  1. Thank you Ankoku and Jonas. My parts inventory is growing as I am mis-ordering and over-ordering parts while I learn the part name, number, and how best to use Bricklink. It's all a wonderful learning experience. I was thinking of buying the Bucket Wheel Excavator 42055 strictly for parts. I don't want to build it as the excavator. I am running out of room for the few models I built and what I intend to build. Will have to develop a storage/sorting system for parts. I will keep researching the wheel lift, but I need to start the Ball Factory first. My plan is to begin after the end of October when I return from some traveling.
  2. Thank you for your reply. You did a fantastic job on your wheel lift and ball moving module. I will study it as best I can and maybe try to replicate it. Any additional photos or something that may help? Ankoku, thanks for your input. I have instructions for Akiyuki's wheel lift. Just trying to combine a few elements that I like. All this from a 73 year old Lego newbie that has built a total of two (2) technic models. The 42030 Volvo Wheel Loader (modified) and the 8043 Excavator (Jurgen Ultimate - completely by ordering all parts).. This forum continues to amaze me.
  3. Is it possible to use the Wheel Lift from Akiyuki's Fork-to-Fork to feed balls to his Cup-to-Cup module? I am intrigued by the wheel lift system. What I am really trying to duplicate is the wheel lift and ball moving system that Jonas did for his Ball Factory-XT. Does anyone know if a parts list or instructions exist for what Jonas did?
  4. Another good idea to follow up on. Thank you.
  5. Thank you Motomatt for that information and link. I will see if I can find it in a store just to check out the string as compared to what came with the 42009 set. Then I will order on Amazon.
  6. Hello from Florida. I have the 42009 kit and I ordered all of the parts to build the Grove GMK 6400 MOC. I am pretty new to Lego and to technic. I am 73 and retired. My question is...what string do you use for the extended boom? How much do I need? Where should I buy it here in the US? Can it be ordered on Bricklink? It looks like the string that comes with the 42009 kit is too short, and not used in the Grove MOC.
  7. Thank you for the measurements. No worries with the metric. Sounds good.
  8. Metric works for me. No problem. Thanks Rohan. And yes, a pint has to be a PINT! I am beginning the MOC 5509 of the Lego Crane 42009. I will have over 500 parts left over. I can then see what is applicable to the Ball Factory. Once that has been completed and the parts sorted out, I can place my final order for everything I am missing. I am guessing most of that order will be bricks, plates and tiles. I have a lot of gears, axles, and various connectors in my "overflow" bin.
  9. I agree that ALL red is a bit too much. I will be using blue bricks to build the base of the Bucket Wheel. I also have a lot of black technic beams to help break up the all red structures. I am also using quite a bit of yellow plates and tiles to top off the biggest of the red structures to give a different look. Obviously, all one color gives a more massive and continuous look, but I am totally new to any of this. Worst case, I can always swap out colors. But I have so many red bricks and plates and angle pieces, red it is going to be. I will post pictures along the way, but it will be another two months before I can begin building. I am doing some traveling until end of October. Being retired, I spend quite a bit of time traveling and roaming the world.
  10. That is a wonderful base. What size is the plywood, both the outside dimensions and the inside dimensions (inside the edging). I love the way you secure it with the axles an 2 x 4 technic plates. I may copy this idea, but Rohan, you certainly get the credit.
  11. I guess the good news...I can build it one way, and then very quickly and easily rebuild following the other way. It is outside of any internal structures, so easy to refit if I don't like the desired effects.
  12. On pages 64 and 65 of Blakbrids pdf instructions for the Ball Factory, he shows the PF - L motor mounted within the framework of the Initial Drive module, and mounted within the edge of the 48x48 baseplate. In the Rebricker instructions and videos, he has the motor mounted outside the Initial drive module framework, and hanging outside of the baseplate area. I hope I am making myself understood. Does anyone have any opinions, or direct knowledge of which assembly is better? I was hoping to build a base, and display cover for the Factory once completed. It would be nicer if the motor did not stick out past the base plate. As always, I thank everyone in advance for your valued input.
  13. Thanks for the quick responses. Amazing how dedicated and helpful this community is. I will look at the gear calculator.
  14. A few questions about powering the Great Ball Factory. All instructions call for a PF - L motor. 1. Can I use a PF - XL motor for more power and torque? 2. If so, does the speed of the motor drastically change how the factory operates? 3. Would it require different gearing to keep to the 1 ball per second, and what would that gearing be? Trial and error?
  15. Thank you all for your advice, encouragement, and warnings. If certain parts in red are too expensive, I may just use black or yellow as substitutes, as long as the overall color scheme looks pleasing and relatively symmetrical. I am finding that doing the research of the project, scouring websites, watching videos, and reading building manuals, is rather enjoyable. I am not easily frustrated and look forward to building this one module at a time. Testing and running one module at a time. And, integrating additional modules, one at a time. I think this will go a long way to understanding how each module functions, and it's timing and relationship to the modules in front of or behind it. Using a gray L PF motor is fine. I would not pay extra for a red one. I am not that much of a purist just yet. I think that the judicious use of alternate colors (black and yellow) will also help highlight some of the individual working components. I will continue to watch everything posted and continue to educate myself on the terminology, process, and outcomes. Stay tuned for more questions from me.
  16. Wow, thank you Rohan, Berthil, and Ankoku for your prompt responses and outstanding information and advice. I think that buying The Bucket Wheel Excavator - 42055 for parts is an outstanding idea. I have seen it on sale and will continue to track the pricing.I saw on the PV-Productions website that they made a GBC strictly out of the parts from that set, without adding anything extra. I have the Lego Technic Crane 42009 in my closet (unopened) and all of the extra parts to build the MOC 5509 Groove MKIII crane. That is my fall project with another grandson. Once I see what leftover parts I can use for the Great Ball Factory, I will order the balance of what I need. The Ball Factory will be a winter/spring project for me. But living in the Palm Beach, Florida area, winters are pretty nice! I might try to build the Fork - to - Fork with wheel lift first. I think I can incorporate that into the delivery system of the Great Ball Factory right where the balls come off the last conveyor and back to the staging tray to be brought up in the spiral lift. Everyone on the forum is amazing. BTW, one of my sons had a ton of red Lego bricks leftover from his childhood. I scavenged what I could, therefore, I will be building the Ball Factory in red, with lots of black and yellow technic pieces.
  17. I am new to this forum. I am relatively new to Lego. I am a 73 year old retired Yacht Broker. I have built 2 Technic models with my grandson. The Porsche 42056 and a MOC of the Volvo set 42030 with Effermans steering mods. I am now buying and gathering all the necessary parts for the Akiyuki Great Ball Factory. I have been watching Rebrickers videos and looking at the pdf created by Blakbird. There are differences. Any help or latest updates I should be aware of? I have read through this entire forum more than once. I do not have any inventory of Lego parts other than what I am ordering based on the parts lists for each module. Any parts that I should stock up on? I am getting nervous. Thanks to all for your previous comments. Everything here is most helpful.
