LSynth with MLCAD not working.
jasonsmith replied to jasonsmith's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I do but it's a bit old school unfortunately. I don't think MLCAD integrated LSynth at that time. LSynth was able to run on it's own with a given file with the right instructions. Here is a short video showing what is going on. All is stock as per the LDraw all in one installer that I last tried. I did modify the scan list only in the ini as you will see. If you do a pause/play while I get the error message you can read what it says. http://youtu.be/T20MaRtiN7A -
LSynth with MLCAD not working.
jasonsmith replied to jasonsmith's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Not another drive but I have tried many different locations, such as "Program Files", "Program Files (x86)", Base C:, I completely reinstalled the LDraw All in One Installer and that didn't help either. I don't know why when triggering the run command MLCAD isn't opening lsynthcp.exe the path is set correctly. -
I need help guys, LSynth will not work for me and I have spent that last 4hrs going around in circles. Windows 7/64bit Everything installed in the typical locations mlcad.ini file set correctly I have everything and I mean everything exactly as is written in this tutorial. When trying to run LSynth the command console says the following, 'C:\Users\A' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. The system cannot find the path specified. I had to take video of the console pop up and slow it down and freeze it to see what it says. I also get the first pop up shown on the troubleshooting page as linked below. I DO have the correct path set in the ini file though so this is what's confusing me!! I even set the wrong path and it took away the ability to even add a LSynth command in MLCAD, so MLCAD is reading the ini. I'm not getting any of the other errors as suggested here (Troubleshooting) so I don't know.

I hear ya but I think the not so simple answer is that Lego is a corporation just like any other corporation and staying a float is the number one goal. I'm not saying that they are money hungry fools which they ar not, they are an amazing company. Having the Falcon and other sets in such high demand brings a lot of attention to Lego. It has opened up an investment world where people who have never even played with Lego are making up a decent percentage of the sales. It wasn't that long ago that TLG was loosing money annually. What's going on here is part of their business strategy. They have begun catering to the AFOL fanbase and have begun to understand that it is part of their market. They care about the AFOL fan base just enough and in the right way so that they will continue to buy, nothing more and nothing less.

I think it's been talked about before but it could be released in a different fashion as to maintain "some" of the value of those who have invested in it. However, I for one don't believe that Lego should be getting into the "collectors" item market with such large and sought after sets... Wanna make a 24k gold minifig have at er but leave the real models alone so normal people who enjoy Lego can enjoy the product.

The cost depends on many factors... The Falcon has 5195 pcs, at 8 cents per piece it comes to $415. There is no way you will be able to average that for new parts on BL IMO. Lets say you average 9 cents per piece... the cost jumps an extra $50 dollars... and so on. If a person does accurate totals, new vs used, purchased parts including parts that you already had and once paid money for, I highly doubt you will come under $500USD. I would actually guess $600 may be closer to the magic number not including shipping costs. I tried my absolute best to bring the "Parts" cost down as much as I could. Sadly there isn't that one store that has all the parts you need at a decent price so you WILL be buying from many different stores. If you don't purchase anything at outrageous prices and wait for them (or check with Lego) to show up cheaper you may be able to save a lot, but you may be waiting a long time. I made that mistake and could have saved around $50 if I didn't. You can easily build the ship off color and still make it look good, especially if you already have lots of pieces in your stock that you can use. Build your model around the colors that you can get easily and cheaply. I choose to build it new and color correct just in case I went broke building it. That way I would be able to sell it for a decent price if I needed to. Oh.. I have said this before but if a person doesn't want to play on BrickLink which was a lot of fun, I would jump at buying one for $800. All this could be solved though if Lego would just reissue it.

Check with Lego, they may have those parts in stock and save you a lot of grief.

It was quite an undertaking that's for sure. Looking back, 27 BL orders, 1 Lego order, all but 4 orders were from within North America, 99.9% new parts, 100% accurate colors. It was a lot of fun, it totally consumed me for a good two weeks. I was traveling some in there as well, so many transactions were done on my mobile plaforms. Was great having packages come to the house everyday for a few weeks there. I waited till all the BL orders were received and counted, then I made my last order from Lego to fill in the blanks. The down side... Over $100 in shipping costs when totaled. If your thinking about it, budget $600-$800 usd and have fun.

