If TLG brings back the Western theme
brickbitz replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Definitely non licensed. Firstly which license would they use? Modern westerns are not overly popular these days and they're not exactly child friendly either. Secondly there's obviously a wider ranging scope with no tie in, plus of course the already mentioned cost. -
Another nice MOC full of little details. As it's an official part I guess it's legal. The wheel looks great suspended from the side of the building.

I agree with you Tohst... Technically my colour perception is poor ( according to my failure with the dotted cards), but I have no difficulty with primary colours. In poor light I might not spot the difference between bley and grey but I suspect a few people suffer that anyway Still sorting by colour is not efficient if you have a huge number of parts. I tried it once but found it almost impossible to locate anything easily. The bricks were just a sea of yellow, knowing that the 1x2 part is in there somewhere just makes it more frustrating. Still if you like rummaging for hours who am I to stop you? My only observation is that whatever system you choose it will naturally evolve over time as your collection grows. In fact I'm pretty sure that the storage method is inversely proportional to the size of your collection.

The lego star wars playsets aren´t that bad
brickbitz replied to darkrebellion's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think the whole point is that the beauty of LEGO is that it's what you make it. Some of the "playsets" are a little lacking in detail, but then you can always expand on it and modify it to your hearts content. -
No problem, I have seen some people say 8th June for the end of the offer and some stores seem to have confirmed this date. It's typical though, the offer has been on for a couple of weeks and TRU are only just getting stock of this set, although it has featured in their campaign from the start. Still all's well that ends well. Not often you get a chance for a brand new limited edition set at reduced prices.

Sets that Make Great Part Sets
brickbitz replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've recently acquired some of the Insectoid /UFO sets. Although the set design can be a bit weak the larger models are a great source for the more unusual parts, which you don't see a lot of these days. -
I'm actually getting sadder the more I see Agent sets. That's because I now know I'll need them all and it's going to cost me another small fortune on top of the already large allocated summer LEGO budget. Good job I live by the seaside and don't need holidays....

Another good issue. Some great articles in there.

The offer applies both online and in store but the official end date is tomorrow 5th June according to the website. Sorry but I don't do stickers at all. I'll try and get some box shots in the morning.

Yes, it was the TRU in Ipswich.

So I stopped by my local TRU today and I spotted this set in an opened box near the LEGO shelves. I thought I'd save them the trouble of having to put it out and bought it straight away. As usual read the full 7628 Peril in Peru review over at Brickbitz

Thanks for the review. I have to concede this does appear to be the weakest set of the summer MM lineup. I've noticed a trend that the larger sets have plenty of parts potential but when assembled the model is not more than the sum of the parts... Eagle Base certainly didn't seem worth the asking price, at least this is one large model. On a positive note the lame aero tubes, darts and martian carrier pods have disappeared. Don't get me wrong, I love MM and most of the lineup is great, this one just seems to fall a little short of the BAR.

I was in the big shop a few weeks ago. IMHO they currently have a good selection of parts to choose from certainly not limited to just basic bricks. It's sold by weight and the current price is £4.50 for 100gms, which makes £45 per kilo.

Some great figures there. I too think the 5th Doctor with white trousers is the best one. I like the dandy 3rd doctor costume, it's a shame that hairpiece dosen't come in white or grey. I'd even be tempted to try swapping the original 5th and 3rd hairpieces around

Another great review. I'm looking forward to getting this set sometime soon. I wasn't aware of the power function aspect, similar I suppose to the old technic sets which had an additional instructions for those with the relevant motors. I knew those dino's I got at clearance would come in useful. Nice to see the recent "bulldozer" treads appearing in black. Grey seemed a slightly unusual colour choice.

Review - Agents 8635 Mobile Command Center
brickbitz replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the great review. I initially wasn't keen on the Agents lineup but as the reviews for the sets have appeared on EB I've found myself more and more interested. Hopefully they'll appear here in the UK soon. ( but not too soon I'm running low on funds after Coastguards ) -
The technic cannons with competition arrow are getting on my nerves a bit, I have loads lying around. They seem to have been included in most Batman , Exoforce sets recently and I have yet to see any included in 99.99% of mocs. ( I have seen one used creatively in a mini steam engine)

1259
brickbitz replied to Skipper 24's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I did recognise the name Anyone can use Bricklink, there are a lot of UK based stores on there, if you want to email me I can give you a list of one's I'd recommend. All the prices are in dollars but UK sellers normally accept payment in GBP, it's converted using either a fixed rate set by the seller or based on a site like www.xe.com. Currently a rough guide is $1 = 50p -

Shame they didn't do the same in my local ASDA No doubt someone got some bargains... -

I think that the Star Wars sets you mentioned were much more of a find. 1259 for 30p is okay but the pieces aren't that useful on their own. Star Wars on the other hand is very collectable and £7 for a new Gungan Sub is a great price. Out of interest , how long ago are you talking? I haven't seen any older Star Wars stuff for a couple of years now. -
8455 Backhoe Loader
brickbitz replied to chris_austin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I didn't realise it was so sought after. I have one of these sitting on my shelf. I seem to remember it was about £50 from the local toyshop around 2004. I know the RRP was £70, I guess it's a good source of pnuematics with 10 cylinders. -
Wild West all the way

Another wonderful work Ralph. I especially like the shop interior, nice detail which actually reminds me of our local chippy. Now I know what I'm going to have for tea later.

I've been so busy with all my new sets that I forgot all about this. Now you've resurrected it I'll guess I'll have to finish it off. I have made some mods but still haven't come up with what feels like the ideal nose. I did try that but decided it was a no no. It still looks far to narrow and also there is no suitable rounded piece for the roof. No leaks in my TB4 I have found a larger more rounded cockpit piece which although not strictly accurate does give it a better profile. I'll get some pics in the next couple of days. Thanks for everyone's input.

Agents Mission 3: Gold Hunt - set #8630
brickbitz replied to Deinonychus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Nice review thanks, although I must say the set itself doesn't really inspire me. The Jet is obviously the best thing about it, but I'm starting to get fed up with technic cannons now. I've got so many floating around from the last year or so's sets. I'm sure I'll end up getting all the Agents sets for parts at the very least when they appear here in the UK.
