow covered ground toward Valley Forge, where they will meet up with General Washington. ---------------- The second of three planned military builds for a July 4th display with CoWLUG and DENLUG at Fan Expo Denver.

On July 4, 1863, following the battle of Gettysburg, the skies opened up and rain flooded low-lying areas. Colonel Garfield leads a column of Union infantry to try to cut off the Confederate retreat at the Potomac south of the battlefield. ---------------- The first of three planned military builds for a July 4th display with CoWLUG and DENLUG at Fan Expo Denver. Rain technique inspired by a recent Brethren of the Brick Seas build from @Keymonus.

"Orders Arrive at the Mondrie Inn" While stationed in Seawatch, most of the officers of the Corlander expeditionary forces stayed at the Mondrie Inn. Major Brickleton enjoyed the breakfast puddings, which reminded him of meals he'd enjoyed as a child at his home in northern Corrington. After finishing his morning meal, Brickleton headed out to the street, thinking he would head on to the camp where most of his soldiers of the 26th Foot were tented up. Phillipe, the small schnauzer dog, rose and ran after him. Since arriving at Seawatch, the miniature dog had glommed onto Brickleton. Outside the inn, Brickleton spotted a soldier of the 20th Foot. The black epaulettes were the giveaway. The soldier walked toward him, saluted, and offered up a letter. "Orders from Colonel Wolf, sir!" Brickleton thanked the trooper and headed back inside to read his orders. --------------------- Figures from Rocky Mountain Minifigs
