  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if those were the only new costumes – Lego now has a sizable backlog of costume animal heads that have never gotten corresponding torsos, legs, and tails because of how they’ve done the mascots for the Chinese New Year sets the past several years, so they could easily make brand new animal costumes with preexisting parts. The tiger especially is probably something fans of the genre would like to see done properly.
  2. This seems like an awfully pessimistic take. If the series was all costumes it would be named something more specific like ‘costume party’ not ‘animals’. That’s not even getting into the fact that only animal costumes is a bit too niche. Plus, just look at the Space series, which is the best cue of what a current themed series would look like. It’s not all aliens, it’s not all throwbacks (no matter how much some AFOLs wanted it to be), and it’s not even all sci-fi – it’s a mix of all different themes and archetypes to maximize the potential audience. Using that as a measure, I’m fully expecting to see some animal centric professions – it’s been awhile since the last vet and we’ve had an animal control officer and zookeepers but not a wildlife rehabilitator or aquarium staff, at least one fantasy or historical take on animals, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a kid who’s a big animal fan whose accessory is something like the old zoobooks. There will still be costumes, obviously, I just wouldn’t expect them to comprise the entire series – Lego knows full well actual animals are more popular than costumes.
  3. The known Dreamzzz sets all feature animals in the names too
  4. Apparently one of the January Friends sets is called ‘Axolotl Adventure Boat’ – perhaps we’ll see a new non-Minecraft axolotl mold
  5. I’m personally expecting a new member of the Raven faction sooner rather than later. We’ve had a Black Falcon falconer and a Wolfpack beast master, and with other older factions using larger animals and us still waiting for a normally colored raven, it makes sense for the Raven faction to be the next one used for that little subtrope. Perhaps a battle witch or a court sorcerer.
  6. It definitely seems a bit smaller than the previous adult lions, and I’m not sure how realistic the sitting pose is, but I could see it looking amazing recolored something solid as a sculptural element. Seated or lying lions flanking or surrounding things was a fairly common design element at one point in time and plenty of those places still exist (see Nelson’s Column or the New York Public Library). How cool would it be to see a pair of them flanking the next big modular building?
  7. The price per piece ration is interesting, since typically when it’s higher than average it means the set will have A) large molded parts, B) large printed molded parts, or C) more than the typical number of minifigs for a set of that size. I might not be thinking creatively enough, but I can’t think of anything in Hogsmeade that needs large molded parts, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a good minifig selection. Maybe we’ll even get a version of Aberforth in his kilt.
  8. I wish they’d just bring back the cobra at all. It still peeves me that they didn’t include one with the recent Harry Potter Dueling Club set since that scene has a cobra in it and it’s kinda the most plot relevant part of it.
  9. We’ve already got sizable a set list for January 2026, so no. I also think it’s safe to say that Lego won’t jump lock stock and barrel into the show right off the bat. Just look at how they handled Fantastic Beasts, Live action Little Mermaid, or even the Mandalorian show. They start out with a very small number of sets to see if there’s any interest while continuing with the established theme. No positive response, no more sets, show does well, then we see a select number of show sets alongside the traditional ones.
  10. The ‘Space’ series included a realistic astronaut, retro takes on a spacewoman and robot, more modern takes on androids and aliens, two different versions of the ‘aliens disguised as human’ trope, several throwbacks to old themes, a constellation based on mythology, and a presumably normal guy in a fly saucer costume. Given that, the ‘Animal’ series including prehistoric and fantasy animals doesn’t seem like a crazy stretch. Especially since the last three normal series have included dinosaur costumes (we’re due for a brachiosaurus). I’d also love to see a new paleontologist, since the one in series 13 came out a decade ago now and there’s a lot you could do with that archetype. We’ve also gotten two examples of Castle faction members with their faction emblem as an animal companion in the past few years - the Black Falcon falconer and Wolfpack beastmaster. Given that a new griffin faction just got introduced in the Ideas minifigure vending machine, some member of that faction with a griffin chick would be completely crazy. Although given current circumstances, someone from the same faction as the series 20 tournament knight (raven emblem) might be more likely.
  11. Since the Space series had a Greek mythology connection with the Orion minifig, why not an Egyptian god or goddess since many of them have animal heads? I’d dig an Anubis or a Sekhmet personally.
  12. If the trends we saw with other themed series continues I think we can expect to see things like zookeepers and marine biologists who come with animals in addition to the known animal costumes. Something I’d really like to see is perhaps a minifig based on the real life conservationists who have brought endangered species back from the brink of extinction. Whooping cranes are probably one of the most well known instances of this, but I’ve seen condor hand puppets and pictures of juvenile giant panda caretakers doing it too.
  13. The color on the neck of your average rock pigeon is a lovely iridescent that can disappear at the right angle. Given that I don’t think Lego has any iridescent printing in production right now I’d say leaving it off reads better. And sadly most people don’t pay enough attention to pigeons to even notice how colorful they can be.