The one thing that I learnt through the whole process is that BrickLink was very expensive. There are many stores that take full advantage of the supply and demand concept making prices for some pieces very very high. Try and keep your price per piece count low and check with Lego before you purchase anything that is expensive. I could have saved at least $50 or more by doing it differently. BL is a good source but you really have to find the right stores. Lego also has a fixed shipping price up to 250 pieces so you don't have to suffer there either. I wish I could have done it all for 350 euro, was that including shipping as well?

It's the one from his website. I downloaded it from there a few different times.

Okay so reinstalled exactly as you suggested and still can't open the Shuttle...BUT... I decided to open some other files kicking around and they open perfectly. Small ones open instantly and a LDR of the UCS Falcon opened in about a minute. All the test files from the your website also load without an issue except the shuttle. Not sure what is wrong.

Okay I need help.. I can't get the shuttle from the website to load. It loads 370 pieces and stops responding. I haven't tried anything else yet as I'm used to MLCad and want to try the cool functions of this pgm. I need to force close and start over when I try to open it. I'm running it on a Win 7 / 64 bit machine that can handle anything. I have the LDraw library loaded correctly as well..I think. Not sure what else to try...

Oh my... That is some fantastic work my friend. Well done.
-
Ya not for us on a piece by piece basis per say but for us who want to buy a large quantity of something to make it worth doing a run of parts.
-
Ultimately I'd like to see a much bigger supply of available single pieces in BrickLink. If Lego had a "proper" way to just by pieces it would be much easier for all of us to build whatever we wanted. I would glady buy $10,000 in pieces and sell them off at a minor profit but don't know how to get them. Those who want to collect the sets with boxes, books etc can still do that and were not effected by the supply and demand phenomenon.
-
So it was YOU... LOL I noticed some of the selections that I made the store stock went down.
-
I ordered them, if they even existed on one official set then that's good enough for me.
-
Thank You, I imagine if they are all slotted then the manual may have been misprinted... Maybe we can check the inventory page on the printed manuals.

Okay folks I need your help. You may know that I have been building Hans ship and have noticed something strange... The pdf instructions show this piece being used, 41 of them... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=75535 Technic, Pin Connector Round (Pin Joiner Round)75535 BUT.... In photos of many peoples Falcons with instructions and actual decals and COA's I'm seeing this piece in use... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=62462 Technic, Pin Connector Round with Slot (Pin Joiner Round)62462 Can anyone confirm this? Possibly the first run set had the non slot piece and the 2nd run had the slot...

That is correct, sorry for not being more specific. You will find that the model itself is very easy and very inexpensive to build if the colors are not important. BUT... if you want to build it as Lego intended it goes up in cost about 400% Some piece quantities are so high that you will need to order parts from 10 different BL stores and suffer the cost of shipping on each. Those that have the high quantities have most likely parted out the ship and their prices are VERY high. For me the "Collector" or "Investment" part of this model never interested me, if I was smart it would have and I would have made some money. All I want to do is build it, take it apart and build it again. If all you want to do is this then the current pricing and missing out on it when it was for sale hurts badly. **** I will say this though, the fun that I have had sourcing, ordering, getting packages, playing with BrickLink, talking with Store People etc has been FANTASTIC, well worth the money spent and much much more fun that getting the box and putting it away. In the end this is all about fun, that is what I am having.

I am 98% done, some really difficult pieces to find that are just not for sale in a manageable quantity. In respect to your rigging piece, you will see that Light Bluish Grey is going to be the thorn in your backside. Supply and demand is alive and well in BrickLink. We need to order some parts from Lego as suggested in a post above and take care of that. Light Bluish Grey......ahhhhhhhhhhhh I see it in my dreams.
-
If you care about the model and not the collector status then the BrickLink route is kinda fun... If you don't care about "Light Bluish Grey" then you can really build it cheap... It's that darn color that costs all the $$$$

After my last 20hrs of scouring BL for parts if one could find a set for $800ish I would jump on it. I have been trying my hardest to build this thing but the "entrepreneurship" is also extending to BL forcing the prices of some special pieces through the roof. Can't do it for under $500 never mind under $600. I think I suck at this. If anyone has any tricks let me know. Been running into lot limits and strangely high prices etc.

Now this is something that is quite intriguing... Curious where Lego stands on this, for all we know there is a specific group of folks who are responsible for growing the "re-sell" market which I would imagine is quite huge. If that's the case they may be quite happy that there's such high demand for this set. If I was the CEO the main company goal would be to get as many playful hands on my products as I possibly could, especially something so amazing as this set. Yes, I think your 100% correct. As eluded to in my post above, this is exactly what Lego wanted. Otherwise flooding the market to saturation or close to would have made more sense IMO.
