  1. Looks a lot better! But, yes, you'll need to take a clearer picture. I'm trying to think of something else to jazz it up...the only thing I can think of is if you want to make a second level and put a little office above the garage. I'd suggest a desk with at least a computer, a mug and maybe some letter tiles. If you have any printed tiles with car-like designs (race-car numbers or something), you could put those on the walls. The other thing is that most minifigure scale floors are 7 bricks high. Your garage is 5 bricks and 1 plate high, so you can make your current model with taller walls. I suggest using 2 plates in there to give the wall some designs. Even if you do a simple blue line every 2 layers of bricks. That would match up with your blue shelf. Hope that helps! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And now I see that there are new entries, let's take a look. Flamenco Dancer - beautiful! I can easily imagine the dancer on stage. I love those chairs for the audience, the flag is very nicely designed and so is the catwalk with hanging lights above the stage. Very nicely done. Mechanic - Nice design here with the car above the work pit (not really sure what it's called, but I've seen these pits in almost every garage). It'd be nice to see another angle, alongside the car. And not to be nit-picky, but I'd make sure the engraved license plate tile is okay with the rules. I know we can do custom decals, but does that include engraving?
  2. Ah, wasn't sure, but it's very nicely detailed! It is hard to compete with someone else doing the exact same thing, especially if you aren't sure that yours is "better." Keep brainstorming! Hopefully something even cooler will come to mind.
  3. I'm so glad I could help, and that you didn't take my comments negatively. I'm looking forward to your revised version! You're welcome! That's important that you feel it captured what you were going for. Nothing's worse than a build coming out wrong and not the way you intended. And nothing's wrong with simple if it does what's suppose to do. Yours does. I can't think of much to add, except maybe another minifigure like a scared customer. But then it might be too crowded.
  4. Here's my opinions on the creations in Category A so far. Sweet Dreams - Awesome! I love the unusual building design of the dream bubbles. I think it's a great use of the mini-doll too. The bunk bed is a cool design. End of the Rainbow - I like the use of the tire for the pot of gold. Nice grassy design. The background is a little too square for me, but I don't have any suggestions on how to improve it, sorry. Inspiration - neat use of levels, but I'm a little confused as to where the skater girl fits into the design. Butcher's Deli - very nice counter! Looks snazzy! I also like the floor and wall designs. I'm just a little confused as to what the red thing on the right wall is. I don't go to many delis. Genie - that's a lot of gold. Just curious, if you have a better picture, why didn't you link it in your post? Intergalactic Girl & Alien - very nice designs for the ship hallway. I'm just wondering whether you can do a MOC for two different figures. I thought the contest was to just pick one? Minotaur's Tower - that's mine and well, I love it! But I would like to know what others think of it too. Respecting the Fallen - very dramatic with such a minimalist design - I like! It evokes exactly what it needs, no more, no less. This is a Hold Up - made me smile! Another simple design that works so effectively. Sleep Tight - creepy, very creepy...makes me nervous about going to be tonight. lol! Really good design for the monster and the bedroom. Surgeon Hospital - this made me laugh! A skeleton, boy that doctor takes a while. And by the way, the surgeon is female. Most don't notice, but her torso has curves and she has eye lashes. But without the lips and hair, most people, me included, don't noticed. Anyway, good hospital equipment design. I like the red cross at the bottom. Alien UFO - love the micro build, but just wondering how the minifigure fits into the scale. Wouldn't the alien be too big? Otherwise, I really like the design. I could instantly recognize the barn and sheep pen. Mechanic's Garage - It's a bit too simple for me, I'm afraid. I don't mean to be mean or anything, but I don't really get that it's garage. Just looks like 2 white walls with some vehicle parts. Maybe make a tool rack on the wall. You've got a start with the wrench. Maybe a few more would make it more realistic. Maybe make a stool - I always see garages having various stools around. Also, that blue shelf, you should put 1X1 bricks (round and square) capped with a round 1X1 plate to simulate various bottles and containers of oil and other things that would be in a garage. I also suggest taking a clearer picture. It's a little fuzzy. I hope my comments are helpful for you to revise your MOC. I do want your first contest entry to be an enjoyable journey. hmm...that's all that's posted for now. I'll be back once more entries are up. Looking forward to seeing how this contest shapes up.