  14. Out of curiosity, has anyone here built the Thestral Family set yet? I think they look cute, but they also look rather unstable without any base to put them on. I live in an area that gets earthquakes and can’t really justify getting a set that will take a nosedive every time the shelf shakes, so I’m curious to know if anyone has firsthand experience on how that set holds up.
  15. This sums up the mech question pretty well. In my opinion, if the Harry Potter theme was going to try and copy one of the small/cheap playset formats used by other themes it would be more likely to try the microfighters from Star Wars. Ex. Mini Ford Anglia with Ron, mini Hogwarts Express with Hermione, mini Knight Bus with Harry, mini Thestral Carriage with Luna, mini Drumstrang Ship with Krum, mini Beauxbatons Carriage with Fleur, etc.
  16. Honestly, the sad state of Harry’s arms will never not baffle me. They specifically created a specialty dual molded forearm and hand part for the Wicked and Wednesday buildable figures but then didn’t use it for Harry despite being roughly the right size. Instead Harry gets weird noodle arms and ugly stump-like hands.
  17. I do think there’s a high chance of that. The first Harry Potter calendar was based off the first movie like the most recent one, while the one after was based on the Yule Ball. Plus, the Triwizard Arrival set will still be on shelves then. It’s also worth noting that we don’t know what year the Main Tower set will be based on, but with Dumbledore’s office a high probability to be included, GoF is a strong candidate. The first Dumbledore’s Office of the reboot came as part of the Yule Ball Clocktower set after all.
  18. The problem with that is that you’re basically asking Lego to sell an incomplete set that needs you to buy $40 of separate modules to be completed. Lego isn’t going to do that. There are exponentially more potential buyers who will be turned off by an incomplete set than who will be unwilling to pay $10-20 more for a castle section that has inserts they plan on scrapping.
  19. That might just be chance/your area. When I was sifting through boxes I didn’t notice appreciably more of those two - instead I was seeing an awful lot of hamster costume kids. The only universal is Beastmaster being most popular, everything else is chaos theory.
  20. It didn’t occur to me either until I saw the Ideas set listed as coming next month, but then it occurred to me that the new wolf would look an awful lot prettier than the brick built werewolf in the original submission. Admittedly, from what little I remember, Twilight’s werewolves are bigger in comparison to a human than real wolves. But if given the option between a slightly too big and really clunky brick built wolf that will add a lot of pieces or a slightly too small molded wolf it’s entirely possible the designers would choose the latter. It does seem a little too coincidental that we got a new wolf right before a set that features a wolf comes out - especially since we know we got the goat in last year’s first CMF because the designers wanted it for a big set too.
  21. A while back the zoological park near me had a pair of Palm Cockatoos in their Australian exhibit that were absolutely fantastic - jet black with red cheeks and extremely loud when they felt like chatting. That would definitely make for a fun recolor.
  22. To be fair, your average series doesn’t usually have one character that’s so much more in demand than all the others. Series 26 didn’t have any sort of problem like this, for example. The Beastmaster just has the perfect combination of classic castle faction update plus very cool new animal mold - both of which naturally existing in packs - that means pretty much everyone wants one and many people want several. How time consuming feeling the bags was might have discouraged some scalpers in the past, but not that many - especially since this one would still have been extremely easy to pick out with the old feel method. We all just need to take a deep breath and keep in mind that it will probably be much easier to find the Beastmaster in a few weeks when the initial hype dies down. Especially with the Ideas Twilight set due to be revealed any day now (crazy to think that’s almost certainly the reason we’re finally getting a proper wolf).
  23. I actually just built this set yesterday. It’s in Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons. Specifically in the abridged Transfiguration classroom in the top of the tower. It’s probably escaped notice because it’s positioned on a turntable that allows it to be ‘transformed’ into a clear goblet, and for some reason all the box art and online retail images all feature that side instead of the parrot. It’s probably meant to represent the hornbill McGonagall transfigures in the Vera Verto scene from Chamber of Secrets – recoloring the parrot was very likely cheaper than bringing back the toucan, which would otherwise have been more appropriate in this case.
  24. Didn’t feel like leaving the house on the first, so I’d accepted I would probably not easily find the Wolfpack Beastmaster today, but wow… the Lego store I went to had been completely picked clean - apparently people had been asking about him even yesterday. I also checked a Barnes & Noble later in my travels and its two boxes had been similarly strip mined. Luckily I managed to grab the other three I wanted – I’ll just have to keep looking for when new boxes get stocked.
  25. The Quidditch Match set from when the theme rebooted back in 2018 featured a stud shooter and black studs for the bludgers. Likewise, the First Flying Lesson set from 2021, the Quidditch Trunk, and even the just released Flying Lessons set also represented the bludgers with studs. So it’s interesting that the polybag switches to a round 1x1 tile.
