LEGO Star Wars Set Discussion 2025 - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think you're arguing past me. I actively said in the comment you quoted that: So... yeah? I agree? I've been advocating for us to get a sequel playset or two every year or so for years now? I'm comparing them because they're the two extremes- "we should only get sets for what seems to be popular" vs "we should actively produce a set that we can be pretty confident would fail". The extreme of "we should get a whole year of Acolyte sets" isn't a point being argued because there's no real argument for that whatsoever. -

I meant more that you said TROS was "actually terrible". I agree with your wider point that people like all sorts of different projects in the franchise and whatever, but you undermine it by saying some projects are good and others are terrible. As far as it relates to sets, I think there is a middle ground between "people can like what they like, we should be getting Acolyte sets" and "We shouldn't get any sets for anything outside the OT, PT, TCW, and Mando" As for Acolyte "deserving" a set more than an OT remake, I wholeheartedly disagree. I think it's better for kids to be able to get an iconic vehicle from some of the most famous movies ever than for a few adults to get what is quite possibly the most controversial film/tv project ever released by the brand, if we're forcing a juxtaposition between the two. Lucasfilm themselves decided it didn't even "deserve" another season, I don't think lego would be particularly receptive to the argument that because some people did like it, it deserves a set (That would end up on significant clearance, let's be clear. The show wasn't aimed at children, was incredibly controversial with fans, and didn't exactly do massive numbers) more than a new snowspeeder or something, and I don't think they should be. I think some representation for the sequels is a good move, as while not the most popular trilogy, they are a full third of the skywalker saga. (That said, obviously the more popular trilogies should get more sets, both from a "pleasing the fans" perspective and a business one). I think a Black One or starkiller base duel every now and then would do just fine. But there's making sure kids are able to get the main cast of the trilogies, and then there's intentionally producing 40% off sales. TLDR: I think the major aspects of the franchise should all get some playset coverage, but it makes sense for the stuff that's more popular to have a larger portion, and it makes sense for lego to avoid stuff they know isn't going to do well. "Only clone playsets for an entire year" is one extreme on the spectrum and "Acolyte taking up a playset slot" is the other. -

Regardless of whether or not the delay/cancellation pans out, I think this was the one method of messing up the Arkham D2C nobody predicted. Personally I think if it is delayed, it was because they realized fans wanted superman stuff, so the figure lineup is now: Batman (re-use from the BTAS batmobile), Jonkler (BTAS head and hair on new arkham jumpsuit torso print, no leg print), Superman (from the mech), and five multiversal Lex Luthors (common lego head prints on the Jonkler's jumpsuit torso print with no leg printing) -
Renny explains it pretty well. I'm not talking about what it needs to be seen as successful in the box office, I'm talking about what it needs for lego to see it as something that would do so well sales wise it requires sets to be rushed into production. Yeah exactly. If true this is the funniest possible outcome. We were all wondering how lego would manage to mess up the Arkham set, but I don't think anybody predicted "they'll just scrap the set altogether"

Most of those are pretty silly, but Luuke was a perfectly fine written shorthand (as was Joruus, the main clone in the trilogy, but nobody harps on that because it exposes the actual lore behind it rather than just "haha luke but with two u's"), and Canon's certainly getting up there in terms of Order 66 survivors as well. You do see how you're defeating your argument a bit here, right? Absolutely. Great shorthand for a written medium so we don't have to hear "Luke's clone" over and over, and it makes perfect sense with the way clones were built up in that universe. -
I don't think it'd be 2026 is the only thing. NWH gives us how much time it takes to put out a normal system based set, because you better believe they were on that the SECOND that movie released. And while I hope superman does well, I think we all realistically know it's not doing NWH numbers. I think best case scenario Superman and/or supergirl get plopped into unrelated Batman sets, and then starting in 2027 if we're lucky we start getting justice league sets.

Yeah. While not confirmation this is a point in the oscorp column. I would be pleasantly surprised if they actually remembered the games exist and we got a non-SDCC advanced suit. -

Cautious optimism for me. I'm seeing a lot of the stuff the show needs- Punisher (And that's one part I'm confident in. Jon Bernthal wouldn't come back for them to make a mockery of Frank Castle), the Matt/Fisk dynamic, Fisk not being entirely cut-and-dry evil, references to the major aspects of Matt's self (The law, religion, his rage, etc), Foggy and Karen, etc. A few shots give me a minute amount of pause, but in the proper context I won't mind them, so again, cautious optimism. Yeah, I should have clarified, white tiger as in the guy under the suit. The Ultimate Spider-Man one is a high school girl, and while I don't think we see much of the Daredevil one in the trailer, I'd hazard a guess it's the older version of the character from the comics. My money's still on Oscorp if we're getting a modular this year. I think Baxter is later down the line, once/if the FF prove themselves. A comic-based Avengers Mansion would also be awesome. -

