  1. @MajklSpajkl I just want to confirm that there is no pdf instructions for your modified Train Elevator module. Just the lxf file which I need to view in the LDD program? For some reason LDD does not run on my desktop, but it does run on my little 13" laptop. I was able to open the parts list from your io file. I am gathering the parts and will begin building this module soon. Can I use the Akiyuki pdf to get started?
  2. Thank you @nerdsforprez. That was going to be my approach. Build it completely, then strip away slowly and carefully.
  3. I bought the Chiron for the sole purpose of building it in the "cut-away" fashion as @nerdsforprez did. I built the Porsche GT3, but the way that model is constructed, it does not lend itself to a cut-away build. Too much cladding over the transmission and engine. Is there any advice, photos, or details you can share so I know how to proceed with the build? Worst case I would build it complete, then slowly and carefully remove parts from one side, while trying to maintain structural integrity. As a display model with a motor running the internal mechanicals, it would be awesome. Espcially with some internal LED lighting to highlight the transmission and engine.
  4. I like how the studless build is working out. I think it is more in keeping with a GBC and allows more of the "mechanisms" to show. Keep up the good work and keep the photos coming. I might consider trying to rebuild a module in studless, but I am almost afraid to touch the Ball Factory. We have a saying here in the US "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I get nervous messing around with something as delicately timed as the Ball factory. But what the heck, this is the world of LEGO and I am loving it. Too bad it took me 73 years to really jump into it.
  5. Great to hear from folks. I too am finishing obtaining the last of the parts needed for the Catch & Spin Robots. I am about 90% there. May start building anyway. I have lots of RED bricks and trying to decide to build it in RED, like I did my Ball Factory, or order the Dark Blue Gray. I guess I will eventually need lots of Dark and Light grays for all the future GBC projects I might build. Sorry if off topic. @Berthil, I am following your Ball Factory topic very closely, although I doubt I will rebuild mine. I am happy it works most of the time, and makes a great conversation piece. It still fascinates me and everyone else. I am also ready to build your revised Passing Module for the Train GBC. Back on topic :)
  6. Where is everybody? No posts in over a week. Is this a holiday period in Europe? Finished my 2 train units and everything fits and works perfectly. Still in the process of gathering parts to build the next few modules. I now have plenty of track on hand as well.
  7. I just finished (almost) 2 train units. I had to order a few 1x8 and 1x6 tiles in the Light Bluish Gray for the inside floor of the hopper. Will be a few days for the parts to arrive. Everything runs fine, no friction or binding anywhere. Motors reverse easily and the push bars move nicely. I think I did a good job of tucking in the PF cables so as not to interfere. I will know better once I get the hoppers finished and installed. I did use @Doug72 9L axle modification. Running with the standard PF AA Battery Box and M motors. I will work on @Berthil passing module. I ordered plenty of track and I have the switches on hand. I am gathering parts for the passing module, elevator, and rotary dumper.. Any detailed photos or parts lists or instructions for @Berthil counter-weight system on the elevator would be a great help. I love his design and how it functions.
  8. Thank you all for the quick replies and some insight to modifications. Keep the information coming.
  9. @Doug72 To quote a famous American baseball player from the past...."Say it ain't so". But, I can understand your frustration with this module. With my limited knowledge and very limited parts bin, I never would have attempted it in the first place. Be proud of the work you did and what you learned in the process.
  10. I was seriously considering building the Invisible Lift, and have gathered about half of the necessary part. But I think it is a big, complex, and expensive module to build for the movement of balls as a stand alone module. I had a change of heart and am now considering building the Fork-to-Fork module. Anyone have any insight, detailed photos, or improvements they would like to share? I am also active on the Train Layout forum as I am gathering parts to begin building a few of those modules as well.
  11. I built my Ball Factory about 6 months ago as my first GBC and my 3rd ever Lego build. The other 2 were earthmovers and diggers. While my Ball Factory is rather stable, it is also rather fragile. I put the base plates on a 5/8" thick piece of board, so I can move it from one area in the house to another. I would never attempt to move it outside the house or transport it. I will follow your Topic with great interest. Maybe I can offer some comments along the way. I built it completely from the Rebrickers videos. I have been debating what to do with it, as space in my house is at a premium. I am also starting to build the Akiyuki train GBC. I would hate to dismantle the Ball Factory, but now @Berthil has given me a renewed interest to continue to make it more reliable and stronger.