  5. I've written a lot of short stories. I succeeded in writing a novel for National Novel Writing Month a few years ago. While I have a 54,000 word novel, it's a complete mess because I wrote it in 26 days. I think I'm going to return to my short stories and try to publish a collection. And to all those people who have written a novel, but can't get a publisher to publish it, you can always do it yourself. I highly recommend CreateSpace as that's what we used for my husband's book The Cleric. It automatically lists it on Amazon and there are options for expanded distribution. We also made a Kindle Ebook version pretty easily. The hard part is self-promoting, but we're taking it slowly. We started with a Facebook Fan Page. Next step is creating press kits and sending those out to get reviews.
  6. I'm pretty much with everyone else, most of my LEGO dreams are of finding or buying some really cool set and then waking up and realizing it's not real... very sad. But I also dream of LEGO when I'm in the middle of building something. I try not to start a building project unless I know I can finish it before I go to bed. Otherwise, I sleep restlessly as my brain tries to continue building in my sleep. Just this past week, I didn't finish my Minotaur's Tower for the CMF Series 6 contest before I went to bed. I thought I'd be okay since I knew exactly what needed to be finished and knew how to do it. Regardless, I spent the night finishing the last floor over and over in my dreams. I made sure to finish it after work the next day. The worst dreams are when I don't know how to complete a build and I get anxiety dreams, also of me building, but usually not able to, like my hands won't work right or my eyes won't focus or I don't have the right pieces. Those are close to nightmares. My husband has the same issues which is why on his last build, he stayed up all night to finish, until 5 am when I woke up for work. He knew wasn't going to get any sleep anyway. So he went to bed just as I got up. Said he'd been working 10 hours straight on it.
  7. I see and understand a lot of the points as to why AFOLs aren't really getting into CUUSOO, but at the same time I don't see why people don't have more optimism. It won't happen if people don't try. I love the concept and opportunity that CUUSOO presents. But it is a little discouraging that the only way to get to 10,000 votes seems to be in turning to non-AFOLs to support it. I hope that changes, but I know it'll take a while. For all the 2,000+ projects on CUUSOO, only a handful have real potential. If anyone is interested, I've written several blogs about CUUSOO and intend to keep writing and promoting CUUSOO. I still think it can be a great vehicle for AFOLs to get their LEGO projects made. CUUSOO Introduction Navigating CUUSOO Giving CUUSOO Feedback And here's a blog that the admin did: CUUSOO Feature Project - RetroSpace I have another one coming up, highlighting other projects by the person who did RetroSpace.
  8. Minotaur’s Tower Minifigure: Minotaur Theme: Castle Fantasy In the center of the Labyrinth dwells the Minotaur. In his tower, he lives and works. He spends much of his time plotting against the wannabe heroes that invade his maze, but in his downtime he relaxes with good wine, savory food and an enthralling book. The four levels of his tower from top to bottom are: Parapet Workshop Bedroom Man Cave The top two levels are his work zone, for the most part. The parapet features a spyglass for him to keep an eye on his Labyrinth and a crossbow in case he feels like hunting from afar. But it’s not all work as he’s set up a rooftop garden of flowers to calm his inner beast. The next level down is the workshop where he redesigns his maze with a miniature model, a chalk board and a red cushioned stool to sit upon. The maze is color-coded depending upon what stage of redesign each section is in. Tan is to remain as is, black is in the process of being redone and white is still to do. The lower two levels are where he goes to get away from it all. His bedroom features a comfortable bed, a shelf of his favorite action figures and his award axe. To highlight his action figures, he installed wood paneling to contrast with the drab gray stone of the tower. As for the axe, he was awarded it at the last Annual Labyrinth Convention for the most number of heroes defeated in hand-to-hand combat in a year. He’s most proud of this accomplishment, which can be seen in further evidence in his man cave. The bottom floor features a luxurious armchair that practically envelops the Minotaur when he sits in its cushy confines. A side table contains his favorite pewter goblet, a bottle of fine wine and a good book (romance, of course; he gets enough adventure in his daily life, but doesn’t have the time to look for love). Before him is a table of scrumptious food with his favorite pie – banana cream. And last, but not least, his crowning achievement! On the wall are mounted tokens of his greatest hunting feats. The pirate was especially challenging as the bugger kept swinging on the vines hanging from the walls of the maze. For those daring adventurers, here are further close-ups on the Minotaur Tower. Thank you for checking out my entry. I hope you enjoyed it! Design notes: The wood paneling behind the microfigures is sideways building with 15 layers of white and brown plates to get the zig-zag pattern. The final layer has plates on the top and 3rd stud down with tiling on the 2nd and 4th stud. The arm chair on the first floor is too narrow for a minifigure to sit in it, but I went for the look of it rather than the functionality. On a side note, a minidoll does fit it so I may use the design for a Friends build.