I'm not a fan of the sequels, and I do think the Acolyte (and the surrounding "no it was peak it's the fans/youtubers who disliked it/etc's fault it wasn't super popular") is in many ways comically bad, but star wars is still a juggarnaut. Some other small points: George was primed and ready to ruin the story he created with some of his own ST ideas. I have tremendous respect for him as essentially the father of the greatest fictional universe, but he's best when he has people tethering him to reality a bit, like with the OT. We saw an unmoored lucas with the prequels, and while I know you like those, for a great many people those are what "ruined it all". (Which is also a thing about franchises having high and low points.) Some of the ideas he talked about for the ST were truly deranged, like the main cast shrinking down ant-man style to fight midichlorians. Same goes for legends- it has some great stuff, it has what I'd call peak star wars with the thrawn trilogy books, but it also has some really laughably stupid stuff. As for marvel since it's off topic the only thing I'll say is that the past month and a half have proven that fictional universes have high and low points. Marvel's movies may not be doing to hot but they've had the biggest video game they've ever had, and managed to generate massive amounts of goodwill with it that might legitimately help them out a bit in future projects. I guarantee a not-insignificant amount of people not formerly interested in the new Fantastic Four movie are interested now. Point being everything's got high and low points. I'd argue 2025 is a low point for lego star wars. I don't think it's dead. -

We should have gotten these this summer for TFA's 10th. At least get the main cast of the trilogy out there. I'm not a big sequel guy but I credit Black One (Both the set and the scene where Poe chews up a squad of tie fighters in TFA) for getting me seriously into lego star wars, a remake of that's been on my wishlist for half a decade. It's your anecdote vs my anecdote, but I've found the opposite. I know some people who are hardcore into TCW and won't bat an eye at sequel sets or non-imperial OT sets, but everyone I know who's a casual fan, or just generally aware of the franchise? It's the OT and Baby Yoda. -

Yeah, same here. There's a lot I love about it- the netflix theme on church organ, Matt and Fisk seeming consistent with their netflix versions in the trailer, Punisher's back, etc. (That one's big. Jon's spoken in the past about how he wanted to make sure they treat the character right, and having seen some of his podcast, I think he does really get Punisher.) But disney's shown their ability to mess up established, good subfranchises before, especially the ones that are more adult/"real world". Though I doubt it translated into any direct tie ins, since it is clearly bone-splittingly TV-MA. At best, we get a spider-man set with comic daredevil and kingpin. (Please lego? Please?) White Tiger and Bullseye are possible too I guess, if we're going with the "spider man set with comic daredevil and kingpin" pipe dream, but Muse, much like direct tie-ins, is another definite no. That character is not showing up in a lego set anytime soon. -

Ok, but by that same logic, I could say "However, it's where Peter got his powers, and home to Norman Osborn, Spider-Man's most iconic enemy, as well as where a number of his other enemies work or were created. The location, albeit with different designs, features prominently in a number of spider man films. The bugle is JJJ's HQ and where Peter works." (Also, the Raimi bugle is the flatiron building.) You can't deny that the two buildings are generally the same- "big spider man building". Yeah exactly. There's arguably a lot MORE to Oscorp than to the bugle. The interior rooms would be a lot more interesting than just offices and a lobby. The characters can be a lot more integrated into the build. Yeah, without the F4 becoming household names again, it won't work. I think Oscorp is more likely than Fisk Tower, chiefly because Goblin and all the other Oscorp related villains are more popular than Fisk. I think Fisk Tower is possible as a third spider man D2C in like 2029, but they'd have to work in some other, more well-known locations into it, because without that it's a tower less well known than Oscorp or the bugle without much you can do in the interior. -

Yeah exactly. I had trouble putting it into words, but there are some sets that could fit sort of between mando and OT, and others that are concretely Mando. I completely agree. Sure, there are fans who exclusively like other parts of the franchise, but the OT is the foundation of everything, and the one part of the franchise most fans can generally agree is really good. I do think sets with longer shelf lives would be a good solution to this problem. Yup. I'm hoping it's in the mando movie so it'll increase our chances. Sure, maybe you were able to pick everything up, but you have to think of all the people who weren't into lego back then, or were little kids, or didn't have the income to buy all the sets. This is kind of a wider thing and something I notice a lot, that a lot of fans don't seem to understand why remakes exist, or do understand why but think lego should be near-exclusively catering to longtime fans with big wallets anyway. -

