I wasn't trying to criticise, just adding ideas. It's good to hear that you thought it over ;) - Sok. -
8 Lego straight rails make about one meter. A Lego rail curve has a total diameter of 88 studs, which is about 70cm. Lego straight track pieces are 16x8 studs, and one stud is exactly 0.8 centimetres, so you can work it all out from there. In terms of what is nice to have for a decent railway, that's all up to you. For variation I like to have at minimum two interconnected circles so you can run at least two trains simultaneously. - Sok.
-
I would try to connect the two circles for more flexibility in running the trains.

I'm (still) selling a bunch of 12v-era sets, instructions and parts in my bricklink store Prices are not set in stone, offers are welcome and you can expect a small EB member discount if you can verify that you are an active member here. - Sok.

Are you sure you want to go with the huge rectangular surface? With so many tables you could make it more irregularly shaped, both for easier access to the center and more variation. - Sok. -

One of the small 9v batteryboxes should fit?

Ah yeah you used the 24t gears, I guess the 16-t ones have too much leeway. I was tempted to make the switch system more direct but that would severely reduce the chances of building a believable loc around it :) I'll fiddle with it some more. Do you have a pic of the exact transmission you used? - Sok.

I'm trying to build a pneumatic engine for L-gage using the wheel base from the Emerald Night. It's still a prototype but the construction is fairly simple with two pneumatic switches being thrown at a quarter offset to move the pistons: (it's difficult to see but the two pistons have a quarter offset) The problem seems to be the timing of the switches. Yesterday evening I had it nailed perfectly and it actually rolled across the floor at a decent pace (me following with the pump :) But I changed it a bit since and I can't seem to get the timing right, I always need to give it a little push here or there to keep it running. Any tips on making that go smoother? Initially I wanted to build it with the small cylinders but their working range is less than 3 studs so they won't make the full circle :/ Ideally I'd want to make it a little smaller with a loc around it and run it (probably not very fast, but hey) off of a 100% lego compressor to be carried behind it. - Sok.

When I was little (like, 13 years old or something) we used to play age of empires and red alert and such on LAN parties and I had to come up with a nickname..I had been reading some light philosophy around that time so I choose the oldgreek Sokrates, adding the z because it doesn't change the pronunciation of the word yet makes it stand out. - Sok.

I did it today, shelved out 300€ for a complete 7750 with box, instructions and some track. Will be selling the box and instructions to recoup some of that money ;) - Sok.

This soo asks for a micromotor.
-
If you're just looking for a new motor, 9v ones in good condition are cheap to come by.
-
Why would you want to do that? You can just replace the entire motor plus housing with a PF one, they are really cheap.

I just won this: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/320777181818?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 :)
