What a brilliant idea!!
-
What an amazing job creating this! Will you submit this to Lego Ideas?
-
From the look of the piece, I'd say it's a re-railer. Something that kids can use to easily get the train onto the track, without needing to manually ensure that each wheelset is properly nestled between the rails.

Nice job on the nose of the F unit. I especially like how you were able to get the windshield angles!

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
icemorons replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
What about an injection-molded 90 degree cross track? Edit: After thinking about it, and re-reading the above posts, I don't think this would require 5 molds... -
Resurrection of some old 12v tracks (powering new trains)
icemorons replied to Unfinished_Projects's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@Unfinished_Projects For the reverse, couldn't you simply wire in an inexpensive DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) switch in between the output of your transformer and the track? Run the transformer output to the center (input) contacts on the switch. Wire one set of outputs to the track feed wiring, and the other set of outputs to the same track feed wiring, but cross the polarity. Since the non-selected output of the DPDT switch has no internal connection, you'll avoid a short in your train feed wiring. I can't imagine the switch would be more than a couple dollars, and for the rest, you'd need just some wire, and your soldering skills. You might also need heat-shrink tubing, or electrical tape, to insulate any connections you make. This should be a great, inexpensive solution. -
@pagicence That's amazing work! Really nice job.

Welcome to the forum, @XGBC. Glad to have you.

@Redimus Really nice job!! What parts did you use for the connecting rods? Lego, or third party?

I was thinking about colors also. As far as I know, since 2006, they haven't released a locomotive in predominantly Purple, Brown, Grey, or Black. And in that time there have only been one each in Yellow and Orange: Green 2006 - 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe 2006 - 10173 Holiday Train 2009 - 10194 Emerald Night 2016 - 10254 Winter Holiday Train 2018 - 60198 Cargo Train Red 2007 - 10183 Hobby Trains 2010 - 7938 Passenger Train 2011 - 3677 Red Cargo Train 2015 - 60098 Heavy-Haul Train Blue 2011 - 10219 Maersk Container Train 2014 - 60052 Cargo Train 2018 - 60197 Passenger Train White 2006 - 7897 Passenger Train 2014 - 60051 High-Speed Passenger Train Yellow 2010 - 7939 Cargo Train Orange 2013 - 10233 Horizon Express Your guess is as good as mine, but I'd like to see any new train in an unused, or seldom released color.

It was only exclusive here in the USA, as far as I know. Both 3677 and 60098 were sold elsewhere in the world, and may or may not have been exclusives in those countries. My point was, if Lego goes by the established pattern, they may do a new "extra" freight train in 2019. Exclusivity, or not, shouldn't matter for its development, as it would be sold worldwide anyhow. I'm hoping there is a new train for 2019, of course. But I started the thread to see if anyone had any news about the existence (or not) of such a train in development.
-
They declared bankruptcy, and closed all stores in the USA and most other countries, worldwide. Although, Toys R Us is still open and doing business in Canada, since the Canadian stores were purchased by another entity, which continues operation.
-
That might have been true here in the USA, but both sets were also available worldwide. And, Amazon currently has exclusive rights to 60198 (in addition to Lego stores and S@H). So, a 2019 freight might see a wider release here, like at Walmart, Target, etc. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. As I recall, @Sir von Lego provided the first hints at the existence of the 2018 trains... Perhaps he knows any news?
-
Has anyone heard any rumblings or rumors about a new freight train coming in 2019, similar to the "year after the major releases" in which 3677 Red Cargo Train (2011) and 60098 Heavy Haul Train (2015) were released?
-
I've been working on this again, also. Purchased a 60198 recently, and was pleased to find out that the prototype cab I had built before its initial release was pretty much spot-on. My solution is similar to @Goldenmasamune, but slightly different. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

I still haven't bought this set. I was working on a mock-up, to try to work out the easiest way to light it, but it got packed away when I moved on to other projects, and I haven't picked it up again.

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
icemorons replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
60238 is not missing. It has already been released. It is the replacement for the old 7895, switch tracks for trains. It and 60205 (straight, curve, and flex) track pack were released coinciding with the new Passenger 60197 and Cargo 60198 train releases in 2H 2018. -
It is doubtful that a similar PUP design would be as simple to produce. Sady, the PUP battery pack lid has a separation line that is between 1 and 2 bricks in height from the bottom. The entire top half is the PUP hub itself. To cover that with studs in a similar approach would be much more difficult, as they'd have to essentially replace the HUB with their design.
-
In the USA, both 3677 and 60098 were exclusive to TRU, that's true. However, both sets were also available worldwide. I'd expect the same pattern would repeat, based on history and worldwide appetite. (of course, I have no proof)

@koalayummies Love the concept and execution! I might use this as inspiration to build something similar for my railroad. Great job!

Small layout on a door - now completely custom!
icemorons replied to sed6's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@sed6 Really great update to the small layout! How did you assemble the monorail track? It's the curves I'm most interested in. Can you enlighten us, please? -
I hope this gets approved. I would ABSOLUTELY buy at least one! I also supported this set on Lego Ideas. So happy to see it reach 10000 votes!

Replace Rubberband Treads on 9V Train Motors
icemorons replied to Phoxtane's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks @Goldenmasamune and @peterab. I was able to find at Lowe's that the Danco #35 was an acceptable size, although just a slight bit larger in cross-section than the original. The increase in traction is amazing! 11/16ths outer diameter. 9/16ths inner diameter. 1/16th thickness. Sorry for kicking the old topic, btw.- 16 replies