  13. Thanks to all regarding cutting and painting Lego parts. I will go to Bricklink for my needs. The Bugatti Chiron, set #42083 is the last numbered set I have to build after that, I guess I just need to build my inventory as I continue to build Lego GBC's and MOCs.
  14. @Nudipics Thanks for that quick reply. I was able to find the wheels and include them in my Bricklink order. As far as your reverser problem, look at some of the earlier postings by @Berthil and how he modified the "pole Reverser Switch".. If you are using a new style switch, the indents are too tight. The switch needs to be opened up and the indents cut away. I ordered new style switches and plan to grind down the indents with my Dremel tool so the move smoothly and not "click" into position. Definitely check some of the early pages on this forum.
  15. I am having a problem getting the correct part number for the 4 train wheels needed for the train unit. Cannot seem to find it on Bricklink. The number in the parts list does not seem to exist. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have a parts order ready to go and want to see if I can add the wheels to it.
  16. Quite true about reusing bricks and beams and other components. Always need to think ahead. Good advice. Money is not really my problem, just trying to use up what little inventory I have.
  17. Is it considered "acceptable" to cut lego components when needing different sizes? Such as cutting a 1x15 technic beam to 1x13, or smaller? Also, is it "acceptable to paint Lego in case you need a black brick or beam and you only have a Dark Bluish Gray? I have a lot of beams in 15L and in DBG, but I need them at varying lengths such as 1x9, 1x11 and 1x13.. I also need them in different colors such as black, yellow and orange. I know the paint adds thickness and can make pins, etc a very tight fit.
  18. @Berthil I just want to confirm that your new instructions and parts list is a much improved replacement for the Akiyuki Train Passing Module. I will only need to add track and switches. I am getting ready to order parts. Also awaiting any close up photos, or any possible detail on your counter-weight system for the Train Elevator. Anything that would help me determine the parts I need, and how it connects to the main elevator frame. By the way, I sit on a Board of Directors for a financial management company that is owned by a fellow countryman of yours. It is called Van Leeuwen & Co., based in Princeton NJ. Wonderful people.
  19. @Doug72 That is an incredible piece of engineering. Far beyond my skills and my available parts. I am amazed at the work that you and others have done recently. The train unit that @Berthil has done, and his parts list and instructions is also awesome. I will probably use his passing module when I am ready to build that section. Great work by all!
  20. Thanks for the information and the link. I will see if I can make it work.
  21. @Berthil You definitely have my support as well. Very interesting build. Good luck with it. @BrianGT When and where is there a Brickfair in NC? Depending on dates, I might drive up from sunny Florida.
  22. @Ankoku Nice storage units. I think I can get away with one of those towers. I have a few of the small storage boxes with bins inside and a locking cover. I have one larger box where I keep bigger parts in zip-lock bags, Thanks for offering those suggestions.
  23. Thanks @Berthil for that quick reply. I have the list for the Invisible Lift uploaded to Bricklink (I am learning), so as I check off items on my printed list, I will also delete, or adjust needed quantities on my Bricklink wanted list. Good idea about keeping multiple lists so I can save on shipping. I know that I will not be able to get everything I need from one or two vendors. Unfortunately I do not have a room full of large and small storage bins to pre-sort everything. My wife will need to relinquish more of the house I bought her :)
  24. Any thoughts on how best to scavenge parts from my Bucket Wheel Excavator (Set #42055) that I need for the Invisible Lift? I have printed out the complete parts list for the Invisible Lift, and the parts list for the BWE. As I see common parts (regardless of quantity), I start going through each bag in the BWE box and carefully removing the parts I need. It is slow and tedious. I imagine that as I keep gathering parts, the amount that I have to sort through will get smaller. Is there really any method to this madness? I don't want to just dump everything into a large container and rummage through 1,000's of parts.
  25. I purchased the building instructions from Akiyuki for the Catch and Spin Robots. Just wondering if anyone has built this yet? Any issues, improvements, mods, etc? It is not high on my list right now as I am sourcing parts for the Invisible Lift and the Train components, but I do like this module and will eventually build it. Maybe use the Akiyuki snake slide to feed the balls back into the front load hopper, or a version of @Berthil ball ramp on his Invisible Lift. That would make this little module a stand-alone module with a complete loop for the balls.