I think Oscorp is about as well known as the bugle, and at the end of the day it boils down to "spider man building". I mean, it's where he got his powers, his archenemy's building, where half his villains come from in half the continuities. I don't think a black building with an Oscorp logo would sell much worse than a grey one with a Bugle logo. I agree Baxter is definitely pretty obscure currently, but I think in a few years, especially if the movie does well, it could be an option. Rivals is certainly putting in the work to help get the F4 a bit more name recognition. No, I think it's entirely the other way around, I think the lack of F4 sets indicated this is NOT the baxter building. Like I say below, I highly doubt it'll be MCU based- aside from my main "lego does not (nor should they) have modular-level faith in a new subfranchise for the MCU at this point", the previous movie modulars have been from locations that were each in a chunk of films, whereas if they were doing a baxter building this year, they'd have concept art- not even the full movie, just concept art- of precisely one film to go off of. And if it were comic based, we'd need at least one comic based set to get some prints from. That isn't to say I wouldn't want one, especially if it came with more comic accurate blue suits and a bigfig thing. Lego has lost so much confidence in the MCU that half the movies barely get any coverage at all anymore, we aren't seeing a modular based on an unproven movie, especially one where the previous iterations have a reputation as being comically terrible. (Opinion seems to be turning on the Tim Story movies in a bit more of a positive direction recently, but still). The Sanctum was banking on not just an established popular MCU character, but being half-based on one of the biggest movies ever made. -

Yup. While I personally think the Dark Falcon may have overdone it a BIT (doesn't mean I'll be eagerly awaiting it on discount for those figs and plenty of parts to build an eclipse-class with), at least as far as story material goes, I'm a big fan of the variety. IMO the year should be more or less split like this playset wise: 1/3 OT sets (Mando can cut into this a little, but this isn't 1/6 OT 1/6 Mando)- both stuff we haven't had in forever, era-appropriate new stuff from newer shows, and yes, remakes, which are critical for kids and new fans of older ages. It's the literal foundation of the franchise, and while I'm not saying it should dominate everything it deserves a respectable spot. 1/3 PT/clone stuff - Yeah, clones are cool. I like them. I don't mind having a significant chunk of sets being clone trooper based. If we got 2-3 battle packs a year, I wouldn't even mind one clone pack every single year. They are popular and also deserve their place, even if I don't think that place should be "almost every system set" 1/3 Mando/ST/minor show/other- Mando should always be on shelves in some form, though once his era ends I don't think he'll need the shelf space he's had some of the past few years. Same with the ST, it's not the most popular thing but I think at the very least there should be a way to get the main 4 characters or so every few years. I also think it'd be nice to get a set or two every year based on one of the older disney+ shows, or the spinoff films (though I'd count a lot of rogue one sets in that OT catagory), or new shows that aren't major efforts like Ahsoka. If a movie or a major new show (so not like a miniseries, something where they're doing a real strong merch push) comes out, I think we should get a tie-in wave. I think this is a good mix for the different types of fans by age, interest, etc. The only issue is that with how few system sets a year we've been getting, this doesn't come out to the most encouraging numbers. Yup, these are the two big things for me. I DO like the current clone style, and I like clones- I have a ton of them! But when we're getting so many clone sets, and so few system sets that the clones completely dominate the entire year, lego manages to make me dislike the clone sets. -
Marvel Superheroes 2025 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
That's true, but I assume Oscorp is going to be a lot more in line with the bugle or AT, partially because they've been alternating in terms of fig count/size, and also just because logically, if you CAN "set up" the modular's figures with earlier ones in the wave, why wouldn't you? With the X-men and Multiverse of Madness, lego wasn't confident enough in the x-men to set the groundwork with a number of sets beforehand, and obviously they would never do a full Multiverse of Madness wave. I don't think they'll recycle anyone besides Spider-Man and Venom (MAYBE spider-gwen or Miles but I really doubt it) from the bugle. And sure, they could use civilians (if this modular is an ITSV based oscorp- and I don't think we even saw oscorp in ITSV, unless it was in a background skyline shot- I will eat a Miles Morales minifigure and upload it to youtube.) I also don't think they'd re-do a full set of the characters in the same outfits in the same set. The closest we've really come to that is the two caps, but that represents an actual scene in the movie. Plus Ben would just be repeating the same figure since he can't really turn his powers off and on. It would also mean you couldn't display more than 5 or 6 figures on the front of the box. -

