  1. Thank you for the helpful advice Jurss. I did fear the space between the teeth of the gears may cause some slack/latency, but had kind of wrote it off as negligible. Also there's 4 gears connected all of which has 12 teeth. So the steering will centre correctly straight, (have tested it out). Unfortunately when testing the gears it threw up a new problem, due to spacing they tend to bind which is obviously no good, so back to the drawing board i guess. I think i may try using linkage like you've suggested instead. Thanks for giving me the heads-up mate. Though the spur of the moment brainwave i had ,(split rear swingarms, one tyre serving the side car, the other tyre supplying the drive to the bike), has already been shot down by Jim. It was always my intention to go with a bigger rear tyre, but neither the Harley Davidson or Ducati rear tyres appear to be in Stud.io, so i improvised to get a visual taste of how it could look.
  2. Another small update pic. Playing around with the idea of using a steering rack based steering system. It looks messy, but it's about as clean as i think i can make it unfortunately.
  3. That is very aesthetically pleasing. Easily another one of my favourites so far.
  4. It's okay Jim. Thanks for the clarification anyway. And for the record, that's all it was, a hypothetical question.
  5. I don't see how it can be classed as a lack of fair play really. Please bare in mind this is my very first attempt at building a design out of LEGO technic, so my skill level is way far below the likes of yourself, and other established members in the Technic forum. I'm just merely exploring/exploiting what little creative talent i have. However, if you feel my hypothetical interpretation of the sidecar rule is going against the spirit of the contest, and somehow taking the fun out of participation, then i'll pursue it no further.
  6. You're indeed right, (just had a second look at the rules on page 1). But at the same time, what's stopping me from making one of the swingarms and attached wheel + sidecar, completely detachable? Sure it would look really really strange, and the panier would have to be fairly weighty to compensate the obvious offset of balance, but technically, that should still fall within the rules, shouldn't it?
  7. That's awesome It's a very unique and genius approach to run the diff and drive chains up so high.
  8. Hi @Jim Could i get a bit of clarification to the rules. Was hypothetically thinking about doing a 3 wheeled bike but with the configuration in the pic below. The question is, if the rear tyres were to remain where they are now, but instead of the two rear swing arms being joined, having them being independent instead. Then hanging a sidecar off one swingarm, (the wheel attached acting as the sidecars wheel), then having a rather large panier off the other swingarm, to balance it out, would that still fall within the rules?
  9. Apologies i should've explained, it's just a place holder for now. You are indeed right though, i think as it is it would fall into the category of being a trike. However, you have just given me an idea that comes down to how the rules could possibly be interpreted. It's an ambitious idea and would look mighty strange, (not that it doesn't already ). But what about, having each rear swing arm acting independently, with a sidecar attached to one swingarm, and a fairly big panier attached to the other swing arm. I suppose both could have differing kinds of spring to help balance it too. Would be some kind of cruiser concept. Small update pic.
  10. Man i'm loving that curvature you've done over the front, and how it flows into the seat. Bloomin awesome!
  11. Indeed, i couldn't agree more, i wish LEGO made one like that, (deep dish one piece). I was thinking of going with that big tyre myself, (providing i can get my hands on one). It's good to hear the tyre itself is stiff enough to support the form.
  12. This technic style of building is an even harder challenge than i thought it would be. For every step i think that i'm making forward, just ends up being two steps back. Slow progress really but have managed to correct a major error i hadn't noticed. Had a major clearance issue with the steering, but it appears to be sorted out now. Unfortunately though, it doesn't look quite as nice as it did before, but i guess it's function over form.
  13. Loving this so far, and i think you're capturing the feel of the Yaiba Kusanagi, really well. I did toy with using that exact same method of turntable steering myself, as it reminded me of the bike from Akira. It doesn't matter too much if it doesn't steer a whole heap, as it's focus is clearly high speed rather than sharp aggressive turning angles.
  14. That looks awesome! You have got me scratching my head a bit though. How have you managed to bury the rear brake disc so deep into the rear tyre? Are you just using one offset wheel inside the tyre case?
  15. This looks fantastic. Especially loving the geometry of the frame, and that it's possibly going to be a hybrid or e-bike.
  16. I'm going through similar frustrations/headaches with mine too, so i feel your pain. Yours still looks like it's coming along well though.
  17. I agree with langko, it looks a lot better with the bottom of the bodywork tucked in now.
  18. This is looking so good. Especially love some of the details like the rear lights and Acrapovic exhaust.
  19. It looks really good. Shame about noticing the extra chain after progressing so far with it though, but i'm sure there must be a way of fixing it.
  20. That's a fantastic looking bike. I actually prefer it to what you've based it on, i think it's because of the wheels and the wing mirrors. Creates a classic yet modern look.
  21. Really digging the curves on your custom bike. I agree I_Igor, It's definitely the kind of creation i'd expect to from OCC too. Looks awesome. Can i ask, will it be a soft tail, or a hard tail with a sprung seat?
  22. Loving your hubless wheel design. I wanted to do the same myself, but couldn't fit it in the tyre i really wanted to use. That video posted above is a genius solution to what i was originally looking for though, but i'm not keen on it being driven by the method they've chosen. Looking forward to see where you take it from here. With those chunky tyres, it looks like it means real business.
  23. Looks like you've managed to capture this really accurately, pretty much perfectly scaled. It's so cool to see some working pedals too. It doesn't look like there's much space to work with, but it's amazing what you've managed to fit in so far.
  24. I've drawn a heck of a lot of inspiration from your design with this. I'd always intended to go with a Cyberpunk/Akira style bike myself, since i first saw the competition posted. But i did figure i wouldn't be the only one to take a similar approach. I'd like to think there's still enough difference between the two designs though. I'm incredibly impressed with how you've managed to fit so many working features, into the slightly smaller scale. And your radial engine is a work of art. I know i may sound biased, but i think this is my favourite entry so far, as i love the whole futuristic concept approach. Can't wait to see where you take it.
  25. I'm really loving this design so far. The new frame really seems like it will lend itself well to the speeder bike theme. Awesome.
