Unfortunately, my fellow-European wallet is well aware. I didn't call you an idiot and had no intention of doing that either as I have no right to judge people based on their purchase habits. My post was meant to express my newfound disappointment about the set prices and the ongoing USD=EUR conversion which has been permanent for the last decade.

26 EUR (32 USD) for Tahu? Hell no. If that's the case, I'd rather sit and wait until May and get the sets on sale. The sets are amazing but these prices are getting ridiculous.

I'm not sure what you've meant - I can only assume you were referring to the third story animation where skull spiders lurk in the bushes... aaand each other Toa/Protector duo face the same challenge as spiders surround/ambush them. Furthermore, the Toa character videos are also set after the said story animation, showing how they obtain their golden mask and defeat the spiders. So I don't really see this foreshadowing. Am I missing the point? Btw I never liked that Lewa infection subplot and I am not fond of these videos either. Not that I'm giving too much a damn about the story anyways. *shrugs*

Well, the map of Okoto is definitely rendered better, but as an island itself, Mata Nui had a more dynamic/exciting shape IMO. I don't know, Okoto seems too polished on the borders, resembling a rectangle of some sort, where in comparison Mata Nui looked much more like an actual island. But the new render is definitely more elaborate. Well, that's certainly true. I also like the fact that the arrangement of the elemental regions makes just a little bit more sense than before: a snowy mountain area to the north, a rainforest and a volcanic zone to the south, the latter of which connects to another mountainous area. Though, I have to admit, seeing a tropical beach and a desert next to those snowy peaks undermines the whole thing pretty much - it's still a patchwork map, after all. As far as I remember, Ga-Wahi wasn't that tropical back in the day, but I definitely like this change myself, too. (Again, a little connection to the jungle region, perhaps.) Seconded.

I agree that dark orange is a more appealing color than brown - but I think the keetorange and yellow from 2006-2009 are still the best out of the bunch. Yellow is one of the three primary colors and, coupled with green, red and blue, one of the four most popular color choices in color-coded themes, and also visually more catchy than either brown, reddish brown or dark orange. However, I can understand people don't find it too earthy or stone-related, but then again, I never really quite got this earth/stone divide as separate elements. Another sixth element, such as lightning or wood would have been much better, IMO. (Now they've merged air and wood into jungle, it seems, which is also an interesting choice.)

I may be a minority, but I always loved the stylized-yet-recognizable elements in Bionicle (and yeah, I've never been fond of the Chima ultrabuild elements introduced this year or the overly filled, packed, meant-to-be-naturalistic MOCs either). I think the new mould gives off the shield vibe rather nicely. Hmm, I agree with both sides to a certain degree, but I have to admit Kopaka looks a little bit too white - I think either changing his shield or his shell add-ons (or even his feet) to standard silver would have been a great help. Now basically the only things which are silver on the model are the torso and the spearhead - and unfortunately, the trans light blue isn't that much of a contrast either, being present mostly in the form of bones. Yeah, Tahu's and Gali's trans parts don't stand out that much either because of the similar hues in comparison to the solid-colored parts, but still - I would have liked Kopaka to be more balanced out color scheme-wise. But overall, a very solid design. On another note, am I the only one who thinks Onua, on the contrary, is rather colorful? I get the concept of giving golden armor to the larger sets and silver to the smaller ones and also the dual metallic color schemes (silver-gold and silver-dark silver, respectively), but the combination of purple, gold, black and silver seems a little bit much (I suspect the clash of purple and gold to be the main culprit).

I don't know, but to me the presentation was more about the whole concept of Bionicle from a business/marketing perspective including not only the "content", but also the "promotion" - not only the stuff which are important story-wise. But true, the books haven't been mentioned either. That's why I mentioned the backgrounds which are easier to find similarities with. But in general, the stylization of sets in MNOG and the new animations are on different levels. True, true, I think the black and white slide about animation style inspirations was rather a mood board and MNOG served as a starting point.

As there were no indication in the presentation at the NYCC, it is highly doubtful, I fear.

I'm not too fond of the new animation style - it's really nice, but gives off a vastly different vibe than previous Bionicle promo vids. And am I the only one who thinks it has - with minor exagerration - nothing to do with MNOG? MNOG was mostly set-accurate, only in 2D with contours. Comparing this new style to MNOG is like comparing it to Godzilla TAS or Duck Tales, 'cause hey, it's drawn! (Though I have to admit, the backgrounds/sceneries are kinda similar in stylization.) I'm gonna miss the ghost-rendered promo animations. Those were just marvelous.

Seriously disappointed seeing all those orange on Lewa. I don't like the fact some models use the SP torso instead of the BA one. And Gali's mask is really strange (reminds me of this). But apart from those... my wallet is crying right now.

Having an opinion is one thing, being offensive without reason is another. Could you please refrain from the latter? On the general discussion: using capitals does not make arguments stronger. I for one am amused how much effort is being put to refuse the official info. Life is hard, I guess.

Some of the sets I find especially pleasing aesthetics-wise (without any modifications) are Witch Doctor, Breakout Bulk, Core Hunter, Von Nebula and pretty much the whole Brain Attack wave but Scarox.

*thumbs up* Good posting, literally my thoughts. I don't see any plausible reason acceptable for that ending - nah, just what I said a few posts earlier.
-
Uhm, irony? That's the problem: the episode doesn't imply this. Breez offered a better (harmless) solution but it was made pointless by a terrible cliché and winning the day with guns (= harm > harmless). Gimmeabreak, LEGO.
-
I hope it's irony.
-
(only female) "Maybe this can be settled without guns!" *bland plot device* (bunch of males) "But hey kids, guns are better anyways!" DUH. >______<

That's why I said they're not the same pieces (partly because the dino tail forms a continuous curve and the Queen has visible sections on its wings, partly because of the connection you mentioned).
-
The closest thing I can compare them to are the dinosaur tail sections (3 pieces), but they do not look identical.
-
Uh, lighting or artistic license? There's no reason to show a part of a new set for a split second - it's still a toy brand, not a crime story. As I said, I don't see why would it be some other random kaiju than the queen - it wouldn't fit the dramaturgy of the trailer.
-
It's easily the multi-legged queen, shown at 0:44 and 0:48, too. Doubtful. Sometimes they're rendered with the use of normal HF parts for artistic reasons, but otherwise they are not scaled with other parts at all.
-
My thoughts exactly. It's really nice to read everyone discussing sets from various aspects but without having proper images it's somewhat... pointless.
