Any Lego Events around the West Midlands?
brickbitz replied to AwesomeStar's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
This is the place you need to have a look. Brickish Association There are various displays put on throughout the year and there should be plenty of details on the public side of the site. Without a doubt the biggest is always at the STEAM museum in Swindon usually in October, the display's are amazing and last year Jan from LEGO was there to reveal Medieval Market to us, just before the start of the show If you want to "break" into the "physical" UK community this is the association to join, we're all LEGO mad .Even if you don't want to join the Association, you're always welcome to come along to public displays and have a chat. -
Blimey that was quick. Looked last night and the offer was on Checked back this morning to maybe purchase a couple and it's already finished and the product now shows as discontinued. Over the last couple of years, these sort of sales seem to have declined in number. Argos currently has last year's battle packs showing as clearance at £5.99 , they're out of stock for home delivery, good luck finding any at your local stores. Mine haven't got any... Our local CO-OP toy section has stock of some of the new sets but even so actual LEGO shelf space has declined again, it keeps getting pushed out by Playmobile. Don't know what happened to the stock they didn't sell before Christmas, most of it has now disappeared to make way for the new stuff. Slightly off topic but relevant is one theme we won't see in UK shops this year. Apparently lacking at the UK toyfair this week, Space Police 3 has been confirmed as a US trial only.

I actually saw all of those new Star Wars sets in my local CO-OP today and was vastly underwhelmed. Although to be fair I picked up a Clone Walker Battle Pack and actually did like it. The little walker whilst simple makes a nice little addition, and at least I can fill up my Gunship with troops. How come you managed to get the catalogue a day early ? It's not released until the 17th here in the UK. I'm especially looking forward to hopefully picking up Shanghai Chase.

Land busters 4404 £15 at woolworths
brickbitz replied to Buttons's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Unfortunately I think you may have missed the boat. These offers appeared a couple of weeks ago and the lucky ones placed their orders first and received the dusty stock from the back of an old warehouse. Most of the super sale items were only in stock for a couple of days before being snapped up, unfortunately Woolies are pretty slack when updating available items on their website, I doubt very much there will be any more in stock. You can always try and place the order and they will send an email saying they are awaiting stock. In a couple of weeks you will finally get another email admitting it is a discontinued item and they will not be able to fufill the order. Sadly I'm speaking from previous experience here. Of course I could always be wrong and they discover more lurking somewhere. Stranger things have happened. -
Free LEGO sets with the Daily Mirror
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Got to my local woolies yesterday morning and they had already run out of the police helicopter. It's only a small store so I guess they didn't have a large allocation of stock. Looks like I'll have to do the collection by post as I've no chance of getting there during the week. -
Free LEGO sets with the Daily Mirror
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I've been wondering what the sets are going to be , never thought of checking back on their site. Thanks for the update, there's a nice little mix of sets there. My newspaper recycling bin may get rather full over the next couple of weeks. -
For those not already aware of the news, the Daily Mirror in the UK will be giving away 12 free LEGO toys starting Sat 18th October with a police helicopter. The vouchers are redeemed each day at Woolworths or Early Learning Centre to collect your toy. There's also a competition to win 10 LEGO City cranes For more information visit the Daily Mirror

I've just got back from the Brickish STEAM event in Swindon. It was unveiled here today as well. It truly is a fantastic set and looks even better in the flesh They wouldn't let us take it away for safe keeping For anyone visiting tomorrow Sunday 5th , it's still setup in one of the LEGO display cases to drool over.

I am a bit sceptical Woolies often seem to have stuff in the catalog / online that they don't have any stock of and never will have. These things get put on in error and then left lying around. Last year it was the Orient Expedition Dragon palace at £45 , they accepted the order but then a couple of weeks later an email arrived saying it was a discontinued product and they couldn't fill the order. To be fair though I did find a 7153 Slave I for £6 ( reduced 50% from £13 ) that just appeared out of nowhere on the shelves a couple of years ago, long after they had disappeared from general retail, so you never know.....

Review: 7979 Castle Advent Calendar (First Look)
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Good point as there are no Santa's or Christmas trees. Actually IMHO they save the best til last, it is in fact the Jester on the 24th. ( Assuming I'm looking at the back properly ) -
Review: 7979 Castle Advent Calendar (First Look)
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Sorry in my excitement, the box has all been cut up for the pictures and I have no idea of the weight. Yep, the black one in the picture -
So S@H delivered the goods today and I literally couldn't wait until December so here you are. First off the instructions in two parts. With a total of nine figures there are 5 "good guys" including the jester and the maiden. You also get two knights and a dwarf. Nice to see lots of different accessories for these figures. The jester is great, I never picked up a "Harley Quinn" figure , so this is the first time I've really seen the hat. The "bad guys" consist of 2 skeletons, a troll and the witch. Assorted weaponry for both sides, there are plenty of weapons included in this set. General Castle goodies. It's nice to see buckets , cauldrons, food , a table with gold goblet and plate. The rest of the bits, including a mine cart for the dwarf, a rock with a jewel, plus assorted animals. There are also the usual small pieces spare as is common with these sets, nothing special though. In summary this is simply a must buy for all Castle fans, and even those who aren't into Castle can probably find a use for most of the accessories anyway. Definitely a 10/10 from me.