  9. It probably got removed if the creator was under the age of 18. Hopefully, it'll get reinstated when the person turns 18. Or maybe someone else will do it. To get back to the topic at hand, I also doubt LEGO will ever do this as they want us to buy multiple copies of licensed sets to get the pieces we need. But, boy would it be nice to have a bucket of castle parts... At this point, I'd be happy if they did the tree pack or fences... or just something in bulk other than basic bricks.
  10. Oh, okay. Thanks for letting me know it's the batch number. My friend thought it was the factory code, as in which factory it came from, but it's what batch it came from. Makes much more sense. I do hope they have it fixed before I get to buying a copy.
  11. Thanks so much! I've been showing the model to people to see if they can guess what it is. Quite a few people got it while others say it's familiar, but don't get it until I tell them and then they're like, "Oh, yeah! Of course!" I'm so glad to hear that the book got translated into other languages! I also feel the need to reread it again after building this. My copy is in storage, but I'm thinking of checking it out from the library. Thanks for the constructive comments. I also couldn't think of any other way to get the eyes small, but I'm glad it doesn't detract too much. And the sandals are one of my favorite parts. As much as I'm not fond of the minidolls, she does work perfectly for this MOC. I have no girl minifigures and cobbling one together from various parts just wasn't working. When I realized that I planned to use the blond Friends hair, it just came to me to use the whole figure. So it's Stephanie's hair, head and top, but I stole Olivia's bottom half. This made the blue dress similar to what's on the cover. Works for me.
  12. Does anyone know which factory is factory code is 03R2. A friend bought the Town Hall and as they've built it, they've found quite a few missing pieces, up to 11 at last count. They called customer service and the rep asked them to find the factory code on the sticker/tape that closes the box up. It's hard to read, but the code was 03R2. The rep wouldn't tell them which factory this is, but I'm wondering if one of the factories doesn't have good quality checks because I've heard from other people that they've been finding more missing pieces than normal. Though I don't know which factory code their boxes came from. Just curious if anyone knows or has been tracking factory codes.
  13. I hope this is the right forum to post this in. Our local LEGO club is going to be putting a LEGO display into a local library branch. The theme of books was chosen to connect the LEGO creations to the library. So I chose a childhood favorite The BFG by Roald Dahl to create in LEGO form. The BFG in LEGO by Mr&MrsBricksalot, on Flickr In case anyone is not familiar with the book or the original cover, here's a side-by-side comparison. Sadly, most modern versions of the book don't use this full image or they use different artwork completely, but this is what I grew up with. Comparison of MOC vs. Book Cover by Mr&MrsBricksalot, on Flickr Please let me know what you think. I've never made a brick-built person before, but I think I did pretty well, only having to modify a few things since I was limited by what I had on hand. But I'd like to know if there is anything I can improve. I'm also happy since this is the first MOC that I've been able to include a Friends doll. I'm not particularly fond of the dolls, but I think this one fit very well, being the closest I had to a little girl in a dress. I really only have castle peasants and princess/queens.