Yeah I'm a little suspicious, as much as I want an Oscorp. They haven't laid the groundwork a ton (for either modular, actually. If the FF set was comic based that might be a bit of a lead-in, but it's not and no way we get an MCU modular before they can judge how well the movie did.), as-is aside from spider man and venom always being on shelves, oscorp could re-use, what, anti-venom and spider-girl? The bugle had a much larger selection of re-uses to go off of. -

It's the overexposure. I would be ecstatic to get the 327th a year or two ago, but they've just been putting out so many clone sets that A: It's diminishing returns- there are just so many clone sets- it used to just be dominating the battle pack scene but it's almost every playset this year. That's insane to me. Think about it this way- if in 2025, we got 0 PT playsets and a ton of rebel sets, would you be happy? I wouldn't think it's a good selection- even outside the fact that if it's all stuff I'd want, I'd wish they'd have budgeted it out over a bit longer a period of time, but there's just no variety. I think LSW works best in the modern era when it's non-tie-in waves build off a variety of sources. -

This is true, but generally when a news outlet has "misinform" in their name I think it's safe to assume they are a parody account or other fake outlet. That's why I said you have to play a bit loose with it- either include both or make sandman a sort of mech (which apparently is a thing we're doing in these sets now) Picking on you for no reason despite the valuable service you provide, but I think the amount of civilians and civilian locations you have in this list really cements why I don't think they'll do many large sets for the pre-MCU spidey films. Almost half your figure slots there are going to civilians. Kids are not as interested in civilians as heroes and villains, I don't think lego would go for sets that limit the amount of heroes and villains you can have that much. A diorama might be able to get away with it, but that's about it. (And even then, all the diorama style sets they've done for marvel are full of costumed characters). And then most of the builds are generic civilian city builds. I do think the construction site would work, because Sandman can be a significant chunk of the build and you can have 4 heroes/villains in the one set, but we've seen that lego's pretty averse to giving us generic city backgrounds rather than "Wolverine's Car and Helicopter" (Side note: How do we not have a wolvmobile yet? I feel like it's an obvious choice). When they have done them, they tend to fill them up with a solid number of heroes and villains- most of the spider-man movies can have 2-3 costumed characters max. I think the most we get in terms of pre-MCU spider man sets bigger than, say, $37.99 or so is the SM3 construction fight (because you can have up to 4 costumed characters) and a diorama of the SM2 train scene (because we know it's coming, my guess as to why is that it's THE superhero movie scene. It's the massively popular, constantly parodied exception to the rule.) ITSV Sp//dr would be nice for a battle pack style set's build, the ATSV (Post Peni's truly disturbing Canon Event) or comic sp//dr could be a nice larger sized set. Also, give me Rivals Sp//dr in a battle pack. I won't repost the wave I made in the wishlist thread, but Sp//dr and her nest with some gold webs and spider-bots is the perfect size for a battle pack build. Throw in Rivals Iron Man, Luna Snow, and Moon Knight or something. (Then make a ton of other rivals sets so we can get everyone). -

This one you could get 6 figs out of if you play a bit loose with it- Spidey, Venom, Harry Goblin, Sandman, MJ, JJJ. But like you say lego's allergic to side characters, so it'd probably just be the main four, maybe MJ, and then be $110. -

I'm wondering if the reason we're getting a new P1 pilot helmet might be that they plan to use it for other, similar helmet designs *cough* clone commandos *cough*, so the pipes will be a good indicator of whether or not that'll be the case. Yup. They're compartmentalizing way too much. Mando 4+ for younger kids, only 18+ gimmicks for OT fans (since clearly they're all old geezers who would never buy standard system sets...) and older PT fans, and clone sets for... who, exactly? Do they think the kids are all super into clones exclusively? Like don't get me wrong, they're popular, but so are mando and grogu and the empire and Luke. Have they finally realized there is a somewhat significant number of teens and adults who buy the system sets, but they did so by stumbling upon exclusively the MandR and Lifebricks channels? What's funny is lego overusing the clones has entirely stopped my hype for them, if this was even two years ago I'd be over the moon. They're one of my favorite legions, because, as Callum says, - not that we're likely to see any cloth pieces on anyone but Bly, but still. -

I feel this on a spiritual level. Not so sure about this- maybe if it's done like a diorama, but so far all the dioramas have been chock-full of iconic characters, and I'm not sure lego would move from that to two minifigs. It might have had more of a draw if we didn't have Tobey from the NWH set yet, but as-is, I'm not sure how well this'll do at that high of a price point. -

If there is some other leak out there and it's not just the Luffy stretchy arms, that would be huge news and work for a variety of figures. Spider-Man, for one, but also gliding characters like Moon Knight and Batman, etc.