True, you just have to find twice as much money in the first place... As a collector of both I'm starting to lean towards Castle, it is definitely easier on the wallet, and as others have said gives a wider range of scope for MOC's and using your own imagination. Star Wars will always be stuck in the Star Wars universe. The recent Castle range has been great with the figures, parts and of course trolls. I'm sure some sort of Castle theme will continue long after the Star Wars license lapses.

My local Woolworths in the UK has it , along with the droid gunship on a special display stand but strangely no other sets. However at £50 , I'll wait for one of their regular 25% discount promotions. I have yet to take the plunge on any clone wars sets, my wallet just can't take it at the moment.

Why are Pirate LEGO UK eBay Auctions so darn cheap?
brickbitz replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Personally I think it's because there's a lot of snipers out there. I've lost count of the seemingly cheap bargain LEGO auctions I've lost due to last second sniping. In fact I rarely bother with Ebay these days. -
A very nice build I like it a lot. The "hard suit" was really my favourite part of that set and you've done a great job, at the same time fixing the weakest point , which were the useless technic arm pieces. My only suggestion would be hands more in line with the exo-force three finger style, to give it an extra bit of functionality.

Having just read this I thought I'd offer my humble opinion from a parent's perspective. Your mum is possibly concerned you will spend all your money on LEGO and generally fritter it away. Perhaps you could reach a compromise by agreeing to save so much each month, perhaps even 50% on the basis you are free to spend the rest on whatever you deem fit. I must admit I don't see why you are not allowed to be in charge of your own bank card, that does seem unfair especially considering your age. If it were a savings account built up over time that would be different, but if we're talking about income you're earning yourself then it should really be yours. Why not suggest opening another account for spending and agree an amount to transfer in that you can freely spend each month. If my own teenage daughter earnt her wages through hard work I wouldn't feel I had the right to tell her what to spend it on. By the same token I wouldn't expect her to come and ask me for money for something if she had spent all her own. It's all about balance and trust, if you prove to your mum that you can handle your money responsibly then I can't see any reasonable grounds for her being able to dictate what you are allowed to spend it on. Just out of interest if you spent it all on DVD's and Console games would that be okay, being as it's not so "childish" ?

7666 Hoth Rebel Base in UK again
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Wouldn't have thought so, it's only appeared just recently on the site. When I searched the TRU website recently during the Indiana Jones promotions there was no 7666 on there at all. Also a friend picked one up down London way on Saturday and confirmed there were a few on the shelves. Not sure which TRU it was though, but this is what made me lookup their site again today. Maybe people have checked out the link today and brought up the current supply? . I nearly added a couple myself when I first found it , but I gotta save for that Death Star ya know. -
7666 Hoth Rebel Base in UK again
brickbitz replied to brickbitz's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Update: Just checked again and the website is already out of stock. Hopefully more are on the way.... -
For all those UK members who may be interested 7666 Hoth Rebel base is back in TRU. I have had reports of it in various stores and it is in stock for order direct from the TRU website in the UK. 7666 Hoth Rebel Base Better get em quick, it might not last....

I like the look of it and there's plenty of figures but £279 for a 12+ playset Whilst parents may fork out a couple hundred quid on games consoles, I really can't see this under too many Christmas trees and a lot of AFOL's are put off by the price as well. Afterall it's not quite as cool as a display of the UCS Falcon is it ???? Even I might have to think seriously about this one based on the price ( and you thought the Giant Castle Chess set was expensive)
-
I do like tiny turbos and have most of the individual vehicles sitting on my shelf. They're handy to display being so much smaller and taking up less room. As already mentioned they also have great parts, the only trouble is that they do start to look very similar after a while. Some of the larger sets are great at sale prices. A surefire way to boost your parts collection.

Hot on the heels of the Indiana Jones 3 for 2, I noticed today the TRU UK website is offering a Mars Mission deal. Spend over £25 on Mars Mission and get either MT21 Mobile Mining Unit or MT31 Trike for free. The offer ends on 3rd July according to their terms and conditions. Oh yeah and apparently you can't buy multiple MT21's or MT31's as part of the £25 spend
