A few years ago I posted about the interchangeable hat wig, which involved cutting a LEGO wig with a hacksaw and sticking it under hat pieces. The result was good, but it was kind of hard to do and scared people because of the hacksaw. I have a better way now! Made a couple more under hat hairs - these are actually really easy to make (~3 min each) Made by just putting a 4" x 4" piece of rough grit sandpaper on the floor and rubbing the hair against it. I put a knockoff head in the hair and attach it to a torso to hold onto. Once the knockoff head has been sanded down so the stud is gone it is pretty much ready This would of course work for all themes, but I used it for pirates and imperials!

Agreed! Great way to give it a location while still having a detailed interior. So good! -
A largish redcoat fort I built as part of a pirate collaborative build with CoWLUG and DENLUG. It will be joined with builds from 10 other local builders to form a massive layout. My section features 4 powered lantern lights, a motorized windmill, and motorized flying seagulls

This is fun - thanks for sharing :) Also possible to use window lattice for deck grating, too

As I'm sure many of you have seen, there is a prolific series of Napoleonic Army figures being sold on AliExpress. These figures aren't created by LEGO but are very high quality. They can generally be found for <$1 ea with free shipping. Recently I've been experimenting with taking the legs from these AliExpress figures and adding them to official LEGO torsos. The AliExpress figures feature nice coattail prints on the legs and this can add a lot to a period torso. However, I think the AliExpress legs are a bit too busy for my taste, so I've been using an electric eraser to partially remove the print to simplify the design. These three AliExpress figures have good legs for use with Redcoats and Dark Bluecoats: If you remove the bottom of the waistcoat but leave the coat color on the front of the legs, these can be added under LEGO torsos: I also removed some of the creases in the pants to make them purer white/dark tan. As you can see above, the red and dark blue isn't a 100% match with the official LEGO torso colors, but it is very close.

Thanks! Yes, a 2x2 white rubberband wrapped around the colonel's neck to represent a neck cloth

"Continental Army Headquarters" Colonel Jennings gives Private Burbank new dispatches to take to Rawlings in Brandywine. Militiamen filter in, ready to enlist.

A quick revolutionary war purist figbarf. I've been making some non-purist revolutionary war soldiers and they look much more accurate, but thought it would be fun to play with official LEGO pieces

A few more shots from the show

Yes, I think they will be great!

Still a WIP, but showed a version of my section this past weekend at a show. A few pics:

Avery Labels for Piece / Color Sorting

Sure - here is the source file for those part 3023 (1x2 plates) labels (Adobe Illustrator): https://www.evancrouch.com/files/LegoLabels-plates.ai A similar category source file: https://www.evancrouch.com/files/LegoLabels-categories.ai -
Yeah good points! In retrospect I should have wiped the white lines from the edges of the dark blue torsos before applying the stickers. Wasn't an issue with the redcoats I expect they'll look fine from a distance embedded in a MOC. A die cutter would be awesome! Do they make those? Yeah I'll have to make some sort of MOC :D Have a ton of green 3741 grass stems I haven't used in a while - could make a grassy battlefield or something. Probably a figbarf first and then a MOC soon after

With an electric eraser from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KWNYTG9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Made quick work on the print

For the continental soldiers I started with this figure from AliExpress Then removed the white stripes on the side of the torso Obviously would be better to have the printed KTown figs, but those are both out-of-print and $14/each. With the AE napoleonic figs being $1 ea, this will work out much more economically

Printed out some Ktown-esque revolutionary war stickers and stuck them on AliExpress napoleonic figure legs

Tested lights and motor The front water baseplates Started adding minifigs

A new sloop is launched in Wullham to help defend the harbor. Crewed by a small group of officers, marines, and able seamen, the ship's main defenses are swivel guns. The ship doesn't have any larger guns, but instead relies on being fast to deliver, with slower harbor gunboats and shore batteries available to lend support as needed. During slow days, the shipboard marines practice boarding neighboring ships. ---------- OOC: A little ship I made on the small old hulls for a larger Pirate collaborative build I'm making
-
Yes another builder is making a much smaller bluecoat fort There will be a smattering of ships in the harbor - maybe 4 or 5. I'm going to include one of my own so that I can have a ship in the water if I display it alone
-
Some more progress on the shoreline. One week to go to finish up lots of remaining things

Was playing with a blue version of that KTownBricks torso in Stud.io

"Two Redcoats" The Ktown Bricks redcoat torsos are some my favorites. They are simpler than many other brands, which fits nicely with the original LEGO pirates theme. Here I've added some cut wigs, BrickArms reloaded muskets, and BrickForge bayonets.

Yes, on purpose :) I think it needs a window below the flag though. Will have to add it! Thanks!
