  1. The mid-engined Corvette C8 will be announced on July 18, so that's my odds-on favorite (basically thinking they'll do what they did with the 720S). That would also make a lot of sense as to why this wave was so small--as we know, it takes years for Lego to design a set--so they've probably had this in the can for a while and assumed they'd be able to release it with the first wave, but then the C8 was delayed. Next likely is the mid-engined Ferrari hybrid supercar to be announced this Friday (5/31). Beyond that, the timing just doesn't make sense for either the McLaren GT or the Speedtail, and I can't think of anything else singleton-release-worthy.
  2. I can personally confirm that Target has the 2019 sets in the back (and employees will get them for you if you ask really nicely). You know, if you just can't wait another 30-something hours... Follow up, with two bags built: The building techniques for the '67 Mini are really neat--there are a few MOCers out there who work at 5-wide, but in my experience the end results tend to be a bit brittle. Thanks to copious use of new parts, this one manages to be really solid. The Dakar buggy though is my favorite. I've built the entire Speed Champions range (with the exception of the 2015 Silver Arrows McLaren), and it's like no other car in the line, both in terms of building experience and in terms of the look of the end product. I know it's a polarizing model, but it's really true to the source material, and seeing it in the plastic you can absolutely imagine it tearing across a desert stage.
  3. Brickseek is reporting the new wave as in stock at Target (e.g. the Ferrari F40 and the Minis). Planning on going over there tomorrow to see for myself.
  4. The Brothers Brick review kinda highlighted to me how unfortunate it is that SC-scale can't support a passenger side--celebrating historic rally drivers while literally erasing their co-drivers just seems wrong.
  5. Counterpoint: MOCing is a lot easier when the stickers are optional.
  6. Sorry, it's absolutely photoshopped. This is a meme from this year's Le Mans. Really thought, if you find some real photographs, it's only exaggerating the size discrepancy between the M8 (which is a bit larger than typical) and the Ford (which is TINY and really closer in size to the nimble LMPs). Here's a great example of what I'm talking about: Porsche 911 RSR (about the same size as the BMW) battling a Ford GT while an LMP darts through:
  7. At Speed Champions scale?!? I guess if they're doing the Dakar JCW, anything is possible... ?
  8. Chiron got both treatments... As did the 911 RSR.
  9. No rumors that I've heard apart from their SUV (Purosangue) which IIRC is going to be 2021. But if you think they're likely to release a new single, here are the most likely candidates I see (only counting cars that have already been officially announced): - Aston Martin Valkyrie - McLaren Speedtail - Mercedes Project One - BMW Z4 (Toyota Supra) - Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (will laugh all the way to the Lego store if they do an Urus as the first SC Lambo) - Bugatti Divo
  10. I too think that going 7w for widebody cars would be a welcome innovation, but I want to make the point that the Mini Cooper just does not work at 6w. @hachiroku, I'm thinking specifically of your SC-scale "Mini"--it's a brilliant and beautiful MOC--I loved building it, and my family love playing with it--but it looks and feels more like a Countryman.
  11. Hate to say it, but that F40 is vastly inferior to the majority of MOCs I've seen at that scale. Super excited about the Nascar Camaro and the Mini set though. Also worth mentioning that both Creator 3-in-1 and City are getting minifigure-scale desert racers next year, so if you're looking to stage a Baja 1000 or Dakar Rally you're going to have plenty to work with.
  12. The #3 Corvette Racing team were the IMSA GTLM champions in 2017 *and* 2018. Chevy also took the manufacturer's trophy in 2017. Keep in mind: it takes time to design a set--it's pretty rare we get something like the McLaren 720S released simultaneously. This is why this year had the Porsche 919 LMP1 and not the Nürburgring-beating 919 Evo. If the Chevy is a double-set, what would be really incredible would be if it turned out that the rumors were true and the mid-engined C8 is going to be called the Zora. Then the double would be the Zora + a C3 with a minifigure of Arkus-Duntov.
  13. I'm miffed because I *just* made my own Senna Speed Champions MOC... Sigh. Well, those new pieces (dark bley short fenders, dark bley 1x2 wedges with stud notches, orange wheels (?!), and whatever is going on with those orange air dams) will be great fodder for other mocs. Also nice to see Bruno Senna as a minifigure (and yes I mean Bruno).
  14. An FCA licensing deal that resulted in a Dodge or two would be an enormous disappointment. Seriously you go with a Challenger/Charger over an Alfa or Maserati? And, of course, if Lego is going to embrace the Rally subtheme, why not give us all what we really want: a Lancia Stratos?
  15. Ferrari hasn't been part of FCA since 2016.
  16. Sounds like they're reserving one single-car set for an off-season release. Come on Speedtail... Edit: I guess not if those set numbers are correct--the 720S fell into a reserved spot between the 2017 single-car sets and the more expensive ones. :-(
  17. Based on the fact that the DB5 turned out to be more of a collaboration than a licensing deal (Aston is building a bunch of Bond cars for real), I'm betting on at least one Aston Martin set, hopefully a Valkyrie. They could also leverage their sponsorship to get a Red Bull F1 car to go with our Mercs and Ferraris. A McLaren Speedtail released in the same way as the 720S set would make my life. Beyond that I'm crossing my fingers for a C8 mid-engined "Zora" Corvette and that they worked out a licensing deal with Toyota's Gazoo division to get us a Supra and a TS050.
  18. I'm just going to state the obvious here: 2019 is the perfect year for Lego to work out a licensing deal with Toyota. The TS050 finally won Le Mans (and will likely win again at the end of the "super season" in 2019), and a set would allow them to capitalize on the Fernando Alonso hype (now that we know that drivers are at least sometimes based on real people). Besides the LMP, the new MkV Supra will be hitting production in 2019, and would thus be a perfect candidate for their 2pk "then and now" set for the year.
  19. First off, they've obviously done the vet / equestrian sub-themes already. Secondly I'm pretty sure I've read that the gender breakdown for junior karting leagues is a lot more even than pro motorsports as a whole. But also, this isn't too big a departure for the Friends line--they've always featured awesome roadsters and sports cars.
  20. If Lego is going to strike up a partnership with a new company, I'm hoping it's Toyota so we can get a TS050 to go with the 919H. Now that they're doing rally cars we could get a Yaris, which would be neat. And then there's the potential for Suprae (the MKV has been spotted out for testing, so a good candidate for a Then and Now) or an LFA.
  21. The only thing I don't like about the Speed Champions line (besides the lack of manufacturer diversity) is how over-reliant they are on stickers. There are several models I've modded to brick-build the headlights, and they look a lot better, but the worst offender has to be the 2016 Camaro from 75874, which sticker-prints the exhaust. LEGO--YOU *MAKE* AN EXHAUST PIPE PIECE!!!
  22. Yeah, Porsche 911 Turbo is the marketing name of the Porsche 930, which was produced from '75 - '89
  23. Bet it's the same deal for the Ford GT. Craig Callum--the ultimate MOC-maker...
  24. Except when they partner with the manufacturer to do a simultaneous release like they did with the McLaren 720S. Ferrari and LEGO are pretty tight. I'm still not convinced it's going to be GT cars rather than an F1 superset, but if it is, the classic car will certainly be the 250 as originally reported, not the 288. The 250 GTO is probably *the* most highly regarded sports car of all time.