  14. Very very cool! I'll be checking out your blog and the new magazine. Sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck and I'll definitely be rooting for your project to get to 10,000!
  15. I agree! This would be very very cool. Have all sorts of dark gray, light gray, black, and reddish brown in all the important Castle pieces like doors, windows, walls, maybe even some rock walls. The list could go on for a long time, but it'd be very cool to get and I also think it would be very popular.
  16. 1. Are you male or female? Female 2. How old are you? 31 3. How old were you when you got your first Lego set and what was it? I don't remember exactly, but most of my sets date back to the early 90's so I was probably between 10 and 12. I don't know which set was first, sorry. 4. What is your favourite theme (past or present) and why? As a kid, my favorite theme was a toss-up between Castle and Paradisa. Paradisa really reached the girly side of me with the whimiscal sets. And I loved dolphins! Castle touched the side of me that loved fantasy. I grew up reading and watching a lot of fantasy books and movies. Today, the fantasy LEGO sets are definitely my favorite and that includes Castle, Pirates, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pharaoh's Quest, Prince of Persia... and I'm definitely looking forward to Lord of the Rings and the Monster Fighters. I would be 100% behind the Friends line if it had minifigures instead of the mini-dolls, but I will give the line credit as it does appeal to the little girl inside me who still loves Paradisa. The tree-house is one of my favs and I'll be buying the Friends sets for parts and tossing the bald minidolls aside (I'll keep their hair, of course). 5. Why do you like Lego? As an adult, I like LEGO for many reasons. It's fun, for one. It's challenging too. It helps me relieve the daily stresses. It's a hobby that my husband and I do together - we build almost everything together and it's been the greatest experience of my life, bringing us so much closer to each other. We compliment each other in our building styles. My husband likes to build big things and I love to do the detailing. It just works out so well. Oh, and I love the social aspects of belonging to a club.
  17. Even though only Ilrion was featured at the NY Toy Fair, I'm still hopeful that the other locations that are on the online map of Heroica will also be released as sets this year. I'm just wondering if they'll be late releases like in September. I'm also hoping they have made it so that the sets all connect. Maybe the small polybag Ganrash is the connector? I'm also steamed about the Hoth game not coming to the US. Stupid licensing! I paid way too much to get Lunar Command and I really don't want to do the same for Hoth. I'm hoping that a friend of mine can pull through and get his friend in England to buy our group a bunch of them so we can share the high shipping costs. Also, March should see the release of City Alarm as well as Kokoriko and Mini Taurus. I just haven't seen much about the latter two so I don't know if they really are coming out. TRU is selling City Alarm so I really wonder about the timing of the other two. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I just really enjoy the LEGO board games and hope they continue to sell well so that the line will continue.
  18. That is an awesome little dragon! Great design. I'd definitely love to buy that little guy. Have you thought about putting him up on CUUSOO after the contest is over?
  19. I like most of the architecture sets with only a few looking silly. The cost has always stopped me from buying them, but I am looking forward to seeing what people make in the contest as I know there are some very talented builders here who can make more intricate designs than LEGO has.
  20. Simply awesome! Makes me want an NXT even more.
  21. And anyone wanting to read the first chapter can find it on CreateSpace.
  22. I wrote another blog about CUUSOO, this time about navigating the site. I also highlighted some more projects.
  23. In case anyone is interested, I just did a blog on CUUSOO, introducing it and highlight a few of my favorite popular projects. I should have another blog posted soon going over navigating CUUSOO and highlighting some more favorite projects, but these ones are not very well known.
  24. That is very cool!! Great feature and can't wait to see the second version of the Winchester!
  25. I'm so glad to see your project growing in support. Hopefully my recent blog on CUUSOO will help. I highlighted The Winchester as one of my favorite projects, which it really is. I hope you make it to 10,000 votes!
